You have to open .z2f files in C:Program Files/Microsoft Games/Zoo Tycoon 2 with an extracting program such as winZip or Winrar.

This, however, is not related so please if you have a different question start a new topic.

ok, i have been searching and searching, and the only animal, that has one baby at a time, that i could find the min and max plays was the african elephant, i just can't find it in any of the others, i usually find the strand that pertains to the babies near the end of the document, could i possibly find it elsewhere.

and penguinman, you kept saying that you had to edit the .tsk file, and i edited the .beh file, and everything worked fine, i had african wild dogs coming out of my ears...lol

Thats odd because normally the string you need is in the .tsk file, but oh well.

And as I said, you can just add the sting about babies into the file if it is not there, or else just edit the current one if it is.

I don't think it will, but it is possible that it will. Worse case scenero you can
1. Delete it
2. Reinstall the game

But it is risky and it is your choice.

:help I was wondering if anyone has the resources and the time to make a list of what the "actual" offspring ranges are for all the ZT2 animals??  I've tried, but my internet connection messes up too often for me to find them all online!! :crying: :ermm: I know that is a huge task, but I just thought I would ask, in case someone may have done it for themselves, or thought about it. :pooch:

these are what I found in some of the files BUT I have found that some of the max's have never applied in the actual game. Example: Black Leopard shows min/max at 2 and 3, but I have NEVER seen 3 babies at once.
Jaguar 2,3 (never seen 3)
Hippo 1
Lion 2, 3 ( never seen 3)
Cheetah 2,3 (" " 3)
Black Rhino 1
Polar Bear 1,2,3 (" " 3)
Ring-tailed Lemur 1,2 (" " 2)
Grizzly Bear 1,2,3 (" " 3)
Emperor Penguin 1
Ostrich 1,2 (" " 2)
Nile Croc 1,2 (" " 2)
Red Kangaroo 1
Okapi 1
Amer Beaver 1,2,3
African Elephant 1
Moose 1,2,3
Drom Camel 1
Thomson's Gazelle 1
Begal Tiger 2,3 (" " 3)

There are some. Maybe I looked in the wrong .tsk or .beh file to find min/max. If I did, please let me know...

Thanks for replying, but I guess I wasn't clear about what I was asking...  I'm wondering what the ranges are for animals in the wild for each species.  For example, canine species usually have litters, not 2 pups, or as crocs were mentioned earlier, they have many offspring (but I don't know how many they usually have).
  :sign_sorr  for the confusion!

wildlife enthusiast, i think that crocs have between 150 and 200 eggs to a batch, which is quite impossible in the game, lol,

For the massive-numbers-of-eggs animals I usually set 8-10. I figured about that number would survive from the original batch of eggs.

Distorted: Open it with notepad and it should work, unless you are opening the wrong file.

conservationkid: Maybe it is because they are read-only files? I dunno

Ramin_Raptor: Make sure you are editing the correct one. If you have ES, edit the ES files and if you have AA you must edit it in the AA files.

I did Penguinman, it did work, I just don't understand any of it? It is like coded, I will put a sample below so you can understand, mine looks nothing like Ramin Raptors, so maybe I am not doing it right? But I clicked on the ai file and opened it with notepad? That would be correct wouldn't it?

The lovely text stuff I get:

Distorted, does the "ai file" you speak of end in ".xml"? If not, what does it end with?

Awesome Ramin_Raptor! I'm glad I could help

Distorted: Artemis is right, mostly. It should end in .beh or .tsk (i forget which). It does not look like you are opening the right file....

@Distorted: Oh, I should probably explain myself a bit further! I'm assuming you're opening the wrong type of file, since that is what would cause the weird font thing. ".xml" was just an example, though .xml files do open properly in Wordpad/Notepad.

As Penguinman said, the file you're looking for ends in ".beh".

Hmm, I was opening a direct file, which is the wrong one obviously, but I have went through all the folders etc. and none say: 'ai.beh' there is no file actually with ai that I can find to my knowledge? Maybe it has something to do with my computer settings, or just my bad luck streak :ermm:

You go into the ai folder, then tasks, then animals. Then, there will be LOADS of files, 2 per animal. There is a .tsk and a .beh for each animal. Open the .beh for the animal that you want.
