hey everybody i have found the way to make animals live longer/shorter. the only thing is, i dont know what it means tho  :erm

i was wondering if you guys could help out?

here's an example:

Greater Flamingo:   lifespan="GE 8.35"

African Elephant:    lifespan="GE 71.55"

but what does this mean? does this mean 8 and 71 days? or 8 and 71 minutes?  ;)

see what you guys think   :happy

Ok yes this works. i've edited all my animal tsk files and they are now living normal, LONG lives :lol

yes my flamingos now live for 50 years not 8 months lol i also edited the baby files  so now the animals dont mature until the proper mature age. my lions now grow up at about 2 years as an example

I realize that technically it has been more than an hour, but 3 posts in a row that close together is considered double posting. Next time plesae use your Edit button to add information to your first post.

where did you find that?  which file?  I went to the flamingogreater.beh file, but there was no lifespan=GE 8.35 anywhere to be found.

could you give directions to the file you used?

Yeah that would certanly keep my zoos going for awhile. If only I could find the files then I could make every animal live for 100 months!

I've looked through the files for a way to change lifespans and reproduction, but I can't find it.  If someone knows how to do this, it would be greatly appreciated if they posted it here.

@ HorseGal: Here is the link for Coding For More Babies.  I've posted there myself a few times, but it only addresses the number of possible offspring.... If there are any other threads about lifespans, I've never found them.  Anyway, I hope that helps!!

found it! just go to porgram files/microsoft games/zootycoon2/ai/tasks/animals/THE ANIMAL YOU WANT HERE.tsk open the file using notepad, hit Ctrl+f typ life in, and there it is!: :) :

[EDIT] i found if you replace the numbers with false, that animal won't die! and if true, the animal dies randomly!: :) :

There are several lines with lifespan in it. Which one of them actually affects the animal?

What file did you edit to change when they mature? (.beh or .tsk) Also, what do you change in the file?

Can someone post an example of a change?
  • What does the default number mean (ie. how long is it)?
  • What did you change it to?
  • Do you only change the number in one place?

Thanks!!  :flipper:

Alright, I haven't had the chance to test this yet, but it SOUNDS like what people are doing is thus:

Go to: Program Files\Microsoft Games\Zoo Tycoon 2\   and open up "ai.z2f" with winRAR.
Open ai>animals and go to the tsk file you want.

find the line that says "" (or whatever the number happens to be.

Change that number to what you want it to be. Save the tsk file (it should be in notepad) and then winRAR will ask you if you want to update the z2f file or whatever and you click yes...

Is this correct? Can anybody else verify?

Do you know what it looks to me like they did? They made the numbers roughly match the ACTUAL lifespans of the real animals, so in the game the animals live about the number of months that they would years, IRL. 0_o Weird.

Anyway, if I got that wrong, please feel free to correct me.

EDIT: This thread addresses the subject a LITTLE bit: http://zoo.ogresnet.com/forums/showthread.php?t=4584
