How To Get More Babies
« on: January 16, 2006, 06:21:12 PM »
I've noticed that if I do the following I can get a female cheetah to have 3-4 cubs in the same littler. It onced worked it a Siberian Tiger who gave birth to three cubs.

Make a the smallest exhibit possible, it seems cruel but it's only for a few minnuts.

When the screen says Animal so-and so "is going to give birth", pause the game and move her to the new encloser.  Now unpause the game, it dosen't work all the time but I don't get quads any other way.

Also all the animals I had were at least second generation.

The small exhibit, is that for her to be in just while she's pregnant? Always? Just when she's heavily pregnant? Sorry, I'm a bit confused.

The female only needs to be kept in the small exhibit until her babies are born (be prepared for "so-and-so needs more space" comments popping up), then you can put her and the babies back in the original exhibit.      From what I noticed it only works when the pregnency icon is red and it can only be done with cheetahs and other cat species that are of at least second generation.   I can't garentee it will work everytime but it's worth a try and make sure the exhibit is TENY TINY.

If I keep my in an exhibit which has a lot of plants, trees, rocks, plants, water, toys, food types.... then they always seem to have 2 young. Not all animals, only felids, moose and beavers.

Please don't jump all over me if it didn't work, maybe this was just a lucky considence but almost half of the time when I pin my 2nd generation cheetahs up in a teny encloer they will have at least 3 cubs.    The exhibit should be made up of only four walls (what kind of wall you use dosen't matter). You'll get a bunch of complants that the female and her babies don't have enough space but after they are born you can move them back to the main encolser.

I think I can say that it worked. I had a Snowstalker, and was alerted that she was going to give birth, so I placed her in an exhibit with three fences(since that was the smallest I could make) and she gave birth. Then I went to move her and her new born baby back, and her stats showed that she was still giving birth, then, a few seconds later, she gave birth to two other babies. I am not sure if that is what she was supposed to do or not, but she didn't give birth to all three at the same time(she had one, then she had two more a few seconds later). However I tried this with a rhino and it didn't work.

Doesn't work for me.... the female gets very angry because of the space issue. BTW this won't work with rhinos, elephants, zebras or any animal which can only have 1 baby.

Ok, I had made a whole huge zoo to try this out, and it does work. I had a first generation jaguar give birth to 3 cubs (1 then 2). I wonder if you could keep on doing it and get like 9(although that might be pretty challenging). I'm 90% sure this works with all animals. What you have to do is put the mother in the very small cage(i'm not even sure if it has to be small), and pause it right when you see the babies popping up into the world. If the mother's status still says "giving birth", it should work, hopefully. Pick her up and put her in another exhibit, and she will give birth all over again. And, wa-la. You have some pretty nice sized litters. :lol

EDIT: Ok, I just went back to experiment with my theory of getting as many babies as possible. I repeated this process of putting the mother in different exhibits until she had 6 babies!  :w00t So, it seems it may be possible to get as many babies as you want! :D Oh, the excitement.

EDIT: Ok, I know, another edit, but I just had 3 births with Cheetahs and every time when the mom finally had a set of two babies, I couldn't use this cheat to get more babies.

PurpleHippo,

In which Zoo Tycoon is this? It's not listed on Microsoft's list of official cheats.  And 2. Does it really tell you when the animal is pregnant and is going to give birth? In Zoo Tycoon 1 for example, the message just says "Congratulations!! Animal Number So-andso has given birth.

I think ES. But I remember several cheetahs giving birth to 3 cubs at the same time before I got the expansion pack. (I've only tried it with cheetahs. I'll have to expiriment with other animals sometimes when I'm not buzy cleaning up and filling dishes that my zookeepers were supposed to do. :angry )

No, the original version of ZT2 dosen't say when an animal is "going to have birth" but ES does and if it is an endangerd species you get a "balloon boquet".  Pink if the baby is a girl and blue for a boy. Pink and blue if you have a boy and a girl in the same litter.

Sorry, I don't know how to get pictures. I don't have an account at Photo Bucket or anything but if I did I'd be more than happy to post a pic. I really want to too.  :(

I finnaly got around to doing some research on cheetahs and lions.   All of the cheetahs that have birth to more than 2 cubs were of 2nd or more generation and had "king" cheetah in them (don't know if that had anything do with it) and I also had a conservation center.  Lions were the white (which dosen't stay white if it gets dirty enough) varient skin you can downlaod here.   The small encolser has do be built in advance you can't build it while the game is paused and the animal is about to have a baby.

I don't know if it works for elephants, because they normally only have one calf. But then, so do chimps, and Purple Hippo said they had a chimp with 3 babies, so it's worth a try! I'll give it a test next time I have a pregnant elephant. I'd be surprised if that works for them, though, because in the wild, they usually only have one.

It's an interesting cheat, but it seems kind of like manipulating' nature, to me. :(

True, hadn't thought of that.  :sad But when you put the female in the new exhibit, does it need to have plants ? my female animals always seem to give birth in plants.

Whenever I tried this the exhibits were bare. Seems cruel but it's only until they give birth then you can move them back into a larger, more enriching encloser.   I never trid it with plants though.

I've been trying and trying to get this to work, but all the animals just sit in their new exhibit for a few seconds, then get up and start doing something else -- even when the "activity field" was still on "Giving Birth" when they were moved.

Do you need to move the animals at the exact moment that they are about to give birth? Right when they lay down?
