Title: Genki's Screens
Post by: genkicoll on March 06, 2006, 06:11:44 PM
Here is a Savannah rest area.  These 2 restaurants serve the entire zoo (small map), and the guests are extremely happy.  I made this zoo with NO UCI's, and did not have CC at the time.
Zoo stats are:
Zoo Rating = 95
Guest Happiness = 93
Animal Happiness = 98

More information and the zoo itself can be found at ZTUF, HERE (http://zoxaeus.com/ZTForums/index.php?showtopic=1330)

The Botu is a wonderous creature:  Elegant blond woman in a blue gown on land, dolphin in the aquatic state.  This scene shows the botu in a forested church setting:

We had a lot of fun over at Tek with last month's Mystery Date contest, and my "date" and I were assigned a Savannah/Desert theme.  This is the entrance to the zoo:
(http://img294.imageshack.us/img294/3994/desertentrance2rx.th.jpg) (http://img294.imageshack.us/my.php?image=desertentrance2rx.jpg)

And a viewing area for the Savannah mixed exhibit.  The other exhibit with the broken bust in it is African Wild dogs:
(http://img293.imageshack.us/img293/5615/desertviewing0xt.th.jpg) (http://img293.imageshack.us/my.php?image=desertviewing0xt.jpg)

njbums was a great date!  I'll let him (her??) show his own areas off ;)

This zoo and all of the other Mystery Date Zoos can be found HERE (http://www.zootek.thecrazyturtle.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=2028).  Screenshots on page 3 and zoos on page 4 :)

Ever wonder what happens when a T-rex tramples a small bathroom?  I only made 2 adjustments to this picture:  Made it bigger so you could really see it and added the wording. :hehe

I wanted to make a screenshot in a semi-formal setting using some of my favorite creations. I also experimented to see if the items from the clay, brick and secret garden packs would look OK together, and it seems they do! :wtg

What you can't tell from the screenshot is that all the water is animated (waterfalls, fountains and the water surrounding them)

I have 2 zoos I am working on right now, and with this one, I wanted to do something a little different with my zoo entrance.  Walking straight ahead into the zoo will bring you to the rest area, where you can dine AND view animals every which way you look!  Here in our Exhibition Zoo entrance area, you will find Komodo Dragons and Crocodiles on your left, and Caudiptyrex and Anteaters on your right.
(http://img90.imageshack.us/img90/1609/exhibitionentrance5iq.th.jpg) (http://img90.imageshack.us/my.php?image=exhibitionentrance5iq.jpg)
At the time this picture was taken, guest happiness had just hit 95 :wtg If you'll take a closer look, you'll see that guests are confined to ONLY the entrance area, with the rest of the park blocked off with decorative fencing.  There are 2 reasons for this at the moment:  1st, I haven't done any other building yet! :hehe and more importantly, this method will garner you LOTS of benefactors.  I'll add at least 3 exhibits on ONE SIDE of the entrance before I open that side up for guests to peruse, then do the same for the other sides.  Using this method, I have one zoo with over 600 benefactors.  You read that right - Six HUNDRED!!!
Title: Genki's Screens

Wow, 600! Great tip Genki! And that entrance looks great!  :wtg

Post by: Firehawke on March 31, 2006, 09:56:55 AM
600!?!?!?!  Wow!!!  That is a ton of benefactors!  I can't blame them---your zoos are great!  I love the layout of the Exhibition Zoo!  Keep up the great work Master Zoo Builder!
Title: Genki's Screens
Post by: genkicoll on April 01, 2006, 08:01:14 AM
Heading to the left of the entrance, we continue with the rainforest theme.  On your left side you'll find an exhibit of very happy Bengal and White Bengal Tigers.
(http://img82.imageshack.us/img82/8605/bengalmix6eh.th.jpg) (http://img82.imageshack.us/my.php?image=bengalmix6eh.jpg)
and on your right, Black Leopards share their exhibit with Clouded Leopards - suitability for these animals is 99 & 98, respectively.
(http://img339.imageshack.us/img339/7149/leopardmix3nd.th.jpg) (http://img339.imageshack.us/my.php?image=leopardmix3nd.jpg)
TIP: When you're starting off with mixed exhibits, the best way to do so is to build the animal exhibits side by side, separated by only a fence.  When you get the animal suitability as high as you can, then delete the fence separating them.  Tweak as needed :)

You can see that there is still decorative fencing blocking the guests' path because I haven't finished building past this area.  Guest happiness is now at 97 with 351 guests :D

Title: Genki's Screens
Post by: KingCow on April 01, 2006, 09:12:45 AM
wow, that leopard-mix exhibit rox! but I have a little pet peeve; i don't like the iron bar fence. since you have the elevated viewing area, you should change the leveled fence to a concrete fence, without the windows. then it would give the guests more of a surprise, and it looks much more realistic. other than that, the zoo looks awesome!
Title: Genki's Screens
Post by: genkicoll on April 01, 2006, 05:03:58 PM
I leave the fencing as iron-bar until the animals start to feel crowded (unless they're usually shy, in which case I start with the rock wall) because the more the guests see happy animals, the happier THEY are! :D

As guests pass the great cats, they will come to a corner where they see Mandrills on their left, and an Okapi/Bongo mixed exhibit straight ahead.  Because the Okapi are so picky, their exhibit suitability is at 99%, while the Bongos have an 89% suitability.  Animal happiness for both species is 100%, and both have had babies :D
(http://img126.imageshack.us/img126/9371/1bongookapimandrill6pw.th.jpg) (http://img126.imageshack.us/my.php?image=1bongookapimandrill6pw.jpg)
Continuing around the corner, the guests will see a rest area with an animal theater, playground for the kids and restaurant...
(http://img126.imageshack.us/img126/5076/3restarea5zd.th.jpg) (http://img126.imageshack.us/my.php?image=3restarea5zd.jpg)
...and a chimpanzee area on their left.
(http://img93.imageshack.us/img93/4336/2chimps2nq.th.jpg) (http://img93.imageshack.us/my.php?image=2chimps2nq.jpg)
Title: Genki's Screens
Post by: genkicoll on April 01, 2006, 05:12:21 PM
As they go around yet another corner, they can view the endangered Lowland Gorillas on the left....
(http://img93.imageshack.us/img93/3019/5gorillas4bx.th.jpg) (http://img93.imageshack.us/my.php?image=5gorillas4bx.jpg)
and more endangered animals, the Orangutan, on the right.  Room has been left in the exhibit for another toy, which they'll want once their population increases.
(http://img126.imageshack.us/img126/9194/4orangs1dy.th.jpg) (http://img126.imageshack.us/my.php?image=4orangs1dy.jpg)
As the guests continue forward, they are back at the entry area.  Overview so far:
(http://img126.imageshack.us/img126/5688/6overview4ao.th.jpg) (http://img126.imageshack.us/my.php?image=6overview4ao.jpg)

All prohibitive decorative fencing has been removed to give full access to the park.  Guest happiness is now 96 with 803 guests :wtg

Now, back to our Exhibition zoo, as guests pass the Orangutans, they'll find Asian Elephants.  Turning to the left, they'll find an observation area where they can view the Elephants and Javan Rhinos.
(http://img314.imageshack.us/img314/6378/javanasianeles6oa.th.jpg) (http://img314.imageshack.us/my.php?image=javanasianeles6oa.jpg)
Use of the invisible fence to separate the exhibits gives the illusion of a combined exhibit.  Separate, each exhibit is at 100% suitability.  If the invisible fencing is removed, the Elephants are at 96% suitability, and the Rhinos at 99%.  While this would work, I like the exhibits just fine as-is, so I left the fence separating them  :P

(http://img151.imageshack.us/img151/7852/jagstapirs5xm.th.jpg) (http://img151.imageshack.us/my.php?image=jagstapirs5xm.jpg)
On the other side, you'll find the Allosaurus...and a bit further on, you'll come to the Coelophysis exhibit, and  another corner, which leads back to the chimps and rest area (restaurant and animal theater).
(http://img151.imageshack.us/img151/835/coelophysisallosaur7zj.th.jpg) (http://img151.imageshack.us/my.php?image=coelophysisallosaur7zj.jpg)

Back at the entrance, as you turn to the right, you enter the Savannah portion of our zoo...and what better way to merge from rainforest to the savannah than to have a creature that likes a bit of both, the Leopard:

Last year, there was a contest to create a city by the sea.  These are 2 I came up with, a coastal resort and a costal town:

This was another contest zoo that had to be all marine animals, and it was either a large or medium map (can't remember which).  I chose to go with an Atlantean/rainforest theme for it, and filled the whole map somehow :rolleyes

hehe, there's some amazing competition!  The person who got 1st place on the City by the Sea contest had something incredibly original and breathtaking :D  And thank you so much for the compliment!

In the MM zoo, here's an overview shot of the bay towards the back of the zoo.  The invisible fence was used to create 2 exhibits within the bay:
(http://img157.imageshack.us/img157/7500/mmbayoverview8ft.th.jpg) (http://img157.imageshack.us/my.php?image=mmbayoverview8ft.jpg)
And another overview towards the front of the zoo:
(http://img157.imageshack.us/img157/3144/mmoverview0ej.th.jpg) (http://img157.imageshack.us/my.php?image=mmoverview0ej.jpg)

EDIT:  I'm looking for a user created animal that I'm sure I saw here at ZA, but now I can't find it.  Can anyone point me towards the equine (horse/unicorn) that has a mane of fire??

Post by: genkicoll on April 16, 2006, 11:01:26 AM
I've started a new zoo, and I'll be using all user-created animals, as this zoo has a volcanic theme.  I've never used the lava path (despite having created it :P), and that's what inspired this zoo. :D  Instead of giving a creative tour, I'll be rating the animals as I go.

Here by the entrance we have the Mythic Salamander (top exhibit) and the Lavagator (bottom exhibit):
(http://img295.imageshack.us/img295/6545/volcanicentr4hq.th.jpg) (http://img295.imageshack.us/my.php?image=volcanicentr4hq.jpg)
I like the Mythic Salamander, but it's exhibit is extremely boring.  It requires solid gray stone, and lava pits, volcanoes and such are habitat neutral, but it will not tolerate any foliage or rocks, and the highest suitability I can get it is 81% - with the colorful ferns I put in, the suitability dropped to 80%.
Conversely, the Lavagator is one of my favorite user-created animals ever!  They're black gators at first glance, but glow red around the edges in the water.  Lovely exhibit that needs brown and gray stone, dirt and salt water, as well as some elevation.  Guests absolutely love this animal (I'll get back to you on the Mythic Salamanders, I forgot to look :P)

When I took this shot, what you see is all there is in the zoo, and guest happiness had just hit 96%!

To the other side of the entrance you will find Volcanic Unicorns (on the right) and Pyro Zebras (on the left).  Both are programmed to have volcanoes/tar pits in their exhibits with no effect on their happiness, making for some interesting exhibits :D
(http://img160.imageshack.us/img160/1991/volcunispyrozebs1at.th.jpg) (http://img160.imageshack.us/my.php?image=volcunispyrozebs1at.jpg)
They are programmed closely enough that they can go in a combined exhibit, but I'm a stickler where exhibit suitability is concerned, so these 2 exhibits are separated by an invisible fence.  Both are crowd pleasers and a lot of fun!  Alternate view of the Volcanic Unis with a view of the entrance:
(http://img160.imageshack.us/img160/1367/volcanunisentr4rc.th.jpg) (http://img160.imageshack.us/my.php?image=volcanunisentr4rc.jpg)
Next is the Dragon, or Flying Dragon from here at ZA.  An uninspired shot as far as photography goes, but you can see that even the babies breathe fire ;)
(http://img110.imageshack.us/img110/5861/vflyingdragons7ge.th.jpg) (http://img110.imageshack.us/my.php?image=vflyingdragons7ge.jpg)
The highest I could get the suitability for these dragons is in the low 90's, always a point of contention for me, but the animals are happy, which is always a plus.  There's a glitch with this animal that shows that the preferred foliage is the Baobob tree, when in reality they prefer a highland exhibit with Himalayan Pine trees, etc.

A couple more shots for you :D  These next 2 animals are available here at ZA.

The Eurasian Wyvern is a fun animal, and very nicely done.
(http://img173.imageshack.us/img173/5681/vwyverns5ri.th.jpg) (http://img173.imageshack.us/my.php?image=vwyverns5ri.jpg)
(http://img173.imageshack.us/img173/3328/vreddragwyv7kj.th.jpg) (http://img173.imageshack.us/my.php?image=vreddragwyv7kj.jpg)
You can see the Wyverns in the background here, as well.  In the foreground are my favorite user-created dragon, Lehner's Red Dragon :wub  At first glance this dragon seems a bit strange, but it has a lovely exhibit (which in this case I tried to make a bit more natural, which is why you can't see some of them clearly) and is absolutely adorable.  It's the only dragon I've seen that both walks and flies, and it will suddenly plop onto its side and curl up for a nap - so cute! :wub

Where'd you get the Volcanic Unicorn and Pyro Zebra?
Title: Genki's Screens
Post by: genkicoll on April 25, 2006, 07:26:22 PM
Thank you very much for the compliments :D
The volcanic unicorn and pyro zebra are both available at Zoo Keeper's Lounge (ZKL) HERE (http://www.lunamanar.com/zklounge/index.php?showtopic=198):)

The Red Worg from Zoo Tek is a handsome creature with a haunting wolf-song.  They breed quickly (but not so quickly that you're frantically selling to keep the exhibit from being crowded), and make an interesting exhibit:
(http://img179.imageshack.us/img179/8084/vredworg4ez.th.jpg) (http://img179.imageshack.us/my.php?image=vredworg4ez.jpg)
Next I put in a savannah exhibit with zebras, gazelles, ostriches, water buffalo and wildebeest, using the oasis to make the exhibit a bit more interesting...and yes, you DO see a tar pit in the exhibit!  A little something extra for more interest, but it's separated from the actual exhibit with invisible fencing ;)

Ah, on the ZKL files, sometimes you unzip them and you'll have a folder called "animals".  Just re-zip the folder and name it...whatever animal it is like "Pyro Zebra.zip", then change the extension to .ztd :)

Here we have the Desert Tiger on the left and Kemp's Ripley Turtle (from ZKL) on the right.  The tiger has a wonderfully interesting exhibit as you can see :D  The turtle is a lovely dark bluish color, and THIS turtle certainly doesn't poke around!  This little guy is FAST!
(http://img154.imageshack.us/img154/244/vdeserttignkempsripleyturt6ny.th.jpg) (http://img154.imageshack.us/my.php?image=vdeserttignkempsripleyturt6ny.jpg)
Next are the Coral Snakes, also from ZKL.  These little guys don't have a slither or swim animation, but they do coil up (as snakes do) and are certainly an interesting creature to exhibit for the guests.  The observation area for the snakes actually goes back behind the restaurant and through the trees on a butterfly path:

The last exhibit in this zoo is the Lava Leopard.  This colorful animal needs a lot of elevation, and will only accept Himilayan Pine trees for foliage.  They actually don't like the fire in their exhibit, so the fires are separated from the exhibit by invisible fencing:
(http://img56.imageshack.us/img56/4053/vlavaleopards2yz.th.jpg) (http://img56.imageshack.us/my.php?image=vlavaleopards2yz.jpg)

Title: Genki's Screens
Post by: genkicoll on July 06, 2006, 11:58:56 AM
The only time I put 2 restaurants close together is on a small map.  These 2 restaurants will feed every person in the zoo up to the max allowed guests (1000).  There are no other food stands or snack machines (or bathrooms, etc) in the whole zoo.  I will put in the first restaurant and just leave an empty space for the 2nd restaurant until there seem to be a lot of hungry guests - THEN I add the 2nd one.  For small maps, it's been a very successful tactic to use - they make loads of money and the guests are very happy :D

The Japanese Pic took about...mmm...maybe an hour?  The contest ends soon, and the winner will be voted on by ZTUF members.  At the moment there are only 2 other entries, so at this point I'll at least end up in one of the top 3 spots!

The tank walls on that last picture are pretty too.

However do you find such...interesting...mixed exhibits?
Title: Genki's Screens
Post by: genkicoll on July 08, 2006, 09:34:07 PM
I've been coming up with "interesting" mixed exhibits because I've been experimenting! :D
The "Abalone Avenue" pathway was made by my protege at ZTUF, Stormy.  Between the two of us, we have over 200 paths out ^__^ See?  The Stepping Stone path is just my most recent release. :)
The waterfalls (one the elevated portion of the restaurants) are actually an animated fence (well, fences, actually) that I made for Tek - along with matching, animated water-terrain paths (so that you can have water running down slopes!).

Some of the Dragon Rider items have been released now :D

Here's a new zoo, featuring some of the brick-themed items.  Overview of what I have so far:

Guests can take the ramp up to view the unicorns, or they might decide to take the one of the elevators!

I just love the elevators, they're so much fun!  They're programmed to have the door closed when in use, and guests love them.
Only problem is that there doesn't currently seem to be a way to program a DOWN elevator, which is why there's a ramp leading up, as well.  Besides, only happy guests will use attractions, so we wouldn't want any angry guests stuck at the top of a cliff :P
More screens soon :D

I've made the layout of this zoo completely different than usual.  I normally put a food court right inside the entrance area, but not this time!
(http://img116.imageshack.us/img116/2369/zoobrickentranceax7.th.jpg) (http://img116.imageshack.us/my.php?image=zoobrickentranceax7.jpg)
In front of the moose and black bear exhibits is a guest area:
(http://img70.imageshack.us/img70/2561/zoobrickpettingcastletc7.th.jpg) (http://img70.imageshack.us/my.php?image=zoobrickpettingcastletc7.jpg)
At the base of the unicorn cliff is the croc exhibit.
(http://img74.imageshack.us/img74/7190/zoobrickpettncrocsyb8.th.jpg) (http://img74.imageshack.us/my.php?image=zoobrickpettncrocsyb8.jpg)
An interesting thing to note is that guests at the bottom of the cliff CAN see the unicorns - apparantly, map depth does not affect the guests' ability to see.

Although there is no way to configure a Down elevator that is next to a cliff, it is possible to configure a Down elevator that is on top of a cliff. It is just a matter of having graphics that look appropriate and realistic.

Thank you, Seraphii :D  I can always count on you to give nice feedback :)

To the right of the entrance, you may have noticed some sand.  That's because the town council put aside 2 large plots of land.  One for a live nativity (to the right of the entrance),

Two more.  First, guests can view Magnet the Polar Bear, or visit McBethlehem's Grill for a bite to eat:
(http://img154.imageshack.us/img154/366/genkidec06magnetpr3.th.jpg) (http://img154.imageshack.us/my.php?image=genkidec06magnetpr3.jpg)

And this one is a modified screen that I did for ZTUF's screenshot contest.  Since it didn't matter what the suitability was for the animals, I made the exhibit a bit more snowy, and used Tek's new snowy post and rail fence as an enclosure.  It's programmed as a decorative fence, but can be used for exhibits if used with the invisible fence ;)

Awww~ Seraphii closed her screens topic :(  Well, I'll see if I can keep away from designing long enough to post some of my own here and there.

Taking a step back in time, a zoo I did for Tek's Color Wheel of Fortune contest.  We had to pick a color, then Jan PM'd us our task for the contest.  I picked blue, and my theme was BLUE and BEARS.  First I laid out my design based on the number of exhibits I was going to need.  I bordered EVERY fence in the zoo with Catfish's blue vines (this was before we turned them into fences - would've been a LOT easier if they'd been fences THEN! lol~).
(http://img76.imageshack.us/img76/6465/blueemptymn2.th.jpg) (http://img76.imageshack.us/my.php?image=blueemptymn2.jpg)
Then I started filling up the zoo using every ingame (except magnet and polar bears) bear, and using EVERY variety of bear that Ghirin had created (they're GREAT!):

Haha~ I used 2 varieties tiles (these particular ones show the terrain between them) with the barkdust path on either side, up against the exhibits.  Then I decorated with flowers on top of the "barkdust", just like you would with real landscaping. :)

Here's a little screen of something that was to be a Christmas present for all the sites, released on Dec. 24th.  A couple of the sites (including this one) got too busy to release it, but y'all should have it soon!  The Gingerbread fence:

Dear Genkicoll

I hate to bother you but I have a question.  I believe that your pics and zoos are fantastic.  The question that I have is how did you get the tunnel to go through the bottom of your mermaid/beluga exhibit on page 6 of this discussion?  I would appreciate your help in this matter.  Thanks in advance.

hehe :D  I'm happy to answer your questions.

bcassidy, the tunnel through the beluga exhibit is the Underwater Tunnels pack at Zoo Tek.

Bengal_Tiger, the building in post#166 is African_Raptor's greenhouse, available at Zoo Tycoon Unleashed Forums (ZTUF).

Rosinas Cat, the green path is in my Colored Brick Path Pack (http://zootekphoenix.com/forums//index.php?automodule=downloads&req=idx&cmd=viewdetail&f_id=145) at Tek.

Title: Re: Genki's Screens

There are several paths that I made specifically for landscaping, and that is one of them - the grass path.  There's also barkdust, a couple of other kinds of grass, etc.  At some point I'm going to combine all the landscaping paths together in a single ztd, but I keep forgetting to do it :slol:
