WinHex costs money for the full version but you can continue using the trial, it will just annoy you by asking you to buy it every so often, but there is also a free hex editor called XVI31 you can find here :)

I don't think you need to "draw" to be a creator.  You can be a creator just by simply editing an animal's name and attributes.  I've tried to create and I have no idea about what you mean by "draw".  I can help you though if you need help, and if it doesn't involve the gift (I don't know how to help with the gift).

You can also always team up with someone. We have Skinner and Coder requests threads, and if you browse the "Coder Needed" thread you will find lots of people who would love to have someone code a project for them - and then in return you could get an animal YOU want to make skinned.
