Elevation Tips

Here are three great tips on making beautiful zoos

Underground Tank:
_Make a tank and use the square elevation tool to pull terrain down to the base of the tank.

_Then use the hill tool and pull down terrain to equal the base.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v655/Kigertaru/Zoo086.jpg

_Go up two squares on the hill you made and pull down to make flat. Do this until you reach level land. ((you can also just make stairs going directly to the floor.))
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v655/Kigertaru/Zoo087.jpg

_Put your pathway in
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v655/Kigertaru/Zoo089.jpg

_And level out the edges of your stairs
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v655/Kigertaru/Zoo090.jpg

_Add your sea life

_Use the hill tool and pull to the bottom of your new exhibit floor
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v655/Kigertaru/Zoo094.jpg

_Cut off extra
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v655/Kigertaru/Zoo095.jpg

_Add fencing ((put higher fencing for lower level))
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v655/Kigertaru/Zoo096.jpg

_Add animal
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v655/Kigertaru/Zoo097.jpg

_Add Path

I know, Zt2 is very difficult for me to use when in comes to elevation. Zt1 is more grid like so it's easier

Those are good. For the second one, I just leave the path up. I don't sink part of it down so the guests can see better. But I use low fencing, so the animals would escape if I did that.

I like the third design. I need to try that.

Here is a more extensive Guide to building Observation guides

1. Select the hill elevation tool form your elevation menu and start by rising one square so it looks like this Click Here

2. Once your cursor is on top of the raised square move two spaces ahead and raise twice like this Click Here

3. Repeat the above step on the x2 raised square now you should have one at x1, x2, and x3 like this Click Here

4. (You will need to clean up you edges by cutting it down to a signal path way). Then we need to add the observation platform to do this we will go to the highest point and make two squares at the same height protrude from the edge then add the same thing on the left and right of the protruding edge you end result should look like this Click Here

5. Add a fence for you observation platform like this Click Here

6. Add the animals exhibit below for the guests to view like this Click Here

7. Now add a path way to walk on your platform but leave a space on the platform like this Click Here

8. Add some art work to increase visitation to your platform I chouse a statute like this Click Here

9. Add in your animal (look I have guests) like this Click Here

10. Decorate to your liking Example: Click Here

Thanks for the ideas!

Quick question: Other than beautifying the zoo for you, the zoomaker, and making it more realistic looking, do observation decks, etc. do anything for guest happiness or zoo rating? I'm just wondering if there is an added bonus to using these techniques.

When an observation area (or viewing area as I like to call them) is well decorated with foliage, flowers, fountains or statues, your guests will think things like "This area is very lovely" or "Look at all the pretty flowers". As to how much it will increase your zoo rating percentage wise I have no clue!  So you're right about it pleasing the builder more, but it does help a bit with guest happiness and rating. :blushing:
