Hallo, seen so many other good show and tells here thought I'd try one of my own - here is my small city zoo!
First up the Asian Elephant Enclosure:
-
Here's a closeup of the food area:
-
And of course the Elephants...
-
That's the only overhead shot I have at the moment - next time the snow leopards and the lions!
For now, hoping you all remembered your mother's yesterday:
-
Dude, Mothers Day is in May! :rolleyes
Nice to see a new face in zoo building! Nice shots!
Oh, and before I forget... CURSE YOU FOR HAVING RFLEVTIVE WATER! :P Just kidding, but you are lucky!
-
I like the 2nd elephant picture very much, that is very beautiful !!!! :approve
-
Thanks all! Mothers Day in the UK was last sunday, I must admit I didn't know it was different in the US :blush
I got sick of not being able to see the variant skins so finally got myself a top notch computer, no regrets! :P
Just realised I forgot the first thing you see in the zoo - the entrance:
-
Here's an overhead of the snow leopards exhibit - you can see a bit of the lion enclosure as well:
-
And here are the lions! I don't usually have them but I really wanted to try out the cat climber and see what it was like:
You may have noticed the staff training area in teh middle, this is just something I'm experimenting with to see if it helps them do their job any better...
The results? Well my next post should answer that :P
-
Here are the zookeepers doing what they do best:
Same as ever!
EDIT - weird...that zookeepers sitting on mid-air - didn't notice that before :mellow
-
Here's a close up of the lions:
-
And finally the snow leopard at play:
Next time we enter the tropical rainforest...
-
Nice pics ! :cool I like the snow leopards !
-
Now to the tropical rainforest - here are the gibbons:
-
Look out behind you...
-
And here's the tiger exhibit as seen from the guests point of view. I messed this one up a bit, made it too small. Whenever they have cubs I have to get rid of the father and one of the cubs :sad
(http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h75/alloy61/guestviewtigers.jpg)
I wanted to try out the pit idea, but the tigers kept falling in! :>< Hence the post and rope fence...
-
The Happy family:
-
And now to different climbs - the red pandas:
-
Mother and child:
-
Here are my further experiments with the staff centers - this time I intially tried to set it up on a raised platform to give the animals more space, but had trouble putting fences around it:
Any improvement from the staff? Not really - I regularly have to clean up the red panda exhibit
Next time to creatures that enjoy the water!
-
Really good pictures, alloy61 - specially the mom panda and her baby !! :wub
-
You have ES! I can't get it until it comes out for mac. :sad Great Gibbons! Keep up the good work!
-
Very good photos :wtg :wtg
-
Thanks all! As promised here is the first of my water-loving creatures - the crocodiles:
-
Here's one of them now, chowing down on a piece of fish:
-
On to a much colder exhibit - the polar bears:
-
Here they are splashing around happily:
-
Watching those polar bears is thirsty work, bringing us to the eating area and playground:
-
Wow! I love the second croc pic!
-
A Happy guest who clearly enjoyed the face-painting kiosk:
-
Refreshed the guest peer over onto a desert exhibit, what could lay within...
-
Of course - the lovable fennec fox!
-
An overhead of the spectacled bears
(http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h75/alloy61/bearsexhibit.jpg)
-
There's one now, scratching his back
(http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h75/alloy61/spectacledbearsleeping.jpg)
-
The Wolverine Exhibit
(http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h75/alloy61/wolverinesexhibit.jpg)
-
Such table manners these little things have!
-
And now to the final exhibit in the zoo - the zebra
(http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h75/alloy61/zebraexhibit.jpg)
Well that's this zoo full - it was just a small city zoo after all!
Thank you for all your lovely comments, any requests for exhibits in my next zoo?
I think for my next experiment shall be with the elevated paths, I've a few cunning plans yet...
-
Have you ever considered taking a job as a animal photgrapher!!
Your pics are absoultey BRILLIANT! :wtg :happy
-
I agree. Great photos!
-
I like your exhibits ,they are all quite good. But maybe you could try using some more foliage (maybe biome brush ?) or some more water or rocks, at the moment, they aren't really that much it (except the ones with the moats and that crocodile one, those were amazing).
You could also try making exhibits bigger or making mixed ones.
This is no offense, just constructive critisism. Your zoos are not bad.
That foodcourt was great.
-
Don't worry - no offense taken! I'm always trying to find ways to make the zoo more appealing to the eye.
Here's a snippet of the next zoo, although I'm not finished yet, it's part of my rainforest sky tram circuit:
-
Excellent aerial photo on that last shot. You must have an amazing PC and video card.
I also love the bear photo. He looks so cute!
-
Great well done, nice pictures, and nice exibits!! :wtg
-
For littler animals, use the x key to crouch down and take pictures. There must be peafowls in that zoo, it says one just hatched!
-
Heh heh I'll have to watch out for that message board in future - Don't want it spoiling all the surprises!
Well the zoo's finished now so we shall start at the zoo entrance:
-
Looking at the map you decide to head to the Rainforest Sky Tram first - up the path:
-
That is a very nice zoo and you should be proud of it.(i'm not very good at zoo building)
-
This was my first attempt to get the elevated path to meet the top level of a plateau exactly - unfortunately it didn't work, the only way I could manage it is to go slightly above the path and then back down - if anyone know's how to do it then please let me know:
The sky tram is located around a food court, but you decide not to eat incase you make yourself ill during the ride:
-
The first view from the sky tram is of the mountain gorillas:
-
Sadly the sky tram swerved just as you were trying to take the shot of the gorillas leaving you with a patch of open sky.
Not to worry though - you opt for this postcard instead:
-
The next exhibit you pass on the sky tram is the bengal tigers:
-
From the sky tram you get a stunning shot of Arnold, the White Bengal Tiger
(http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h75/alloy61/whitebengal.jpg)
-
The sky tram shoots down over the waterfall (as seen from the first pic) revealing the mixed exhibit of Black Leopards and Jaguars living together peacefully:
-
The next exhibit is covered in foliage, even with the sky tram's vantage point you struggle to see what's in it:
-
Then out from the shade of a tree you see one of the inhabitants heading for lunch...
-
This takes you to the second sky tram station stop, where you decide to feast at the nearby restaurant:
-
That's all for today - you now have a choice - you can take the sky tram back to the beginning or you can head to the nearby enclosure that contains some peafowl...
While you make your choice you glance at another gorilla postcard and tempt yourself with sending it to your ex...
-
Wow. I really like the postcard of the gorilla on the tire swing.
-
After a bit of deliberation, you decide the cheesecake wouldn't sit well back on the sky tram.
So peeking round the corner you look into the Tapir enclosure on your way to the peafowl:
-
You also peer into the rhinos and notice that they're playing hide and seek:
-
Needing a rest you stop by this fountain display:
-
Just before turning right into the peafowl area, you watch the Galapagos toroise plod it's way into the water for a refreshing drink:
-
And here's the overhead shot of the rhinos, tapirs and galapagos tortoises that you just passed:
-
Turning right you come across two of our gargantuan mixed exhibits - giraffes and antelope, and peafowl, koalas and giant pandas:
-
Great pics, alloy! :w00t The tapirs in the water pic is fab! :wtg
-
The giraffes and antelope viewable from the elevated path:
-
Thanks Rosina! Here is a closer look at the antelopes:
-
And the majestic giraffe
(http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h75/alloy61/girafffe.jpg)
-
The mixed panda, koala and peafowl exhibit was an experiment to see how the pandas would get on with their associates - at this point I was feeling sorry for the koalas...
-
Even now, the poor Koala spends much of his time in hiding
(http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h75/alloy61/themysticawaits.jpg)
-
The peafowl however thrived and bred rapidly - here's a male trying to attract a female:
-
However the experiment remained a complete success - both pairs of pandas had daughters as you can see:
Oddly enough my giraffes regularly escaped into the panda enclosure, and the biome suitability stayed in the green? The fence was complete, I wonder if it was a glitch, or whether the fact I used a pit for most fo the fence allowed it to 'detect' the neighbouring exhibit and classed it as ok?
That's all for now, more to follow later in the week as you visit the zoo's final exhibits :penguin
-
I love your koalas (figures)! That one of it in the nesting box is great. The koalas aren't poor, they seem to be getting along great.

Oh don't get me started on animals escaping through intact fences! :angry In my current zoo its the flamingoes' favourite trick, but all sorts of creatures do it at some point or other. :blink I think its just a glitch, so theres probably nothing we can do about it. Dont know why it still accepted the new biome though. My escapees usually get into guest areas.
Great pics again, alloy :wtg
-
Koalas are very shy creatures. They are also very picky eaters. Do you have eucalyptus in ES? I don't have it, so I don't know. Look in the zoopedia and you'll find out why they're like that.
-
Thanks Rosina and Koala King!
Yes the Koalas have Eucalyptus in ES - here's one eating out of an elevated food table:
They also have it in a bowl or a pile on the floor. There is a Sydney Blue Gum Tree too, though I don't know if they can eat the leaves off of it
-
While I was taking this snap the giraffes must have snuck in again...
It's actually interacting with the maple tree!
-
And just to prove it's happy in the biome for some weird reason... :blink
(http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h75/alloy61/giraffeinvasion.jpg)
-
Anyway - on to my final exhibit - the tundra zone!
-
A close up of the eating and viewing area:
-
The polar bears are sealed off from the others by using a deeper pit - the others are stopped from falling in using the holiday fence
Here is a pair of them trying to ignore the zookeeper
(http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h75/alloy61/polarbears2.jpg)
-
In the larger mixed section of the tundra zone the musk ox tend to stay in one area choosing to shun the reindeer and penguins
In return the reindeer at least seem to feel the same way...
-
Here we see the baby penguins
(http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h75/alloy61/penguinsandreindeer.jpg)
-
And that concludes this zoo! To remember the trip you treat yourself to one more postcard...
-
I love that last koala picture! Can I buy it? How much is it? :tongue1 Looks great! I hope you have koalas in your next spectacular zoo!
-
Hello all! the next zoo is now finished! There seems to be an African theme going round the show and tells at the moment, and it seems I've also succumbed!
Presenting:
The African Safari Zoo!
For now all you are going to see is the entrance, I still need to get a few more screenshots and it's getting late so tomorrow we'll go through the exhibits.
-
I love your zoos! The giraffe seems to look a LOT better in temperate than savannah. Maybe I'll use that from now on! :huh I also like the look of your next zoo!
-
Going for a grassy valley theme? I like the looks of it!
-
COOOOOOOL!!!!!!!!!!!
Your pictures are the bests, I love your zoos, specially your tundra exibit!!!!!!
I can't wait for more pictures
PS: from where have you download the giraffe?¿?¿?
-
thats the regular reticulated giraffe from the game; it seems to enjoy the temperate forest theme... :rolleyes
-
Wow - thanks all! Kingcow's correct the giraffe is the one from the game.
The first gate through the jeep tour leads into a monster savannah exhibit, so big I could only capture it in 2 screenshots
So here's the first half:
-
And the second half:
-
This area is full of african herbivores - the gazelles:
-
Here's an Ostrich enjoying his dinner
(http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h75/alloy61/ostricheatingjeep.jpg)
-
And here it seems the Zebra has spotted me...
-
And of course the elephants! Here's one bathing in the water
(http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h75/alloy61/elephantplayingjeeep.jpg)
-
I do love the elephants, though next time I'll think twice before giving them a pursuit ball
(http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h75/alloy61/playball.jpg)
-
Through the next door lies the desert area
(http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h75/alloy61/desertjeep.jpg)
-
Here you see the camels socialising near the oasis
(http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h75/alloy61/camelsoasisjeep.jpg)
-
This Oryx runs rings around the jeep as it trundles through
(http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h75/alloy61/flyingoryxjeep.jpg)
-
The next gate passes through into another savannah exhibit
(http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h75/alloy61/awdexhibitjeep.jpg)
-
Inside are a pair of African Wild Dogs, Sheba (the female) has recently become pregnant
(http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h75/alloy61/awdjeep.jpg)
-
And here we reach the rest break of the jeep tour where you decide to stop and use the amenities (even though my guests don't :>< :
Until tomorrow, where we will proceed through the rest of the tour!
EDIT - Ooops! Posted the same pic twice :blush - this is the proper one!
-
Cool photos cant wait for more :wtg
-
wow nice pictures!!! :wtg
-
Thanks for the kind comments!
Heading back into the jeep you carry on to the second half of the tour, where you see a pair of hippos marching:
-
Another pair seem to be having an argument:
-
As the sun begins to set you glimpse a flamingo:
-
And here's the overhead shot of the exhibit:
-
The next exhibit you come to has a stream running through the middle, as the jeep begins to cross you are surprised to see an animal on the bridge
(http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h75/alloy61/okapicrossing.jpg)
-
At the edge of the stream you see a lemur surprise one of it's fellow inhabitants:
-
You feel a curious chill up your spine as this chimpanzee gives you a cold stare, as though offended by the intrusion of the jeep:
-
And an overview of the tropical exhibit:
-
Yay beautiful photos i done something like what you did with your okapi but only with my lion :wtg :wtg Keep the photos comeing there great
-
The final stop on the jeep tour takes you towards a herd of Gemsbok, at first they ignore you stoically:
-
Your pictures look so real :w00t :w00t :w00t :w00t
-
Then they spot you and swiftly run away...
-
:lol Scardy cats :lol
-
Thanks Hughesy! (They are aren't they! :lol )
Here's an overview of the exhibit, which as you can see is the final exhibit on the tour:
-
Does that mean no more pics :( :( :( :(
could you put this zo up for download it is really good :wtg
-
And here's the Zoo map as a whole:
No more pics for today I'm afraid - anyone want anything special for the next zoo?
-
Will you put it up for download please :D :D :D :D oh in your next zoo could you build your zoo on a mountian and the only way to get to the top is by sky tram with exhibits on the way up
-
I can try and put it up for download if you want - I'll need to look up how to do that!
I warn you though it's only 2 stars (you could increase it by adding an elevated path circuit going round I expect) and I regularly had to fish animals out of the water (the Gazelle found the elephant swimming pool irresistable!)
-
Yeah, I agree with Hughesy, put it up for download!
-
OK it is now available for download! here! (http://zoo.ogresnet.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=8185&hl=)
Im having a go at the mountain zoo, it's more like a stepping stone style at the moment, but certainly different from what I normally do!
-
I tried making a mountain zoo that had a path spiraling to the top, with an Ibex exhibit around it, but the guests wouldn't go more than halfway up! :crying
-
I must say, I downloaded your zoo, and actually went through the entire jeep tour. Does that give you an idea of what I think about it?
In fact, I might even make my own version...I'll probably wait until AA comes out though. Then things'll get interesting...
-
One word about ur zoo WOW!!
-
Thanks all! I must attempt I was tempted to wait for AA but I've wanted to do a jeep tour zoo since getting ES!
I think I'll have to restart the mountain zoo - just doesn't look right yet. Not sure what animals to use yet eihther, though beavers are definitely going to be in there somewhere...
-
What about Ibexes? Seems like it would be great!
-
Finished! The Mountain Sky Tram is done, and there are Ibexes in there too! I've experimented with several different styles of exhibits here, some more popular with the guests than others - it's a five star zoo, and the sky tram is 3 and a half to four stars (depending which station you're at!)
Unfortunately though, I've an early start tomorrow so you'll have to wait for the pics!
Until next time... :Wave
-
Great! Can't wait!
-
Welcome to the Sky Mountain Zoo!
-
As you enter, to your left is the first exhibit, peering over the hedge fence you try and glimpse the animals within:
-
As you get closer you can see it's a family of Komodo Dragons!
-
And here's the overhead shot of the exhibit
(http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h75/alloy61/komododragonexhibit.jpg)
-
You move onto the pathway that leads down into the canyon, glancing ahead you see a curious sight...
-
Getting closer you can see it's a viewing island set into the middle of the exhibit, only reachable by an elevated path (the first of my experimental exhibits)
-
Here's an overhead shot of the viewing island:
It was actually the suspected front cover of AA that inspired me here, although it was disappointingly unpopular with the guests, prehaps they didn't like the animals?
Speaking of which...
-
This is the Black Rhino Conservation Area, and currently contains 6 adult Rhinos and 2 babies, here you can see them playfully chasing one another
(http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h75/alloy61/rhinoschasing.jpg)
-
Here is a Rhino guarding it's young
(http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h75/alloy61/rhinoclose-up.jpg)
-
Here's an overhead shot, where you can see the conservation work in progress as one of the young rhinos' matures
(http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h75/alloy61/blackrhinoexhibit.jpg)
-
As you leave the island (after devouring an ice cream) you glance at the alternative viewing area, and admire the floral display
(http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h75/alloy61/alternateviewingarearhinos.jpg)
-
Here you look into the next exhibit, see if you can guess what's inside:
-
Who guessed orangutan? You may ask the meditating orangutan 3 questions, if you can understand his answer you are wiser than most...
-
Saweet zoo! :cool Awesome pics! Really appreciate the overhead views, exhibits are nicely done. :wtg
-
Another orangutan gives you a sly glance from high up in the tree
(http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h75/alloy61/orangutanslyglance.jpg)
-
Tired, you head towards a nearby gazebo in the shelter of the mountain, wondering what mysteries lie upon it...
Thanks Bazooka!
More pictures tomorrow!
-
Them pictures are amazing i relly love how you show an overhead of each exhibit :w00t
-
Same! I like the island, I wonder why guests don't go on it. :huh
-
Thanks peeps!
The next exhibit contains som very shy creatures (or at least they're always hiding in Chester zoo, waaaay up in the trees...)
-
Here's Tony, apparently giving a speech to his fellow pandas!
-
The next exhibit you come across contains another savannah animal
(http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h75/alloy61/cheetahsprowling.jpg)
-
This particular Cheetah is very hungry :happy
(http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h75/alloy61/hungryskymountain.jpg)
-
This is the overhead of the red panda exhibit
(http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h75/alloy61/redpandaexhibtiskymountain.jpg)
-
And the Cheetah exhibit overhead
(http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h75/alloy61/cheetahexhibitskymountain.jpg)
-
On your way to the next exhibit is the guest information area, complete with a zoo educator who will happily ramble on to thin air for hours on end!
-
In the exhibit behind you see this grizzly enjoying a little swim
(http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h75/alloy61/bathtime.jpg)
-
Hmm... We have mummy bear, daddy bear and baby bear here - all we need now is a young girl with blonde hair!
-
Here's the bear exhibit overhead:
-
The next exhibit contains some of Australia's most famous inhabitants
(http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h75/alloy61/kangarooexhibitskymountain.jpg)
-
The Kangaroo!
-
And here they are relaxing with a nice drink
(http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h75/alloy61/sharingdinner.jpg)
Without a doubt the kangaroos are my top escapees - I'd regularly find them escaping into the guest area and into the red panda exhibit
-
Just past the kangaroo exhibit is the small animal area, where guests can view these exotic species behind a sheet of glass
(http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h75/alloy61/insectsandreptiles.jpg)
-
Time for a quick snack beside the shetland pony ride, (desolate as usual :crying )
The ride has now been reduced in price to see if it inspires any more customers to dare sit on a horse...
-
And now you come to the star attraction of the zoo - The Sky Tram.
Here is the entrance:
And that's it for today - next time I'll take you through the sky tram exhibits!
-
Can't wait! These are nice zoos- I want ES even more now... :(
-
You have a mac, don't you tailchaser? Great pics zoo!
-
erm - I'm Alloy, but I agree Zoo has some great pics too! :P
-
Ahh! :grr I mean Alloy! Great pics!
-
Nice pics :wtg , I love the way you made the jeep tour tree into an arch :wtg
-
Can't wait for some more!
-
wow....those are all very, very nice zoos..good work!!! :)
btw: can you download the reflective water or is that only in ES?
-brett
-
Hey! Where are our pictures? Come back and show us your unbelievable zoos!
You're almost as good as Zoohio.
PS:: I was just wondering if someone with ES would be nice enough to try something for me: to put a sequoia down, and then have a elevated path spiral up around it? Just thought it might look cool.... yeah.
-
Thanks all!
@zoo_tycoon2 - I think the reflective water is just graphics card related, I don't know if it's an ES feature, I've only recently been able to see it myself having upgraded
@tailchaser - I can try the sequoia thing in my next zoo if you like, that'll probably be a week or two away
Anyway! - Back to business - the first exhibit you pass through is the spectacled bear exhibit, here's the view from the skytram:
-
And from on the ground....Hmm...must be hibernation season
(http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h75/alloy61/hibernationseasonskym.jpg)
Hang on, what's that one doing in the background?
-
First time I've ever seen them doing this!
-
And the overhead shot, which also shows the first skytram station
oops, missed the picture!
-
Weres the overhead shot
-
The next exhibit you pass through is a wetlands exhibit, here's the shot from the tram:
Oh....there appears to be an escapee into the exhibit!
-
The beavers are multiplying like rabbits it seems, here's a look at their lodge:
-
The escaped ibex was replaced into his exhibit...again I didn't get any error message saying 'biome is unsuitable' and the ibex was perfectly happy according to it's status. Must have slipped with the biome brush somewhere?
This overhead shows the ibex exhibit and the beaver exhibit:
-
Here's a shot of the ibex from the skytram:
-
Very nice exhibits! :wtg
-
Oh i love all these pictures there amazing
-
Cheers guys! The ibex really seem to be thriving here - they've already got a magnificent herd
(http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h75/alloy61/ibexherdskym.jpg)
-
The next exhibit is of the boreal forest biome:
-
Here's the shot from the skytram - as you can see it's a small pack of wolves, so far 2 of their cubs have been released to the wild, but her other two children have stayed on
(http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h75/alloy61/greywolfexhibitskymountain.jpg)
-
Here is the pack in all it's glory!
-
The sky tram unexpectedly plunges down into a canyon of grassland and a small river running through the middle:
-
Within you can see a herd of Prezwalski's Wild Horse (do horses travel in herds? or is it another name - herd sounds wrong...I'm not sure)
Here's the shot from the skytram:
-
And this is the overhead:
-
You can now see the station ahead, but just before you see a curious cave...
-
Fortunately you're securely strapped in and have a tight hold of your camera as it's inhabitants swarm out towards you!
-
Catching your breath as you get off the skytram, you quickly pop to the gift stall to get a postcard for your aunt:
And that's all for now folks! Next time we'll go through the exhibits at the top of the mountain! :Wave
-
hey alloy do you think you might upload this zoo when the directory is fixed? its amazing and i would love to play it! :w00t
-
I think I can do that - so far there's only one niggling issue where an animal regularly complains about it's biome, although that's something to do with the exhibit design (you'll see later, don't want to reveal it just yet!)
There's around 7 more exhibits to run through yet - perhaps the directory will be fixed by then?
-
Wow - I love the exhibits, specially the horse and ibex !!! :wtg
-
Thanks Crooky!
This is the station at the top of the mountain, where you feel a distinct chill in the air:
(I was very glad when I found out that if you put a fence across the river you can change part of the river to a different biome without changing the whole!)
-
You peer through the glass of the first enclosure, where it seems these polar bears are practising synchronised swimming!
-
This is the overhead shot:
-
Crossing over the bridge you see it's feeding time for the penguins:
-
Next to the penguin exhibit is a food court, where you gratefully purchase a coffee to warm yourself up! (anyone know if there's a hot chocolate stall for download anywhere?)
There are also numerous binoculars, enabling a good view of all the exhibits around the mountain. You take a quick peep at the shetland pony ride, but see no-one riding...
-
Continuing around the mountain you gaze upon the caribou herd, the final exhibit at the top of the mountain:
-
This is the overhead shot:
-
Having seen all at the top of the mountain you head back down on the skytram to view the last exhibits
Here's the view I wouldn't let you see on the way up:
And that's all for today! Next time we'll finish off the zoo, including one of my more experimental exhibits...
-
that zoo looks awsome :wtg especially the caribou(with the one looking at you ) and the penguins ,i can never do hills with my penguins they just go around in circles if i do :D
-
:wtg very beatiful landscaping alloy
-
Thanks very much!
I find using the tool next to the level terrain button helps for hills - it stops them from getting too steep for the animals but keeps it looking nice. I've seen the penguins sliding on them (I think so anyway, I'm never sure if they are just diving into the water only a hill's in the way :crazy ), reminded me of the animal winter olympics they showed on the BBC
EDIT - here's the next exhibit! It seems it's bath time for the bison:
-
They've grown into quite a large herd now - soon some of these will be released to start herds of there own!
-
And here's the overhead shot:
In the corner you can see the children's play area
-
This next exhibit is my secret experiment - a camel exhibit. Here's the entrance from the front:
-
As you can see there is an elevated path in the middle, which the camel's use to cross from one half of the exhibit to the other - whilst on the path they complain heavily about the biome, but otherwise they've had no problems yet!
-
The guests have a path that runs right through the exhibit, allowing an intimate view of the camels:
-
Here's the overview incase you're confused as to what it looks like:
-
And here's my next experimental exhibit - I've heard about them but never tried them until now...
-
No it's not a human exhibit - whatever gave you that idea? :P
It's a guest viewing area, here's the other view:
-
This is the entrance to the viewing area:
-
The Javan Rhinos are very shy creatures
(http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h75/alloy61/JavanRhinosskym.jpg)
-
Here is the overview:
-
The final exhibit is a sunken exhibit so the guests can get a good view of these beautiful big cats:
The mother here seems to be telling off the son...
-
Told off the son is sent away to a corner:
-
Great pics, alloy! The 'shy rhinos' are lovely! :D
And I love the camel exhibit idea - very clever! :idea
-
They soon patch things up however:
-
Thanks Rosina!
Here's the overview of the panther exhibit, which can also be viewed from the food court by the entrance:
-
And that is the end of the zoo! Here is the Zoo map:
Now if I could just find out what biome the elevated path is the animals wouldn't complain....
-
wow, i love the rhinos, i used that idea on my gorrilla exhibit once ages ago! :w00t it looks realy cool doesnt it :wtg
-
thats a great zoo i love it all :)
-
Thanks! When the downloads are available again I'll upload it! Just looking for inspiration for my next venture now...
Any requests?
-
thats a really great zoo, sorry i didn';t realize i already said that but it is great ,what do you mean by requests ?
-
Anything particular you want to see in the next zoo? Whether it's a certain animal or exhibit style, landscaping - that kind of thing.
I'm thinking of doing a challenge zoo next time, perhaps posting the results so if anyone needs help doing a photo challenge they can look here!
-
Besides my earlier request, I'd love to see bison/horses and wolves. Hope you get AA, so we can see the Masai giraffe and other animals.
-
Hello again - sorry it's been a while!
The next zoo venture isn't quite finished yet, I've still got a ways to go yet...
Here's a sneak-peek though, it contains the tree and elevated path you wanted to see Tailchaser!
For some reason it created a floating path section but the guests seem to love it!
See if you can guess what's in the exhibit it goes over :P (smilies are back! :) )
-
that looks awsome but whats the floting path for?:original:
-
I can't seem to delete it - whenever I do the paht section above and below it disappears!
I even tried rebuilding it but the floating section just reappeared - looks kind of cool though, if only I could put a statue on it...
-
if you make it a full block you could probably put a statue on it
-
That actually worked! Once I fiddled with the angle I could select that bit only - I chose to delete it as opposed to putting a statue on it, as floating bits of masonry would creep me out a bit, let alone the guests!
The zoo is now complete! Welcome to Crocodile River Zoo!
-
Now this is where the elevated path leads to:
Still no idea what it contains?
-
You actually had a 1 in 2 chance when guessing what was in this exhibit:
-
That's right - Moose are one of them, here is a mother and son (fitting as mother's day is quite close in the US, even if it has already passed here in the UK)
-
The zoo looks really nice so far! Keep up the good work!
-
And the next animal of the exhibit is:
Grizzly's!
-
Thanks Kiwah!
There was originally a 3rd species in this exhibit as well, see if you can guess from this picture:
-
Thats a great moose pic, Alloy. As for requests, any chance of putting a sky tram in your zoo? The pics that can be taken from the ride can be really stunning.:)
-
I can't see the picture very clearly but this is a question, did you use ES in this zoo?
-
@Rosina - I'll see what I can do!
@kiwah - yes ES was used in this zoo
The 3rd animal was a Wolverine (you can see the boreal den behind the bear lying down). Unforunately I had to ship them out when they escaped onto the elevated path :pinch:
The resulting chaos caused several guests to fall into the exhibit, making the zookeepers tranquilize all the bears and two of the moose before I evicted the unwanted guests
At first I figured a fluke but when it happened again a few minutes later they had to go :(
This next exhibit is inspired from the 'Spirit of The Jaguar' at Chester Zoo -here's the entrance:
-
This is the overhead, where you can see the viewing area of the two species represented in this area:
-
Within guests can get a really close look at the Bengal Tigers, so far I've released 6 of these into the wild, amazing how fast they breed!
-
The other half of the area contains Jaguars - here is one pouncing upon the unsuspecting tree...
-
The Jaguars are also breeding well, this little one's hungry:
That's all for today - I'll post more tomorrow, and try and set up that sky tram!
-
Wow the pic with the tigers are my favorite :) Very nice!
-
I love the tiger pic!!!
-
This next exhibit is inspired from the Jaguar experience at Chester Zoo -here's the entrance:
its called spirit of the jaguar:P i love your pictures, you are so talented
-
that zoo looks great especially the moose pictures
-
Thanks for doing that! It looks terrific. The zoo looks great!
-
Thanks everyone for the nice comments! :ILuvZA
This next exhibit is inspired from the Jaguar experience at Chester Zoo -here's the entrance:
its called spirit of the jaguar:P i love your pictures, you are so talented
Thanks, It's been a while since I've been to Chester zoo but the Jaguar bit is one of my favourite exhibits there - I've altered the earlier mention now
-
you have so many babies in youre zoo Im sooooo jealous!
-
Here's the next section you come across - here guests can sit and enjoy desserts while they listen to the educator:
As you can see the lure of desserts is not quite enough
-
From one dessert to a desert you find the fennec foxes - here the 2 children are having a race while the tired parent retires to the burrow:
-
This is the Australian Exhibit and the first spot of the sky tram - the snow leopards:
-
Looking through the binoculars you see the Koala in the trees and some Kangaroos happily playing behind:
-
You step onto the sky tram and take a better look at the fennec fox exhibit:
-
From the sky tram you can see the pair of snow leopards - they have yet to mate but the zookeepers remain hopeful
(http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h75/alloy61/crzleopardstogether.jpg)
-
I'm sure you'd never have guessed the Crocodile River Zoo contained these
-
The River spans the width of the Zoo, of which the Crocodiles have free rein!
You can also see part of the sky tram circuit here. The guests seemed to prefer using the bridge however - Sorry Rosina - I'll make a much better skytram in the next zoo!
-
There are 11 Crocodiles in total - 4 males, 5 females and 2 young ones - there are also 3 eggs waiting to hatch!
-
Across the water are the Spanish Lynx, they are well hidden today:
-
You decide to head around to the other side of the exhibit where a pair of binoculars may help you spy them out
On the way there you take a quick peek at the Insect house, and jump as a spider leaps at the glass:
-
The binoculars really help you find the Lynx - they are hiding by their cave!
-
Across from the Lynx are the Reticulated Giraffe - these two are having a social:
-
Here's the overview of the exhibit:
-
Only one more Exhibit to go now - you pass it by on the way back to the zoo entrance:
-
The herd seem happy enough, one of the females is pregnant
(http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h75/alloy61/crzbisonexhibit.jpg)
-
Before leaving you stop off at the gift shop, where you buy:
A zoo guide (for the memories, shame you didn't think of it before you toured the zoo!)
On the back is the Zoo Map:
-
You also buy a Mother's Day Card, opting for the less traditional choice:
"This Mother's Day there will be no need to snap at the kids..."
And that's the Crocodile River Zoo!
Someone told me we are able to upload zoos again so I've just submitted the Sky Mountain Zoo!
-
Great job! You've given me some great ideas, even though I am sadly without ES. Your zoos are terrific! Please post some more.
-
I've finished my next zoo now - it's a large zoo map with a special sky tram circuit
I must admit I'm envious of all these AA zoos appearing, I'm looking forward to June 2nd! :character
Pictures will follow soon! :pin_pin:
-
Sorry for the delay, and Welcome to The Octagon Zoo!
This is a large zoo map (boreal forest), and contains 3 sky tram circuits!
-
As you stroll up the entrance you are surprised to see some animals not in an exhibit:
The entire zoo has free-roaming peafowl, we have approximately 30 of them now...
-
Choosing to go on the sky tram later, you look through the window of the first exhibit:
-
The African Wild Dogs are not alone in the exhibit, and tend to keep their distance from these massive beings:
-
Here's the overview, where you can see the nearby rest area and the one sided sky tram (took me ages to get it to connect properly, but got there in the end!)
-
In the next exhibit this flamingo looks like it's trying to hide
(http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h75/alloy61/octflamingohidingfromhippo.jpg)
-
And the overview:
-
The penguins are happy in their icy paradise:
-
Because of the size of this zoo there are several rest areas scattered around, there is another outside the penguin enclosure:
-
The Javan Rhinos have no problems sharing with the Gibbons, although this Gibbon looks to be giving them a piece of his mind...
-
And here is the overview, again there is another rest area, this time a large food court:
-
You stop to admire this fountain before looking into the next exhibit:
-
Here is another of the Elephant Species, this one is quite the artist:
-
And the overhead view:
A word of advice (in case you don't know) - place the browse holders quite far away from the walls! To begin with I didn't and one of the elephants got stuck, became very angry (naturally) and knocked it's way out of the exhibit!
-
This next exhibit brings us back to the Tropical Rainforest, within are these shy creatures:
-
This gorilla clearly is very comfortable:
-
Here is the overhead shot, where behind you is the gift shop:
-
Donations are flooding in from the birth of endangered species, if only the guests could find somewhere better to put their balloons, although this gorilla doesn't seem to mind!
-
You have now completed the outer circle of the Octagon zoo, and you notice that since you left 2 new statues have been placed in the center of the fountains:
-
You make your way to the first sky tram, this will take you to the inner circle of the zoo!
And that is all for today!
Until next time!
-
Great pics, Adam! You have been busy, haven't you?!
I have just got AA, so I think I might find something to do this afternoon!!
Looking forward to seeing more from you soon.:IloveZA:
-
http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h75/alloy61/crzjagbengalentrance.jpg[/IMG]
That looks very realistic - well done:cool:
-
Wow your zoo is amazing i love it alot
-
Great pictures! I like the gorilla in the basket - I've never seen my gorillas make one of those before!
-
You make awesome zoos! Keep up the good work.
-
Great pictures! I like the gorilla in the basket - I've never seen my gorillas make one of those before!
That's most likely because they DON'T make the. You can buy them.
-
now where were we? Ah yes entering the first sky tram tour to take you into the inner circle of the Octagon Zoo.
The first exhibit you fly over is the polar bears:
-
Looking the other way you can also get a good view into the Tapir exhibit:
-
This is the shortest of the three tours, and the final animal on this short hop is the Pandas:
-
And here is your destination, towering high above the centre of the park:
-
The central area of the park is much busier than the outer circle, and is the only public area not to contain peacocks:
-
DUDE how do you get shiny water?. i want some. i like it. its so shiny. i like the shine. shiny. mmmmmm. shinyshinyshiny GIMME SHINY. sorry about that.
-
^^you need to put the 'water detail' as high as it goes, and you must have a good enough video card...i think.
AWESOME ZOOS ALLOY!!!!!!!
-
<<
-
Thanks everyone for the nice comments,
@supremeruler - zootycoon2 is right, the water detail settings need to be on high, although it won't work with some graphics cards
@nique - feel free to try the designs out, keeps me thinking of new lay-outs!
Unfortunately my 3 year old recently figured out how to operate the DVD drive and started playing ZT2 - in his excitement he deleted my Octagon zoo... not his fault though, shows he's paying attention:monkeyrol
I do still have the zoo map pic though - here (http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h75/alloy61/zoomapoctagonzoo.jpg), I always take that pic first before any others.
Hmmm... what to do next....I shall be in my labs! :surfing:
-
alloy, if you don't mind, could I make my own 'octagonal' zoo? your pics just gave me a GREAT idea!!
-
did you do this on challenge or freeform?
-
oh, and i have an awesome video card, so my water turned out shweet. thanks everyone! and what a coinsodence, i made an octagon zoo, but it was different. i divide the map up into eight biomes-boreal, temperate, scrub, savannahh, wetlands, tundra, dessert, rainforest. no grassland or alpine because i didnt have AA, so not enough animals. at the center is a staff center, and the keppers can get to all exhibits, but not out of the octagon(aquabats rule!).
please note i didnt copy you, i just didnt know.
-
that sounds cool supremeruler77...
mine is on a small (grass) map, i made the 4 corners into 5 exhibits...
-wetlands (hippos, crocs)
-jungle 1 (gorillas, chimps)
-jungle 2 (tigers)
-temp. forest (pandas, red pandas)
then, i still need to do savannah (elephants, giraffes, zebras)
Then, the grand finalie (sp?)
a HUGE asian elephant exhibit in the center!!!
wow, so much, off to my own thread:laughing:
-
These pics are awesome!
How do you take the overhead shots? They're cool!
-
^^I'll answer you for him (i know all)
he builds a tall elevated path, stands on it, then takes the pic: :) :
some other users may use cliffs, or take the pic while 'falling' from the overhead view:laughing:
-
<<
whos the other master? or are you talking about alloy...
-
@suprememruler77 - The map itself was done on freeform, The challenge mode can be fun but I prefer to have limitless funds when it comes to creating zoos
@zoo_tycoon2 - I look forward to seeing your octagonal zoo!:original:
@Red-Panda-Freak:
^^I'll answer you for him (i know all)
he builds a tall elevated path, stands on it, then takes the pic: :) :
some other users may use cliffs, or take the pic while 'falling' from the overhead view:laughing:
Hmm - never considered that way before!
What I do is use the 'print screen' button, it's usually near to the scroll lock on the keyboard. This will copy the screen you have in front of you on the monitor.
Then I'll open up a photo editor and create a new window (usually Ctrl+N) and Paste (Ctrl+V or use the menu at the top). In most photo editor programs there's a resize tool, so I'll then resize the photo so it fits into the 400 x 400 size limit for posting.
The last few photos I took here were actually taken from the sky tram as it moved to the central area.
-
i love yuor pics and oh:happyb:
-
Hmm - never considered that way before!
What I do is use the 'print screen' button
what?! i thought you said you used the elevated paths....or was that some other guy..with AA..
anyways.:IloveZA:
-
Greetings All! The next zoo is complete - here's a little taster - the desert food court:
I need to do a little population control first though, as you can see from these fennecs, I started with four in the exhibit (2 male, 2 female) and 2 years on they're up to Fennec Fox 98...:pinch:
The zoo itself is split into several biome sections, desert, savannah, grassland, scrub, tropical rainforest, wetlands, alpine and temperate forest.
I'll take you on the reccomended route and start with the desert.....next time. As I said, those foxes need to be released to the wild, even with 3 zookeepers in the exhibit they just can't keep up!
Till next time!
-
Welcome to Hesketh Zoo!
We will be taking the reccomended route through the zoo, so please take a right at the gift shop and enter the African Desert Zone:
Shortly through here you may want to grab a bite to eat or use the facilities before proceeding on to look at the animals:
-
The first exhibit you will see contains the African Spurred Tortoises:
These creatures are becoming more and more common as household pets, unfortunately though few people understand the specific dietary requirements, and many underestimate the power they can exert if they want to get through a barrier!
-
Look! There are two now battling it out! The Tortoises also bash one another in this way as part of their courtship
(http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h75/alloy61/Heskethfightingtortoises.jpg)
-
Here we come to the Scimitar Horned Oryx and Dromedary Camels. Sadly this is a new breeding pair of Oryx, as our originals recently passed away. They bred successfully however and we released 2 offspring back into the wild.
Did you know? - The dromedary camel is capable of drinking 100 L (30 gal.) of water in just 10 minutes.
-
If you proceed down this path you will see the Fennec Foxes on your left
(http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h75/alloy61/HeskethDesertTunnel.jpg)
We have recently vastly reduced our numbers of these in the zoo, they were becoming very difficult to manage. 18 were passed out to other zoos for breeding purposes and 26 were released back into the wild. This still leaves us with 9 Fennec Foxes here.
The may be difficult to manage but one look into those big eyes and you could just melt:
-
To your right are the Striped Hyenas
(http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h75/alloy61/HeskethHyenaExhibit.jpg)
Unlike the Spotted Hyena, these animals are nocturnal, and typically live in much smaller groups that wander from water hole to water hole
(http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h75/alloy61/HeskethHyenaKopje.jpg)
-
And that takes us to the edge of the Desert Zone, here is a small map of the area we've explored so far:
Next time we shall explore the African animals that inhabit the Scrub biome:
Until then...
-
(....sits quietly in awe....)
Adam, they are fantastic pics! This zoo looks utterly magnificent. I love the way you show both pics to illustrate the zoo, and also animal behavior.
I would love to 'walk around' this zoo myself. Is there any chance of you submitting this zoo? :kitty:
-
Thanks:blushing:
I think I will submit the zoo, I just need to iron out a few problems with the zookeepers not doing their jobs properly ('so what else is new?' I hear you cry!)
I'm just glad the sky tram stopped resetting itself - oops, said too much:rolleyes:
-
*Waits for more* No, I did not know that. Can't wait for more.
-
Welcome to the Scrub section!
-
The first exhibit we can see here is for the Gerenuks - if you like you can proceed under the viewing canopy for a much closer look
(http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h75/alloy61/HeskethGerenukexhibit.jpg)
This is one of our most recent births - the fawn tries to stand on two legs from the age of two weeks, but usually takes around a month to get the hang of it.
-
Just across from the gift shop are the Caracals
(http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h75/alloy61/HeskethCaracalExhibit.jpg)
The solitary caracal pairs only when ready to breed. Typically they will give birth to a litter of two or three young. After two months, the kittens begin to eat solid food, but stay close to their mother’s side for another 10 months.
-
Now if you come back this way I'll take you to the next stop on the reccomended route - the Aarvarks, also known as the Antbear.
Blind and hairless at birth the young Aardvark is born in a maternity den where it stays alone, with the mother returning from time to time to nurse it. After two to three months the youngster may accompany the mother on her nightly forages and at six months old the youngster can dig for itself.
-
Good morning Adam! Wow, nice scrub pics. The gerenuk pic is so cute!: :) :
-
Now some of you may have seen the news articles about Terrance, the Terror of Hesketh Zoo?
This photo here shows an example of how to act with an escaped animal, and how not to act.
As you can see the little boy is running directly towards the animal, arms outstretched ready to hug the animal.
The man on the right is doing the correct thing, albeit a bit dramarically - stay well away from the meerkats, they may look small and cute, but they are wild animals.
In case you were wondering, Terrance has now been released into the wild
-
Well, now that's out of the way, here you can see Terrance's family and friends
(http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h75/alloy61/HeskethMeerkatExhibit.jpg)
Feels like you're being watched doesn't it?
-
Those of you who are just bursting at the seams can take a rest break here, and enjoy the calming effects of the fountain
(http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h75/alloy61/Heskethscrubfountain.jpg)
(Good Morning Rebecca! Glad you like the pics!)
-
And here we arrive at the last exhibit of the scrub section
(http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h75/alloy61/HeskethWhiteRhinoExhibit.jpg)
It is widely believed that the white rhino take their name from the Afrikaans word for wide-lipped. Due to the nuchal hump the white rhino is one of the few animals unable to swim.
-
Now if you proceed down this twisty path you will enter the Alpine Biome Section
(http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h75/alloy61/HeskethAlpineSection.jpg)
-
The diet of the Geladas depends on seasonal availability, but consists largely of grasses, with the blades, seeds and bulbs all being eaten. Grasses are picked by rapid, dextrous hand movements as the gelada sits and shuffles along the ground, but the species is also known to eat fruit, flowers, leaves, insects and even small mammals!
There are fewer than 500 of the Ethipian Wolf left in the wild, and there are no records of them ever having bred in captivity. Naturally we hope to amend this record!
-
Here is another bit of map for the Scrub and Alpine sections:
The next area is the forested section, just up this path here:
Until next time!
-
Alloy Ur zoos are the BEST!!!!! ive been following this thread forever and its never got old keep up the good work!!!
-
Thanks!
The Elevated path combined with our binoculars allows you to get a really close look at these animals - The Barbary Macacques, also known as the Barbary Ape.
The males within a troop protect all the offspring, even if it is not their own.
-
The next exhibit we come to is that of the Mountain Gorilla:
The gorilla is shy and retiring rather than ferocious and treacherous. It usually seeks no trouble unless harassed but will valiantly defend its family group if threatened.
-
If you look down here on your right you will see the Okapis
(http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h75/alloy61/HeskethOkapiExhibit.jpg)
In its native habitat the okapi is wary and elusive:its acute hearing provides early warning of danger, and its effective camouflage enables it to move about in the wild undetected by man. Most of our knowledge about the okapi has been learned by observing it in zoos.
-
Looking over to your left you can see the Pygmy Hippos
(http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h75/alloy61/HeskethPygmyHippoExhibit.jpg)
The Pygmy Hippopotamus toes are more widely spread and have little inter-digit webbing, giving pygmy hippopotamuses more secure footing on land. They are still very able swimmers though.
-
Here is one of our more popular exhibits - the Chimpanzees
(http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h75/alloy61/HeskethChimpanzeeExhibit.jpg)
Chimps sometimes chew leaves to make them absorbent and then use them as a sponge, dipping them in water and sucking out the moisture.
-
I here you can see the largest of the monkeys - the Mandrills
(http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h75/alloy61/HeskethMandrillExhibit.jpg)
Breeding these animals is important for the survival of the species, in the wild their numbers have been drastically cut due to hunting for their meat.
-
From the largest monkey to the largest forest antelope - the Bongo
(http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h75/alloy61/HeskethBongoExhibit.jpg)
Many of the African natives believe if they eat or touch bongo they will have spasms similar to epileptic seizures. Because of this superstition, bongos have been relatively unharmed in their native ranges.
-
And here we come to the final exhibit of the forest section - our Black Leopards
(http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h75/alloy61/HeskethBlackLeopardExhibit.jpg)
I imagine you will have noticed the cats newest toy, and I can assure you they love it!
-
That whole TRF is very well done! I like how the terrain under some paths is kinda hilly and I like the info/comments you give with the pictures! Can't wait for more
-
Now I imagine you must be hungry - we'll have a stop here where you can enjoy a wide variety of food and drink. You may want to let the kids loose on the play area as well...
I realise you all must be a bit tired from that walking now, so here's some good news. Our next section is entirely visible through the skytram, so you can relax and enjoy the ride.
-
Cheers Penguinman, glad you like it! : :) :
Here's the map of the rainforest section:
That's all for today, until next time!
-
Very nice work, Adam, as always. I love the leopard on the new cat climber. Btw, hope you're not missing the Dr on Saturday evenings too much.....: :( :
-
Amazing pictures!!
-
Thanks all!
I've got the long wait till christmas for the next Dr Who now:mellow: ...still gives me more time for these zoos!
Pictures will follow soon, been a bit of a hectic weekend so not got them yet :paperbag:
-
WOW,I cant believe I havent taken a good look at this topic, these zoos are Great!!!!:woot: I love your style when it comes to making zoos and how eaach zoo is completely different from any other:IloveZA:
-
Thanks World
Sorry it's been so long since the last update, real life warranted more attention for a bit
Welcome to the Wetlands Sky Tour! The first area you pass over belongs to the Nile Monitors:
The Adult Nile Monitors can easily outrun people over short distances, even over open ground and will usually head for water when pursued.
-
The next area we pass over is for the Nile Hippopotamus
(http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h75/alloy61/HeskethHippoExhibit.jpg)
Adult hippos can stay underwater for up to five minutes. Sleeping hippopotamuses can rise to the water's surface to breathe.
-
You may want to lift your legs up here if you're particularly tall, the sky tram gets awfully close to the water...
If baby crocodiles are in danger, the adult female may pick them up and flip them into her mouth or gular (throat) pouch for protection.
-
(http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h75/alloy61/HeskethWaterBuffaloExhibit.jpg)
The horns of the African buffalo are an excellent indication of age and gender. The females and young males do not have the hard shielding that protects the base of the skull in large adult males.
You are welcome to ride the sky tram tour back again, it runs back along the same path.
-
Hope you enjoyed that brief rest from walking!
If you head down this path you will find yourself back inside the scrub zone!
Our next area is one of the smaller sections - Our African Grassland Area.
-
Looking over this area here you can see the Secretary Birds:
The parents take turns incubating the egg while the other goes off to feed.
-
Here we come across the Ratel, also known as the Honey Badger:
In the wild the Ratel has got a very fascinating relationship with the Black-throated Honeyguide. These two animals help each other. When a honeyguide finds a bee-nest it makes a specific sound which attracts ratels in that area. Consequently, the ratel protected by its fur destroys the nest and feeds on honey and a honeyguide can easily enjoy eating the wax in the honeycomb.
(NB - for those having problems with neighbouring exhibits complaining of the smell, if you look above you will see the wall of trees, this is actually in a separated enclosure between the exhibits, and has stopped the secretary birds complaining of the smell. Alternatively you could use benches for zoo staff)
-
Time for the kids to use up the last of their energy on this playground, that is it for the walking now
(http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h75/alloy61/HeskethPark.jpg)
Here is another scrap of map for the area we just visited:
-
If you will walk this way you will find the means to an incredibly close view of the animals:
If you don't fancy getting that close, then you can use these binoculars:
But then what will you be looking at?
:badgnome: Until next time...
-
Good Zoo !
-
Wow, those pictures are wonderful!!
-
Very cool zoo!!I like how after you post a section of the zoo, youll post that usinng the map: :) :
-
Greatgreatgreatgreat job! Incredible zoos.
-
Very nice pics, Adam. I particularly like the secretary bird pics. This is always one of my favourite S&T threads!:original:
-
Thankyou very much all for the nice comments! :IloveZA:
The first animal on the jeep tour you see (conveniently blocking the path!) is the warthog - although they look fierce, the majority ofwarthogs would rather run than fight. However they can be fierce opponents if forced.
And here you can see the wildebeest - to groom itself, the wildebeest rubs its face either on the ground or against a tree or partner (in this case he seems to be using the jeep!)
-
Here's the overview of the exhibit:
I used the raised sections to hide the shelters from the guests view
Quick - someone get Derek Acorah!!
-
Here is a common guest favourite - the lions! Keep those windows wound up won't you?
Studies show that the majority of lion hunts fail - on average around 1 in 6 succeed. However studies also show the lion needs only 10-20 animals per year to keep going
(http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h75/alloy61/Heskethlionrock.jpg)
-
I'm sure you'll have seen their heads from the neighbouring exhibit - the graceful giraffe
(http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h75/alloy61/Heskethgiraffeexhibit.jpg)
We have 2 kinds of giraffe in here - the Masai and the Reticulated. Giraffes are often called the watchtowers of the Serengeti, keeping track of predators. They are also one of the few mammals able to see in colour.
-
(http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h75/alloy61/Heskethblackrhinoexhibit.jpg)
The horn is not a 'true' horn that is attached to the skull. It actually grows from the skin and is made up of keratin fibers, the same material found in hair and nails.
Herre you can see our most recent birth
(http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h75/alloy61/Heskethblackrhinobaby.jpg)
-
And that takes you to the end of this zoo, here is your final section of map:
If you piece them together they should look something like this - zoo map (http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h75/alloy61/HeskethZooMap.jpg)
I hope you enjoyed the zoo, I am now off to search for inspiration for the next one! If there is anything you would like to see then I am as always open to suggestions!
-
Wow. Great Zoo!!!! Good luck with finding the right inspiration for your next one!!
-
Those pictures are great!!!
-
Holy Moly! These are so cool!
-
where the heck have i been and how did i miss this topic 0.0
alloy, this stuff is amazing
This zoo is fantastic!
go alloy,go alloy!
-
wow! that's so :specool:
-
Phew did I let it get dusty in here....:whistling
Better late than never I suppose : :) :
Welcome to Skaro Zoo!
I've been experimenting a bit with mixed biome exhibits, trying to see what I can get to blend well - this exhibit is a bit poka-dotty but I like it : :P :
The secretary birds are happy in it, there are around 20 in here at the mo
(http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h75/alloy61/dwzsecretarybirds1.jpg)
If you look closely at the bird at the back, it looks like they've got two sets of wings!
-
 It does look like it has 2 sets of wings! Beautiful zoo and pics alloy!
-
Well, that's all the animals I've got pics of for this zoo,
Next time we have a choice of direction:
left to the swampland area
(http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h75/alloy61/dwzleft.jpg)
Or right to the desert area:
Hope you liked this little taster,
EDIT - thanks SageofWater!
-
Desert! Awesome zoo Alloy!
-
I love the mixed exhibit idea! Those birds look very happy!
-
swapland area and your zoo looks really cool
-
Nice job with the "safari tour" and specially with the mixed exibits!
-
Thanks all! Hmmm...1 vote for desert, 1 for swampland
I've got both sets of pics so let's toss a coin, heads desert, tails swampland...
Tails it is!
This first exhibit is a mixed one
(http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h75/alloy61/dwzhippoexhibit.jpg)
Perhaps not very original but Nile Hippos...
and Pygmy Hippos
-
Across from the hippos is a rare large cat - the Florida Panther
(http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h75/alloy61/dwspantherexhibit.jpg)
How about a few spot facts?
Florida panthers eat white tailed deer, wild hogs, rabbits, armadillo, and birds.
Breeding these animals is especially important, as there are believed to be between 30-50 panthers left in the wild.
-
Fancy a bite to eat, head on up to the Haunted Restaurant
(http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h75/alloy61/dwzrestaurantinthesky.jpg)
Don't fall over the side though, or you may be the bite :pinch:
Joining these crocs are the Nile Monitors, so far they haven't attacked each other (although one of the monitors did take exception to another monitor : :( : )
-
Your zoos look so much better then mine. :winner_fi
-
Here are the overhead shots of the exhibit:
and the next area to visit will be....Scrub!
Don't worry - we'll get around to the desert area once we're through the scrub (with a quick peep at another exhibit on the way :original: )
Until next time...: :) :
EDIT - thanks dogypig! :blushing:
-
Those are awesome Alloy! I love the pics of the croc and baby  But if you don't mind, I'll stay up above where I belong! LOL
-
Thanks Nique - that restaurant of yours looks good up there!
Unfortunately my guests seem to have been scared off the swampland and largely avoid the whole area (despite numerous complaints of wanting a place to sit and eat lol)
-
Awesome zoos as always. You make me jealous, lol. Can't wait to see what's up next!
-
Thanks Nique - that restaurant of yours looks good up there!
Unfortunately my guests seem to have been scared off the swampland and largely avoid the whole area (despite numerous complaints of wanting a place to sit and eat lol)
 I guess your wetlands area is too realistic for the guests to handle.
-
Thanks all!
Into the scrub area we head...
Isn't it nice to get together and have a chat now and again?
-
Just across from the white rhino is a veritable mixture:
Inside we have Gemsbok and Gerenuk, though they don't seem to like hanging out with eachother
(http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h75/alloy61/dwzgemsbokgerenuk.jpg)
The aardvarks's however, seem quite happy to sleep anywhere...
-
And that was the scrub section, short and sweet!
On the way across to the desert area you come across these magnificent beasts:
Scientists are actually know trying to get a 'chemical fingerprint' of the rhino horn as a step towards eradicating poaching - in other words if they find a horn on the black market they could figure out where it came from...
-
That will be all for today, next time we enter the desert...
Until then... : :) :
-
Wow! Your zoos look really great! I liked the idea of the restaurant on an elevated path! Great job! : :) : :clapping:
-
Thanks Kiwibuddy : :) :
As promised we now enter the desert:
I was so glad when I found out that Ostriches were compatible with desert, though I've yet to see one bury it's head in the sand lol
(http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h75/alloy61/dwzcamelostrich.jpg)
-
Moving on from the camels and ostriches, as you can see these spurred tortoises are thriving, when these young hatch I'll probably have to adopt some of them out to stop overcrowding...
Separated from the tortoises by a large cliff is...
The Fennec Foxes! Cute as ever, I couldn't resist this family photo
(http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h75/alloy61/dwzfennecs.jpg)
-
aww they are so cute  I love the zoo Alloy! the ostriches actually look sort of cute in with the camels lol
-
The next exhibit we come onto is a desert oasis
(http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h75/alloy61/dwzaddaxoryxexhibit.jpg)
The Addax and the Oryx get on famously, these two even appear to be sharing a moment
EDIT - thanks Budgie!
-
On to the last exhibit of today...
Hyenas!
And so ends the desert section, final pics of this zoo will be up next time..
Until then...:original:
-
that zoo looks amazing do you plan to submit it up for download?
-
Aw, that's a cute oryx/addax pic.
-
Awesome Alloy! I love the Oryx/Addax exhibit. They look very happy. Keep up the good work.
-
WOW! Your zoo is fantastic Alloy!
I agree with Flames, may you please put this zoo up for download?
-
Nice! The Addax and Oryx even look abit like eachother!
-
Your pictures look wonderful!
-
Lovely pics alloy. The one of the addax and the oryx is really cute.
-
:surprise: I am still amazed! Can't wait for more!
-
Awesome! Wouldn't it be great if the Antelopes and Oryx and that could cross breed?
-
Gorgeous pictures as always, alloy! I love the addax/oryx pic - very sweet!
-
Thankyou all! : :) :
do you plan to submit it up for download?
If you like I can put this zoo up for download
You may want to see the rest of it first though... : :P :
Onto the last two exhibits!
The first is a large cheetah enclosure
(http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h75/alloy61/dwzcheetahexhibit.jpg)
At first you only see them in the distance, only to have one creep out of the bushes in front of you...
-
In the words of Rolf Harris, "Can you see what it is yet?" :loony:
The Galapagos Tortoises do enjoy getting a tan...
And here's the overhead without the elevated paths:
-
And of course we have the map, if you didn't realise how much of a nut I am, you should do within a few moments...:whistling - Skaro Zoo Map (http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h75/alloy61/dwzmapcomplete.jpg)
Still can't see it? - this one (http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h75/alloy61/dwzmapnoanimalsbuildings.jpg) offers a clearer picture
Until next time...:mwahaha:
-
LOL love the Darlek your maps are so creative.
Would love to know if the chicken comes before the egg or visa versa lol
-
That truly turned out brilliant! Nice job! You really are the master of zoo maps! :yesmaster
-
Great pics Alloy! Very creative exhibits!
-
Wow thats brilliant!!! lol.
You are so creative with your zoos!
-
EXTERMINATE! LOL! :woot:
Lovely zoo! :bounce:
-
Unlocked at request, can't wait to see what you'll build next!
-
cool thanks budgie :)
There will be a theme to the next zoo too mwahaha
-
Alloy61, your zoos are AMAZING! I'm trying to think of something bad to say about them, but I can't find it! Your zoos are fantastic. Wait, no, fabulous. Hold on, they're better than that... they're FANTABULOUS! I don't like doctor who, but that map made me chuckle. I'm like "Arrrgh! A dalek's attacking skaro zoo... RUN!" :slol: Do you mind if I 'borrow' that idea?
-
Borrow away lol
Incidentally, Skaro is the name of the Dalek's home planet lol - see the clue was there all along hehe
-
Wonderful pictures and zoo design Alloy. I especially like the tortoise getting a tan!
-
the gibbons have long legs :eggblink :eggblink
-
this zoo is looking really good!
a tip for mixed biome exhibits--after you place trees/shrubs of a different biome, go back and paint more of the ground biome (not the level where there's shrubs, but like grass or something). This lets you keep the trees but gets rid of the polka dots.
can't wait for more
-
ah but the polka dots were on purpose lol - they were to add to the overall effect of the dalek
I even put fences round them before hand to make sure they were all the same shape :P
