Elefriend. First read the instructions. If you can help rebuild this zoo. Let me know what animal you choose.

This area of the country is known for their beautiful gardens, ornate stone walls and cast iron.

This is the first exhibit.
The Giraffe is for Vision. They can see farther because of their height. The people learn to look into the future with a positive attitude.

The elephant was chosen to be added to the Delta Zoo as a symbol of strength for rebuilding the once strong and beautiful zoo.
After rebuilding efforts and adding the elephant exhibit donations were up to: donations-$8,037   admissions/sales $1,352. The month now is April of year one.
And we have one giraffe on the way!

Ok, I have Tyto Alba doing Rhino; Rednotdead will do the Bengal Tiger.
Takins, the American Beaver has been requested. The list is at the top of the forum.

Someone has approach me with a cash offer since they are unable to work on an exhibit. I cannot say who at the moment without permission from this person.

This is my personal offer as well: For every exhibit placed in the Delta Zoo Quilt, I will match it with $1, the contribution to help the Humane Society, Zoological Society or another organization in need when this map has been completed.
I am working these plans out and will contact a moderator to help me figure out how to make this happen.

Post by: Honor on September 02, 2005, 06:42:02 AM
Hello all.

As Zoohio mentioned early, someone who was unable to make an exhibit was willing to make an actual cash donation to either the red cross, humane society or AZA in the amount equaling the # of exhibits.

Well, that someone is me and I appreciate Zoohio's discretion in the matter...I'm just not very good with words so I wanted him to do it. *grins*

So yes... this is my offer and plea:  Even though I am a poor college student (and trust me, I am) I can't forget the help my state got last year after our hurricanes hit...and we weren't hit half as hard the Lousiana.
I really thought Zoohio's idea for the  Katrina quilt was awesome, but I really don't have time to create an exhibit...and I wanted to do more, but couldn't figure out what.

So... this is what I came up with:

For every animal *species* (as in, tiger, lion, etc. NOT number if individuals, cause that'd be crazy) that is signed up for at the end of the quilt zoo, I will donate $1 to the HUmane Society. I chose the Humane Society, because most people are donating to the Red Cross and I think the animals tend to get forgotten in situations like this. Also, all of the zoo's in the area are doing fairly well so I don't think the AZA needs it as much as the Humane Society might.

I made the decision to do it for every animal species because the #of maximum species in ZT2 is still a number I can handle, but I think is a good, "hearty" contribution.

So please, put in at least one. If everyone helps out and between Zoohio's own contribution, I think we can make a real difference.

If you have any questions, feel free to PM me.

~Honor

The humane society is an excellent charity to contribute to.  I am making a donation to the HSUS because I feel the same way you do, Honor.  That the animals tend to be forgotten. :(

This is a nice topic and it is nice for everyone to band together like this.   :D

This list is on the first page of this topic with the current zoo stats as of last night.
bluekittySC has the map at the moment, then it will go to Rosina's Cat. Elefriend will be skipped as he is out of town for the weekend, so Tyto is next after Rosina's Cat.

Boblus, you may do the Red Panda.

Update:
Rosina's Cat is unable to do the American Beaver as there are some issues with her pc and she will be leaving on a long, overdue holiday.
Takins also requested the American Beaver and has been contacted regarding taking on the exhibit.
The zoo is currently with BluekittySC and will be passed on afterwards. I believe Tyto Alba will be next on the list.
Thanks everyone and be patient. Your chance will come to work on this project.

I am going to follow Zoohio's and Honor's lead and pledge some money to go toward the relief efforts. For every exhibit in the
Hurricane Relief Quilt Zoo I will donate $2.00 to my charity. The company that I work for will match my donations as well. So come on everybody pitch in and make some small exhibits so we can squeeze in a lot and get some more money. I also encourge people to give a little money to their relief effort of choice. The Human Society (http://www.hsus.org/index.html) is my charity of choice.
Another one is LA/SPCA (http://www.la-spca.org/)

Great job everyone. Reading this topic has been like a rush of fresh air. Reading a few of these topics lately has been ... well, depressing, but it is this type of outpouring from the members of ZA that have always make me consider ZA one huge family. I've already contributed a few times but I will happily match the others and hope there is never a need for anything such as this again.

If possible I would like to add the lemurs to this zoo, but only as soon as my new computer arrives (this week :) ) as I do not wish to delay the quilt in any way. I chose the lemurs because they are the smallest animals in ZT and in this zoo they will represent the children that at this time should be looking forward (or dreading. :whistle ) school instead of wondering where their loved ones are or which direction their life continues from here. :sad

Great job Zoohio and to all others. :cool

Everyone please :help  Unfortunately at times we all need help but thankfully there are so many willing to give it.

small update:

just in case any of you would like to know (and since it's your zoo you're designing) the American Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) is the charity I'm donating to, when our final numbers are in. The exhibits don't have to be finished, I just need to know the maximum # of animal's in the zoo. I'd like to donate as soon as possible.

Anyway, for your information, the HSUS main website can be found here:

HSUS (http://www.hsus.org)

and the page where you can donate for Katrina (hint hint) can be found here:

Katrina Relief Donations (https://secure.hsus.org/01/disaster_relief_fund_2005?source=drfhbo)

When all is said and done I'll send a link or post a picture of whatever confirmation page/email they send me for you all to see, as a symbol of everyone's hard work.

when it's your turn to add your exhibit, the zoo will be emailed to you as a zipped attachment from the person who had it before you. When you're done creating your exhibit, you'll save it and email the zoo to the next person on the list.

Yes, but right now they're helping the animals without homes and food, and all the injured and sick animals from Katrina... you can make a donation that specifically helps the Katrina Rescue efforts, and it is being well documents that HSUS is actually helping the animal Katrina victims. So regardless of how I (or others) may personally feel about HSUS that's why I'm donating to them for this.

(and btw, this site isn't exactly objective themselves, I'm noticing themes in what they choose to say about organizations and what organizations are chosen to be "documented". Regardless of my own feelings on any of those organizations,I don't like the fact that this site obviously has their own agenda. A better place to do research on charity organizations is here (http://www.charitynavigator.org) (Charitynavigator.org).  )

this is the last time I'm going to respond to this as it is getting OT.

I am not donating money because I necessarily like or approve of HSUS. My own personal feelings have no regard on the matter. If you read my previous post, you would see that I am donating SOLELY because they are the main organization that is helping out the animals which are suffering from hurricane Katrina. I also stated that I am donating to a specific fundraising effort, in which all proceeds go to the hurricane efforts and NOT the HSUS directly. This is about the animals who are suffering from the hurricane, NOT the HSUS.... they are simply the means to an end right now.

The website you mentioned, whether they are "behind the scenes" or not have their own agenda as they seem to oppose any groups aimed at animal "rights" and not animal "welfare". Again, my personal feelings aside...the site you posted is not completely objective and therefore they are bound to put information in a light befitting their subjective feelings.

But again, that is NOT the point. The point is, the HSUS is spear heading the effort to help the animals from hurricane Katrina, therefore, I am donating for THAT cause and that cause only.

Donation Update..

Ok all, I just wanted to let you know that as of now, including Fox's pending animal, the zoo will have 14 animals and 13 exhibits. It seems to be dwindling down, and the sooner the charities(all of them) get the money, the sooner they can help out animals and people. Therefore, as of now I will donate $15 (14 animals + 1 for the animal I would do if I could...or because I'm weird and like even numbers) to the HSUS and will post a copy of my confimation letter/webpage/email here.

BUT that doesn't mean you can't help!! For any animal that is added onto this quilt I will still donate 1$ (I wish I could do more, but I can't) to the HSUS (Humane Society of United States) solely towards the animal rescue efforts needed from Hurricane Katrina.

14 animals are pledged already, there's still 18 more left to be done! and $18 more potential dollars!

Also keep in mind that for every exhibit in the zoo Zoohio is donating $1 and Blue Heron is donating $2...AND Blue Heron's company will match his donations. So every exhibit counts.

Thanks again guys :)

If there is still room I would like to work on the zoo, and add peafowl to it.

The only thing is I may have to work late a lot this week and if that's the case it might take me a couple of days once I get the zoo.  I hope this is OK.

EDIT:  If peafowl are already chosen, let me know, and I'll pick something else.

I have updated the list at the top and have added both Bengal and Peacenote1.
Thanks, and I am sure will see something from Tyto Alba shortly.

Also, to update Honors mention of Blue Heron and my donations; my share will be given to Blue Heron (my best friend). This way his company will match the total of both ours together!

I think there will be room for everyone that wants to take part. So, don't let that be a concern. If nothing else I will have Zoohio start a new map. I want everyone to participate that wants to. I want for the company that I work for to pay. So, the more people participate the better for fun and better for money. Thanks to all those are taking part.

boblus----Winrar only opens file with the .rar extension if I'm not mistaken. Winzip opens files with the .zip extension. I don't believe winrar will open and retrieve winzip files. You could try. Make a back up copy first, then try it.  If I'm wrong about this, please let me know. :)

what email service would you be using to send it? some services, like aol automatically zip files that are sent....

also, WindowsXP comes with it's own program that zips files as well, if I'm not mistaken.

If it's ok with zoohio, you could do as BluekittySC said and make a backup copy of the zoo (either by saving it as normal, and then resaving as a slightlydifferent name (example: quiltzoo vs quiltzoo2) or by finding the actual file on your computer, right clicking on it, click copy, then paste in the same folder and rename it something different). Then send the backup copy to me using Winrar...I have both winrar and winzip and can rezip it, then I can send it to whomever was after you.

i open all my winzip files with winrar but i dont think that winzip can open winrar files (but again not certain i will have to check it out and edit this if i find they can)

ok checked it out and no you cant open winrar with winzip but can open winzip with winrar.

And look at the donations!  :w00t
I have edited the Contributions on the first page of the topic.

I'mnot sure what the program name itself is, it's just integrated into XP. I don't use it myself because i have winzip, but you should be able to zip any file by:

right-click on file
choose Send To
Choose Compressed (zip) folder
and it should go from there.

and it does zip it into an actual .zip file so it's compatible with winzip

Someone please correct me if I am wrong:
XP uses winzip or pkzip. It depends on the the pc and manufacturer. Again, please correct me if I am wrong!

I think some PC's might come with Winzip, but what windows uses is integrated into it's system, not a seperate program. When I got my new computer, it had XP and didn't have winzip or pkzip on it, but I could still unzip and zip files using the method I described above. I had to put my old version of winzip on the new computer myself, manually.

So as far as I know, XP doesn't actually use those programs, but rather utilizes the same technology integrated.

EDIT: This might make it a bit more clear...for example, I techincally have two zipping programys, Winzip and the XP integrated "zipper"...make sense?

Great news everyone! I've finished my exhibit. I will pass it on to Panda11 as soon as he gives me his email address :happy So I had two penguins Pauline and Petra. Penguins are very special creatures. They show freedom and team spirit. Hope this exhbit is OK and I have contributed well to the Quilt Zoo. So the exhibit is really next to the pavillion but is not to close to damage the pavillions look. So here's the first photo people watching from the Pavillion as Paul runs past in the Enclosure :D

Well I was able to start on the zoo a bit early and finished my exhibit.  I chose the Common Peafowl because I think that in  times of trouble it's good to remember that even the smallest and lowliest of us can make a difference.  It is easy to think "I'm only one person" and I thought the peafowl, as one of the first animals available in the game, with low attraction and price, was the perfect reminder of how EVERYONE can make a difference.  Even in the time I've had the zoo the peafowl have gotten over $2,000 in donations!   :happy

While I had the zoo, it hit the one year mark, and we received a commemorative seal for that.  We also had our first rhino baby born.  There was one tragic event though.  Paul and Pauline's baby got stuck climbing out of the deep water.  I received no messages saying he was hungry or thirsty, but noticed his needs all in red as I was looking through the list of animals.  I picked him up and set him on the ground, and immediately it said he was "dying of illness."  I hopped into zookeeper mode and healed him, but even though the vet bag closed up it wasn't enough and he didn't make it.   :(  The good news is Pauline is expecting again.

Also I crated the female African elephant because she wandered around the WHOLE time I had the zoo, saying she was going to give birth, but never did, and in the meantime kept neglecting her needs.  I also added an ATM because guests kept complaining that they didn't have one.

Here are some pics:

it works the same way as for zt1 people with the earliest version of the game will have to go first as otherwise the game corrupts - so thoses with the ES will have to wait till those without have done their bit the problem though would be if any user animals are used then thoses with the ES will have problems as not all user animals are compatible.

Ok, I'm done with playing... can go on forever, but I think its time the zoo goes to the next person.
Everything is going very smooth, guest are happy, we're a 3,5 star zoo and the only 'problem' we have is that the Bengal tigers are just too happy and are breeding like rabbits, but they have still plenty of space so I didn't put too many up for adoption.
Paul and Paulina had a new baby, who got stuck again... but this time we were warned and looking out for this little trick to appear again.. so I picked it out of the water, fed it, and now it's just a happy penguin. Number 5 is on the way too... just have to wait for the egg to hatch.
The giraffs are without a male, but since the 2 females had their girl-baby's I decided not to put a new male in just yet...
The Peafowls are giving a headache to the warden (and me...) because they keep on pooping like .. I have no idea who poops like this!
The Rhino's and Elephants are happy, but no babys comming yet.
My RedPanda's are doing just fine. The next warden will have to watch them a bit and see if they are not getting too crowded.

pictures in a minute

Who's next???

I just finished reading through the topic and I could do the makhors. I don't really know how much space will be left on the map, but if there is space that would be my choice. They represent... determination for living in the harsh climate. The people who visit the Delta Zoo can be inspired to break-through the tough times and hard living conditions.

If there isn't space left, I totally understant.

I realize I'm an idiot for doing this, with all my new responsiblities, :rolleyes  but I'd like to volunteer for the fennec fox. He's small (like the children) and he's versatile (eats anything) and he lives in a harsh environment (desert) yet he survives, even without water. That be okay?

And a p.s. - personally, I don't think we ought to allow Trex to do his part because he's no longer a member.

Here's another pic, of the exhibit this time. Asian elephants are renowned for helping injured and ill members of their herds. They have also been known to adopt youngsters. The elephants first represent strength, for rebuilding the homes and property destroyed by Katrina. They also represent strong family ties, needed to help everyone get through this disaster.

I've finished with the Crested Gibbon! Here are your pictures, and I'll post finance info tomorrow and pass the zoo along then. ^^

First, I've set up a Reptile House (http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a362/cacunaizootycoon/DeltaZoo/reptilehouse.jpg) behind the small safari food court someone made. It really helps keep guests from getting bored over there. :) Near the House and filling up a small, blocky space where nothing else would really go, there's a lovely tree-and-flower display (http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a362/cacunaizootycoon/DeltaZoo/pinkyellowflowerstree.jpg). A small seating area with benches and some more flowers and a tree (http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a362/cacunaizootycoon/DeltaZoo/pinkflowerstree.jpg) rests behind the Gift Shop that someone set up. Two more benches (http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a362/cacunaizootycoon/DeltaZoo/benches.jpg) line the fence. The donation box (http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a362/cacunaizootycoon/DeltaZoo/happycustomer.jpg) is framed by flowers and a shady Myall. As you can see, the guests are pleased. Finally, the exhibit!

There are three "areas:" the monkey bars (http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a362/cacunaizootycoon/DeltaZoo/barsarea.jpg) and grove on the right, the main feeding area (http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a362/cacunaizootycoon/DeltaZoo/feeding.jpg) on the left, and the hills with a small pool (http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a362/cacunaizootycoon/DeltaZoo/hillspoolfromfence.jpg) in the center. Seen from the back (and top of a hill) (http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a362/cacunaizootycoon/DeltaZoo/fromtopofhill.jpg), the whole thing has a lovely effect.

Lots of things happened while I was building! First of all, I noticed a lot of messages about zookeepers not being able to reach various animals and objects, so I assigned one keeper to each exhibit and labeled them ("Keeper James - Lemur," for example). I renamed all animals with numbers in their names to "(Lemur) Lord/Lady," depending on their gender. Fear not, I didn't get rid of any of the names you had given them. Lord/Lady is a great way of keeping track of the gender ratio, and it eliminates those unattractive numbers.

Lots of deaths due to old age, unfortunately. They were as follows:
--- Pandino, Pandano, Pandina (had a baby first), Pandana, Unnamed Male = Red Pandas
--- Two unnamed male Peafowl
--- Unnamed female Bengal Tiger
--- Paul = Penguin
--- Unnamed female Giraffe
--- Unnamed male Rhino, unnamed female Rhino

I replaced the two Rhinos with new ones, but didn't replace any others as they didn't seem to need a boost to their population.

On a happier note, lots of births!
--- 9 Koalas
--- 3 Lemurs
--- 4 Red Pandas
--- 2 Wild Horses
--- 2 Penguins
--- 5 two-baby pairs, 1 three-baby set of Bengal Tigers
--- 1 Asian Elephants (female)

I altered the Lemur waterfall slightly because they kept falling in the water and complaining about not having enough space.

The Bengals needed more space after a while, so I released all males (including babies) to the wild and adopted a new male. All male babies born after that were kept.

Tom the Wild Stallion was fighting his comrade, Dan, so Tom was released to the Wild. He had no mate.

I moved all the endangered-birth balloons to a more consolidated position near the main gate, since I had no use for them. They were formerly all spread out, languishing where they had been placed whenever their owner was born. They take up less space now.

Formerly 3.5 stars, the zoo is now 4.5 stars!

Yes! Crookshanks and Artemis both had incredible things to show! I'm afraid my exhibit may lower the qualitiy of the zoo... :bag. Oh well, can't wait!  :)
Title: Hurricane Relief Quilt
Post by: Artemis on January 28, 2006, 11:58:47 AM
Unfortunately, no, Pauline is gone. I must have missed her message in the flood of births and whatnot. :(

Zoohio: Oops, I think you read the list wrong. ;) There were no Giraffes born, but one female did die. They ended up being without a male altogether, so I adopted one and now both females are pregnant!

Csleesburg: An accountant? Goodness me, no, I'm just organized. :P

Okay, here we go: As of May, Year 3, the admissions proceeds are $10,420 and the donations are $256,225! The zoo is now 5 stars!

I went back in to check the finances and name my Gibbons. During the few minutes it took, we got two new Lemur babies, a Koala baby, and one unnamed female Red Panda died. I adopted the male Giraffe and the two female were soon pregnant.

Oh! I forgot to post what the gibbons represent! Their curious habit of holding up their arms for balance will help the hurricane victims in their quest for balance and stability in their new and confusing lives.

I'll zip the zoo and send it back to Zoohio in a couple of hours -- I've got to turn on my mom's laptop (the only computer with XP to zip things) and it's a whole fol-de-rol, so patiently we must wait. :)

Edit: And I've sent the zoo on its merry way, so good luck to everyone in building their exhibits. ^^ Be kind to my Gibbons, eh?

OK folks, I have updated the first page listing!

Admission $10,420
Donations $256,225
                          _____________
Total        $266,645

This total may change as it is supposed to be half the admission and other sales total! Please watch for the update!!!!

We are now at Five Stars and there is room for more. I will contact the next person on the list and wait for the map to come back to me.
Excellent job Artemis with all the updates, and to everyone envolved! :approve

Is it okay if I do something like this but altered in my topic?

So sorry folks, I had completely let this slip by. If that happens again, send me a personal message and remind. Zoohio has been very preoccupied with his house lately.

Holidayrythym  was unable to open the map. So will connect with the next person on the list.

I finished! The zoo is so large that I had to keep it paused most of the time, so there aren't many updates to give, sorry! (Click the pictures to expand)

First, to reach the markhor exhibit the guests will have to hike up a small hill. This is representative of the trials that the people have gone through.
(http://img126.imageshack.us/img126/9404/delta15ee.th.jpg) (http://img126.imageshack.us/my.php?image=delta15ee.jpg)

At the top is a nice guest viewing area including a small food court for the hungry guests.

The markhors have the names Mary, Maddie, Mark and Matt. They also represent the struggles of the people as well as their perserverence living in harsh conditions.

Here is the exhibit from the guest perspective. You can see how it slopes down from the viewing area to the normal ground height.

Finally, here is the overhead and I hope you like my exhibit!

I am afraid we are quickly running out of room here! I will contact the next person. I hope they can find some space for their animals.

Ya, I think there may be enough space on the right. It will just have to be a sort of long and skinny exhibit, sorry CS!

Well, zoohio, it's ME and I was just looking at the lack of space! Luckily for me, I picked the Fennecs, who are small and fit in a small space. They are also symbolic of those who have to just fit in where they can find. Send it along, I'm ready for 'em! :)

The map is moving and csleesburg should get it any moment.

I hope there is room, if not, the map will be submitted for download.

I am sad to report from csleesburg that the zoo is in financial trouble.

When she opened the map, there were several complaints that animals were needing water or dieing, but the zoo cash is -$500,000.
She did what she could by selling buildings and such, but the animals were aging and there is no money to replace them.
Sadly enough, even with all her attempts, she could not raise enough money to put the fennec fox on the map.

I will look at it briefly and see what can be done at the moment and then decide if this should be submitted for download.

Any advice would greatly be appreciated. If you look at the last map that penguinman sent in, you will be able to see the layout.

PLEASE HELP :sad

:sad You could try and sell all trees except for the ones in animal exhibits that need them. As long as they have some plants and the correct ground cover it doesn't really matter about trees. Raise entrance price and remaining buildings' prices as well. :wtg  :wtg

What I don't understand is this: When I got the map it was in freeform and therefore cash was unlimited. I don't see why it would change when I send it to someone. It's all very confusing...

Post by: zoohio on April 11, 2006, 06:16:44 AM
Ok folks, here is the scoop!

After reinstalling ZT2 on my pc, I opened the map to see what the problem was....there were many issues...
1) Animal happiness was in the red!!!!
2) Guest happiness was in the red!!!!

Donations were not coming in, guests were leaving unhappy, ring-tailed lemurs were throwing themselves into the water, etc.......!!!!!
The reason there were no adoptions allowed was simple. The Animal Organizations warning showed we were unable to adopt any animals. The zoo was in such deplorable conditions that it appeared that purchases were not possible; and I did not know this was possible!?!? I knew that animals could not be adopted, but to make even the most simple purchase of a water dish was not possible!!

Our first lesson: Zoo Building 101=keep the animals happy first, the guest will come, and money will come in their pockets!

First, I went into zoo keeper mode and started cleaning exhibits, feeding and grooming animals.
Then I reassigned zoo keepers to several exhibits. This was a problem: You can have as many gates as you want, but if you block the gate with an object, the zoo keeper cannot get in or out!
Then I started using all the tools the game provides for us.
I checked the animal exhibits one by one, first big problem: Way too many animals in the exhibits, thus the zoo keepers could not clean up, or feed fast enough. I think that 23 Koalas is cute, but 23! I started releasing and adopting animals.
No sooner did this happen and the donations started coming in again.
I sold the entire elevated pathwork for money since no one was using them.
I added restaurants and restrooms as the guests were all complaining.
I checked the skytram and no one was riding and the average donation was $20. All the complaints were the same: "Wish there were some animals to see"; "Those animals do not look healthy";..... The ride was not making any money. Just costing money in maintenance.
It is now turning a profit, average donation is $50, and the guests are in line to get on the ride.

I added a compost bin for recycling funds. The ring-tailed lemurs have new friends, Tapirs! A baby Black Rhino has been born, as well as a baby Crested Gibbon. Some of the exhibits are big enough to add other animal species to them.

Unhappy Animals=Unhappy Guest=No Money!!!!

This is why when the zoo made it to Csleesburg, she could not do anything. It took almost three hours of my work to make the animals happy this morning.

Admissions: Are now 989 almost 1000 guests!
Admissions Income: $13, 780
Donations: $315,444.00 up from the $258,624 when I opened the zoo!
Drinks/Food: $58,476
Recycling: $72,779 up from $35,284
Shops $34,590

I made the necessary changes to make the animals happy. We are still in the negative as far as cash flow, but the peeps are coming in now!!! I am still deleting water dishes since there were too many animals and the zoo keepers kept placing them--again maintenance that costs money!

From here you should watch it very closely. If you leave it unnatended bad things will happen. Who made it like that?

Well, I don't think it's any one person who did it, it's just that none of us (as a group) were paying attention to the zoo as a WHOLE. We were all concentrating on our exhibit, and getting it ready and passing the zoo on. I don't think we were paying enough attention to long-term effects (like the lack of a compost heap) of actually running a zoo. I sold the conservation center (since the animals were breeding quite well without it :lol), and like zoohio, released/adoped quite a few animals. There were over 12 Bengal tigers in that space and at least 8 of them were adults! :shocked

Like zoohio, I went around cleaning up exhibits and feeding/grooming animals, but it didn't give me enough money to buy the fennecs, sadly. I made a desert space for them, though, so if we decide to add them, it's ready. I'm glad to hear the zoohio was able to bring the zoo back 'up to standards', too.

One thing I noticed was that many people nicely named their animals, but many of you named them Lord and/or Lady. Now this a problem when one dies, or if you have to release one. Keep in in mind that if you have Koala Lady and click on her family tree, it shows child Koala Lady and mate Koala Lord. That's not very helpful, actually. I tried to give names to quite a few of the animals, to clear this up, and re-named the lemurs and koalas with numbers (like Koala Lady 15 and Koala Lord 17) arbitrarily, because when you go to release an animal, you try to release the oldest ones, so they don't die of old age. It's fine to name them, but don't take away the numbers, either, or you lose track of them, and who is whose parent or sibling.

I'll try again, if zoohio wants to send the zoo back, but he may just submit it for upload.  ;)

Csleesburg is right; it is about each of us handling the zoo. We are a team.
We are also a group of people who found one another at the Zoo Admin site, and there is a special bond between us---> Zoo Builders

What I should do is submit this zoo as a horrible scenario to Yellowrose as our next contest. See who can actually turn it into a money making zoo.  :lol

I can send it back to csleesburg when I get home from work and let her work her Fennec Fox exhibit.

-raises her hand proudly- I was paying attention to the zoo as a whole. Woo. :P Aaanyway. I'm afraid it was me who started naming them Lord/Lady, but I didn't even think about the age factor! I usually go through family trees and release all the oldest members -- grandparents or parents so only siblings remain. Heh. Sorry. :>< Will we be making another quilt after this one runs out of room? Such fun!

That sounds like a fun idea, actually!!!

That's really crazy that it was in such bad shape.  I didn't know it would not let you purchase things if it got bad enough, either.  Never happened to me I guess.

How's the peafowl exhibit doing?   ;)
Title: Hurricane Relief Quilt
Post by: csleesburg on April 11, 2006, 11:14:35 AM
Well, other than their constant complaining about a 'smelly exhibit' (typical peafowl), they're doing fine. They have several babies now, too. They seem to like their little corner exhibit, and like to perch in the trees. They especially like the bananas and apples in the hollow logs.

When I get done with the zoo, I'll give all y'all a full 'report' on it. Who has babies, statistics, finances, etc. ;)

:lol I don't know how this happened though! When I had the zoo it was a 5-star zoo with happy animals and guests and everything looked fine, including when I saved it! Maybe it got corrupted when I tried to send it to you.... I'm so sorry about that since it must have been something I did since when I got it and saved it, everything was fine... Something very odd is going on here, since, like I said, you should be able to buy a food dish since it was a freeform game with unlimited money! Well whatever, glad you got it to work better Zoohio....

Must have been corrupted. Once again: Can I do something like this in my show and tell topic?

This is off-topic, Koala King, but yes, you can if you wish. Just not the Hurricane Relief idea. It's called a Zoo Quilt, meaning it gets passed from person to person.

Sorry I was so late about this. I chose the Fennecs because they can fit in anywhere. They survive in very harsh conditions and are a very cohesive family group. They stay together and have children, no matter what the conditions.
