Age of Empires series
« on: January 12, 2007, 07:08:52 AM »
Here's a topic on discussing Age of Empires past, present, and future.  Just to start off what was everyone's opinion on the Warchiefs XP for Age of Empires III?  I thought it was great.  It was really cool being able to play as the Aztecs, Iroquois, and Sioux Indians.  The Revolution feature is awesome to.  I love being able to revolt from the mother country and become other countries like the U.S., Haiti, Brazil, and so much more.  The one thing I didn't like is that once you revolt you can't have any more settlers and your resoruces run out fast.  So make sure you have a large stockpile of resources before throwing a revolution.  I also dislike how historically inaccurate the game is.  Most countries revolted in the colonial age( 1700-1800s ) not the industrial age (1900s).

I got Age of Mythology Gold Edition for Christmas (which you probably know  is Age of the Empire I and II + the Titans expansion pack).  I've been so busy grabbing images out of the game for design use that I haven't had time to play it yet!

The orginal AoE is and was a classic.  One of my favorite RTS games ever.  Excellent Rise of Rome expansion as well.

AoE II was a much an improved version of the first in a new time period.  Another classic, though I didn't spend the epic hours with it that I did with the first.

III was a bit of a disappointment to me.  It was similar to the first two in ways, but seemed a departure from the strategic nature of the first two.  I also felt like I couldn't zoom out enough, which is incredibly distracting.  Still, it was a good game in its own right.  Just not what I had hoped for.  The expansion has created some fun that I wanted in the first.  I really did think, "I want to be able to play more natives."  And then they let me.  (Its the logical expansion of course, but do game companies always act logically?  I didn't think so.: :P : )
