I'm having trouble breeding my Okapis and I need help. I'm on the Endangered Species zoo and I have allowed them a year to breed but they haven't yet. Can anyone help me?

the beast advice I can give you is to go to Wisco's site and look at his Exhibit suitablity guide for the Okapi and adjust their exhibit. If the exhibit suitability and their happiness is not high enough they may not breed.

Wisco's Site can be found HERE

Thank you yellowrose. I'll try going there this week and then try out the tips and maybe then my Okapis will finally breed.

I had 2 okapis in a mixed exhibit with mountain gorillas, chimps and lemurs. They bred in two months.

I have found the best way  to breed Okapi's is to have 1 male and 2 females in a 100% suitable exhibit. I have not had trouble since I have taken that approach :)  I leave about 5 windows only for guests to view them as they are quite shy.

For that matter, if you're really having trouble and aren't too low on $ to try it, you might build the okapis an exhibit far away from the guests, so they really have complete privacy.  Keep a close eye on their needs and their happiness, and drop a zookeeper in their out-of-the-way exhibit whenever any of the above get low or their exhibit needs food or cleaning.

OTOH, it could just be bad luck that they're not breeding in the available time.  If that's so, you should just save the game as soon as all your endangered species are provided with suitable exhibits, and keep on re-running it from that point on, until chance dictates that they all breed before time runs out.

But there are no lemurs in ZT1.  ;) Unless it was a user created animal. Anways thanks everyone for the tips. I'll see if those work and post the results.

There is in fact 2 user created lemurs that I know of, both available here in our downloads sections.  And they do work well in the mixed exhibits.

As for the Okapis, in freeform games I give them a larger exhibit with only 5 or 6 viewable fence pieces for the guests.  In the scenario, I usually either lower the exhibit so guests can look down or wall it off completely.  You can get the guest happiness up in other ways, so it's not as important that guests see them.

100% suitability for an okapi should be:

85% rainforest floor
10% grass
5% dirt
1% large rock
20% rainforest bush (if thats what they are called, it should be their favorite foilage)

Thanks everyone.  B) I think that's everything I need to make the Okapis breed. Oh and Extinctsaurus your post doesn't help me at all so don't post unless you have a suggestion.

I would say between AK and Rotipher everything needed was said. Privacy is so important to the okapis and random luck plays a large part in whether they breed. Same can said for the giant pandas. If a pair doesn't breed try replacing them with another pair and lots of times that somehow works. This game perplexes me on that matter. I know how the system works for cycling through and if the okapis are happy at the right time then an okapi baby will be born, but I've also placed two new okapis and had a baby immediately as well.
