A few questions about programs needed for editing
« on: August 21, 2006, 09:08:29 PM »
Is there anyway I can get WinRar for free, or do I have to pay for it? If I do, can I still edit without it?

Are there any other programs needed for editing besides WinRar, WinZip, and an image editng program?

Well, for one, you can keep using WinRar after it "expires", without registering. It basically just uses nagware to try to get you to buy it.

Now, are you trying to edit or make new animals? If you are trying to make new animals, you need Notepad, WinRar, WinHex, DXTBmp, and an image editing program.

I may try to do both.

If WinHex needs to be paid for, is it similar to WinRar where you can keep using it anyway?

The one the tutorial links to says it needs to be paid for.

I just hope it's like WinRar where I can still keep using it.

Just type winhex download in google and you should be able to get it. And yes, it asks you to register, but it'll let you continue using it

'k, thanks, now I have everything needed.

By the way, how do I access the ES and AA animal files for editing and such?

Go to C: Program Files/Microsoft Games/Zoo Tycoon 2

Now, it all depends on the animals:

If you have AA and you are making something based off the tortoise or kangaroo, open x101_000.z2f and get the files there.

If you are making an AA animal open x110_000.z2f and get the files there.

If you are making an original ZT2 animal OR an ES animal get the files from x100_000.z2f
