Njbums Zoo
« on: February 14, 2006, 10:06:26 AM »
I am starting a new zoo, where I am going to attempt to pick up all 28 in game awards (there is two more from dino digs which there is some kind of bug and are not attainable). To make this a little more challenging, I am not going to use any hacks and set my cash at $500,000.00. I am also not going to use any user created items.

The tricky part will be trying to make the approx. 50 exhibits needed to acquire all the awards, with the small amount of money I am starting with. I usually set myself up with about 3 million dollars when making a large zoo.

I'll post pictures as I go along, let me know what you think.  :D

I started off the zoo by putting in a restaurant, gift shop, carousel, animal theatre, and most importantly a compost heap. I set the admission price to $28.75 and recycled the existing paths. The first animals I put in were the sabertooth tiger, 1 each of the whooly rhino and mamouth, and giant turtle. The Sabertooth exhibit had a suitability rating of 99%, so I picked up two awards: Excellence in Exhibit Design Silver and Gold Placques and additional $15,000.00.

Once the turtle eggs hatched, I picked up two more awards: Complete Ice Age Zoo and Excellence in Dinosaur Design – Gold Cup. Once I acquire these awards, I removed the wall separating the Rhino and Mamouth. I did this because it would make it a little easier for the scientist to maintain three exhibits instead of four.

I also put in panda bears and snow leopards, because I have had success in breeding these two, and it is a great source for donation money.

Thanks Guys

The next animals to go in were the beluga’s and narwhale’s, which put’s me real close to picking up some more awards. The cash balance is starting to go down a lot now since the marine exhibits cost some money.

I wanted to put in the Pacific Walrus next, but I need to complete some research before I can do it, so I switched over to start with the savannah animals. I put in an African Elephant, Black Rhino and a Giraffe. Since the money balance is starting to drop (under $300,000.00 at this point), I decided to sink their exhibits and use cheap fencing. It doesn’t look the greatest but it saves a lot money. Once these were completed I picked three more awards: Quality Animal Care, Diverse Species: Silver Placque, and Highest Quality Exhibits: Silver Certificate and an additional $5,000.00

Finally the Walrus research is done, while I was setting up the exhibit I acquired to more awards: Best Zoo: Silver Trophy and Highest Customer Satisfaction: Blue Ribbon and additional $25,000.00. Once I completed the Walrus exhibit, I acquired three more awards: Artic Aquatic Care, Excellence in Artic Conservation, and Excellence in Artic Construction and an additional $75,000.00 and pair of penguins.

The next exhibit to go in obviously will be the penguins. At this point, I have acquired 12 awards, almost at the halfway point. I made the penguin exhibit a bit larger than normal, and picked up the Penguin Colony: Silver Plaque, the easy way by buying an additional 14 penguins. I also put in a swim shack and a restaurant right across the path from it, which should help out a lot with the cash flow.

At this point, I decided to go after the whale award, but I ran into another snag. I started to make a humpback whale exhibit, and realized the research has not been completed yet, so I placed sperm whales in instead. While I was making the Orca exhibit my 500th customer came in and I acquired: Most popular zoo: Silver Certificate.

Congrats on all of the awards!!!  What a wonderful looking zoo!!!  2 questions----which map are you using and did you start building immediately or did you wait for a year so most of the items were unlocked???

Thanks Firehawke, I am using the large grass map. I started building right away, although I did take my time initially. I researched selective categories, so I could get what I wanted a little quicker. But I have messed up a couple of times and started building an exhbit when the animal or item has not been completely researched. Hopefully I am past that at this stage. More pics are on the way.

Now that my humpback research is completed, I put them in an exhibit and picked up two more awards: Superior Whale Care: Gold Plaque and since I now have 15 awards I acquired Best Zoo in the World. These two awards netted me an additional $120,000.00 and a baby Giant Panda

My overall stats up to this point

16 awards
zoo rating:93
guest happiness:96
animal happiness: 97

1 scientist
3 zookeepers
2 marine
1 maintenance worker

compost heap profit: $65,000.00
I have 6 buildings, all have made a profit, and the total profit to date is: $85,000.00

Total available cash: $488,000.00

I am now going to put in a few more savannah exhibits and maybe decorate a little in order to bring up my zoo rating to 95 and acquire Best Zoo: Gold Trophy. Once I win that award I will start putting my marine shows. I’ve noticed in the past when I placed shows in my zoo rating suffers a little.

I decorated the spots I had left blank earlier with flowers, fountains etc and then placed four savannah exhibits in: spotted hyena, wildebeast, african buffalo and antellopes. While doing this I picked up two additional awards: zoo of the year and highest quality exhibits: gold certificate. These awards gave an additional $190,000.00 in cash and unlocked northern elephant seal statue.

After completing my savannah exhibits, I went around checking my animals happiness levels and making sure I didn't have too many animals in each exhibit. While I was doing this I picked up the award I was waiting for: Best Zoo - Gold Trophy and additional $25,000.00. This brings me up 19 awards and my cash went up to over $700,000.00. I dropped in my dolphin show (pictured below) and plan to put in the sharks next.

Thanks guys

After putting in the dolphin show, I decided to put in my sharks. Since I have a little extra money I decided to get a little more creative with these exhibits. I placed the shark tunnel in the middle and surrounded it with the great white, mako, tiger, and hammerhead shark exhibits. I picked up the Excellence in Shark Conservation: Bronze Shark Statue award and additional $10,000.00 in cash.

I decided to wait before putting in my Orca show (I want the Dolphin Show to be closer to achieving it’s award before putting in a competing show), so I went back to doing dinosaurs. I decided to make exhibits for the dino’s from the Jurassic Period.

While I was putting in my dino’s, I picked another award. Diverse Species – Gold plaque and additional $30,000.00. I achieved this award by having 30 different exhibits.
