I would like to introduce you to Zoo Tek, a well established site with lots of friendly people. We have a vast information base for ZT1 and ZT2 as well as the world around us. Also lots of ZT 1 downloads.
If you tire from ZT you can always chat with members, play a game either in the arcade or in Posts Gone Wild, learn a new recipe, or share your gardening tips

I would like to take this opportunity to announce our two ZT1 contests for August.
Mystery Date: Your mission: To build a small zoo with your mystery date...before you meet them!
Sceenshot contest: City by The Sea - build a city by water.
Also Missy is hosting a ZT2 contest: Endangered Animal Babies

Not sure where to post this so I'll try here and hope I don't offend anybody :)

Anybody here a member of Zoo-Tek? I want to enter their current contest but I'm not recieving the validation email and my emails to the forum admin is not being answered. Any help/advice would be appreciated. I'm loving ZT2 and I'd like to become more active in all the forums and contests (I love a challenge).

Thanks again :)

September ZT1 Zoo Contest hosted by Brandi

All right folks, this months contest is brought to you by the letters MM!

I have never been fortunate enough to see Sea World, or anything even close. This month I would like you to build me a spectacular Showcase Zoo. That's right, this means I want you to at least have one working and profitable show exhibit.
Since tanks sometimes need to be large and you will need space for you grandstands, you may use a MM medium sized map.
I only want to see MM animals!  You MUST have 10 exhibits at least.

More details including allowable creatures Here (http://www.zoo-tek.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=4740&hl=)

September ZT1 Screenshot hosted by Savannahjan

September is National Save the Tiger Month, so in honor of this beautiful and endangered animal, our September screenshot contest theme will be:
Show Me Your Stripes!
Create a screenshot showcasing tigers. We will have two categories for these shots: Zoom In (close up shots) and Zoom Out (panoramic views). You may enter both categories as many times as you like.
More info Here (http://www.zoo-tek.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=4744&hl=)

September ZT2 Contest hosted by Zoo Tycoon Gold and Zoo Tek

Biomes is the theme.
You need to use a small map and include your best exhibit for a different animal from each biome. You can only exhibit one species per biome.

Zootek Is Moving!

At the end of this post you will find the URL to the new site. Yes, I said new site. It is our future. It is on a whole new server. We purchased and installed all the software, including the software for the ZTNE and Brains Trust. It is still a work in progress, but we have moved all of the most important stuff to the new site already. The new site will be everything you already love about Zootek, but with a whole lot more added. There are plans for a brand new website to go with the forums.

These changes are being made to better our ability to serve our members, and the ZT community as well.

I hope you will join us in our new journey.

Latest download is the Lions Pride Pack made to anounce the Lions Pride Club.

We've now taken the Zoo Tek Nature Encyclopedia through two versions. Each time it gets better. We are now on version 3!

You can now group the topics together & we are rebuilding from new. Starting with the mammals, & working in alphabetical order, we are adding wild, domestic & extinct animals bit by bit. You can actually see them here

http://www.zoo-tek.com/forums/index.php?act=idx (http://www.zoo-tek.com/forums/index.php?act=idx)

If you check the link for ZTNE. Come & see whats back, we have all the wild, domestic & prehistoric bovines, camels & deer listed.

Also the Nature Encyclopedia now has all the Artiodactyla, all of the known living & extinct whales, porpoises & dolphins. Every breed of dog recognised by the British & American Kennel clubs and a few that aren't completing all domestic dogs and all prehistoric dogs have been done too. All the big cats & their hybrids  have now been added.
This is a great resourse for designers making animals so come take a look.

"We've been busy on the Zoo Tek Nature Encyclopedia today.Firstly, the core of the domestic cat breeds are now listed. There are some beautiful animals listed there.

In addition,we've added all the prehistoric cat genera. Not all the cat like families ,we will be tidying up the extinct Carnivora once we've added all the living families. These are the extinct members of the family Felidae! (We have a rule that unless it is a mammal made extinct by man we don't include anything below genus level.)

Just to give you an idea about animal classification,a genus is a group of similar species;Domestic cats,& similar species are genus Felis,Lions, tigers etc are genus Panthera!.

Here endeth your zoology lesson.Come & take a look,& if you know of a cat breed we ain't covered point us in the direction of the information!

A small announcement

If you visit Zoo Tek regularly you will have noticed that the Nature Encyclopedia has been unavailable for a few weeks. This is because of conflicts between the forum software & the Encyclopedia software which we have been unable to resolve.

However,in order not to lose this valuable resource we have taken the step of creating a seperate site for the Encyclopedia,on a server located away from the Zoo Tek server.

Those of you who managed to see the new layout before the IT problems will be glad to hear that we will be retaining the format we had, with seperate guides for each type of animal;our intention is to reproduce as many of the features we had at the old Zoo Tek site but to present them to you in a more orderly fashion.

The Encyclopedia will be back up in a day or two.

Now we also need to let you know what we intend,& if anyone out there in the ZT Community wishes to help they would be more than welcome. Our own ambition is to list all the vertebrate animals ,& we have enough sources of information on anthropology & geology to keep us going for a while to come. After all,we've listed all the known living mammals twice over,& birds & reptiles once already!

We'd like to have a section on plants,so if there are any budding botanists out there who would like some input let us know. And if we have any astronomers who would fancy having an astronomy guide, then please come forward.

Well....

We've got our Encyclopedia more or less to the stage we had ZTNE v3 at before the software fouled up.

And updates will continue.

All the known living placental mammals, save the rodents, the insectivores & the bats, are now shown, including scientific name. All of the domestic mammals, save the domestic rodents.

At present we do not have this in the new version but we do have listings for almost all of the prehistoric mammals before the marsupials as well as most of the prehistoric marsupials.

As to the wild mammals we have all the living carnivores, cetaceans, ungulates both odd & even toed, elephants, sea cows, hyraxes, lagomorphs, primates; just count out rodents, bats & insectivores.

We need to catch up on the prehistoric mammals. Our intention is to add a reference to every prehistoric mammal genus & an illustration. I don't intend to add prehistoric mammals where they have living representatives except in the case of very well known ones; cave bear, cave lion.

Once caught up, the Encyclopedia is going to be one of the finest resources for ANYONE in the Zoo Tycoon Community. We hope you will make good use of it!

Hup two three four
Keep it up two three four
Hup two three four
Keep it up two three four
Company sound off!

Ho, the aim of our patrol
Is a question rather droll
For to march and drill
Over field and hill
Is a military goal!
Is a military goal!

Hup two three four
Dress it up two three four
Hup two three four
Dress it up two three four

By the ranks or single file
Over every jungle mile
Oh we stamp and crush
Through the underbrush
In a military style!
In a military style!

Hup two three four
Keep it up two three four"

Now we don't usually quote Disney at you,but there aren't too many songs that we can think of about elephants. The reason elephants are on our minds is that we have just added all of the prehistoric proboscideans to the Nature Encyclopedia.

There are currently three living species of elephant, with zoologists debating the existence of a further two, pigmy species in Africa & Asia respectively;but there are also three hundred extinct species in the order.

As we promised,we have listed most of them by genus only, but we have added some of the better known Mammoth species.

Today's update for PPNE  :w00t

"Well, our researches for the Encyclopedia have revealed several more genera of extinct Pangolins, which we will be adding in the next few days.

However, the main point to this post is to introduce you to a couple of mammal groups you may or may not have heard of.

Lets start with the superorder Ferae.Broadly speaking these are the animals which zoologists define as being Carnivore like. This doesn't mean they all eat meat though. One of the orders in this group you will know, the Carnivora, already completed in our Encyclopedia. Those who like prehistoric mammals will doubtless know of the second member of the group, the Creodonta, the creodonts.

The third is not so familiar. It's the Cimolesta. These range from small insectivore like mammals to quite large creatures, but like the creodonts no cimolestids are living today.

The second new group to the Encyclopedia are members of the Ungulata, that vast assemblage of mammals which covers elephants, hyraxes, whales, odd & even toed ungulates as well as a curious assembly of other mammals (as if the ones we have already mentioned were not curious enough as it is!).Those who still play ZT1 may well use one of it's members, the Macruachenia,in their zoos.

Macrauchenia is the most famous of a group of extinct ungulates called the Litopterns. These too,are making an appearance in PPNE as I complete the listings of the larger placental mammals!

Click the link & take a look.

Back by popular demand, it's time to...

Get ready for your Mystery Date!

Ever heard the terms "The blind leading the blind", "Flying blind"  :cool or "Turning a blind eye"? Have you ever been on a blind date? Ever had a blind date that lasted for a whole month?  In honor of Valentine's Day, all our friends at ZA are cordially invited to join in the fun for the ZooTek February individual zoobuilding contest;

 :wub Mystery Date :wub

Your mission: To build a small zoo with your mystery date...before you meet them! Zoobuilding partners will be chosen randomly and will not be revealed until the contest results are announced. For those of you who did not participate in the Mystery Date contest last August, you may be wondering how we are going to manage that....well, join in and you'll find out!

If you are interested in taking part in this fun contest, please send me a PM, along with a valid e-mail address.

NOTE: Please do not volunteer to take part in the contest unless you can commit to build half of a small zoo with your mystery partner. We must have at least 6 contestants to stage this contest. Pairings will begin on February 1st, or when we have a sufficient number of contestants.

Get ready for your Mystery Date!

Hi everyone!  I just realized I didn't specify if this was a ZT1 or ZT2 contest (Thanks, Yellowrose!).  We ran this contest last August for ZT1 only and it was so much fun!  We had by far our best contest participation ever.  But many people now focus primarily on ZT2.  I have decided that we will also offer the contest for ZT2 if we get at least 6 people to participate.  We already have 10 ZT1 players so pairings will begin today.

Hope you will join in the fun! :D

Today's Nature News is now posted at Zoo Tek

PLUS

Well,I just added the Red Kangaroo to PPNE.You can find it in PP's Guide to Mammals.

Big deal,I hear you cry, you've added loads of mammals to PPNE.What makes the Red Kangaroo any different?

Well, the simple fact that I have now been working solidly on PPNE since December 2005;five months more or less. Now if you've been around the ZT community for a while,as I have, you will know that PP's Nature Encyclopedia was preceded by two versions known as the Zoo Tek Nature Encyclopedia;both listed every known living wild mammal.

The reason I mention this is,with the addition of the Red Kangaroo,PPNE too lists every known living wild mammal.(If any more are discovered,& three species have been, two monkeys, one rodent since I began this project I'm expecting more to be found.I will add them as information becomes available!)

BUT

In addition PPNE contains a comprehensive listing of the domestic mammals too.

The greatest difference between ZTNE & PPNE is that PPNE also includes a VERY comprehensive listing of the extinct mammal genera,ZTNE NEVER had this.Again,if more extinct mammals are discovered I will add them in as well!

This means you can now browse 10,981 listings in PP's Guide to Mammals, which I can confidently say is one of the most comprehensive mammal websites anywhere on the Internet!

Please come & take a look :D

Hi, all. I have just heard from Crazy Turtle. Please see his message below:

Something has gone really wrong. I am working to correct the problem. It may take a couple of days to fix. It was not hacked or anything like that, whatever went wrong is internal and was apparently caused by a corrupt file that I used. I am the source of disruption. Oops! The problem is really based in the download system, but it is causing problems everywhere. All of the downloads are safe, it is just a problem with the way the system itself functions. I may have to take the site offline to get this fixed. So sorry,
Crazy Turtle

While Tek is down I've continued work on PPNE.We've added all the typical owls of the family Strigidae,& two families of extinct owls. The scops owls alone took three days!

In addition I'm adding the suchians, the crocs & their relatives to the Reptiles guide.

Here's the poop on Zootek.

We had a problem within the downloads system that affected access and management. I was attempting to fix that problem when a problem came up which cascaded across the entire site by damaging the main database. In order to make repairs I have taken the site completely offline until sometime Monday the 22nd. I have to rebuild part of the database and some key areas of the site. The downloads are all completely safe. We may lose some of the more recent posts though. The site was not hacked in any way. I will get us back up shortly.

Thank you for your patience while I work to get us running again.

As we type this (it's almost 8.45pm British time) Tek is,unfortunately, still offline.I'm sure that as Crazy Turtle promised it will be back sometime today;after all,in New York it's 3.45 pm,in LA it's 12.45 & in Hawaii it's 9.45 am.

Many of you have popped in from all over the ZT Community, from Zoo Admin, from Zookeeper's lounge, from Zoo Tycoon Gold,& also form the link at Zoo Tek itself.Just over 2000 visits have been paid to PPNE since yesterday. It's nice to see this resource is being used by everyone major site in the community.

We have some more new stuff for you.For a start,in the Guide to Anthropology many more Australian Aboriginal Tribes have been added. We have data awaiting processing on the Maori Tribes as well,& eventually this section will even include the Scottish clans!

A few more biographies of Great Naturalists have been added,& in the special articles section complete lists of British Mammals & Birds have been added. As this is an international community & you want to see a bird or mammal list for your own country added let the compiler of PPNE know when Tek is back up.

Most of the work is going on with the Guide to Birds, with many wild parrots & domestic parrot colour varieties added.

In addition we are continuing to add prehistoric crocodiles as well.

Until Tek is back up,take a peek direct

Post by: CristiJaberJaws on May 23, 2006, 12:32:39 PM
Well, what have we been adding to PPNE today?

Firstly,we are still moving towards a complete listing of all the suchians, the crocodiles & their relatives,in the reptiles guide. As,compared to some reptiles, there are relatively few living species we're going to break our normal rule. What we've been doing with the reptiles so far is to only add the extinct ones, where there are no LIVING examples of that type left. When we added the Tuataras,as there were only two living species we added those in anyway. We will do the same with the living crocs.

In the meantime the evenings are currently taken up,as with the last few days, with adding parrots. There are many genera (plural of genus,a genus being a group of closely related species) of parrot which only had a few species;including the Grey Parrot,Psittacus, which gives the name to the entire family & order of birds. We've done a sweep of these smaller genera & added them tonight. The parrots are by no means finished,so please check in regularly.

We've added a few of the cockatiel colour varieties as well.

The last thing tonight is that we have also added all the known prehistoric parrots. In PPNE there is a rule that, unless the animal is well known, like the Cave Lion or the Dire Wolf,or recently extinct, then if the genus has living species the prehistoric one's aren't listed in PPNE.Well,we found precisely FOUR prehistoric parrots,in their own family, which we have added.

It seems that although Tek is still down you can visit PPNE via the link there. If you can then please click

Well, with Tek still being down work continues on PPNE.

Todays additions include 31 species of parrot across a range of types, from hanging parrots to grass parrots;& 25 domestic colour varieties of grass parrot. You can see these in PP's Guide to Birds. Most bird guides give you the wild birds,PP gives you the lot!We are hoping to add a piece on colour mutations in cage birds in due course!

In addition in Paul's guide to reptiles a further five prehistoric crocodile families make their appearance in PP's Guide to Reptiles, including the recently discovered one nicknamed Godzilla!

Well, unfortunately the main Tek site is still down, but as PPNE is unaffected, work still continues.New species of parrot continue to appear in the Guide to Birds, but what may be of more interest to you is the fact that the Guide to Reptiles now has a comprehensive listing of living & extinct alligators & caimans. In actual fact,Deinosuchus, which is commonly considered to be a crocodile,is more closely related to the American Alligator than it is to the Nile Crocodile.Designers for both ZT1 & ZT2 may well find some interesting crocodiles to make using the existing species.

Two important announcements ref PPNE today, both concerning the completion of two major animal groups.A complete listing of both prehistoric, domestic & parrots now appears in the Guide to Birds, including some hybrid macaws.

In the Guide to Reptiles,we have also completed the listings of the living & extinct crocodiles, alligators & their relatives.

The next groups to be tackled will be the tube nosed seabirds & we may possibly look at prehistoric amphibians as well.

Well, with our temporarysite up & running,we've spent today,a Bank Holiday in the UK,adding Honeyguides,Woodpeckers & Australian Aborigine tribes to PPNE.It's been to dull to do much outside, typically British summer weather! It's about 4.15 p.m. here,so we will add a few more tonight.

Now many people visit Tek for the downloads & although the main site is down, the downloads are all safe.Because of the limited amount of space we have at the site we cannot make the downloads available there.

However, Fern has kindly volunteered to list the various ZooTek downloads by category. If you need any of these downloads, please PM one of the staff. Be sure to include your e-mail address in your PM, as we have very limited space here on this temporary forum. We will try to get the downloads you need out to you as soon as possible.

Just to be clear, send your e-mail address in a private message (PM) only. For your own protection, please don't list your e-mail address publicly .

BOOBIES! BOOBIES! BOOBIES! BOOBIES!:blushing:

There. Now I have your attention (for whatever reason),I am pleased to announce that work on PPNE is proceeding smoothly. In the guide to Amphibians we are adding the Temnospondyls bit by bit.

The guide to birds is of interest. As you know we are adding the Pelicans & their relatives at the moment. This evening we've added a few of the prehistoric types, you may find the Penguin Boobies of interest,& all the living gannets & boobies are now listed as well.
I've added all of the living & prehistoric cranes to ppne,as well as the trumpeters, the kagu & several extinct relatives. There's no Nature News today,so go take a look!

http://www.ppne.co.uk/

Hope to see you all soon!

"I just noticed it's been a week since I updated you on the progress of the Nature Encyclopedia over at Zoo Tek.

What's been added?

Well, more of the Australian Aborigine Tribes are now listed,& we have more biographies of Great Naturalists.

A lot of the work in the last week has been on PP's Guide to Birds. He's finished adding the Gruiformes, the cranes & their relatives, including the extinct ones.Did you know Phorusrhacos was related to the coots you see on your local ponds? Come over & take a look!

The other big group of birds he's been working on are the Galliformes, the game birds,& here we have added details of domestic, living, extinct & hybrid species,so far we have completed the pheasant, grouse, turkey & quail families,we have the curassows & the megapodes to do,& also some interesting prehistoric families which have no living representatives to add.

In PPl's Guide to Amphibians he is still adding the Temnospondyls,a group whicj is now completely extinct. There are several which rather resemble crocodiles now listed!

Well,as the link is still down at Tek,take a look here

http://www.ppne.co.uk/index.php.

HOWEVER

Work is still going on to get Tek back & better than ever.As I type Tek staff are beavering away to rebuild the arcade & the download areas,& already many of the wonderful creations made by Tek designers are once more available for download.

Today's Nature News is also posted,so please use this link

http://www.zoo-tek.com/forums/

To enjoy all these!"

Again it's been a good few days since an update on both Tek & PPNE.

The arcade continues to grow, new games are still being added.

Today's Nature News is also posted, for both of those click here

http://www.zoo-tek.com/forums/

Now the direct link to PPNE has not yet been restored,so for the time being we will continue to post direct links. In our last post I mentioned that all the known domestic, extinct & living game birds had been added.Well, firstly,in the Guide to Birds we've done the same for the waterfowl, including some VERY interesting hybrids. There is even a Whooper X Mute Swan there.

All of the living bustards are now in PPNE.This is a group of old world birds, found in grassland habitats across Europe,Asia & Africa, living lifestyles not dissimilar to the pheasants you see on open ground.

All the living puffbirds are now in PPNE.This is a group of birds, formerly grouped with the woodpeckers & toucans, now given their own grouping.
There are no known fossil species.

All the Jacamars are now in PPNE .These are South American birds which greatly resemble kingfishers but are not closely related.Again there are no fossils known.

In The Guide to Amphibians,we've added all the Temnospondyls. The only group we haven't touched is the Lissamphibia, which houses the modern species.

the Guide to Fish is now open, with a few prehistoric species listed.

Three new things today over at Zoo Tek

Firstly,todays Nature News is posted.

Secondly ,there are a few changes in PPNE.

We've made a couple of alteratations to the mammal section today, based on the latest genetic research. The Southern & Northern White Rhinos are now treated as seperate species, the Wild Bactrian camel is split from the Domestic one,& there are new species of recently discovered mouse & tree kangaroo added.

In the bird section we've added all the kingfishers, most of the hornbills & a newly discovered species of parrot.

Thirdly,in the Zoo Tek University we have reopened the Zoo Tycoon Brains Trust.Long standing members of the ZT Community may remember this,it was a listing of the animals from ZT1 & suggested animals to make for them. Many of the animal downloads at Tek were based on idea's in the Brains Trust.

What we are now doing is to rebuild the Brains Trust bit by bit;but rather than have long lists of animals as we did before,we are suggesting groups of animals which could be made,& linking you into the relevant pages of PPNE so you can pick the animals for yourself.

Take a look

This contest will be open to everyone with a deadline of August 31st.

The theme is "Show Me Some Shell"

The special guest judge for this contest will be me, Crazy Turtle. I want to see your very best turtle/tortoise screenshots. Have a favorite turtle exhibit? How about an entire turtle themed area of your zoo? Or maybe you snapped a picture of the shelled one(s) just being goofy? I am making this a screenshot contest so that you can use any downloads, from any site! Send the screenshots all to webmaster@thecrazyturtle.com

There will be a winner selected from ZT1 and a winner selected from ZT2.

And here is the best part =>
I will be awarding the winners with a custom title of their choice, to be displayed under their name on the forums. To see what I mean just go to any thread I have posted in and look under my name. You will see that it says "Shelled Wonder". Your choice will show up right there. Of course the choice you make will have to meet the approval of the Admins.

So let's get those shots in, "Show Me Some Shell"!

We also have several new downloads, including 2 new fabulous bears by Ghirin.

As always, nature news and more from PP.

Well, what have we been up to over at Tek?

Well,we have a whole section for November,Novembertek, with articles relating to the month of November. In the US you finish the month with Thanksgiving,we start it with Guy Fawkes Night.

There are a whole load of recipes for those who like cooking including a host of good British recipes & you can find these here.

There is also more Memorably Bad Music for you to enjoy in Posts Gone Wild,& a new topic on animal sounds with links to some amazing recordings in Member Chat.

As ever, there is the latest Nature News from around the world,& a whole section for animal webcams, where you can watch animals live.

PPNE contnues to grow & celebrates it's first anniversary at the end of November .It's been ages since we updated you on it,so rather than list what has been added, let's look at what hasn't.It's easier.

At the moment we are working on the Guide to Birds. It's going very well.In fact as of today there are only TWO bird families which remain to be added!

Come & see!

Well, Zoo Tek Evolved is, unfortunately, still down, but life continues.
Our back up site, which you can find here : ZooTek Travelling (http://z4.invisionfree.com/Zoo_Tek_Travelling/index.php?act=idx) has filled up quite nicely,& there are lots of interesting topics to look at.
If you are looking for a particular Tek download, let us know & we will do our best to get it to you.

We’ve also posted today’s Zoo & Nature News, more memorably Bad music & if you fancy a spot of cookery, Roman style, we have some interesting Roman recipes.

Tek will be Tek, the location is irrelevant!!!

A little up-date from Prof Paul : bounce:

Here's the new one

It's about a week since I got around to telling you what's going on at Tek.

Well, firstly, we have our arcade back, thanks to Pepe Starr & Dizzy.
We've opened a Christmas section, including a special section on bad seasonal music (you have not lived until you've heard Bette Davis sing Feliz Navidad!) & work has started on our novel.

Come & add something.

There's more Bad Music in it's usual home, & we've added some more links to animal calls, you can find those all in Professor Paul's Study.

PPNE continues to grow. Since our last update, we have added the basilisks (Corytophanidae ), the collared lizard (Crotaphytidae ), the clubtails ( Hoplocercidae ), the iguanas  Iguanidae), the Madagascan Iguanas (Opluridae), the North American Spiny Lizards (Phrynosomatidae) & most of the Anoles (Polychrotidae)

All of this wonderful stuff can be found if you join us here.

Another update from the Prof:

We are still busy at Tek for Christmas, hopefully in the New Year we can get a more permanent site set up.

In the last two weeks I've still been busy on PPNE,server problems meant we lost some files & had to re enter them. All the lost stuff has been restored,& there is a load of new stuff in there. You can now find all the anoles, the known living & extinct ground lizards from S America, the worm lizards, the glass lizards, the alligator lizards & the monitors.Next up I'm going to start on the snakes!

|n addition we've managed to track down a copy of the Zoo Tycoon Brains Trust, the original database for potential ZT animals. We thought this was lost when we moved the site in Sept 2005,we also lost ZTNE then as well. Many of the Tek downloads were from ideas I posted in there,& some may well apply to ZT2!

Come & say Merry Christmas, sign up if you haven't.

http://s4.invisionfree.com/Zoo_Tek_Travelling/

And now, a word from our sponser...Oh, I mean, a little something from me! :D

We have a slew of new downloads available for the season, including new fences, paths, conifers, a Nativity set, new animals and I highly recommend Brandi's new Tek Town series of downloads, they are just beautiful!  The downloads can be found here:

http://z4.invisionfree.com/Zoo_Tek_Travelling/index.php?showforum=72

Great changes are coming, and we hope you'll all join us in our endeavors!

And more from the Prof:

Just a little update,more on PPNE rather than the whole of Tek;

If you check it out, you’ll find most of the boas & pythons listed. There are a couple of smaller families to do,but the better known ones are now shown.

There’s also a new ichthyosaur added

Take a look

An update from Paul on the 19th (sorry I missed it!)

Well, today is my last day at work until 8/1/7 (I'm changing jobs) & I have a lot more spare time,so PPNE should grow quite quickly.

We've now completed the main python family (Boidae) & added a couple of extinct marine reptile families. There's also a new icthyosaur, two new dinosaurs & three new living species of lemur listed! In addition all the prehistoric pythons & boas are now in PPNE (this is all new stuff, none of ut was ever in the various versions of the Zoo Tek Nature Encyclopedia). You'd be surprised where some of these were found.

You can find the asian pipe snakes, the mexican burrwing pythons, the dwarf boas & some of the shieldtail snakes in PPNE.

You can get at PPNE here

Exciting Holiday Happenings at Zoo Tek!  Today we have new downloads for both ZT1 and ZT2.

First off, the ZT2 addition.  We have a new reindeer variant done by Animalover - now you can have Rudolph the Reindeer in your zoo!

Next up are the ZT1 additions!  Ghirin has made TEN new animals!  They are:
1. The Persian onager (Equus hemionus onager or E. onager) is one of the wild equines found in Asia. This animal is well adapted to dry habitats such as scrub, desert, and dry steppes.
2.  Xenosmilus ("Strange knife") is a relatively newly described genus of saber-toothed cat.  It was a heavily built feline approximately the size of a lion. The upper canine teeth were relatively short and broad.
3. Aegyptopithecus was an early hominid that lived in what is now modern day Egypt. At that time, Egypt was much more wet and humid.
4. The genus Attenborosaurus was named in honor of British naturalist Sir David Attenborough. Its fossils were found in Europe and were originally classified as a species of Plesiosaurus. (a Marine Mania animal)
5. Barbourofelis fricki ("Barbour's Cat") was a lion-sized member of the genus Barbourofelis from the family Nimravidae. Even though Barbourofelis strongly resembled the saber-toothed cats, the nimravids are no longer considered to be true felines due to distinct anatomical differences and are sometimes referred to as paleo-sabers or false saber-toothed cats.
6. Dryopithecus fontani was the European species of Dryopithecus. Other remains of Dryopithecus species have been found in Africa. This fossil ape was present in Europe during the Miocene era.
7. Griffon vultures (Gyps fulvus) are large birds related to eagles and hawks. They are social birds and are usually found in groups.
8. Gyrfalcons (Falco rusticolis) is the largest species of falcon. This falcon is native to the arctic regions of the world. The color of the plummage is variable, with populations in Greenland and Iceland having the palest feathers.
9. The name Mbielu-mbielu-mbielu means "the animal with planks growing out of its back." This cryptid is from the Likouala swamp region of the Republic of Congo. The exact nature of Mbielu-mbielu-mbielu is unknown. Some think that it is similar to a stegosaur while others think that the cryptid is snake-like.
10. Protoceratops ("Before the horned-faces") is well known from numerous skeletons, ranging from young animals to adults. It was a common dinosaur from Cretaceous Mongolia.
