Title: Peacenote1 Zoos
Post by: Peacenote on August 19, 2005, 07:20:43 PM
I thought I'd try my hand at posting a few pics!  :w00t   I haven't done this before, so I hope you like them!   :8   I'm going to start off with some pictures from the various scenarios that I really liked, and hopefully eventually get to going through a whole zoo.  But we'll see what happens.....

Anyway, first is a picture of some camels enjoying a little oasis I made for them in their desert.

I really like this picture for some reason.  I think it looks artistic with the pink in the sky and the flamingo and the roses...and I like how the baby seems curious about the hippo!

This is my last picture, for now at least.   :happy

Hello!  I'm going to post a few pics of the new zoo I'm working on.  It's not exactly themed, but I do have two goals with this one:
1) Elevation.  I'm trying to make it so that when you walk around this zoo, you see all sorts of interesting levels and heights.
2) I want to use all the user-made animals I've downloaded!  :)

EDIT:  You may have noticed some of the links for the pics I put up on Aug 27th stopped working, so I changed all the posts so you can download the pics as attachments instead.  Hopefully that will work better.

So here goes!  Here's the first person view of walking into the zoo.  I like how you can already see different levels, just by walking in:

If you continue straight, you'll find the first winding path, leading you up.
Title: Peacenote1 Zoos
Post by: Peacenote on August 26, 2005, 10:47:55 PM
As you can see from this overhead shot, the path leads to a high foodcourt, where you can eat and look out over the whole zoo, including the surrounding tiger and red panda exhibits.

I hope this isn't too many tiger pictures, but....

Look at this little guy using the elevated sleeping platform!  He looks like he's using it for a lookout post, instead of sleeping.   :lol

If you were to veer right of the center path, you'd catch sight of the Red Panda Exhibit.

Or you could go across the way and descend into the Saola and Pygmy Hippo Exhibit.

Here's an overhead shot.

EDIT:  I don't like my close-up shots of this exhibit, and it's getting late, so that's going to be all for now!

Back at the tiger exhibit, if you turn around you'll find a playground, featuring all the latest zoo rides, as well as a relaxing gazebo and a photo booth.

There used to be drinking fountains there as well, but even with three of them they caused HUGE lines so I took them out!

Yup, those drink fountains *shakes head* I hardly ever use them anymore. :rolleyes

Thank-you, Zoo and Tyto alba, for the comments and for taking the time to look at my zoo!!!

Continuing on from the playground, guests can ascend to enter the Safari-Themed Rhino/Ostrich exhibit.  There are two dedicated observation points, although the view is great around the whole exhibit!   ;)

You can also see the dessert food court nearby, put in due to OVERWHELMING requests by the guests.

Well the next picture I have features....the bathrooms!  Seriously!   :lol   I went on a mini-quest to disguise the bathrooms as much as possible, and it resulted in this guest area following the dessert food court.  It has beautiful trees (starring the Durian!), flowerbeds, fountains, a reptile house, a gazebo, an educator....and two family bathrooms!

Thanks, everyone!  :)

Next up is the Asiatic Black Bear exhibit.  Next to the super-bathrooms, and underneath the rhino/ostrich exhibit, the bears must be REALLY happy in their new home because they breed very quickly!  This exhibit features elevation with a hill for the bears to climb.

Wow, so many nice comments!   :blush  I'm glad you're enjoying the zoo, I am really enjoying making it and putting a lot of effort into it.  And even a picure request!  GoneWild, I will work on getting a first person picture of that exhibit.  I might even have one that I just didn't put up.  Anyways, thanks everyone, the positive responses definitely brighten up my day!   :)  :happy

OK, going to post a few more pics of the Hippo/Saola exhibit.  The picture below is the view from the lowered viewing area.  It is the right side, which is all water.  You can get pretty close to the animals!  As you can see the Pygmy Hippos are pretty happy, too!   :happy

Here's a first person view from what I call the non-obstructive viewing area - viewing area with low fencing and no trees in the way.  You can see a couple of Pygmy Hippos and if you look VERY closely a baby saola.  This view features the left side of the exhibit.
Title: Peacenote1 Zoos
Post by: Peacenote on October 04, 2005, 03:29:30 PM
That's all I have for the Pygmy Hippo/Saola exhibit for now, since I don't have my game CD I can't take new pics at the moment.  If I get a better picture I'll put that up, too, or replace it wit one of the ones that is up now.

Back on the tour, the next exhibit on display is the Cameroon Dwarf Goat/Shetland Pony Exhibit.  If you're still at the Asiatic Bear exhibit, you just need to keep moving further into the zoo and turn right.  If you went back to the main food court to grab a bite to eat, you simply need to exit the back access path that was added.  Here's an overhead shot, although the Cameroon Dwarf Goat numbers have gone up significantly since it was taken!  Note that the Bengal Tigers are overlooking the exhibit.  They can look, but not stalk!   ;)

So you just visited the Asiatic Bear exhibit, or used the super-luxurious bathrooms.  To the right, you can see the fence of the Goat/Pony exhibit.  Straight ahead, there's a comfortable gazebo beckoning, or a playground and gift shop beyond that.  There are many things to do at the zoo at sunset.  And to the left, what's that?  A rising path, which leads to...where?  Stay tuned to find out!!   :P  :whistle

Hey Peacenote! After your message in my S&T, I thought I should return the favour and check out your stuff again. And I am really pleased I did. This 'elevation zoo' is fantastic.  :D  Any chance of getting it put up for download when its done? :rolleyes

Thank-you very much, Rosina's Cat!  I could definitely put it up for download if people are interested!   ;)

So, you're eyeing the rising path.  And it takes you to...the King Cheetah exhibit!  While I didn't want to make my next elevated exhibit also be a Savannah one, I got so excited about these guys I couldn't resist.  But this exhibit does have some different features, such as
- a dedicated guest area, complete with restrooms and a restaurant
- it is quite large, so large I couldn't get the overview to fit on one screen
- a large waterfall
- a level animal plateau in the center: when the King Cheetahs are lounging there, they are actually level with the guests!
- detailed paths lighted by flame
- fountains and rides

Shake!  I mean Paw!  I mean Wave!  Wait, I mean....

Ahem!  We do NOT train our wild animals here at the zoo to perform tricks.  We are dedicated to making their lives as close to their wild environments as possible.  Instead, what I meant to say was, a young King Cheetah grooming.   :lol

Next up is the Persian Leopard exhibit.  At this point it is only accessible from the SWA/Quagga Exhibit path, although I may add access from the other side later.  I particularly like the way this exhibit turned out.  I tried two new things - a step technique, and an "invisible" fence for the viewing area.  The cliff keeps the Persian Leopards in the exhibit, and the little fence the guests can't see keeps them from walking over the edge.

Next up is the Forest Elephant/Eastern Bongo exhibit.  You can either make your way back to the Saola/Pygmy Hippo exhibit, or, if you're at the back of the zoo, go back to the high food court and exit the side path, which leads straight to the exhibit!

I am surprised to see some fairly recent comments in here, since I haven't updated in a while!   :rolleyes   But thanks, you guys, I am planning on putting up some more shots soon, since I'm getting the creative bug again.

And, misskerry, that's exactly what I did, just locked a zookeeper in each exhibit and gave him (or her) a bench.  For this zoo I didn't worry about money at all, although actually I think it does make money.  Some of the exhibits actually have 2 'keepers.

As sad as it is, I haven't really "finished" a zoo I've loved since the ES came out, because I've been so busy doing other things, like learning how to make stuff!   :lol

However, I'd be happy to try and make one for my next Show and Tell project, and if you like it, I'll upload it.   :happy Since you suggested, any requests?  Jeep or Sky Tram?  User downloads or no?

I'll leave it up to you... I download most user-created animals, so if you decide to use some, chances are that I will have them.  But, I basically just want a decent zoo to play, and since building never seems to go well for me, I'm open to anything...Just have fun and be creative!! :approve

I hope it isn't inappropriate and/or out of line for me to answer a question here :erm , being that it is Peacenote1's thread, but I noticed the question and figured I could answer it real quick...
Shiela, to capture over head pics, just position your overhead view over what you want a pic of, hit the Print Screen key on your keyboard, minimize the game, open Microsoft Paint (other photo editing programs may work, but I've only used this one for this, and anyone running Windows should have it :happy).  Once Paint is open, just click on Edit --> Paste (or right-click on the blank document then click Paste), and Voila!!  I hope you have fun taking great overhead shots like Peacenote1's cool pics!!   :fireworks

Sorry to refer to pics you posted so long ago (september!), but can I ask where you got your Asian Black Bears from? I couldn't see them in the downloads section here.

Thanks! :D

Sure, that's OK.  I am working on a new zoo now and will be posting pics VERY soon!  (I know I keep saying that but I actually started one the other day!!!)

My Asian Black Bears are the infamous you-can-only-get-them-if-you-buy-the-ZTCellphone game bears.  I bought the game for my cell phone for like $2.99, spent an unfun time unlocking everything, and got to download it.

OK, as I've promised, I've started a new zoo!  I hope you guys like it.  (I may go back to the previous zoo eventually, but I was having performance problems with it and got frustrated!)

This zoo is a new zoo in Africa, medium-sized.  It's so new, in fact, that an official name has not been chosen.  It's growing every day, and the zoo administrators want as much publicity as possible.  They've hired a photographer who has free reign throughout the zoo at any hour to try and capture great shots of their zoo.  This zoo is designed to make you forget you're in the desert, with lots of lush foliage.  There are 5 full time gardeners on staff right now!  It also aims to be quirky, and to make the guests feel surrounded and immersed in the animals and biomes that it is featuring.  Here are some of the pictures the photographer has published:

(http://img137.imageshack.us/img137/738/entrance4zx.th.jpg) (http://img137.imageshack.us/my.php?image=entrance4zx.jpg)  Here's the entrance.  I personally found it to be exceptionally beautiful and inviting, when I visited.   ;)

(http://img58.imageshack.us/img58/9402/entrancepatio1hy.th.jpg) (http://img58.imageshack.us/my.php?image=entrancepatio1hy.jpg)  To the left and right of the entrance path are patios, where guests can stop (or return) to rest and reflect.

(http://img58.imageshack.us/img58/5967/overheadentry4qq.th.jpg) (http://img58.imageshack.us/my.php?image=overheadentry4qq.jpg)  The first animal exhibit, which surrounds the entrance, belongs to the rare South China Tiger.  If that doesn't bring the guests in, I don't know what will!   :lol You can see from this overhead shot the zoo entrance, the elevated path, and the surrounding exhibit, complete with waterfall.  The Sky Tram tour is ready for expansion, but no circuit has been built yet.

(http://img45.imageshack.us/img45/1002/southchinaoverhead6vc.th.jpg) (http://img45.imageshack.us/my.php?image=southchinaoverhead6vc.jpg)  Here's a good view of the Tiger exhibit with the elevated paths transparent.  (The zoo entrance is on the left.)  Note the ground level viewing area, where you can get up close and personal with the magnificent animals.

(http://img45.imageshack.us/img45/5254/tigeradvance9cb.th.jpg) (http://img45.imageshack.us/my.php?image=tigeradvance9cb.jpg)  Next the photographer (who has zookeeper training  :P ) got to enter the exhibit.  Here's a great shot of a tiger advancing.

(http://img215.imageshack.us/img215/4235/tigerdrink0xi.th.jpg) (http://img215.imageshack.us/my.php?image=tigerdrink0xi.jpg)  Shot of a South China Tiger peacefully drinking against a backdrop of bamboo.  Look at that cute tail!

(http://img239.imageshack.us/img239/8479/babyjump7cv.th.jpg) (http://img239.imageshack.us/my.php?image=babyjump7cv.jpg)  We've already had some new arrivals, one boy and one girl.  I'm not sure which this is, but look at those cute little feet!  The babies sure are playful.   :happy

(http://img55.imageshack.us/img55/9238/babyswim2ib.th.jpg) (http://img55.imageshack.us/my.php?image=babyswim2ib.jpg)  Even the cubs love the water!

Thanks, everyone!  I'm so glad you like this zoo, it's the first one I've put a lot of effort into in a long time!  I have more pics now, which actually were ready last night but I couldn't get in to put them up!

(http://img93.imageshack.us/img93/3854/spectacledbearoverview3yk.th.jpg) (http://img93.imageshack.us/my.php?image=spectacledbearoverview3yk.jpg)  To the right of the zoo entrance is the Spectacled Bear exhibit.  The zoo designers made a strong effort to make the terrain natural and interesting for its tenants.

(http://img135.imageshack.us/img135/111/sboverviewwithpath4eh.th.jpg) (http://img135.imageshack.us/my.php?image=sboverviewwithpath4eh.jpg)  Here's another view of the exhibit from a different angle with the elevated path showing.  From this angle you can see what I call the "Best Shot of the Zoo," which is that little overhang where you can see almost the whole exhibit and the busy exhibit beyond.

(http://img352.imageshack.us/img352/8316/bestshotinthezoo7gi.th.jpg) (http://img352.imageshack.us/my.php?image=bestshotinthezoo7gi.jpg)  Here is a photo snapped from that overhang.  As you can see, the zoo has first focused on bringing in Temperate Forest animals, which are not as common here in the desert.

Did you know?  The zoo's first pair of Spectacled Bears did not appreciate the natural, hilled exhibit at all.  They sulked  and refused to eat.  The zookeepers couldn't coax them out of their unhappiness and finally put the pair up for adoption together.  The pictures you will next see are actually of the second pair of Spectacled Bears that the zoo acquired.  Those two bears made themselves right at home!   :angel

(http://img138.imageshack.us/img138/4031/groundviewingarea6fa.th.jpg) (http://img138.imageshack.us/my.php?image=groundviewingarea6fa.jpg)  Here is the view you would see if you chose to view the exhibit from the ground viewing area (attached to the South China Tiger's ground viewing area) instead of from the elevated path.

(http://img85.imageshack.us/img85/6789/beatifulfoliage0hx.th.jpg) (http://img85.imageshack.us/my.php?image=beatifulfoliage0hx.jpg)  This show was just too beautiful NOT to include, even though it doesn't showcase any animals.  It's a view of the foliage and zoo entrance from the Spectacled Bear ground viewing area.  I love all the color in this shot.  Careful if you click on it, as it IS big.

(http://img222.imageshack.us/img222/669/bearonrock2nz.th.jpg) (http://img222.imageshack.us/my.php?image=bearonrock2nz.jpg)  Here's the male bear, I believe, enjoying the big rock in his exhibit.  These bears really do have beautiful markings.

Well, now you guys are exaggerating!   :blush   Thank you so much, though.  A lot of the decorations are from the Spring Pack, but the path right outside the entrance of the zoo is the gravel path made by Honor.  And the tiger skin path is one of Doooot's.   :happy

Folks, we have a real treat for you now.  Our highly trained photographer just happened to be in the exhibit when the female spectacled bear gave birth to a beautiful cub.  Next are a series of shots from this wonderful event.

(http://img469.imageshack.us/img469/1149/griskoalaovervie3sw.th.jpg) (http://img469.imageshack.us/my.php?image=griskoalaovervie3sw.jpg)  If you were to take a left after entering the zoo, you would pass the future Sky Tram site and find this exhibit.  It's a mixed exhibit with Koalas, Grison, Eurasian Badgers, and Peafowl.  There's no ground level viewing area, but the elevated path goes very low into the exhibit so you really feel like you're right in the middle of it.

(http://img515.imageshack.us/img515/4281/popularexhibit9du.th.jpg) (http://img515.imageshack.us/my.php?image=popularexhibit9du.jpg)  It's a very popular exhibit.  I have it on good authority that "It's cool that Koala 1 and Grison 1 can share the same exhibit."  Since ES, apparently guests no longer fret when animals are stalked but appreciate the behavior as interesting, which I found to be a welcome improvement.

(http://img97.imageshack.us/img97/6748/grandcentral0ef.th.jpg) (http://img97.imageshack.us/my.php?image=grandcentral0ef.jpg)  It's like Grand Central Station in this exhibit!  And everyone is happy.  The zoo is keeping an eye on the peafowl, however, who seem to be more stressed about the presence of carnivores than the koala bears.  They might be moved to a different exhibit later on if they don't settle in.

(http://img503.imageshack.us/img503/6383/redpangibbonoverview9eg.th.jpg) (http://img503.imageshack.us/my.php?image=redpangibbonoverview9eg.jpg)  The next featured exhibit is to the right of the Spectacled Bear exhibit (As you enter the zoo, I mean.  In this pic it's to the left of the exhibit.).  There is a small ground viewing area, but mostly the best views are from the elevated path.  This exhibit is a large exhibit featuring Giant Pandas, Red Pandas, and Hollock Gibbons.

(http://img295.imageshack.us/img295/5835/epshot0be.th.jpg) (http://img295.imageshack.us/my.php?image=epshot0be.jpg)  Here is  shot from the elevated path.  Again you can see the exhibit designers tried to go with natural terrain as there are two large hills in the exhibit.

Giant Pandas are sooo cute in this game!!  Great pics!!  Peacenote, have you noticed if drastic changes in elevation take away from the amount of suitable terrain like in ZT1?  I've kind of avoided make high hills and dtuff, b/c I'm afraid it will decrease the capacity of the exhibit.
Title: Peacenote1 Zoos
Post by: Peacenote on March 26, 2006, 02:03:22 PM
Well, Wildlife Enthusiast, that's a tough question to answer because I don't know that it works quite the same way.  But I have wondered about that too, and what I did to try and maximize space is to smooth at least one side of every hill, so that when you assign the zookeeper it shows that the zookeeper is able to go there.  It's the only way I know of of "measuring" terrain in ZT2.  I'm assuming that anywhere a zookeeper can go is suitable terrain for the animals.  However I haven't tried any specific flat terrian/hilly terrain experiments.  Maybe csleesburg would be willing to do some....  just kidding csleesburg!!! ;)  :hehe  :tongue1

(http://img62.imageshack.us/img62/5597/lynxoverview6bo.th.jpg) (http://img62.imageshack.us/my.php?image=lynxoverview6bo.jpg)  Now what Temperate-Biome-Featuring zoo would be compete without the Spanish Lynx?  This is the last Temperate exhibit the zoo is going to have, at least for now, and it is the most recently built exhibit.  It started out as a perfect oval, but had to be expanded to make room for twins!

(http://img150.imageshack.us/img150/2294/lynxnopathortrees4ua.th.jpg) (http://img150.imageshack.us/my.php?image=lynxnopathortrees4ua.jpg)  Here's an overview from a different angle, with the elevated paths made transparent and the trees made invisible.  The exhibit lies forward from the Spectacled Bear exhibit and to the right of the South China Tiger exhibit.  The orange path with leaves is the specific ground viewing area for this exhibit, and is connected by arches to the Tiger ground viewing area.

Well, sorry to say, I HAVE tried it and zookeepers don't seem to climb very high (like in Alpine). They'll walk up regular hills, but don't climb up to feed animals. They put the food/water on any flat surface they find. And, they seem to ignore any food dishes/troughs that are on any slanted surface, too. And they rarely fill the elevated food dishes (I won't say never, but I've only seen it happen once). They always try to put the food on the ground or in a dish.

:sun   Thanks for the kind words everyone!

Now there WERE one or two little hints of what the next biome might be in a few other screenshots, but now the secret's out:

The zoo has decided to split from the flowery theme for a bit and has built a few very special Tundra exhibits!

The first exhibit is adjacent to the Panda/Gibbon exhibit and features Artic Wolves.

(http://img125.imageshack.us/img125/9209/wolfandbaby5ha.th.jpg) (http://img125.imageshack.us/my.php?image=wolfandbaby5ha.jpg)  The zoo's first Arctic Wolf pup.  Actually we had twins, but only one is in this shot.

You know they look a lot better then I thought they would now that I see them used in an actual zoo. Will have to check my image stash and see if I can make some more like those in a rainbow of colors.  :wtg

That's a really good idea!  Because not only do they look good by themselves, but they're really nice for making patterned paths (which you will see when I put up my next exhibit), so a rainbow of colors would pattern well with other existing paths.   :rolleyes

Very nice. Just one thing, you use too many different colored paths! It's WAAAAAAAAAAAY too random!
