Live Prey
« on: April 08, 2007, 08:55:17 AM »
Do you ever give meat eaters live prey. On ES I feed gibbons to tigers and org ZT2 I feed gazelles to lions and in MM2 I feed dolphins to orcas. For me it actually makes my meateater happy.

Yes, I do. So does my friend. I like it because the animals are hunting like they would in the wild.
Oh, and  :easter1

This is what to do. Delete everything in zoo and guests will go. One time I made  Africa. I put rf in middle, desert up top, wetland by the edge, mountains by a river, scrub and savannah everywhere else. And I put every African Animal in ZT2 in their.(I have zZookeepers collection)

Well this is just me but I would rather stick to the specified prey like those lizards and the arctic cods, it just won't seem right in the real world. I mean really, think about it. Giving a $20,000 gibbon to a $8,000 lion. IT'S A WASTE OF MONEY AS WELL AS ANIMALS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't give my animals live prey as I don't see them doing that in zoos.  Captive animals are not as efficient and practiced hunters as their wild counterparts, and giving an inexperienced hunter live prey in a zoo setting would only lead to potential injury if the prey fights back, and unecessary suffering for the prey as an inexperienced hunter would not be able to acheive a quick kill.

I know that some tigers, etc, are given live rabbits but only as a very rare treat. Usually they are frozen, etc. I give my zoo animals live prey though because I just like watching them stalk it lol

Mika, you are so mean!!

I must just be too soft, because I couldn't do that to my animals! And its not going to help with guest happiness, or zoo fame, so strategically I wouldn't do it, either.

ooh, i wouldn't be to sure about that.  The prey animals end up spending all their time running away and then don't have time to stop and eat.  so eventually they starve.  not so nice.

I don't do it simply because...well.. its kinda of unrealistic *I know! coming from me? who woulda thunk?*
I know, im fine with dinosaurs..but no live prey? =o
I dont mind the items, they don't cost $1250, but feeding a caracal a meerkat..just doesnt seem appealing to me.
also, when you are playing challenge maps... its kinda stupid.. 0.o *I DO play challenge maps =D* I think its kind of..expensive as well =)

Yeah but how do you get the zookeepers to not bring food in. Like one time I gave my great white shark a sea lion and the zookeeper came in and put down some food for the shark.

Fire the zookeeper or delete the exhibit entrance and replace it with a regular fence.
