Ati Rage 128 Pro
« on: October 25, 2005, 03:40:13 PM »
Ok well...I just got the expansion and much to my despair, my graphics card isn't compatible. It's an ATI Rage 128 Pro.  Now I'm not all that computer intelligent... but... :sick can anyone more intelligent than I let me know what to do  :lol Weird thing is, ZT2 worked just fine but now the expansion won't. I'm about to  :( right now..I was looking so forward to it. What should I update to, and how much would this cost...?

You might have to just upgrade your drivers.

I got a weird message after installing the ES (and playing it once, wihch was weird) saying something about my graphics card and suggested upgrading the drivers. Doing a google search for "Ati Rage Pro" yielded this site:Ati.com which I imagine is the home site of ATI.

If you go to the Drivers and Software tab you can find driver updates by OS. Try doing that and see what the game says.

If not... well graphics cards can get pricey...and if your current card is integrated into the motherboard(like mine), I believe it's very difficult to upgrage, and expensive, if it's possible at all.  Zoohio really seems to know what he's talking about in such matters...he might have something more to impart.

Also: my game was much faster w/out the ES. And I know its related to the graphics card. Go figure  :rolleyes

Hi there Honor-

Thanks much for you help. The pop-up does not tell me to update my drivers, and it won't even open the game for that matter. It just closes off and alerts me that message. I will try updating after I finished downloading all my computer updates (Just reformatted last night..ugh) and see if that works. If not  :( ! Maybe Zoohio will have some words of advice as well. Thanks!

As for price:
What exactly happend; i.e did you get a pop-up that pervented you from playing at all, I did when I got ZT2, and I had to get a new graphics card. $70, but it was  amazing when it came out, now it's old and there are ones a lot better.
Also:
try and install the demo and see if that works. If it doesn't, then you can be pretty sure it's not competible at all, seeming as the demo is a lot less......how do I put this.....powerful than the xp.

Hi Tigertess-

The original ZT2 worked just fine. When I installed ES I got a pop up that prevented me from playing the game at all. It said - ZT2 Is unable to support ATI Rage 128 Pro..etc

I also went to the ATI website and downloaded something for my card, but it says it's not compatible. How I wish I was computer literate  :mellow

Bengal, I find that completely odd! The game does not call for a specific graphics card. Just a basic video card. And I have not read anything regarding ATI verses NiViDia.
You may try reinstalling the game, but as I said previously, that is really odd.

Thanks Zoohio. I've uninstalled and reinstalled several times now, but I guess a few more times can't hurt.  :lol If you would like the website is http://www.ati.com ..maybe that could let you know what it is.

Ah..mine's included in that list then. Okay, so how would I go about fixing this problem? Do I have to buy a whole new graphics card?

I think you do.  :(
However, there are some cheap graphics cards out there. NVIDA is pretty popular on XP computers and to buy one of the old ones is, as I mentioned, about $70 then.....probably much less now. If there are any in your area then try Fry's Electronics. That may just be in Los Angeles but I'm not sure.  :crazy Just be careful what you buy. I remember the chaos when ZT2 came out...people where having to buy about three graphics cards before they could load the game. But just follow zoohio's list and the system requirements carefully, and you should be able to find a cheap, working graphics card. Watch out for sales on graphics cards too.
Hope this helps and that you get the XP working.

A note, and if you happen to get NVIDIA, downloading the latest drivers (get help from someone good with computers if you aren't experienced with this) should help game play if you find many glitches in the game. Only if you buy NVIDIA, of course, but I recommend it. PM me if you need any more help with where to buy graphics cards. And I hope you get it working soon.

Are there any graphics cards that aren't compatible with a Dell? Just wondering, it may be a stupid question on my part  :blush

Dell....ah.
Well, I personaly doubt there are any, and if so, it should say on the box. Or the installation screen. Just in case, try to get one with an option to return it.

just check what socket you have (pci, agp, pci-e) and buy accordingly.

should be properties-settings. Then the advanced buttons, on the tabs at the top you should find adapter.

I found one called Diamond Stealth 128 MB Radeon 9250. It is made by ATI but I didn't see it on the list anywhere. Do you think it would work?

Like I was saying to you via PM, it might be a good idea to contact Scott.  if you were will willing to wait, you could E-mail him on the card's stats and I'm sure he'd get back to you. ;) But if the store will let you return the card, then you should try it.
