Hello folks. :original: I made a koi pond with 20 fish. (That's it.) About 30 minutes into the game, I went back to look at the pond, and all of the fish were gone! :shocked: Do koi have life spans or is this a bug?

I had the same problem. I saved my zoo and went to the pond and the koi were gone.

I replaced the empty pond with 30 koi this time. When I came back, there were only 10.

Aww, they didn't fix it?

A lot of people reported that during beta testing... I guess they didn't care enough to fix it

Oh I like koi, thats too bad, they might release a patch to fix it. Does it happed when you save and load the game or just randomly while playing?

I had this promblem and solved it by making a deeper pond. Use deep water and wake sure they can't get near land otherwise they beachthemselves and die

I have deep water, but the pond is pretty small. Better consider this!

Oh, and does putting in lily pads do anything?

If the koi reach land, they automatically die. Try them in a tank to see if they still die off at that rate. Then we'll know if its a bug in them reaching land when they shouldn't, or if they actually have a lifespan.

Also, carnivores will eat them, just in case you had them in a pond with anything that hunts

Hmmm where do you get the koi from? I've never seen them. Are they adoptable, enrichment, or just ambiants?

I'm not sure if this is a related subject but...

I once made a live food lizard exhibit, and found, that after a while, the lizards just disappear. Possible that's the problem? I don't know otherwise.

This was a problem for us in the beta. They would disappear during the game or when you would open a saved game. I hope they did not have time to fix it and will make it a priority now in a patch. What is the point of having them if they don't work in the game.

Here's the answer. I just took apart the koi files, and discovered the lifespan=.25. So, they're treated like ambients. Only put 1-2 in, and then you've got to replace them. Don't fill your tank with them, as they won't live. Someone will have to make a hack or alter the file to get them to live longer.
