I'm having problems with my guests getting upset. They are angry because they need a place to rest, but even with tons of benches and gazebos around them, they still have this problem. This has happened in 2 different zoos now. Any suggestions?

TIA!

Jen

Is this in ES or ZT2 without ES because you might need the patch.
Or the bench might be to near to another object. :8

Are you sure the staff members (Zoo Keepers, Educators, Maintnece Workers) aren't hogging all the benches? If you notice this, you should try and buy a Staff Center if it's available.

I don't know what "ES" is. I have the game for the PC. As for the staff members, they are not taking all the benches. And if they do use them, they use the ones way off in the distance. I am playing a free form game right now. It seems like I had this problem years ago when I would play Zoo Tycoon 1. I do have a staff center also. I mean, there will be 5 or 6 empty benches right in front of these angry people.  It seems to be the worst in the congested areas - mostly close to the entrance of the zoo. I have really wide paths close to the entrance, but the visitors choose to walk all bunched up - like a row of ants.

ES is a Expansion Pack for ZT2
Well maybe the benches are in the middle of the "traffic" and can't be accesed. :erm

I've thought about placing them directly in front of the stinking people. I've tried to manually move people to a less crowded area one by one and that helped for about 5 minutes.

I rarely put benches at all. I just use the gazebos - more guests can fit in them. Also, do you have tables near your food stalls? Also, try putting in at least one restaurant across the zoo from the entrance. That way tired/hungry guests can rest on the other side of the zoo. This satisfies their rest AND their hunger/thirst needs. But don't forget to put a bathroom right beside it. They always want to use it after eating (apparenlty these restaurants aren't prepared with indoor plumbing!) :lol

And remember, the guest have to be within a few squares of something before they 'see' it.

Do you think I need the ES?

Yeah csleesburg, I've tried that too in my first zoo. I have restuarants, picnic tables, drink and food stands, benches, and gazebos all quite near the problem areas. I am careful to place them in an accessible way so I really can't see the problem here.

Do you have the guest pack downloaded?  The drinking fountain causes a lot of problems and guests get stuck at it and get tired.  Its best not to have drinking fountains in your zoo.

No I don't have anything downloaded, yet. I just got this game for Christmas. I had only a couple of drinking fountains, but guests started complaining alot about being thirsty and they weren't going to the drink stands so I put in alot of drinking fountains. AND they still complain! I'm starting to think I got a lemon game...

Delete all of the drinking fountains. They cause something in the game where guests stay there and won't do anything. That's your problem right now. Your game has nothing wrong with it.

Yes, Lemur Girl is right. The guests will all get in line for the fountain, and the line often extends VERY far, so this would explain your "row of ants".

I tried the drinking fountains too. What a mistake! The AI is apparantly broken for those things and they get stuck there.

Try a little variety in your vending, too. When my guests start complaining of thirst I put up bottled water and coffee stands. Don't forget to put in a recycling bin for the discarded water bottles. The same goes for food. When guests start complaining of hunger, put in some high-end vending, like the sub sandwich and salad booths.

You mentioned that this happened in congested areas -- a good way to relieve congestion is to put popular exhibits at intervals with restaurants between them, so guests keep walking instead of staying in one place where all their needs are met.

Often I'll find it only takes a few upset guests to start giving you messages about needs, even if most of the guests in the park are happy.

When checking the fame rating the guest happiness is often full when I get complaints of 'place more dessert carts' and the like.

Using the quick list button will allow you to see which guests are complaining and clicking on the guest will show you where they are.
After doing this I just put whatever they're moaning about in this area and it usually cuts out most of the red guest messages.

I keep reading all the troubles with the drinking fountains... yet, I've never had a problem with them.  I guess the only thing I've noticed is that my guests are cheap and will drink from the fountain instead of buying water from a stand!   :angry

Hey i've learned a great trick i'm at a 4 star zoo and so far not one of my guests have gottin to the red point on whatever they need.  Just use and abuse thetab that shows all your guests and their current needs. Use the filter and go through and find the ones that have the highest problem click on the guest in that windows and use the pick up option when it brings up that guest and move him or her where they need the most attention. (expample- if their high need is the restroom. use the filters under zoo stats and find your guest then drag them to the nearest bathroom.) keep a eye on him for a few seconds to make sure  he gos. If something else interests him click him again and put himby the bathroom again. So far I haven't had any trouble with a four star zoo. I only have like 5  exhibits with the 1200 dollar animals, and i've already hit the 4 star option. :D

It might get more complicated to do this if you have 50 exhibits and no zoo keepers but it's worth a try. sorry it's early her and i'm tired so if none of this makes sense just kick me. LOL
