Moving to ZT2 editing as this isn't a tech issue.

you have to edit a line in the .xml in entities/units/animals/ (animal chosen) / ai/ and it would be the first file. I lost my winrar, so I unfortunately can't tell you which line. But that is the file.

Search for .bfm in the xml.

Now, you may see something like .bfm" scale=".8"/>

If you see that, change the number however you want. For instance you could make it 1 to make it larger or .5 to make it smaller.

Or, you may see something like .bfm" />

In which case you will need to insert scale=number". If the number is larger than one it will be bigger, and if it is smaller it will be smaller. For instance, if I wanted to make it bigger it would then look like: .bfm" scale="1.5"/>

APE II is a guide for making new animals. It does have this in it, but under the context of resizing a new animal, not existing ones.

APE II is NOT a program like the first APE was... it is a TUTORIAL on HOW to make animals for Zoo Tycoon 2.

They are for two different versions of the game. APE II is for ZT2 and APE 2.5 is for ZT1.

You can download either of them in our Downloads section. :original:

You can open the xml file in notepad and use the "find" option under edit i think.  It should bring you to the line with the scale.

Are you using APE 2?  If you aren't you should.  It gives pretty good directions.  Also, when you put an animal into the game, you need to place it in a special folder C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft Games\Zoo Tycoon 2\downloads\zootycoon_com_zt2_1033

from there, you can put your animal in one of those folders, and it should work.

yes, I have APE 2

okay, it still isn't working!

I open APE 2, then I find the thing I want to edit, I right-click and click on Extract without confirmation, then Ihave a folder on my decktop, i open it and go to the file I just extracted, then I right-click, and click on open with... notepad.  Then I edit it andclose and save it.  I have to put it on my comp then.  Then i put it in the folder fawkes said and then I open ZT2, and it isn't there!!

Please tell me what I am doing wrong!!

PS sorry to be so annoying!

Okay, I'm changing the name of this topic, because "just wondering" isn't going to get you many, if any, answers. People don't know what it's about, so they don't bother to read it. You'll get more answers when it's been changed.

Okay, I'm going to use the lion as an example.

Go into Entities/Units/Animals/ai/lion.xml
You can open this with Notepad. Use Edit/Search and search for "scale". In lion the line will be
scale="0.7"/>

Change the 0.7 to whatever you want. The bigger the number, the bigger the animal. So say you want it bigger. Change it to scale ="1.0" />.

Then simply use File/Save.

Now comes the tricky part. You have to REPLACE the lion ai WITH the one you edited. You use WinRAR for this.

If you're making a new animal, when you're done, you place it in the game. Nothing gets replaced from the original game.

What versions of ZT2 do you have? ES? AA? And what is it you are trying to make? You must make it out of an existing animal. New models cannot be made.

I placed the edited APE2 file in the downloads folder and I have ES and AA.  I am trying to make a girraffe, lion, tiger, and pretty much all the big cats:happy:
