Plant Help
« on: February 13, 2007, 01:44:27 PM »
Okay I started making a plant and it actually got into the game.  Only some problems.  One, the plant looks like this:

Also,  in the zoopedia it doesn't show the plant ( Divercate Coral)  It is one big coral entry, but that's fine the way it is.  Finally there is no description in the adoption menu or even its name.  I made this from the Fire Coral, my codename was DiveCoral because it was FireCoral.  When do I fully type Divercate instead of Dive?

Well as to the names not showing up,  there are two lang files for MM2 that you need to code.  I had this same problem with my Large Kelp Forest.

Okay thanks!  Where exactly is this other lang file? I checked 1033 and there is only one.

Ok, you actually have a few things going on here. The pink/dotted problem is a naming problem with your .dds files. Make sure that the name you gave your .dds files is exactly what is used in the Materials files.

The Zoopedia not showing your icon - is a problem in your lang file. Again, double check that the lang file is pointing to the exact name of the icon file (the .dds file).

Now, for the rest of your lang file problems, I admit, I'm not 100% sure but I made another plant from a MM plant, and I only had to have one lang file.

Animalover: That only happens if you get the lang files from the game.

MarineManiac: How did you get your lang file?
In the ai file, search for entityname and you will find entityname:something  Change something to match the codename you used in the lang file

As to the dots: Did you change the materials files so that the dds name inside of them matches the dds file?

So basically I should have name my DiveCoral_icon  to this ( the files in the materials folder)
DiveCoral_CoralDive_mod0.bfmat or this DiveCoral_CoralDive_Rock_mod0.bfmat

I got my lang file from lang>1033>xp2_foliage entries

You know here's my layout for my files mabye theres are problem there:

entities>objects>foliage>DiveCoral>DiveCoral_icon (DDS)
                                              >DiveCoral.bfb.
                                                  >Materials>DiveCoral_CoralDive_mod0.bfmat
              >DiveCoral_CoralDive_Rock_mod0.bfmat
                                              >ai>DiveCoral_Reef ( Text Document)
lang>1033>foliage>xp2_foliage_entries
ui>zoopedia>entries>xp2_foliage

Just so you know the materials folder is in the DiveCoral Folder.

Ok, your files should be set up like this:

entities>Objects>Foliage>DiveCoral>DiveCoral_icon
                  >DiveCoral.bfb
                  >all .dds files
                                                >Materials>BFMAT files

entities>Objects>Foliage>ai>.xml file

lang>1033>.xml file

ui>zoopedia>entities>.xml file

MM - do you happen to have any of my foliage downloads? Maybe it would help to take one apart so ou can see how it's laid out and how to set up your lang file. You don't want xp2_foliage_entries

Not yet, but I plan on doing that once the download section is up.

The only thing I did wrong was that my DiveCoral_Reef in ai is a Text how can I get that back to XLM and I have an extra folder between the XLM and the 1033.

Did I do my .dds files correctly?

Are all of your .dds files in the DiveCoral folder?

Yes.  So if I don't want xp2_foliage_entries what do I do?

If there are inconsistencies in the .bfb, can this cause the polka dots?  I scrolled through my entire file and noticed a whole bucnh of fire when there should have been dive.

Edit: nope that didn't do it either.  What I am doing.  I can't figure it out.  I've checked through my files dozens of times and every is as it should be, so why are these polka dots coming up?  Did I save , my DDS incorrectly.  I kept it the same and didn't change the Save As box.

Well if it says mtl or whatever the material file extension is (I haven't messed with objects or foliage since my Phorusrhacos nest :bag:) then those things must be called yoru codename, and then the material files in the material folder have to be named exactly as you did in the bfb

What he meant is that in the Materials folder - those files inside (open with notepad) should have a line reading something similar to this: brickwall The texture refers to the .dds file so make sure that it says the name of your .dds file. (For instance here it would be brickwall - referring to brickwall.dds)

And the other:

MM, I don't see anything immediately wrong with that... if you'd like, PM me for my email and I would be happy to look at it to see if I can find the problem.
