Error when trying to start up ZT2MM
« on: December 28, 2006, 04:11:30 PM »
Here is the problem. On Sunday (December 24th), I upgraded my video card. Installed it using the most recent drivers, no problems. Started up ZT2 and it came up just fine.

Now today, I went to start it up (no changes had been made since Sunday), and it's giving me the following error:

Zoo Tycoon 2 Warning
Unable to get video memory size from DirectDraw

Click here for more information about this error
1800MHz, 1280MB

[Continue] [Safe Mode] [Exit]

If I hit exit, it ends immediately. If I hit Continue, it comes back with another error:

Zoo Tycoon 2 Warning

You need at least 32 MB of video memory to run Zoo Tycoon 2. (0 MB detected.)

1800MHz, 1280MB
0M nVidia (0x00f5)
C-Media Wave Device (0x7012)

[Continue] [Safe Mode] [Exit]

=======================

I have an AGP GeForce 7800GS OC, which has 256MB of video memory. Windows itself detects it properly, as does everything else. 1.25GB of RAM, 1.83GHz AMD Sempron 2600+.

Any ideas? =(

Sounds as if you don't HAVE enough video memory (although it's been upgraded). I would suggest going to your computer store and buying a new 'memory chip' so that you'll have enough to run ZT2 now. Sorry, but that's what that message means.: :( :

There's definitely enough memory. (256MB on the video card, 1.25GB RAM).

Oddly, the game is working again. I think something else was incorrectly preventing the system from reading the card. Most likely it was UltraVNC Server, which was hooked into the display driver.

Thank you for the reply, though, csleesburg! :)
