Some files will not install.
« on: May 21, 2006, 05:18:41 PM »
I have tried installing Marine Mania on my laptop, my other laptop, my old computer and now, this computer, and I get the same disk error over and over again. I am convinced I have a defective disk.

While I am installing Marine Mania, several messages keep popping up that say
Quote
Zoo Tycoon- Marine Mania and Dinosaur Digs Setup encountered a disk error while writing to the file C:/Program Files/Microsoft Games/Zoo Tycoon/xpack2/sounds6.ztd. Make sure your hard disk is not full, and that the file is not in use.
and I am given the option to Abort, to Retry, and Ignore. Obviously I try again but the file still can't seem to install into my computer - or any other computer I've ever tried to install it in for that matter. So I ignored it, and it continues installing it but come up with the same notice again with the terrain6.ztd, staff6.ztd, ui6.ztd, and scenery6.ztd files.

And at the end of the installation if I choose to ignore the files that it did not install properly it says
Quote
Zoo Tycoon- Marine Mania and Dinosaur Digs was installed successfully, but some files were not copied. If the game does not run properly, you need to reinstall it.

Basically in the end what this does for me is I can't make water tanks without the game crashing, and I can't make Marine Specialists, etc. This has completely annoyed me to no end and significantly ruined my experience with Zoo Tycoon. Any help would be appreciated greatly.

The problem is that I can't get the files from my disk, so I believe if someone can send me the terrain6.ztd, staff6.ztd, etc. files over the internet, I believe that could get Marine Mania to function properly.

I'm sorry, but sending such files could be illegal. Try checking your disk for defects, and use a CD repair kit. If your disk is new, you might be able to get a replacement.

Thank you for the advice. I shall now head to a store that repairs disks.

Have you tried accessing the contents of the CD with windows explorer? If you can see the files needed try manually copying them using edit/copy then navigate to the ZT game folders that installed and manually edit/paste the files to the proper folders.

Tried it. I got an error notice saying "Error Copying File or Folder Cannot copy [File]: Data error (cyclic redundancy check)."

yeah i got that with my copy of AOE II  had to get a new disc in the end - mainly cos i think it had got damaged so your best bet is to find somewhere that can fix scratched discs or get a new disc ( i dont know about ms/bf but when my sims 2 disc got broken i sent it and some money - not a lot about £6 and they replaced the disc for me (actually they sent me all 4 dics not just the broken one which was nice)
