Are You Just Boring Or Strange, Personally, Quite recently I have been forgetting to name my animals, But when im really bored or makin a zoo for somebody (then saving and them downloading) I liek to make names up, Let your imagination go. I always seem to call a Chimpanzee "Pogo" and Tiger "Tiber" xD Anyway, I Suppose this could be a poll, but ive gone to far now. Sorry If this is in the wrong place Mod's/Staff, I looked for places too place this topic, and this "seemed" suitable.
-
I never name my animals. I'm too lazy. They die too fast.
-
Your Nice arnt you. lol. "They Die To Fast", Well they most die fats if u carry on playign the game, your choice anyway, Lazy Person! xP
-
I did name a few of my animals once but usually I don't. I wish the months didn't go by so fast as they do on the game its like wow really where did the time go lol. :P
Mitzi
-
I usually name my one of my Zebras or Tigers"Spot" and one of my Cheetah's or Jaguar "Stripes" :lol
-
WolfX; Thats Just So Anti-original. I like it :D It's liek callina dog "tigger" and yes i have seen it before :|
-
Wow, I never name my animals................
-
i've tryed naming animals but they always are so dumb like wierd made up one or calling a gemsbok one horn even thought their all the same
-
I usually just name then when I'm doing a small zoo or something, or when I get bored at the end of a scenario. And I'm no good at thinking of good names, they are usually animal tv characters. (lions-simba, nala, etc.) :blush
When you start to make really large zoos its hard to keep track of, especially when the animals start to breed really quickly. (When you have a zoo with like 30 exhibits and over 100 animals, then you get a message that says "Tina has given birth" it gets really confusing and for me, often out of control.)
-
I always name my animals!
-
I usually name my Lions stuff like Lion 1, Lion 2, Lion 3... gives it a more... hmm... heartwarming feeling... ;) lol
-
I dont name animals on ZT1 but i often do on ZT2 i try to give them names of real animals eg churhill the giraffe.
-
I name them if its only a few animals or if I really like certain animal :D
-
Same by me (Unless I have one in mind).
-
I always name my:
bengal tige - Tony
White bengal tige - (female) Nina
Lion - Sindbad
and similiar cool :cool names...
-
we really need a forum for things related to both zt/zt2 general discussion, as this would be better off in there
-
Mine are named like after TV shows and their characters, like if a person is an "butt", you name the donkey after them. Or like video games, like Yuna, Paine, Rikku, Rinoa, Fayte, uhhhh, Halo (woo hoo), and a lot more.

Great idea... I thought you wer a mod, not an Admin.
nope im an admin thats why it says admin under my name :rofl
-
I always get my old school pictures. Its easier to name them.
-
I like to think up weird names is foreign languages, like Anadora, from 'Nas que anadora!' which looks remotely :rofl like the chorus of a Russian song. I'm creative with names.
I'm creative with females at least-:sweat not males. :sweat I use this system: (this may help mo ;) )
Anadora Zebra 1
Jack Tiger 4
And so on. Easily controls population. And if they are names that could be male or female (i.e Kendall) than just go on what the message says; you wouldn't have a male giving birth would you? :erm So that works.
-
i just name them normal names, like jake, jack, molly
-
I only name them if they're a solitary animal, or one that doesn't like to breed. Trust me, naming all the animals in an exhibit full of Thompson's Gazelles and zebras is a PAIN.
I only give names to things like Great White Sharks, or Tyrannosaurus Rexes, or Loch Ness Monsters, or something.
Yes, I have Complete Collection. And it has Nessie. I pwn you!
-
I usually have soooo many animals in my zoo that I rarely name them. I DO however name staff and maintenance workers, and sometimes exhibits something besides "Tigers" ;) I'll name my croc keeper "Steve Irwin", my great white shark tank "JAWS!", my first maintenance man is usually "Grunt", and the tour guides I tend to name after TV characters ;)
-
I usually don't name my animals, though when I'm bored I name all the animals of a particular species, usually Elephants, Tigers, Walruses or anteaters.
Sometimes I just give them silly names like "Billy Bob" or "Mary Sue", but usually I name them after music stars, my friends, gods of different mythologies (yes, there WAS Odin the Panda, Leminkainen the Fallow Deer and Apollo the Emu), famous politicians ("Mr W. Bush you sure are a pig!") or famous philosophers ("Now Aristotle, you be nice and procreate or I'll trhow you to the Wittgenstein exhibit!").
Ovearll sometimes my mind is plain old twisted.
-
Geek post ahead.
I feel so unhappy when my animals' names are so average, like Ivory or Ebony, and not all exotic and stuff. So I made up a nifty system [Okay I have a lot of time on my hands and I am a nerd now stop making fun of me oh noes :>< ].
First letter of a name
X - Powerful (An animal with a strength 15 or more, such as a Hippo)
Y - Graceful/ Pretty (Such as a zebra, I find them cute :happy )
Z - Large (Like an elephant)
Q - Strange-looking (Such as a Camel)
J - Small (African Warthog)
Last letter of a name
Vowel - Female
Consanant - Male
Syllables
1-2: Birthed in the zoo
3-4: Purchased
Stop making fun of me for being a geek! It's really fuuuun :D :D
-
i used to but now i just name my exbits
-
I used to name all my zt1 animals, If they were asian elephants their names would all start with A : Anita, Alice, Annie, Amber, Alistair..... If they were manatees : Melissa, mandy, Mongo, Mitzi... I still name some ZT2 animals, but not always.
P.S. - You have NO excuse for not naming dinos, they live a looooong time !!!!
-
I've discovered with ESP, that it's VERY helpful to name the females according to mates. Example, I have two female lions named Lion 2, mate 1 and Lion 3, mate 5. With ESP, this is VERY helpful in not releasing someone's mate, which makes them very unhappy, especially when you're trying to breed. Also, it's quick to do.
When it's a long named animal, like the Scimitar Horned Oryx, I just call them S. Horned Oryx 2, mate 3, or with the chimpanzees, call them Chimp 3, mate 4, and so on... I find it helpful in keeping 'pairs' together. ;)
-
I still name my animals. I name The keepers/scientists/Marine specialists first. Then the exhibits. Usually after exhibits in zoos, wild life parks or from seaworld. Then i name animals. I name my keepers after Japanese rock band members for some reson. And the animals i usually just name randomly. and always with the same alphabetical letter beginning. it helps me keep track of births becaus ein large zoos i don't always see the message saying someone has given birth.
I also put baby aniamsl in a nursery section of my zoo.
-
I rarely ever name animals, as Wooly Rhino said, they die too quick. :rofl
-
I name my animals and and I tell you the origin:
Warthog - Piggy Origin:Pig Pack (http://zoo.ogresnet.com/downloads/db/index.php?mod=2387)
Polar Bear or Artic Wolf - White (Male) Cotton Candy (Female) Origin: Both are white.
Lion - King Origin: Lion King (Disney Cartoon)
-
I used to name my animals, but then my zoo got so big, I couldn't be wasting my time naming the new baby lions (of which there were, like, billions).
Small zoos, sure, but I really can't stand small zoos.
-
If I name anything, it'll be marine show animals - every time I have a show (dolphins or orca, I don't use the sharks or sealions/otters) I always give the performers names, and if they breed I name the offspring.
Dinosaurs (T-rex, apatosaurus etc.) and whales (humpback, bowhead etc.) I often name too, mostly because they live a long time and I usually only have a few of them (the fact they breed fairly slowly helps).
-
I used to name my animals, but like Tailchaser said many of the animals breed WAY to quickly to keep track of and I usually end up adopting them out or releasing them to the wild anyway.
-
I sometimes name my favorite types of animals, other then that, no, I don't name them.
-

I'm still going with that.
-
I name my Apatos and Whales. Othjer than that...
-
I usually name my animals. I name them after whatever that comes up in my mind that will fit or I name them after a word in the language of the area they came from.
-
I never name thing because of life spans.
-
I name my animals this way:
first letter of the species name = first letter, and last letter ditto.
So a Bengal tiger i name Boer or Bamboozler or bifger or sumthin, really, its fun making up names! :lol
As for exhibits, i use species names or if I know, latin names. So my bengal tiger exhibit could
be Bengal Tiger or Panthera tigris B. (Bengalensis is too long)
My zoo keepers are always BTigerKeeper, AsElephantKeeper, SerowKeeper etc.
My tour guides are always Pokemon, and my mt. workers are always Comic characters, ususally foxtrot.
Yea, in all I'm a nerd :P :><
-
Your not a nerd, Your just experimental. I haven't played Zt in ages...
-
We miss your zoos.
I named an exhibit full of zebras and they all died in less than a year. >.<
-
In ZT1 I never named my animals because, as has been said, they died too fast. In ZT2, I only name certain individuals of certain animals of which I am very fond. The rest I name "Species Lord/Lady", according to gender. It's quite helpful for seeing the gender ratios at a glance. When one of those favorites comes along, I call it "Caribou Lady "Meeya"" to designate the name. I used to use "Male/Female" instead of "Lord/Lady" but L/L have the same number of letters, which is nice for unity. -nods-
-
I ALWAYS name my animals. I name them something unique every time. Does anybody else name your zookeepers, Matience Workers, and Tour guides. I do! Usually I stick to a rule such as: all zookeepers must have a name ending in the sound -ry.
I think naming your animals and workers makes it feel much more like a real zoo. Think about it: you are at a zoo, and you look into the zebra cage, and you say "Wow! Zebra 2 looks happy!" REAL ZOO'S NAME THEIR ANIMALS PEOPLE! THEY ARE NOT NUMBERS! hehe :lol
-
i love to name my animals but always have a pattern like the first boy is jim first girl ann and so on :crazy :huh :lol :D
-
Think about it: you are at a zoo, and you look into the zebra cage, and you say "Wow! Zebra 2 looks happy!"
xD Now I'm going to name my Zebras "That Zebra" and "That Zebra Over There" and so on. "Look, That Zebra is grooming That Other Zebra!""
-
xD Now I'm going to name my Zebras "That Zebra" and "That Zebra Over There" and so on. "Look, That Zebra is grooming That Other Zebra!""
Lmao. I like it! Salt Water Croc's - "Oh Oh", "Oh No", "Oh My", "Ouch" ;)
-
One time, I named my markhors strange names too. They were: "That goat thing" , "The funny looking horned animal", and "That funny looking goat-like animal over there".
-
I never name my animals because I forget who's who and then when it says 'whoever needs more space' I have no idea what animal it is.
-
I hardly ever name my ungulates, but I name alot of the others, unless there's a large herd of them.
-
I never name my animals because I forget who's who and then when it says 'whoever needs more space' I have no idea what animal it is.
I see your point, and im not argueing that your wrong. But you could easily click the message box at the top and it will take you right to that animal/staff etc. Or pause game if alot is happening. I tend not to name my animals anymore, More so when i was new to ZT, as its a option, so why not. My best friend does it, shes new to Zoo Tycoon, All to the thanks of me :)
-
Well, I'm another one that always names the animals in my Zoos! (ZT1, as I do not play ZT2)
I do it for several reasons:
1- "Real" Zoos don't call there animals "Zebra 1"
2- The default names are soooo impersonal
3- I find it makes playing (for me) alot more fun!
Personally, I have never found it hard to tell who's who as the "secret" lies in developing your own "code names" for the various animals (pretty easy to do, IMO) in your Zoos. (Kong & Koko are my Lowland Gorillas, Black Bart & Black Bertha are my Black Bears, Paul & Pauline are Polar Bears, Zack & Zelda are Zebras, Snarl & Snarlet are Snow Leopoards....etc, etc...) They may not "make sense" to anyone else, but "anyone else" isn't playing my Zoos!: :P :
As to the "early death" thing (in ZT1), this is easy to deal with (if you want to). Penguinto (?) has an Animal Imortality Hack for those uncomfortable with opening AI files, while the more adventerous players (like me) can easy change the cDeathChance line to equell 0.....*poof* no more constantly-dropping-off animals! (I have never understood why the "default" life spans were set soooo sort in the first place! Most real Zoo animals live to a ripe old age! They don't just automatically kick the bucket at age 3!)
Just wanted to hop on the old bandwagon and toss in my 2 cents!

Naming your animals is always good. It's really fun to think them up.

I'm weird I guess, I name almost all of my animals... wait. All my second-generation animals, and third, ect. Also, I name any first-gen animals that have unique variant skins.
Some examples...
Eren and Inami: a couple of female brown girraffes (sp?)
Zenith Rising: a male black bengal tiger
Adaia and Mrenen: a pair of Norwegian Fjord ponies, the only two in the herd of twenty that had the regular skin.
Barkstripe: a male scimitar-horned oryx who had much more brown in his coat than most s. horned oryx do.
Then, of course, there are the really random names I come up with when I can't think of anything...
Such as Daemon, Daelira, Duran and Damas for a bunch of second-generation Dama gazelles.
Occasionally I'll even name my critters after video game characters/movies stars, ect. I had a male fantasy wolf named Yoda, as well as a secratary bird named Kerrigan and a male fennec fox named Baal. (Names from Star Wars, StarCraft and Diablo II respectively)
-
I usually name my animals, but if my zoo gets too big in sandbox mode; I can't remember what kind of animal they are sometimes...
-
I usually don't name them when I first start out ,but later I will add names when I'm bored.
-
Reminder that this is a ZT1 Thread
What's funny is that I almost always named my animals in ZT1, utilizing generally the first letter of the type of animal to generate names. Sometimes you have to start getting creative if you have prolific breeders. For me, Lions were - I never knew how many names I could create starting with "L" haha.
In ZT2 I haven't really named a lot of animals yet, and I'm not quite sure why. I have a few times for special occassions, or if I'm looking out for a specific animal for some reason, but other than that, nope.
-
I once attempted to name every animal born in my zoo. I had decided to give every newborn a name that started with the same letter depending on the year they were born. So year one births started with A and so forth.
Which was fine until about year four when I ran out of names starting with D for all my African warthogs... :loony:
-
I usualy only name animals that i intend on keeping, especialy with animals that have lots of offspring like lions.
-
I used to name every single one of my animals with alliterative names, like probably everyone else. Now, I kind of stopped naming them. But, I keep getting confused at which animal is which number, and which number is sick, hungry, etc. so I'm starting (very slowly) to name them all again.
-
I always give my Loch Ness Monsters a really original name like: NESSIE! : :P :
-
I always name them as well. I have a whole list of names I like to use. I like the names Gianluca, Garwein, and Minerva.
Also, here are the African names for some animals. I lke to use them too. They really seem to "fit". I really like the African name for elephant. :original:
RHINO- Kifaro
CHEETAH- Duma
ZEBRA- Punda Milia
ELEPHANT- Tembo
-
I ALWAYS name my animals!
And I get all attached to some of them, too. XD
To make the game more interesting, I make little monarchys with the animals, and see how long the bloodline can go without it dying out. Like my first monarchy: lions with Egyptian names. I would put a single male in an exhibit (so I know who the father of any cubs are) with a bunch of females, and would mix him up with other exhibits and breed him as much as possible, if I like him.
I also got around to recording the family tree of those lions, to keep track of who is who. Before I deleted that zoo, I had 16 years worth of lions, and three whole pages of the family tree! :P
-
I have a couple names I always use,
Lion Male: Monstro
Lion Female: Quenn (I was trying to spell queen but I mispelled it and I have used it ever since.)
I usually name my peafowl after Mario characters like Peach, Bowser, etc.
Tiger Female: Sarabii
Giant Pandas: Some Chinese sounding name like Han-Cho or something like that...
-
Like HAL9000, I use the same names alot, too. I always name my Komodo Dragons Nezbit (male) and Jessie (female, after my old bearded dragon). I also name my Secretary Birds Bolt (male) and Feather (female). The lynxes are Amie (female) and Robert (male). The lynxes got their names because I was watching "Everybody Loves Raymond" at that very moment. XD
-
I always name the first male and female I buy, and their first baby. After that it just gets to confusing.
-
I name my staff: so that I can keep track of which keeper belongs to which exhibit: silly stuff like Leo takes care of the Lions, etc. but I don't name the animals unless it's a specialty thing like a show Orca named Shamu.
And I don't really think this is a "lazy" response, due to the fact that some of the animals reproduce so fast (lions).
-
Yeah, that's kinda what I do Nightowl. Some animals you'd spend forever just trying to keep track of naming them if you tried!
-
I get all of my names from a phone book  Its funny cause sometimes i name them some of the craziest names.
-
um in zt1 i dont usaly name my animals but sometimes in other games i can think of rreeeaaalllyyy crazy and/or weird names like: sonora ,oblivion, frutey(lol), and some other stuff too  : :) :
-
I name my ZT2 animals, but not ZT1. All the animals breed like crazy. But, back on topic. I usually I give my wolves fancy names, like Talia, Kiche(from White Fang), Etoil if its a black one, Luna if its a white one, Milo(after my cat), Ezmerelda, Sequoia, Mianno or Moon Demon. I'm too lazy to give my camels good names. I once named a camle Dro. . Most of my animals are named after movie animals or book characters. After a while it gets sorta hard to name fenneces after Egyptian gods(Anubis,Seth, etc.). I try to name all my carnatorurs with a C, but that also gets hard after a while. Most of the time I give my animals aliteration names (Pete if it's a peafowl, Jill if it's a jaguar, etc.) I do name my guests if I'm mad at them or bored. One time I had this really angry guy named Anibal Ting, and I re-named him Canibal Thing! Ha! I named a kid Bart Simpson just for the heck off it! I named all my geusts after movie stars or cartoon characters once. I was bored and it was a small zoo. I also named a guy Bud Ugly!(Sorry about that one, Mods).
-
I name all my animals because i think its more realistic.
-
I never name mine, Im bad at coming up with names so i just leave them Zebra 1, etc lol
-
Jessyb I think your right it's hard to come up with names.
-
Jessyb I think your right it's hard to come up with names.
Especially when they keep breeding and giving birth(like the lions) and you cant think of any names for them...
-
right:wink:  :Bear3:
-
I usually name my Lions stuff like Lion 1, Lion 2, Lion 3... gives it a more... hmm... heartwarming feeling... ;) lol
Wow great minds think alike. :innocent: I've only named my animals for contest zoos. i've always got tons of zoos going along at the same time and it would be too exhausting to name all of the animals and keep track of them. Besides it is tougher to sell off a named animal than one with a generic name. : :( :
-
I like name some of mine. :loony:
-
I only name ....the crocodiles.
-
I only name my animals for the name cheats. I'm too la-z to name them.
-
I always name my animals. Hera es some of the names I use:
Minerva / Horemheb
Siamans / Amun
Nena / Scipio
GianLuca / Grella
Calogero / Silvermoon
Genova / Halahard
Maugrimm ( for wolves only )
Isegrimm ( for wolves only )... it is a German wolf character in sories
Ramses / Mordred
Sethos / Estelle
Setaou / Rene ( male or female )
Lotos / Bane
Anubis / Miroslav
EDIT: the names were spaced apart, but the post put them together... so now there is only a 'slash mark' between the names.
-
I wait untill the entire zoo is finished (or most of it is) then I name everything. I keep members of the same species with the same first initial so that they're easier to look up in the lists gazelles=G etc. It's simple but it works : :P : .
-
in zt1 i only named showanimals and dinos and whales
in zt2 i name all my big animals and show animals and dinos and whale and sharks
-
Why like don't you guys give your animals names?!? I'ts like sooooooooooo natural. And for some stupid reason in my game when i don't name my animals the get all ticked and my guests are like what the heck. Come on, the geusts should careless about animals being angry. I mean when you go to a zoo, do you go, "mommy, mommy, that Lion is mad!"? I doubt that. I always name my animals. Even if i give them a cruddy name like draggy or stinky at least they have a name. cause in real life all animals in zoos have names, right? at least they do in the bronx zoo.
and what was that guy talkin about, how he never names his animals unless he has a cheat?!!!! cheats make games stink these days!
Kid234455667
-
I sometimes name my animals (if I can be bothered). Their names usually go by where they come from, eg lions have African names etc. That way it seems more real as I have seen in most real life zoos that their animals are named after where they came from.
-
I always name my animals. Shops too. And the occasional tank filter... :eggwhistle:
-
My favorite names for animals:
Mola mola (Ocean Sunfish):Mojo
Ostrich: Ozzy
Penguins: Chilly Billy, Willy, Millie, Tillie, and Jillie :pman:
Thompson's Gazelles: Tommy,Tammy, and Timmy
Bald Eagles: Lady liberty and Washington
-
I always name my animals. Shops too. And the occasional tank filter... :eggwhistle:
I always name my restaraunts...Take the names from real life restaraunts in zoos.
-
I only name the animals I like xD
I'm in Year 5 in one Zoo and have 50+ wolves. From 4 'foundation' wolves that are still alive. Blue (who breeds a lot), Cole (she must've bred but not as much as Blue), Fenris & Lobo.
And I called the White Bengal Tigers Quent & Ruth. But then they died so I now have Lyra & Will.
And my Polar Bears are called Iorek and Stelmaria. zomg they breed like crazy! I saw 'Polar Bear 4 has given birth' and was like WHAT?? I only adopted two!!
(lol, try and figure out where the anmes are from xP i'm so unoriginal)
-
If I do name my animals there normal just at random ( eg. friends, peepz at school, " off the top of your head, tv shows ect; )... Easy Pesy :eggtung
-
moose: Stone & Martha
tigers: tony & whatever name i feel like at the time
sometimes i name them after my friends. if one of my friends has a crush on another person, ill make them a couple so they can have bebes! nyuk nyuk...
-
All the staff at my zoos get given names of my friends...except for the maintenance workers, who get the names of people I don't like! :egggrin
-
I don't really name ZT1 animals. But I remember when I first played the game, I named my animals cheesy/corny stuff like, Zebra=Stripes, Gazelle=Hooves.
I also recall a time when I was playing the third scenario and I got really bored and named EVERYTHING in my zoo the most random stuff. Some examples would be naming a rhinoceros exhibit, Must not be smashed!, then I named the rhino in the exhibit, Must smash fence! I also named a grizzly bear, Grizzles Wizzles and a clouded leopard, Please eat my fleas.
