Here is the list of new animals coming in MM2:
1. Beluga Whale (Tundra)
2. West Indian Manatee (Coastal)
3. Bottlenose Dolphin (Coastal)

7. Manta Ray (Reef)

12. Blacktip Reef Shark (Reef)
13. Whale Shark (Benthic)

16. Green Sea Turtle (Coastal)
17. Pacific Walrus (Tundra)
18. False Killer Whale (Coastal)
19. Orca (Tundra)

There may or may not be some unlockable items, we won't know for sure until the full release.

I am loving this list, and most of the animals I've seen in screenshots are so realistic, especially the Sea Lion. I think I'm going to love this XP.

I feel that this has to be the best possible list. THere isn't really anything i can think of that i'd like to change. I wonder how the Narwhal is gonna look?

THe Great hammerhead is very large, and isn't nearly as common as the Scalloped Hammerhead. I guess they went for Common instead of wellknown.

Now that I think about it there are a few animals that I would have changed: instead of having two blackfish, as the False Killer Whale and Pilot Whale are called, I would have replaced Pilot Whale( since none has ever been in captivity) with any one of the three River Dolphins. I also would have replaced one of the turtles with an Eelectric or Moray Eel, since those do grow to a considerable size.

Yeah, when you're limited to 20 animals, you shouldn't make similar ones. Diversity is a good thing.

I edited my post after re-reading yours. Just be careful is all I'm saying. I understand they tried to go with as many as they could and lots of people will be disappointed. All we can do is hope they will keep reading those wishlists lol!
It's simply not possible for everyone to be happy with the animal selection, same as it has been for every other release. That being said, I do agree it's a valid concern. There certainly seem to be a couple of notable omissions.

That sounds like a fantastic exhibit idea! I'm going to make a coastal Zoo, and in the center there will be a large lagoon with a dock (the elevated path) over it. It'll have a White Shark, and it'll have a JAWS sort of look to it.

i would have loved some more fish (besides sharks), and maybe a seal but our talented modders can fix that no problem, these animals are soo cool i wouldnt have even thought they would have had more pinnipeds.
edit: is the walrus a seal or sea lion?

I believe walruss (or is it walri ?) are their own species. But they are closests to seals in looks. I wanted to see pictures of some of these. I hope a beta tester posts pics...

I love it!: :) : The 5 shark species made me go crazy! My absolute fav. animal in MM will be the Goblin Shark.
i personally think there are a bit to much cetaceans, but there aren't much fish that grow large enough, so that does make sense. Man, its aweosome!:surprise:

Some may have scoffed when I said that a whale shark was a viable option, but it's there! (NOTE FOR STAFF: THIS WAS A MERE HUNCH AND I KNEW NO MORE ABOUT THE UPCOMING GAME THAN ANYONE ELSE WHO DIDN'T BETA.) I actually have some mixed emotions about the list. The sharks should be great, the turtle I've worked with in the demo, green sea, is great! However, as for the last animal being a blue marlin, I AM a little dissappointed. However, I understand their need to insert at least ONE bony fish!:laughing:
Now, for pelagic, will there be a different sea floor than benthic?

I'm a little disappointed with them not including a sting ray or a moray eel or something...
And I'm glad they have five sharks, instead of just including hammerhead and black-tip, or something like that. :specool:

The Pelagic Biome is probably gonna have two different light shades of sand. While Benthic will probably have a dark sand and a dark rock terrain.

I love this expansion. I don't have it yet, but I love it. I only have one disappointment, and that is that it didn't have a marine iguana. I was looking forward to that. But, besides that, I couldn't have asked for more!

Well, I alrady knew the whole list. But I'm really excited too! I'm most excited about the pilot whale, since it's brand new. I'm not as happy with the marlin, narwhal, or goblin shark. But it'll be fun to add them to my zoos!... marine parks! :woot: :IloveZA:

Yeah, no Marine Iguanas. I'm a bit disappointed in that, but still, we've got some great animals here! I can't wait to make an exhibit with the hammerheads!

I have to admit, i'm a little surprised at the lack of Reef animals. But I'm really excited for Benthic, especially the White Shark and Goblin Shark.

They are missing a big chunk in the lower part of the food chain. No small fish like tuna, salmon, or anything like that.

My opinions on the animals.
Beluga - Cool.
Narwhal - Also cool. It'll be interesting to see it in the game.
Pacific Walrus - Looks cool, AND it performs in shows.
Orca - I loved it the instant I saw it all that long time ago.
False Killer Whale - Sounds interesting.
Bottlenose Dolphin - I again loved it the moment I saw it.
California Sea Lion - I think it is the most realistic animal so far.
Green Sea Turtle - Looks great.
Rockhopper Penguin - Looks good, if a bit freaky.
Sea Otter - I hope they break shellfish with stones.
West Indian Manatee - Looks a little freaky.
Manta Ray - Looks nice.
Blacktip Reef Shark - At least they used a shark I've seen.
Scalloped Hammerhead Shark - Nice.
Blue Marlin - Should be interesting.
Leatherback Sea Turtle - Always looked nice.
Short-Finned Pilot Whale - I hope it goes with the turtle and Marlin.
Whale Shark - Sounds great, but I think they should have been Pelagic.
Goblin Shark - The unknown is always interesting.
White Shark - We'll see. I'm pleased that the sharks are all different.

Two reef animals now, no grassland animals when ZT2 was originally released. Didn't our designers fix that? =)

:surprise: I thought ZT1 MM had a lot of animals, what are all the other ZT2 expansions, because I am thinking about buying ZT2 when this comes out.

Well legomannate, I didn't realise you don't have ZT2. There are two other expansions, Endangered Species and African Adventure. And the Dino Danger premium download.
Well I am really pleased at this list. Just one thing though. Confession: I have a dictionary that usually sits gathering dust on the shelf. But I had to blow the dust off to look up 'Pelagic'.:blushing: :laughing:

Beluga - Narwhal: Both are close relatives, both are cool, both from the same biome. Perfect.
Pacific Walrus - Sea lion: Well, they mix well.
Orca - False Killer Whale - Bottlenose Dolphin: Wanted it since I heard False killer whale. A must be.
Green Sea Turtle - Leatherback turtle - Galapagos tortoise - African spurred tortoise: Slow-mo exibit!
Rockhopper Penguin - Emperor penguin: FINALLY, penguins with company different from user-made animals!
West Indian Manatee - African elephant/Hippo - Asian elephant/Pigmy hippo: What?
Scalloped Hammerhead Shark - Whale Shark - White Shark: 3 big sharks. Coolio.
I'm looking forward to this!

I think somebody has alredy made a skin for a comman dolphin (from the demo) The list looks great, and there are also artic cod and tuna enricment. And koi decrations. But the whale shark and great white have odd biomes. Great whites are costal (though they do migrate into pelagic) and whale sharks are pelagic and reef.
After ive fiddled a bit and made a marine park im going to build the glapagos, with costal deep water and scrub land. shame there is marine igana, still as i say zoo simulation players cant be chosers and never look a gift sealion in the mouth!

I know what I want to do Mixed Exhibit wise.
I wanna do a Bottlenose Dolphin/California Sea Lion/Green Sea Turtle/Rockhopper Penguin/Sea Otter/West Indian Manatee exhibit. Make the most of the new coastal biome, after all. Lets hope they don't try and eat each other.

Hmm, first, i'm gonna make a Tundra Section of a zoo. It'll be divided into four sections.
It'll be the shape of an X, with an enclosure in each open section. Large Mountains will make up the X shape.
The Sections-
Polar Bears-Mix land/water
Orca/Beluga-All water
Narwhal/Penguin-Water, some land
Caribou-All land.
Thats just the beginning. I'll also have a large Coastal section, which will also feature some Benthic animals.

Don't worry , you aren't alone I only knew what coastal and reef meant :sweatingb I have so many ideas for new zoos and most peoples sound so cool. I'm probably going to have a spiral of elevated path and put a tank in the middle. Narrow , but cool looking. I think the orca should have gone in something other than tundra. Usually they aren't that far North.

I'm a little disappointed that there isn't that many reef animals like moray eels or sting rays but the rest of the list is awesome!! I really like White Sharks and am looking forward to see them in the game(or at least some screenshots!).

Whale Sharks are fairly common now adays in captivity. Sperm, Right and Humpback whales have never been in captivity.
WHale Sharks- Commonly 40 feet, realy around 50ft. 20 tons
Right Whale-60ft
Humpback-50ft 40 tons
Sperm-60ft 55 tons (once recored over 80 feet long)
WHale Sharks make alot of sense, while those whales could never be held in captivity.

I agree. 90% of the animals in MM2 seem to make sense. Even the white shark. It's so awesome that Monterey Bay Aquarium has another one!:woot:
This is all so awesome and overwhelming!!:woot:
But what about goblin shark, pilot whale, narwhal and manta? Are they all in captivity, or have been? I'm not even saying that they had to be in an aquarium, as long as they were in captivity.
For the leatherback turtle, since it's pelagic, does it just use the tropical island to breed, and not even have the choice of land?

I was upset to see no sunfish or sawfish. But the list is still good. Hate to be a copy cat, but here are my opinions on the animals.
Orca - Good
Bottlenose Dolphin - Good. And three varients!
False Killer Whale - Not sure if that black whale in the trailer movie thing was a pilot whale or f. k. whale.
Beluga - Sounds Good
Narwhal - Not exactly realistic but sounds good. Will be fun to mix with belugas.
Short Finned Pilot Whale - Same with f. k. whale. Sounds interesting.
California Sea Lion - Good
Pacific Walrus - Good. I saw a pic of it performing in a show. It was waving to the show hostess.
Southern Sea Otter - Looked kinda big in the pic.
West Indian Manatee - Looks light in color and a bit odd, but should be good.
Blacktip Reef Shark - Kinda small, but looks good.
Scalloped Hammerhead Shark - Good. Almost evil looking. :wicked:
Great White Shark - Half and half on this. Kinda looks like a tiger shark.
Whale Shark - Oh joy!
Goblin Shark - Kinda 50/50 again, but actually kinda excited about it.
Manta Ray - Good
Blue Marlin - Wouldn't it hit it's long nose into the tank walls? :unsure:
Green Sea Turtle - Looks kinda cute. :wub: I could just hug it. Three varients also!
Leatherback Turtle - Looks kinda funky from above. (In the very first pics of MM, you can see it peeping out of the water. I personally think we'd be fine with only one turtle species.)
Rockhopper Penguin - Good. And the baby is so cute. :wub:
I'm eager to see what the pilot whale/false killer whale, whale shark, goblin shark, and marlin look like in-game! :woot:

Narwhals, Pacific walrus, and belugas, and maybe the orca if it doesn't eat them. :laughing:

LOL! I think they might be a tad smarter then that (even in games! lol), if it does that, then it'll remind of of that Tom and Jerry cartoon where Tom pounded the marlin's nose with a hammer down to a barrel, then it couldn't move. :woot:

Anywho, I pretty much like all the animals, though I might have taken out the false killer whale or the blue marlin to put in something like a moray eel, a bat ray, or a sunfish.

I am very please with most of the animals. The narwhal in the loading screen looks fabulous!! The only problems I have are:
1. The whale shark is benthic!! The benthic zone is the bottom of the ocean, where there is NO light except bioluminescent light!! It eats phytoplankton and krill - both of which inhabit the littoral zone! Because of the lack of light, no plankton/krill can live at these great depths!!! Whale sharks would starve to death if they lived in the benthic zone. They should be pelagic, and they even wander into coastal and reef regions.
2. Again a problem with biomes, the great white shark lives in coastal zones - quite the opposite of the benthic zone!
Other than this I am very bpleased with all the other animals, particularly the walrus and sea lion. I also cannot wait for the manatee, but I must admit it's skin looks very odd in the loading screen, I hope it looks better in the real game!

But there is still a chance that the list were seeing could be an older one, and has changed since the demo was created. This is even more possible seeing how the demo was probably prepared a while ago, and not just a week or so in advance.
I was hoping to be able to make a White Shark/Sea Lion mix exhibit of sorts. Hopefully the White's will not mind.

The benthic zone is still aphotic - so they cannot inhabit such water. Their diets would not allow it. :wink: I do hope it is changed! :original:

The inclusion of a sea otter automatically makes the EP worth buying for me, though. XD
I'm also excited to see the manta ray, turtles and the goblin shark. (I mean, dude, goblin shark. How awesomely random and cool is that?)

No, but three of 'em are. Whales, Whites, and Goblins are benthic, hammerheads are pelagic, and blacktip reefs are reef.

because the new penguins use the rock island will the old penguins use the floating ice in the same way.

Pilot whales have been - and still are - held in captivity. right now seaworld california has two - Bubbles and Shadow:

Orca
Dolphin
Cal/sea lion
Walrus
False killer
Beluga
Pilot whale
Otter

Sorry, I don't follow. When I go into zookeeper mode I am in the water, both with turtles and penguins? :unsure: Isn't that as near as we get to 'swimming' with them?

The possibillities of what a bit of tweaking to the koi can do is near-endless! With model editing, mabye we can have a whole Japan theme!
But on topic:

And bethnic tanks, eh? I can finally have a bit of adventure in my zoos!
But I'm really looking forward to a koi... A quick Q.... Does it eat? Can it be eaten?

Well, you can swin with sea turtles, and they go on land. Also, I beleive I've seen swimming with sa lions somewhere. I could always be mistaken.

I think the koi is just placeable and cannot be eaten, I think it just swims aroung and looks nice.

Did you guys happen to think that we might be only able to swim with animals that would normally be safe to swim with? No-one would randomly grab ahold of a White Shark, or any shark for that matter, and try to go for a swim. A Cetacean or turtle, on the other hand, would be a likely candidate to swim with.
A penguin is too small to pull the weight of a human being through water, as would be a Sea Otter, Sea Lion, or Goblin Shark.

Actually there is the whale shark. People have walked on them without them noticing nevermind swimming with them. Plus this is family friendly , if you can walk beside a T-rex without getting hurt , you can swim with a shark.

There are scenes in some Nature shows showing someone riding along side a whale shark but I don't think I have seen anyone ever touch one before.Also, I'm pretty sure there is no captive goblin sharks.

Thats an awsome list. The only things I would change is to replace the False Killer Whale with a Harbor Seal (come on, no seals?) and to replace the Great White Shark (thats impossible, they can never live in captivity) with some kind of Eel or River Dolphin/Porpise. Otherwise, great graphics and looks like a good buy.

The False Killer Whale would be a good replacee because we already have the Killer Whale. Plus we have a lot of sharks in my opinion. I would love for a seal download though. Especially Harbor, with those cute white babys.

The false killer whale and killer whale are very different - it's similar to the pilot whale, however. In any case, I think it's going to be very interesting - it will perform in shows and such. I myself would have replaced the goblin shark, it's impossible to keep in captivity (it lives in VERY deep waters) with either a river dolphin or a wobbegong.

If I could take out one or two animals, i would take out te False killer whale or the Pilot whale. They could easily be made into eachother by a designer. I would have prefered an eel of some sort, or maybe a nurse shark.: :) :

I loved Beta Testing this game. I made a huge exhibit of all Belugas. I named my favorite one Tookie.
They really put in a nice batch of animals in the game. Out of all of the animals in this expansion, I have to say my favorite one was the Green Sea Turtles. One variant in particular was very pretty.

Nah, there's one variant with a "Teal" colored shell and a dark brown body. It really is rather pretty. If I can find one in the game, i'll post a screen shot of it. But, again, that is a bit off topic. Please excuse me, Tex.

One thing that i found as pretty unrealistic is the lionfish. They do look awesome, but no zoo/marine park in their right mind would put them in a tank with other species like dolphins. I actually owned a lionfish about 6 months ago and they can kill you. Mostly they give you a sting that makes you want to die, but they have killed some people.
Another thing is i wonder if the koi will die if you put them in saltwater since they are freshwater lol

yeah but in a confined environment it's just and injury waiting to happen. Like in my marine tanks that i have i would never put a lionfish with any larger fast moving fish like tangs, because they WILL get stung. Sometimes it can kill them but most of the time it gives them an injury that it VERY prone to infection. I have seen it happen

I have actually seen a Lionfish being kept in the same tank as a Soilder Fish (I think) and a Porcupine Puffer Fish. In a way, the three went together well.

but thoes are slow moving predatory fish that were probally about the same size. It's actually a little dangerous for the lion to be kept with any puffers or triggers because they will use their beaks to bite the spines on the lionfish.

Frankly, I'm a little disappointed that they take so long to make the EPs, charge $30-40 bucks for 'em and yet appear to put so little effort and creativity into the animal models.
I mean, sure, 3D modelling and animation takes work, but not THAT much work. You'd think they'd try for a little more variety...
But then I'm a visual artist and wildlife buff, not a game programmer. >_>
Eh, whatever. I'll buy the stuff anyway. XD

i think all the animals look awesome. It gets annoying with people always saying that the models are the same. They are not. Of corse some animals are going to look alike a little, even in the wild they do. What do you want, them to make the beluga look like a bird or a dog because it looks to much like the pilot whale? They are similar in the wild? what more do you want? Sorry i just had to rant a little

Having been in Hawaii, Alaska and California, and having seen whales in all of them, I know that except for size, the whales I've seen look very much the same. Their skins are slightly different colors, but the shape of them is very similar. I think the MM animals are quite good, myself.

There are already ripples in ES - just make sure your settings are "Very High".
The only two which look similar are the beluga and pilot whale, even there the pilot whale has a pronounced dorsal fin, and is much stockier than the beluga. I think they look fairly different though, so it's all good. I am very very pleased with the expansion so far - I hope the other animals are as good as the four in the demo!!

I did get whale shark and white shark wrong, I misread it, they are different. I think the animals are more interesting in MM2 than the original MM, but that's just my opinion.

Im actually quite pleased with the selection of the animals, and the way they look. I have never complained about any of BF's animals and i wont start now! (well maybe ive complained a little, but never really hated their animals) I love the way th pilot whale looks and same with the beluga.

I think people have to realize that in any ZT2 expansions animals will be similar. This is because BF uses a basic model and then morphs it into several animals. Thus, whne they made big cats they just tweaked a model a little. Alos, the FKW and killler whale, poliot, beluga, and narwhale, sea turtles, and walrus and sea lion, and all the sharks (except the whale shark) are just vairations of the same models. This is a major factor in what animals go into an expansion because it saves them time in creating more models. Thta is why the false KW is in there, that is why the goblin shark is in there, and in every expansion that is what we will get.

Hold your horses zoocrazyman . The game is being shipped on Tuesday it will probably arrive Thursday-Sunday. Usually at EB I've noticed they get shipments Tuesdays and Thrusdays, so they may have it on Tuesday. Jsut don't count your chickens before they hatch . I'm gonna put a preorder on at Bestbuy in an hour or so to get first notice.

Which animals are the show animals? I know about orca and bottlenose dolphin because I played the demo. But aren't there more? (I know for a fact they cannot be green sea turtle or rockhopper penguin because they're not show animals in the demo)

Yes actually. There used to be a beluga show at Seaworld San Diego way back when. However, the only problem is that belugas can't leap out of the water.

the whale shark is 4 1/2 stars and is probably in my top 5 favorite animals. i just love it. except for the biome, because a whale shark in benthic just looks wrong.:sick: i usually put it in reef, and it makes a nice combo exhibit with manta rays.

no, you cant really train a white shark, shows with them in zt1 were a bit impractical. i personally think sea otter shows are a bit on the edge, but i still love them.:wub:

I think there is alot of sharks, and sense it is rare for a white shark in zoos, I think it would have been cool that instead of the white shark we could have had a Gulper Eel, as we have no eels or snakes. Its biome would've also been Bethnic.
Also, the FKW is alright, but we could have done without it. What I really missed was seals. It would have been really nice to have at least one true seal. I think we should have had a Harp seal instead of the FKW sense we already have the Killer Whale itself, and Harp seals are famous for their cute pearl white babies.
Otherwise I love this expansion and think it is the best yet.
Edit: Also, sense there was no eels, I think a moray eel could've been included in the Tropical Fish Aquarium. But I can't complain.

i see what you mean, but there are a lot of kids and other people that love great whites that microsoft has to market to. plus, it is kind of educational to prove that great whites arent just man killers.

yes, we couldve used a good eel. and if bf makes one, itll be moray or gulper, animals for biomes that we need more animals!!

Or maybe instead of the Goblin Shark which is incredibly rare to have in zoos and, frankly, its ugly, had the gulper or moray or something. I don't like sharks in the first place, and was disappointed that there were so many in this expansion. 25% of the animals we got were sharks!
And I too, think, some true seals would have been nice :happy:

i dont know about another penguin, but a true seal wouldve been nice cough(leopardseal)cough. and i think youre right about the goblin shark mika, but we needed something other than sharks for benthic. (personally, i dont think the whale shark should even be in benthic.

Although I think this list of animals is cool, it could have been cooler. The Goblin Shark and False Killer whale aren't that well known, and the Pilot whale and the Beluga are too similar. I would have scrapped the Goblin Shark, False Orca and Pilot whale and replaced them with three of the following.

I agree with the tiger shark,coelocanth,marine iguana,leopard seal,and the elephant seal.I think a sperm whale would be a little to large.Everything else should be either user-created,bonus downloads,or in a premimum download pack.

Actually the False Killer Whale is very well known, just as well known as the Beluga Whale. They have False Killer Whales in SeaWorld Florida.

I personally think the great white shark should really be coastal/pelagic and the whale shark pelagic. A giant squid would so deeply dissapoint me (and a lot of other people, as Steve said), and it would DEFINATELY not be in pelagic. Benthic or nothing. i say the whole benthic biome and goblin shark shouldn't have been included, and instead a marine iguana for coastal.
I'm making a wishlist agin, aren't I? Oh well.
Overall, I think this is one covered MOST of the marine animals people wanted. I don't care if the pilot whale and beluga look similar - no offence, but does anyone complain about non-meshed user made downloads?

That's because a lot of users can't mesh, and they make their downloads for free. BF can and they charge us. If they gave me MM2 for free, I wouldn't complain. If they're going to charge me good money for it, they have to make it worth the purchase. I don't complain about free bonus downloads, and I think they're just marvelous, but I feel they should work harder on their expansions.
I think the goblin sharks should be smaller and pinker, because they are pink in reality. The whale sharks should also 'sieve' more often.
Can sea otters actually perform tricks?

Hmm... where to begin... Ocean sunfish, Tiger shark, Basking shark and Humpback whale should be pelagic, Sperm whale, Coelocanth and Giant Squid should be benthic and Mako shark should be reef. I'm not contradicting you, I'm just saying.
