Where do i save APE?

How should i download ape? Should I open or save it? If i have to save it were? Sorry About all the questions but i really want to know.

You get APE II by:[LIST=1]
  • Clicking the link in Downloads
  • Saving it to YOUR computer (usually the Desktop)
  • Opening it with WinZip or WinRar
  • Extracting it to somewhere you will remember in My Documents
  • Opening the HTML document, which is an ONLINE document
  • Follow instructions

Csl, this is in the ZT1 section so it's not for APE II.


Lamna, just save it to your computer in some place you can remember it so you can access it any time you want :original:

Usually in My Documents so then it doesnt get deleted off the Desktop.

Okay, I know I'm gonna sound like a total dufus for asking this, but I just want to be sure that I understand this whole "How Do I Install A.P.E." thing....

Once I have A.P.E. 1.1 (in ZIP form) downloaded onto my computer, I then extract (unzip) it into folder-of-my-choice, and run it from there, right?

I do not just open the ZIP and use the Application.exe file strait from the still-technically-zipped file that I downloaded.

I'm asking because I have tried the "still-in-zip" way (just to poke around- I haven't saved anything yet) and A.P.E. booted up rather quickly and seems to be working okay...but now I see words like "extract to a folder" and "takes a while to boot up" on different A.P.E. threads, and am starting to think I better find out the RIGHT way to run this thing before I try creating any animals!

Although sometimes running programs directly from a ".zip" will work, it will not always work. So it is safer to extract what is in a ".zip" before running the program. In my case for APE 1.1, I extracted the files into an "APE" folder directly on my C: drive. Any work I do is directly in that folder. The important thing is to not put APE in the ZT folder because your work can cause ZT problems until the work is complete. As for loading time, that depends on the computer. In my case, APE loads within a few seconds.
