.dds files not opening!

i've tried to figure it out myself, and i got my dad to help me to. right now i am trying to recolour a bench and i am using penguinman's tutrorial OCT. when i go to open the .dds images they won't open with any of my programs. i've tried the GIMP, irfranview, paint, nerosnap, and adobe and non of them work they all say it can not open this file because it is in the wrong format. and i have the tab in the open window set to all files to! please help me if you can!!:help thankyou

Please download the VAT - it will give you help you. You will need to use a photoshop plugin or DXTBmp to open dds files
