Title: A long time ago, not so far far away....
Post by: LadyZookeeperNY on October 01, 2006, 08:33:31 AM
Dateline: October 2001---Microsoft Games together with Blue Fang Games releases a unique type of simulation game called Zoo Tycoon. Players are able to build their own dream zoos, adopt animals, and become Zoo Tycoons! Well, that was the "hype" anyway. Almost overnight fansites started popping up based on the game, and before you knew it, people were beginning to understand the programming of the game so they could make their own items for it!!

A couple of ingenious guys got together and started a little place called ZooAdmin. The founding member, as we understand it, was RedPhoenix, and soon EagleOne joined him, in maintaining the site. AussieKoala and Lowenfrau weren't far behind, and together this group of talented and inspired individuals become the core members and designers for ZA. It didn't take very long before ZA started to grow by leaps and bounds, especially when its main competitor, Tycoon Resource, closed in October 2002.

2002 saw Microsoft/Blue Fang release some very important things: an official American Flag as a tribute to the events of 9/11; some fancy buildings; a patch to fix a programming glitch with the guest happiness and the maintenance workers.....and Dino Digs in May! You talk about dino frenzy.....my goodness everyone was clammering for dino info and new items for their zoos! EagleOne and crew did their best to keep up with the demands of the new expansion pack for ZA members, and the forums became a meeting place for discussion and picture postings!!

But wait....what's this?? Another expansion pack?? YES, it's Marine Mania, released in October 2002 and combined with the previous DD release. Well what you can say...the site exploded with new members, designers, creators, and tons of excitement! But we were about to see some staff changes too....EagleOne retired and handed the reigns over to AussieKoala and Lowenfrau. These two ladies labored with love over the site for quite a long time, providing us with great new items, building groups, designing groups, keeping the contests going and making them so much fun. Other staff changes were on the horizon, too numerous to mention (and I can't remember all of them anyway  ).

2003 and it's time for Complete Collection...complete, as in no more ZT1?? Oh no :fear2:  , it just can't be!!! Aahhhh, but MS/BF have something else up their sleeves....

Here comes ZT 2 in 2004, and talk about an explosion..WOWSERS!!! New members were joining at a rate of about 25 per day during the first year of ZT2's release. The site grew by leaps and bounds, with new ZT 2 forums becoming THE place for fans and players to meet and share ideas, strategies, and ask questions about the game.  Oh no---here come the expansion packs---Help!!! Endangered Species and African Adventures create even more excitement. Our designers are determined to figure out how to make user items for ZT 2. They are successful in some areas, so now we have even more forums and goodies for our members. New ZT 2 building groups were recently created, and those groups will be showcasing their building efforts later in the month.

ZA has been proud to be able to be a part of this exciting game franchise through the insight and willingness to grow with the game by our Administrators and Moderators. Many of the changes you have seen have been done to make our site one of the premier sites available to anyone with an internet connection. Our rules may be strict at times, but for us to be able to keep our A+ rating for all ages, sometimes we have to be the bad guys!

Please feel free to share your favorite good memories of our site, whether it's a pic, story, or a special friendship you've made here. For anyone who has been a member from the beginning (or close to it) let us know about our past Administrators who worked so hard to get us started. Their past contributions are essential to our future success. I'll be back another day with a story of how a lowly lady became an Admin without knowing about :queen: it!

Well I can't really share any memories of the site, as I have only been here a few weeks! But that 'potted history' was very interesting, thank you, LZKNY. I had no idea ZA had been around such a long time. Shame those founder members aren't around now.....

As for becoming an admin without knowing it, that sounds like a good read....: :) :

The only memory I have to share I that when I first came here not TOO long ago, I was scared to death, because I have been on some other forums( which I have quit) where everyone was rude and nasty and constantly swore( and I HATED it:angry: )  So when I came here, I was pretty nervous, but I soon found out that you all were inviting, friendly, and courteous, and made me feel comfortable right away.  So I just want to thank all the members, mods, and admins who made me feel a part of this site.: :) : Thanks everyone!!:IloveZA:

Happy 5th Anniversary ZA, and hopefully many more to come.

I have so many memories of this site. I have made countless friends--you know who you are, and endless <3s and *hugs* to you, you guys are all awesome. =D
Some of the friendships I have made on the wonderful MSN messenger would be with quite a bit of the staff (scary, yes...unaproachable? no! =0), some of whom I knew before they were staff...members that have left (although THATS a long story >.<), etc. I look forward to staying at ZA for as long as I can.

Well, I joined years ago, and I have loved it.  There were so many great downloads.  I haven't been around lately, as I broke rules and harmed the Zoo Admin system.  I'm very sorry for that, because I like Zoo Admin, I really do.  I wasn't trying to harm anything, but present a joke not thinking it would cause any harm, but anyway it's a great zoo tycoon experience.  Anyone who has Zoo Tycoon should join.  No one can compete with Zoo Admin.  No one.  This place is the best feel for ZT2, and I think it always will be.  Thanks to the creators and admins who created this forum and that run it today, and thanks for the harsh rules.  If the rules weren't harsh, Zoo Admin may not have lasted as long as it has, because of people like me who harmed it in the past.

lol I have quite a few. But the reason that I'm still here is all thanks to Koala Komander.  Ever since I met her in May, we've been very good friends since we found out we live in like the same area (neighboring cities)
I got into designing for ZT2 thanks to cleesburg and penguinman.  Penguinman showed me pretty much everything I need to know and more so thanks you two!!

Edit:  Aint it funny how I joined in April 2006 and I still have very few posts? lol

I've only been a member of this site since about early spring, but it's been great the whole time!: :) : I've always liked how friendly and helpful everyone here is. My favorite memories are from all the excitement and buzz caused by the announcement of AA, DD, and MM2 back in march, all the excitement and suspense! I'd just like to give a big thanks to all the past and present mods, admins, and designers who have helped to make zoo admin what it is today.:IloveZA:

BTW: thanks for the cool history LadyZookeeperNY

Now grab a seat and hunker down children. I've been in the community since DD came out (I was about , what? 8-ish , yeah that sounds about right). However I didn't join ZA for a couple of years later.

Now , it all started at Zookeeper's Lounge . I suspect I was one of the most obnoxious members there :whistling  . I had so many hopes and dreams . I even remember making a topic saying that I was goign to make a movie... Well , time went by . My spelling didn't get much better   . Well one day I realized I wasn't playing ZT as much and thought it would be best if I left . Children , let me tell you , NEVER DO THAT . That was the day I was banned , but thats a story for another day :sweatingb .

Well , time went by I joined here the following year. However , back at ZKL they had a massive rehaul with a new skin and all and for about 3 days all banned members were unbanned . I went straight to the general diccussion and apologized and told the little story of how I intended to leave but decided not to. While the mods said they understood the admins decided to reban me: :( : . A year or so later I emailed the admins and asked to be unbanned . They said they would think about it , yet I've never gotten a reply. Now they have deleted all old accounts but left me banned forever disallowing me from joining.

Meanwhile , through all of this drama I was a welcomed part fo the ZA community . Back then , children we had something called, what was it , freedom of speech. Some of my friends from teh interwebs left while few remained. Then it happened. The RI revolution ( I love saying that). The show Animal Face-off was released and many members were creating topics based on that show . However, they took it a little too far and used one topic for every face-off.

Eventually this got out of hand and the admins decided to cancel every topic accept the popular ones ( word assosciation , stupid question/answer , etc.) and make a single topic for the Animal Face-off. We used to have many RPGs (Role-playing Games) going. Also we had one popular one that died in a purple smoke . Lets Start A Story. In there you would basically use yourself as a character in an RPG . Good times those were...

Some members (myself and a few friends) decided to make our own , free , Random Insanity websites. Afterall , what's Random Insanity if it isn't random? Well over time those died out and we spread apart. Some disappeared (RIP Buck whenevev- Aug 26 2004) . I miss you guys too much :crying: ...

Well around that time little dinwrest was blossoming into a fulfledged member . I don't actually think I've finished blossoming... I've also witnessed the rise and fall of Eagle One , Aussie Koala , Lowenfrau , the General Discussion Revolution , and the Computer Games Revolution. Been through reskins , revamps , and re-everythings! MAde too many friends to remember . Some I'm still in touch with . Some are long gone. There's the side of the story of ZA's history that too many aren't aware of from one of ZAs oldest non-staff members.

:IloveZA: :crying: You'll always remember friends . No matter who they are , or where you meet them.

most memorable moments:

1) this forum is where i found out about Steve Irwin's tragic death.  at first, i thought it was just a hoax, but then i went to google and found out it was true.  i was really devastated, because it was so incredibly sudden.

2) (a little more lighthearted) I rember back in the days before the shape of a model could be edited.  we were all so frustrated, and we wanted to make unicorns and the like.  And now, through the advance of technology and knowledge, a unicorn has been created!  That's pretty cool, if you ask me.

This was the first forum I ever posted in.  I was really nervous and didn't really know what to do.  I guess that's why my first posts were a QUADRUPLE post! : :P : Over the year that I have been a member of this site, I've learned a little, (like not to quadruple post, lol).  I check this site obsessively everyday, and I can't wait to continue that for a long time to come.

Thanks for the history Lady Z!  So many memories!

The reason I even came here is a memory in itself... I don't think I ever would have came here if Jens had not closed down ZTUnlimited. =0  (I don't know if thanks or disappointment are in order... : :P : )

Of course, becoming a mod has been great, and I've made so many friends here, you are all great!  No particular event really stands out in my mind, there's too many!

I was introduced to this wonderful game kind of late(Dec 2003). My nephew had a copy of Zoo Tycoon and I asked if I could borrow it to check out the game. I had watched the TV commercials for it and RCT 2 but had never really tried them. I brought his cd home and loaded it on the the system and played for about an hour. I got sooooo frustrated. He didn't have the manual that came in the box so I was just lost as to how to do anything beyond what the tutorial instructed. I left the game alone for about a week and then fired it up and again the frustration set in so i went looking for some info on the Microsoft site. Didn't find to much there and then spotted the fansite link so I checked it out and saw all these sites listed and started at the top which of course was ZA. I visited the others as well but came back to ZA for further investigation. I browsed the forum for about an hour and did a little reading then the cursed word caught my eye - yep - Downloads. yippee they have something that can help me I thought. Well I visited the downloads section to see what was afoot and 5 hours later....yes you read right 5 hours I downloaded. I got everything this site and a few others had to offer. I came back and read how to install them and use them ingame and then went and played the most enjoyable zoo...wish I still had that very first zoo but ...well...I went out abd purchased Zoo Tycoon Complete Collection and returned my nephew's cd to his care so he could someday regain interest.

After playing for 3 hours I came back to the site and joined. I figured it was the least I could do after downloading all the goodies I did, kind of a way to show my appreciation.

The first person I really met was Aussie Koala. She was the best and we became friends right away. We even got to playing a card game together off site on an almost daily basis. That frienship lead me to many other great people and over the last few years I have made some great friends including our resident Pesky Admin Texgnome who I consider to be one of my closest friends.

Not long after joining the site I discovered it was very easy for me to pick up the steps to simple designs and I started creating my own creations, then came a design team appointment, later moderator, Admin and now Network Admin.

There have been some great people involved with this site since it was first put online.

Founders
Ogre - Current Network CEO
Red Phoenix - Past Netwok Admin and one of the founding members of Ogresnet

Administratiors
Eagle One - one of the first site Admins
Loewenfrau - a great lady with beautiful design talents of her own
Aussie Koala - an inspiration to many of the older and past ZA members
Casey - a genius at programing and dll files
Texgnome1 - A pest, but a sweetheart with a few rough edges and the backbone of the current admin team
RedNotDead - our own private little devil or as many of your call her "The Evil Admin"
Bielski - A great friend and fellow admin who can always be counted on
Penguino - a real joker who keeps us laughing in staff on a daily basis
LadyZ - what can I say about this Checkerboard Queen - well first off her zoos arte to die for. She has a great talent for showing off animals.

And a very close friend who is so missed by so many of us - Spiderghost - his mapmaking skills are sorely missed and have not been surpassed by anyone. His talent is remarkable.

Thank you Eric and Jim for bringing Zoo Admin to it's current Ogresnet Home and giving us such a great site.

Thank you to EO, Loewenfrau and AK for building it up into a great community.

Thank you to all who have held staff positions and helped to keep ZA the family site it is.

And most important - thank you to all the members who make this site the most enjoyable experience anyone could have the pleasure of being a part of. You all make the work that goes into this site so very rewarding and worthwhile.

*Happy 5th Zoo Admin*

All you younglings here. I joined like two weeks after RND which was I think almost 3 years ago and before that I was following the forums for about a year. I remember doing community zoo and having trouble attaching a zoo to an e-mail. xD I remember getting JPSP and looking up a few animal tutorials and getting into making animals. Then Sideshowbob asked me to be a designer in ZTCenter. I remember making the Otter and Reptile pack with And1 and African Raptor. You guys were the best friends in the ZT community. Then ZT2 came out and I started looking things up and shared it with the design team and we started working on creating ZT2 animals. We put together the APE 2 tutorial and now thats where we are at now. ZA is the best community ever. ^^ :IloveZA:

edit: wow Yellowrose you type fast. Your post wasn't there when I hit add replay. xP maybe i shouldn't watch TV, listen to music, and post at the same time.

I've been playing ZT since I was nine years old. I got the game as a Christmas gift and soon tried to play it, unfortunately I has a hard time working the controls and quickly became frustrated. After a couple of days of endlessly playing Zoo Tycoon I finally got the hang of it and since then I've been hooked. About a week or so after getting the game I went over to my best friend house. She immediately rushed me up to her computer to show me the "cool" new game she got for Christmas. I ran after here until we reached her computer desk. And guess what? There was the Zoo Tycoon case laying open by her monitor. For the next two years we would go over to each others houses and swap design ideas and complain about how hard such and such a scenario was. My interest in the game began languished until the release of DD and eventually MM, however by the time they were released my friend and I no longer got along but I still enjoyed the game. MM and DD's magic also began to run out. I played the game less and less and eventually only played monthly at most, that was until *drum roll please* I heard about the up coming release of ZT2.

I bought Zoo Tycoon 2 the first day it came out in stores and once again played daily. With the release of ES my interest in the game grew stronger. I found myself browsing the net searching for downloads for ZT2 and up pops a link to some site called "Zoo Admin". I checked out the downloads and began the task of  trying to figure out how to get them in the game. In my search I stumbled upon the forums, although I didn't have any more interest in them then to figure out how to get those darned dls on my computer:laughing:. I did solve my problem thought and regularly downloaded stuff afterwards. I continued just downloading stuff until  one day out of curiosity I decided to just surf the forums. I mean why not I might get some cool new ideas right? Well, through all my browsing the thought of joining became more and more tempting until one day I finally gave into the pressure and registered.

After that I began more and more to enjoy the site and found myself getting quite addicted to it. One day I say a notice on the main page about the site needing two new mods. Since I'd always harbored an interest in being a mod I sent a PM to Yellowrose (well at least I think it was her) saying I'd be interesting in the position. I didn't get the job however so I dumped the idea then and there despite saying I'd still be interested if the opportunity ever came up. Some time later I got a PM from Texgnome. I opened it and to my complete shock found that it was asking me if I still wanted to be a mod. I said yes of course although I still doubted I'd get the job since the PM didn't seem all to serious. I figured that I was just one of numerous people who had been asked about the position and that the admins just wanted to be sure all the possible candidates actually wanted the position. I signed on a bit later and was confused to see a numerous new buttons that hadn't been there before. I dismissed them as changes to the site and went on. I then checked back on a thread I'd previously had posted in and say my name was purple. "Purple" I though... "but that means I'M A MOD!" As you can imagine I was very excited but scared stiff at the same time. I'm still trying to learn the ins and out of being a mod today but still enjoy the site thoroughly.

Well, I'm actually not much with computers, never even owned one until Dec. 1999, and ZT is the about the only game I've ever really gotten into. I have a few RT strategy games that I play once in a great while, and of course I play the ever popular Deerhunter on occassion, but absolutely no simulation games (yawn). I'm usually more of a "hands on" kind of person, but this game looked fun and I decided I had to have it for Christmas 2001. Well, I had three months off of work in the spring of 2002 due to surgery and started playing around with APE. My first animal was the Arabian oryx, except when I put it in the game it was invisible! So I started searching and came across the Zookeeper's Lounge, and there was a tutorial on how to fix invisibility. So I opened it up and edited all the *.ani files by hand, and didn't make anything else for quite a while. Then this guy named Mark Bell made an invisibility fix program (Thank you, Mark!). And I started playing around with other things, and decided I enjoyed it. So I submitted the oryx at ZKL, since no one had yet released an Arabian oryx, and no one ever even acknowledged they received it, so I sent it to Eagle One, and got a response that it was accepted, and asking if I wanted to be a designer.

Towards the end of my tenure as a designer here, everybody started going to DSL and cable, and it would take forever to upload with my dial-up, even at 2:00 AM, if I could upload at all. So it became a regular ritual to email my items to Lowenfrau or Aussie Koala so they could be posted.

Had some personal issues and left the community for a while, then I moved and didn't have internet access for about six months. And here I am still putting away on the same 600 mHz computer, with a dial-up modem and Windows 98. Still doing things the old-fashioned way, with paint and a couple of photo editing programs, Mark Bell's Invisibility and Rotation Fix programs and a lot of patience. The telephone company finally got DSL out here in this section of the county (still no cable though), so I suppose maybe its time I get a new computer...and maybe I learn what kind of software people use these days!

Mngwa

P.S. I know it only shows I have 13 posts, but I have been around that long. I seem to have lost several hundred some where or another!

Well as for me, I joined early last year. I'd bought ZT1 after my Mum had got into it. We both (all the family in fact) love animals, so no surprise that I loved the game, and all the subsequent additions. Then someone I worked with told me you could get free downloads from websites (news to me!) so I 'googled' zoo tycoon downloads, and found ZA. Immediately hooked, I loved the way everyone was so friendly and helpful.

The big shock came earlier this year, when some foolish staff member decided I was worthy of a Mod post.....

I love ZA, being a Mod, ZT2, and all the great people I've met in the last 22 months!:bounce:

I lurked for ages before i acutally posted - i was so scared of making a mistake LOL.  My first downlaod i got from the site was the PK user scenerio (and of course all those cats).

Eventually I decided to make stuff and got to know people like Texgnome1 and Aussie Koala and through them Jay from ZKL who helped me with coding my first building for ZT1.

Then I was invited to become a Mod but Kes (AK) told me I had to learn to play Canasta to accept.  Ah the good old days of playing canasta with Kes, Frinkyman, Spiderghost and Yellowrose (Hey Tex I never did get a chance to play you).

Then ZT2 came out and i found i could also design for that game so started doing that as well.

there have been ups and downs - highs and lows with the site over the years but the good thing is at the end of the day we are still here and offer people the highest number of QUALITY downloads for both ZT1 and ZT2 and we hope to continue to do so for years to come.

Well, what can I say. I joined a few months ago after visiting this site for 2-3 years. I bought CC a month after it came out and then came zt2 and it's exp's. Over the time I have seen many downloads every day, seen new topics and posts evryday, and I try to be bigger than a tiny Iota in the zoo tycoon community. Ah, the years, so many changes, so many new Things every day.....

In short........

well, when I first got, zoo tycoon 1, I got frustrated and left it alone for a while. A few months later, I started playing it again, and started looking online for a little help. I found the official site, and I also found ZA. I didn't join then, but I was completely fascinated with the downloads. Soon afterwards, I got complete collection. Then, zoo tycoon 2 came out. I wasn't all that interested. Then, Es came out and I bought both of them! Then, AA rolled around and I was happier then ever. I had stopped by this site alot, but was just a lurker. I eventually joined in June. I loved posting in the forums, and I had a whomping average of about 24 posts per day! Then, in July, I told a member there was already a topic like the one he had made. RND caught me, and put me one Mod Preview, and I've been on it ever since, although I'm really sorry for what I did, and would like to be able to post as much as I used to. However, Zoo Admin is probably the best zoo tycoon fansite out there, although there are a lot of other good ones too, and I encourage all guests that are reading this to join.

Well where can I begin   My great friend Boblus introduced me to Zoo Tycoon and was already a member of ZA. I joined and for over a year I have had a great time on the ZT Forums.

We decided to make the forum Zoo Tycoon Gold and have had tons of support from ZA especially the staff who I would like to thank so much for their help whilst I've been here, they are great!

I hope ZA have a great 5th anniversary. Great history LadyZK! Very itneresting to hear about the early years of the site.

A lot of people already know parts of my story.  I am infamous on the boards here for practical jokes, usually directed at my fellow staff members.  Much to my wife's regret I am the same way in real life.  I bought the game in late 2002 thinking it would be a good way to introduce my son to the computer.  We both fell in love with it!  While doing a random search on the computer for (you guessed it) ZT downloads, I stumbled across the old Tycoon Resource site, and then came across ZA.  I lurked for months, happily sucking up as much download bandwidth as possible.

Then, in August of 2003, I stumbled across a random post in the General Discussion.  Eagle One was running a Fantasy Football league!  Woo hoo!  I joined that day, and my very first post was in that thread.  The rest is history, but I want to thank all of you for the many many fond memories and many more to come.

We often say that this is a family site.  Most people look at that as ZA is a site that people of all ages can come and find a safe, clean, family oriented place on the internet.  But look a little closer, and you will find that it has a double meaning.  We are all a family here.  Some of my closest friends are here, and I'm sure many members feel the same way.

Thank you all for your continued support, and just WAIT until you see what we have planned for you next!

Happy Fifth Anniversary Zoo Admin!

Wow. I've lurked for many, many years here. Not sure how many, but I finally joined the forums. I think this is a marvelous place to be, and I remember much about this place. I wish I'd joined earlier. D=

I jsut found out that I am the 15th oldest member who has posted in the last two months (with over a hundered posts , to weed out the inactive ones). Cool! Its pretty cool to listen to the admins and mods stories of how they go their positions. Maybe I should apply when a slot becomes open ...

Ah, yes it was way back in... '03, yeah, I had just found out about Zoo Tycoon from me best mate Callum, and really wanted the game. We searched EVERY GAME SHOP IN THE SHOPPING MALL - and the last one had Complete Collection. I played Zoo Tycoon for ages at home, and then found the website.

Then - ZOO TYCOON 2!! The release of the sequel passed by with me rushing about for more info.

I was desperate for more information, and after a thourough check of the official site, I moved on to the 'fansites'. I didn't know what they were, but I looked. I ckecked every one, 'Zoo Tycoon ABC' and 'Zoo Tycoon Unlinted' flashed through my mind. Then I saw one site, Zoo Tycoon Download Directory, that seemed amazzing - DOWNLOADS! I searched the site every day and downloaded new stuff, the first being the 'Walking Trashcan' - naturally.

Then - ENDANGERED SPECIES EXPANSION. It was AMAZING! I rushed off to the official site, and found a link - Zoo Admin - that I remember having almost 80% of the downloads I got back then. I looked at it for AGES - seeing all of the information they could offer, and finding some new things like Wildlife Park 2 and Zoo Tycoon 2 downloads. Back then I had no knowledge of the word 'forum', but today it is a quatre of my life. After about two or three months, I brought my dad into my room, showed him the site and said 'Can I join?' He said 'Let me look around first.' I let him. He looked for two minutes, turned around, and said 'Yes.'

And look how far the site has come! Remember when that person (forgot who) found African Adventure at Gamestop? What a laugh! And when the Dino Danger Pack came out?

In short, this means:

HAPPY 5th ANNIVERSARY ZOO ADMIN!! :banned: LOL!

Now to my story. My friend had just told me that this amazing game called Zoo Tycoon. Then Within two months I bought Zoo Tycoon and Dino Digs. Then a month later the same friend told me that Marine mania just came out. Then came CC and being the idiot I am I bought it thinking I could only get those cool animals if I bought CC. Then I started etting bored so I wanted downloads and then I found this site I snooped around here for awile and found out about ZT2 and ES and then I felt I had to become a full fleged member.

Longer ago, I remember when PIXEL was an admin! Good times!

I sorta liked the fourms more back with the ORIGINAL skin, but that'll never happen again...

As some of you know, I'm ZT1ing again! I remember when Xtreme had the 110 page long Show and Tell thread! Almost ALL my inspiration came from him and Firehawke!

I remember whay back when... Prehaps I'll share more tommorow...

Pixel? Geez, kind of rings a bell, but I really don't remember that, either, and I lurked for a fair amount of time before I joined. I do remember the one and only Pixigger. Though I don't recall him being an admin. He just sort of helped everybody out with whatever problems they were having, on all the sites, tinkered a lot and was very innovative in the beginning.

But you don't remember what now, me or Pixel? I remember Pixel so well... She was nice. Her custom title was Panda Protector! Good times... I remember when Aussie opened the ZTDD too...

There were a whole group of us...AK, Lowenfrau, EagleOne, Pixel, Couer D'Lion (CDL for short), Spiderghost, Xtreme, Frinkyman, Zookreeper, ZookeeperMark...gosh so many names from the past. It would be so wonderful to get them all back here sometime during the month to say Hello. I miss them all very much :wavecry:

I joined in November 2002, but like many of you, I lurked for about 9 months before I officially joined. Posting on a forum was a bit intimidating to me---I just came for the downloads, but then I saw answers to questions I had about the game. That made me a daily visitor to see what little quirks or "bugs" the game had.

Unfortunately for the site :woot:  , I also soon discovered the Show & Tell Thread....oh boy was that a mistake.... :whistling

Just to clear something up for you Panda King. Pixel was only a Moderator along with CDL, Aussie Koala and loewenfrau were the Admins that followed Eagle One. This list in my earlier post names the admin staff I believe in the order they took over in but to refresh your memory.

1.  Ogre & Red Phoenix
2.  Eagle One
3.  Loewenfrau
4.  Aussie Koala
5.  Texgnome, Casey & James24
6.  Yellowrose
7.  RedNotDead
8.  Bielski
9.  BluekittySC
10.LadyZookeeperNY
11. Penguino

Also past Moderators include

Pixel
Cour De Lion
Tyto Alba
Spiderghost
Doooot
Zoomama
Frinkyman
Flamethrower
Sypke
Zoohio
Blue Heron

You will also find a whole host of others who have been staff here at ZA that have moved on to create other sites or just become members and then staff at other sites as well.

But I have to add that if not for all the work all of the past staff members have put in to this site, the present staff's job would be much harder. They have all paved the way so this site can be what it is today.

I think it is so fun to read about everyone's stories and history here.  I believe I've commented before on what I think is so amazing about this site and community, and that is how it really brings together so many different people.  There's a huge age range of members here AND there are members from all over the world.  I haven't gotten this involved in an online community before or since I've joined ZA, so I suppose I don't really have anything to compare it to, but even my casual driftings through other random forums don't give me nearly the impression of people becoming close and forming friendships like they do here.

Which I guess takes us to my story.  I discovered ZT1 for the Mac a few months before I joined, which was July of 2005, so I got into ZT1 really late!  I really was immediately addicted.  Not one to do things by halves, I spent the entire weekend playing the game, and it was in this weekend I found ZA.  I was looking for a way for the Microsoft downloads to work on a Mac.  I never fully answered my question, but got involved in ZA anyway as I found a wealth of information on things such as how to make guests and animals happy.  I'm a perfectionist and became addicted to learning how to get the HIGHEST suitability and the happiest guests, and so on.  I didn't join right away, and I think I finally joined because I wanted to ask a question.  I was definitely shy about posting at first because I definitely didn't want to say the wrong thing and get yelled at  , but eventually got the hang of it and got more comfortable.

Due to various reasons that are long and not worth getting into, I ended up having to switch back to the PC platform, and as soon as I got a PC I got ZT2 and became addicted to that as well.  I became much more active in the forums, and was honored and excited when I eventually got invited to be a Mod and a member of the Design Team.  And although I haven't been here that long, compared to some, I have been around long enough to see the release of ES, AA, DD, and soon MM2!  And I hope to be around for much longer and make many more friends.

I definitely will echo the sentiment: Happy Anniversary ZA!!!  :clapping: :juggle:

I first joined in the spring. I remeber looking around the internet for downloads, when I found Zoo Admin and it's amazing downloads. I just downloaded alot for a while, and about 1 month later I decided to join. I remember being terrified at first that I would do something wrong and get expelled! But now I love it and I never imagined how may nice people there would be here! I don't even remember what I did before Zoo Admin! (Besides play computer games, lol) I would even be way over senior zookepper right now, but I was at a place in the summer for 3 months with no computer! So you can inagine how i am trying to make up for all those 'missed' posts!

EDIT: Does that make sense? Sometimes I get English mixed up... like in what order the words go..

Which reminded me of another thing I love... how we have people from all over the world coming together! I love the ZA member map and it's so cool how we have people from all over coming together. It may be hard to communicate sometimes, but it's so awsome and find it very cool that I get to be a part of that

The link for the map is on the ZA Member Map thread :original: but anyway,

I love reading all these stories! they are all very interesting, mine isn't really. I think I started just briefly looking at the site close to the end of last year from the link at the main zoo tycooon site, then I saw downloads and i was just getting tons of them from here and a few other sites, then at the beginning of this year sometime I started searching the forums and saw what you all talked about, like wishlist for future expasions (I was especially interested in the Avians one!!) and saw how friendly everyone was, and all the great stuff you made! which I though i would never be able to do but hey i made a pony  (with a LOT of help) but i wouldn't have been able to make it without joining. And have learnt do do objects fairly well, dowloaded heaps of great stuff! and got to be here for the 5th anniversary!

Here is my little history.

I joined in May 2004. I didn't lurk much before I joined. Aussie and Loewenfrau were Admins back then. I also remember getting warned two times for too much lines in my signature (You see there is still hope for all of you  ).
I decided to join mostly because of the Show and Tell topics. I too wanted to share what I had made and also a reason for me to join was that I could upkeep my English this way.
After a few months I was invited into one of the secret corners of ZA (drinks are served by LZNY) and I was so excited about that.....
Later I hooked up with Frinkyman and we did some projects together (Maybe some of you remember the "Mr Knowitall" adventures. In these projects Frinkyman provided the maps and I made the zoos and the stories).
I was asked to become a Mod and after Aussie and Loewenfrau left this site in the care of Texgnome1, Casey and James24, I was asked to join the Admin staff along with Yellowrose and RedNotDead.
Lately I have been focussing on making the calendar and wallpaper as well as a whole bunch of avatars for this site, which I hope you all enjoy. I can't design I can do graphics.

All I can add is: I have my best friends among the staff and members of this wonderfull site.

A day without ZA is day wasted.
Also I want to say :sign_than to the ones who stood by me in difficult times in March 2005 (the ones I mean know who I am talking about).

:IloveZA:

Nice to meet you Eagle One! (though my Doom Flibbles have yet to meet you...)

I've not been here for very long but have enjoyed the site immensely : :) :

I joined the site last year on New Years Eve, looking for help on an ES scenario for ZT2.
I was impressed by the friendly atmosphere and inspired by the show and tells to create my own. After being invited to be a mod I jumped at the chance, eager to be a part of this wonderful site.
I've made many friends here and I'm sure as time goes on will make many more.

Happy 5th Anniversary ZA! Here's to many years to come! :IloveZA:

Hey - just thought I'd drop by. :)

I see a few familiar faces, but the site has changed alot.

I just realized my sig no longer works.  I've got my own website now, and uploaded the stuff there.  Hope it brings back memories for some of ya. :D It sure does for me.

Maybe we can start a collection for saved pages/topics from long time ago - I wouldn't mind storing them.  Could be like our own wayback machine :p

I also have some of the Steve Irwin stories we used to make in Random Insanity as well... not sure if it's appropriate atm though.

I joined ZA a little more than 3 years ago after I downloaded the trial version of ZT and fell in love with the game!  I've enjoyed the friends that I have made over the past few years, especially LadyZ, Xtreme, Tigeress_10, and Cheeky Tutti.  And there are certainly those who are missed, whether they have left the site for one reason or another or they are no longer with us (RustyYoda is still missed!).  ZA is a great place!!!  And thanks to all of those who make it great---all of the members!

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, Nabu was under attack... wait no...
I only joined ZA a year ago. (I'm still a freshie. : :P : ) And I had never been on forums before. I originally only joined so I could see the animals for ES. (Don't hurt me.) But I started looking around more and decided to stay. My first post was in the Wildlife Park 2 topic, and I remember typing it. I also remember show and tell, and posting pics of my very first completed zoo. (Actually, only completed zoo. ) I always thought I was the only person to have played ZT. But this site made me feel not so lonely. :whistling But this is an excellent site with kind, friendly people. :IloveZA:
Now some ZT history. I first heard of ZT when my bro. told me about it in a video game magazine. I bought it on the very day it came out. My life changed forever. (Insert cheesy dramatic music) Then I got DD, MM, CC, ZT2, ES, AA, DD, and plan to get got MM! That's pretty much it.

i first got zt as a christmas present, but i didnt have a computer so i just ignored it for a while. then i happend to see the cc in a store, and i thought, cool dinos and whales! so i bought it even though i still didnt have a computer.: :P : but then i went to my dads house and he does have a computer. so i got to play zt for the first time. my first exhibit was the hammerheads. so i played it a lot while i was there. but then i came home and i didnt get to play it for a while and i lost interest. but then the very same person that got me zt when i didnt have a computer got one for my grandma in 2005. then i noticed zt2 and es in a store and thought "hmmm this is awesome, but i want to find out more. and that is what led me here. i got zt2 and es at the same time. and i frequented the site ever since. i spent the crazy days waiting for aa and dd and mm reading everything that was ever posted. for some very stupid reason i never registered :loony: but i decided to on the 5th anniversary.:party5: and then i was lucky enough to get mm on the 19th.:woot:

I first stumbled upon this site after downloading the trial version four years ago. I lurked in the corners for a while at first not feeling I had anything to contribute when I noticed something odd about this site compared to others. Everyone here was more of a family and that is exactly what prompted me to join and make my first post. I can see that nothing has changed only the family has gotten bigger.

Most of the original mods/admin/members have since moved on but I will never forget what a big influence they were to all of the rookies myself included. I know I will not remember all of them but the "Pioneers of ZA" that influenced me the most were Loewenfrau, Aussie Koala, Eagle One, Quivaz and Pixigger. They helped me find my own style and from there the snowball grew and grew as I continue even now to learn from new members.

Now I look at the site it is obvious why this place is so much above all others, it stands on the shoulders of everyone that has contributed from the start to now. I guess that is what families do, I know I'm not the only one that considers everyone here part of an extended family.

Great job guys with the site.

Time to add my story i guess. I joined ZA along time ago, don't remember when, but it was back in the days of eagle one, AK, and Frogman. Like others here, I sonn got into designing and creating things for zt1. Still trying to figure out zt2. MArkbell and some others helped on some of my projects. I became a designer when I kept having problems with my own site. I was a mod very briefly after Frogman left. Don't play much anymore as I have a full time job, volunteer activities, my own pets, and school all going on at once. but for those of you who miss my stuff, I have several projects planned and a few either done or almost done, just waiting on time to finish them and submit.

Welcome back planetkitty, I remember having many of your downloads before I got CC and all of them had to be deleted:(
I have been a member for just under a year joining two days before New Years Day, I got bored of ZT and thought if only there was a site that had downloads I found a few, but ZA had the most!! I tried to download some stuff, but it said that I had to register, it took me two months to decide to register. At first all I did was download, but one day I found the download link I was using didn'thave any new downloads in a while.( I had downloaded a Ton) Then I found the Forums!! Here I had found the greatest website ever I didn't post that much at first then I soon posted like crazy. I soon found APE and made many donloads for myself and started submitting them. Then I got ZT:CC and had to get rid of all my downloads and then I found the new place to get downloads.
That is my story.:IloveZA: :IloveZA: :IloveZA:

Whey!  Look at all the old faces here!  I'm glad I thought to stop by today!

So yeah, I started coming to Zoo Admin around 2004ish I belive.  I must say this is one of the best online communities out there and it is very good at making people feel welcome and safe.

I remember Spiderghost's and Xtreme made amazing zoos, and a whole horde of young designers like RSN and And 1, as well as the veterans like Quivaz and Pixigger who pioneered the whole custom content thing.

Then ZT2 came out and everyone worried about how easy it would be to edit.  In the days of my old skool work we were doing fairly primitive guesswork, but it's good to see how many designers have taken up creating ZT2 content.

Hello all and a Happy 5th anniversary to everyone.  The site looks great, I like the new look.  I am glad to see that things are moving forward.  I would like to say that I have been playing ZT2 but just can not get into it, I will hopefully give it another shot when I find the time.  The MM2 looks great, that might be what brings me back.  I made a lot of friends here (if you are reading this you know who you are :original: ) and the good times spilled over to the canasta table, those were the days.  I will be stopping by more often now as my youngest is finally sleeping through the night.  Thanks for the memmories and keep up the good work.
Frinkyman:original:

ps: tonight I will be on the prowl as the Croc Hunter and my three year old is going to be a croc.  He loves the show and this will be a nice tribute to Steve.

Yeah it is cool to meet all these old people. Makes us feel like we were all just born..

I dont have much of a story to tell, considering I just joined this year, but anyways here goes. I borrowed ZT2 from a cousin and started playing last year. He never asked for it back so I didnt even mention it (evil me) and kept playing until one day in Jan I decided that I would try the links on the Zt2 website links page.
Zookapi sounded the coolest so I tried that first. Then I discovered that people were MAKING new animals! I remember I literally jumped because I thought that meant every single animal could be made. I tried all the other links. And stupid me tried ZA last even though it was on the top. I found the greatest stuff here at ZA. And the greatest members. I think the total time I've spent on ZA is double the time I've spent playing ZT2. ZA's given us all a lot for ZT2 and beyond, and without this site I dont think I would still be playing ZT2 anymore.
My most memorable ZA moment... when they first announced AA. It was like WOW! Not possible! Ethiopian Wolves! Meerkats! MM2! That time was ZA's prime since I've been here, with almost all the members on at any time. Since then I've been posting a lot, tried my hand at coding (unsuccesful), meshing (worse) and reskinning (dont ask), got into some trouble which I sure will try not to get into again, and seen a site that first looked scary to me become like an Internet exhibit shelter.

Hi guys,

nice to read through your posts, bringing back memories.

Yeah, might as well add my memories.

Joined the ZT community back in dec 01 (yes I am one of the oldies, well not in age (see profile)). At the ZT resource, moved to ZA 3 months later and didn't look back. Met some great people, Aussie Koala and Loewenfrau who i considered my mentors at the time lol. Became a mod here early 2003 which was great fun :)

Don't know how many of you would remember the newsletter now but i had great fun editing that, hope you guys enjoyed it :)

And ofcourse there is Canasta- my other love in this community. What was my name? Canasta Shark I believe. Good times.

That basically sums it up :)

Cheers,

James24

Hey all!  Wow, It's been good to see some of your names here.  Just to list a few: EagleOne, James24, Spiderghost, Frinkyman, Planetkitty, Sideshow Bob.  Now all I need is Jens to pop in and give his regards.

My story? I was young and naaive.  Haha, no, I was 14 and wanted cheats and so I went looking for any site that had them.  I soon came across ZA and stuck around.  I saw the early discussions on this thing called APE and how you could make new things for the game (except only like...1 person (markbell) knew how to make them actually visible in the game).  So, soon after that, I started working on an expansion pack (possibly the first) called SWEP (Star Wars Expansion Pack).  From there I went on to other designing.  You probably know my name best in association with APE 2.5 (a little remix I pulled together).  I got to the point where I knew the ZT code so well that I could just answer questions on the spot about how to hack something or what piece of code did what.  It was borderline ridiculous.  Pixigger and Loewenfrau were my mentors and Casey was my programming counterpart.  I did the designing, and went to him to program it for me.  Over my time here I have been a member, a design team member, a moderator, and wished I could have been an Admin but real life took me in another direction.

Now I am 20, in my 3rd year of college, and I stop in every couple months or so.  So this isn't exactly my BIG homecoming to ZA.  It's good to see all the faces though!

Keep It Up ZA.  Stick around for another 5!

Hi Everyone :)
Congrats to ZA on a 5th Anniversary. Great to see the site still going strong and everyone still enjoying the ZA community!

Unfortunatley I do not play Zoo Tycoon any more so have had no need to come around but it was brought to my attention by an old ZA friend that there was this thread here and so here I am :)

Maybe I get that Zoo Tycoon 2 out and give it another shot one of these days.. I really do not play that many pc games these days.. mainly just Sims 2 :surprise:

Great to see all the older members popping in to post their congrats and the site is looking great so good job to those responsible.  I have no doubt that ZA will be around for another 5 years or as long as the Zoo tycoon franchise continues on.

I am still in touch with a few of you here, and frinkyman and I have just restarted our canasta passion so maybe see some of you there!! lol

All the best to everyone!

I guess it's my turn now :woot:

It's been over 2 years when I left the site but I was never really gone :)
I'm stopping by frequently though I don't play the game myself anymore. My son now is old enough for playing it so the CD's don't get a chance to collect dust :)

It's great to see all the "old guys" post here. But one of the greatest is still missing ! :surprise: Pixigger !!
So, old friend, if you happen to read this drop us a line here.

My congrats to the team to reach the 5 year mark. Just as AK already said I'm sure there's many more years to come.

So keep up the good work.

If there's one thing about the ZT community I never liked, it's that everybody would dissapear at some time, usually without telling everyone.

I first found ZT in early 2003 when the MM box caught my eye. At first, I was mad that I needed to get ZT first before I could get MM, but either way, I was hooked. I wouln't have gotten off the computer If I wasn't threatened with water in face to wake me up the next morning!

One day I noticed the download stuff, and I decided to try downloading some animals. After a long time, I got some at god-games.com and quickly disocovered the wonderful community! I registered back when everyone was wondering what the third ZT expansion would be. Good times, Good Times. My favorite sites were here and Zookapi. I bought ZTCC and loved it even more than the original, and I frequently downloaded animals.

In 2004, ZT was it's height of popularity. RSN and And 1 were our new and great designers. (I still wish they hadn't dissapeared.) and everyone was going great until it happened...Microsoft made both the BEST and WORST thing ever to happen to Zoo Tycoon - ZOO TYCOON 2!!!

As I remember, everybody started leaving the site saying they didn't like ZT2. It was like being deserted. RSN was gone, Zookapi closed down and I still couldn't find a site that wasn't shutting down besides ZA! But at the same time, this was revolutionary. We started getting many new members.

I kinda dissapeared for a little bit, but returned when I discovered people were making ZT2 user-content. I was dazzled and kept trying - but to no avail - to make ZT2 content, but I wouldn't succeed.

In 2006, I started a site for ZT2 and BF2 called "JohnVMaster's Hideout". It was an intresting site, and me and Tinyliljawa chatted there regularly.

So, I befriended Zebu (offline) and thanks to me, he got hooked on ZT as well. ZA is a great site, and DESERVES MORE THAN ANOTHER 5 YEARS!!!

But where's Pixigger? I have been to his site alot of times, but never 'met' him.

I've never really 'met' any of you guys - I only joined back in '05. Just like kiwibuddy, my first post was in 'Wild-Life Park 2!!' and I first saw a dinosaur! :woot:

WOW!  Eagle One, Aussie Koala, Loewenfrau, James, Quivaz, JohnZTMaster, Frinkyman, Spiderghost, Sideshow Bob, and anyone I might have missed.  Thank you ALL for coming back around and taking the time to say hello.  Every last one of you were integral to the founding and success of this site.  There is a quote I am quite fond of that I think applies here.  There are many versions and variations of this quote, but this one is my favorite.  I certainly think it applies here:

Quote
"We are like dwarfs sitting on the shoulders of giants. We see more, and things that are more distant, than they did, not because our sight is superior or because we are taller than they, but because they raise us up, and by their great stature add to ours."

Thank you all for all of your efforts.  I hope you will continue to visit us as often as you like.  You're always welcome here.

Well, seeing as everyone is popping back in, I might as well.
Now to see if anyone remembers me. : :P :

I joined - oh, January 24th, 2004. I haven't been active here in, err, a long time. I joined mainly because of my friend, known here as Boris. All of our old posts are gone (they were in one of the original forms of Random Insanity), which is probably a good thing.
Don't play any ZT any more (I never played much to begin with...), but I still pop over once in a while to see if this site is still alive.
Anyways, seen a few familiar names, and a lot of new ones in this topic. So I've just got to ask - anyone remember me, Boris (or even my sister - I think her name here was CuddlyKitten)?

Cheers,

~Thoth

AK, LF, JZTM, Quivas, Mngwa....some many of our past leaders, designers and webmasters (and webmistresses)...now how wonderful is all of this??!! :party5: Like Tex said, our site has accomplished so much because of the great loving start all of you gave it. You put in so much of your heart and time here, and we who are now on Staff are working hard to keep the ideals and principles you set forth going, with top quality user created downloads, informative forums and above all else, a friendly place for all ZT lovers of all ages to visit freely!! Thank you all so very much! :sign_than :nice:

Thanks to those that greeted us and remembered us with such warm  regards -I dont think Loewenfrau will mind me commenting on her behalf as well- the two of us became an inseperable team here and are still the greatest of friends. That is the one of the best bonuses about this forum is the friends you make- and I know the ones I have kept will stay with me as long as my internet connection allows its lol.

Since this is a memory thread, i would also like to throw in the memories of some really great Zoo Tycoon creative people. One that comes to mind who was a really great friend of mine and also contributor to this site - is the Frogman.  Froggy if you still around we miss you!! Frogman taught me how to make objects for ZT and with Casey's (Casey - who did so much for ZA- he needs his own thread)  guidance how to rotation fix them which led me to make my tutorials for others.   We were lucky enough to have great people like Mark Bell create the rotation fix program and creating objects so much easier.

I agree with Loewenfrau that Pixigger needs a big hand here- he was a pioneer with the programming of Zoo Tycoon not to mention just a great person to know!

So I guess this post is for memory of Pixigger, Casey, Mark Bell and Frogman- all of them made improvements to our zoo tycoon game .Thank you guys!!

Nice to see some of the older faces here. You guys are such a big influence on how the site is now and the present members have alot to thank you for. Thank you! I think I remember speaking to you once AK, but maybe it's just me!

Memory lane, hm? Well let me tell you a tale of old, a tale of... me? o.o

I joined 3 years ago, on my birthday I believe. My sister got me into Zoo Tycoon and I stumbled across ZA when looking for downloads. I met some very awesome people. Firehawke, Xtreme, Ouch, Jeox, Save the Mop, flamethrower, and, of course, Aussie Koala, Loewenfrau, Quivaz, and those other people.

Then I noticed something that Xtreme did that I thought was pretty nifty; mixed exhibits. I practiced with these and eventually, I got pretty good at it. I opened Mix Master's Lab, a site dedicated to mixed exhibits. At first it started off pretty slow. Then... I don't remember how, but hits shot through the roof. People loved it. And then... I disappeared off the face of ZA. School did me in. Now I'm back because I missed the awesome people here, to find many of my friends from the past are now mods. But with promotions come demotions. I was sad to see Aussie Koala no longer in charge.

If there's one person that stands out in my mind, it's LadyZookeeperNY. I don't think I've ever heard a discouraging word from her. Firehawke and Xtreme also had the same attitude, which I commend all three for because even I don't have the patience they do.

Now I'm older and wiser. I havent matured much, but hey, that's optional, right?

Same here germanwolf. Heck, whenever I read about the old days, it's like thinking about when you were a baby. It's great to see the original site builders, but it's almost sad yet so cool that this site has changed so very much in as little as five years.

I enjoyed reading posts from the 'old' members. It brings back a lot of memories.  I have enjoyed my time at ZA.

The designing and programming was a lot of fun.  I enjoyed working with Quivaz, James, Mngwa, Frogman, Aussie Koala, Iriri, planetkitty, zooey, and eagle one. I am sure that I still missed a few names, sorry about that.  I enjoyed working on the projects.  Most of all, I enjoyed the screenshots from the members, who used the downloads in their zoos.

I am amazed that there are so many new members.  Great that the game is still so popular.  Keep ZA exciting, and I will keep visiting.

It's great to see all your former staff members stopping in- it was you guys that shaped ZA and made it, and I feel confident in saying this, the BEST Zoo Tycoon fansite on the web.

It would be nice to hear from Mark Bell. I love his Markhor for doing rotation work but it needs updating and I would love to discuss that with him. I remember seeing his name a lot in the past a several websites.
Another name I haven't seen is Devona. Has she been in?

Yeah... even though I've been around for nearly one year .. and I'm "older" than some people with 1000+ posts .. I'm still a heck of a newbie. (:

I remember those good ol' days last December .. when I was at 400 posts.. but now for no apparent reason I only have 100 something. Nice to see how much ZA has developed in one year.

Hi Fern, thanks for reminding everyone about Devona. She was certainly one of the pioneers of the game with all those animals she made for us.
Last I saw of her she had a Sims 2 website and making clothes for our Sims game so maybe she has moved on from ZT also.

She was very active at ZooKeepers Lounge so maybe someone there might know!

Say, a lot of people have dissapeared just in the past year or two:

Martin1990
RightEyElash
RSN
Gibbon-fanatic
Tasmanian_Tiger

Anybody know what happened to these guys? Except Martin, I've asked around a few guys, and he's gone. I even checked his "new" site for the US + UK, but the navigation wasn't working. No downloads :(

RSN, I last heard from in early 06 or sometime in 05, saying that they were still working on fixing the RSN CC to be bug-free. I personally never had any bugs with it.

The others: No idea.

I miss the old ZA. I used to know everybody, but then ZA stopped working on my comp, and then when I was finally able to return. Duh duh dun. Everyone's gone. I'm all alone....

But now I've made new friends and come to terms that half the people I used to know here are long gone.

:IloveZA:

I loved your star wars expension pack!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I even made a zoo using all the animals in it plus a bantha!!!!!!!!!!!! THANK YOU SOOO MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!: :) :

I guess that depends on the way you look at it but the banners under the username is usually a sign to tell who's who.  :rofl2:

But to be honest answer these questions and it will tell you who really owns any kind of forum site.

who asks the questions?
who answers the questions?
who provides the downloads?

the staff, the admins, the webmasters but most importantly the members. Because without all the members there is no site and this place would not be possible.

Wow, so many names that I remember. It is good to see them post again. I'm also glad to hear that they are doing well. I joined in March 2004. My kids got ZTCC for Christmas 2003 and when I got laidoff in early 2004 I gave it a try to pass the time. I couldn't believe how frustated It got me! I looked up some sites to try to learn more about this game and found ZA. This place is unique and special. Through the threads the information I needed got through my thick head and I found I was enjoying this game. I did a show and tell thread for a while, and posted some of my zoos. Then I discovered ZA Mapmaker and a whole new area opened up for me. I would make a new map for every zoo I made. I even posted a few to the downloads to share with everyone. In my opinion this has always been the best ZT site on the net. I will also say that it currently is the warmest and friendliset of any gamming site on the net. I do not play ZT as much now as I did, although this was the start of my playing PC games.  I want to say Thank You to LadyZ for her encouragement, not only to me but to every Zoobuilder she said "Keep building" to. Those two words provided a lot of "lift" to many. Also my complements to the Founders, Administrators, and Moderators for setting the tone here that made this a family friendly site. I never had to worry about my kids when they visited this site. A Thank You is also in order for the Contributors to this site. They are the ones who built the downloads section that is so arrtactive to players, the "bait" if you will that gets people to join this community. Most of the posts in this thread reflect that the member joined because of the user created content. Well I think I have run on long enough. My Best Wishes to ZA and the Staff!!     Zookreeper

A very Big Thank You to Ogresnet, and to Ogre, for starting us off on the right foot more than 5 years ago, and for allowing The Staff to keep it going as its own new stand-alone site! Without the foresight of the Founders, past Administrators, Webmasters, Webmistresses, Moderators and Members there would not be a ZA today!! We love you ALL!!  :worthy: :iloveZA:

Zookreeper...I'm so glad that you stopped by now that we're back up and running...please stop by again soon to say Howdy!! Ya know, another Show & Tell thread just might have your name on it soon...  :wicked: You did build some of the neatest maps I had ever seen!  :ty1:

Yes you do but we would prefer you use the other posts here as an example and make your post. Not use the thread as a chat thread with other members as it just clogs the topic with unecessary posts that have to be sifted through to find the ones that are actually on topic and related to the ZA memories of the members. This post and the other off topic chat posts will be removed and moved off the board so this topic can remain for some of our older members to read and respond to with their memories of the early days of Zoo Admin.

My, my.. Reading this is about to make me cry.  I'm serious.

It was a few years ago that I joined ZA, after seeing my brother browsing the site.
Once I joined I took a liking to three members--DolphinDiver, Wolfclan4545[I believe the numbers are] and Unicornzhorn.
People I remember most:  Mo, AussieKoala, YellowRose, Tex, DolphinDiver, UnicornzHorn, Rednotdead, James24.
I remember how YellowRose came up with her name.  How random is that?  I joined in 2004, I believe.  That's 3 years ago I read that, and I remember how one person came up with her name? Woah.

I remember I was inactive for some time.  I returned, and Mo was a mod [very proud, Mo!]
So many new members, and I just felt I was forgotten.  Became inactive again.  I just could not stay here at ZA once I left.  There are many memories for me to share, but I don't want my mom being like "O.o" because I'm like " :boohoo:".

Hey TigerTail glad to see you popping in again.

We don't totally forget about members but when you don't pop in on a regular basis or post often it is hard to remember everyone when you have as many members as ZA does.

I'm flattered that you remmeber how I got my username. Sometimes stories relating to these things no matter how small have a way of just sticking with you because you can relate sometimes to what has happened to that person or because it's something you may want to do yourself some day.

Pop in and say hello more often even if you don't play any longer we always like to see our members pop in and let us know how they are faring in life after ZT.

Well, i got zt1 for christmas one year(cant remember when) after my mom saw it in a magazine. I played for years, and enjoyed the game without any user content.

Fast forward to when zoo tycoon 2 came out. I just starting browsing websites, and came across hundreds of zt1 DLs. THen, after days of searching, i came across the 8  or so DL's at zoo tycoon center, and couldnt figure out how to get them in game. EVery day i would try, and every day i would fail.

Finally, i got them in game (dunno how, but i did!). I started searching for more DL's, and came across bunches of them here. those were the days were the only DLs were by STC, PM, Sideshowbob, and OTterlord. I downloaded all of them, and checked back regularly for more.

on June 18, 2006, at 07:38:14 AM, i registered. (PS i only know this cuz i looked at my profile;))

THen, i found APE 2, started to design, became an active member here, and so on.

Iriri,

I didn't get to know you or Frogman that well before you both stopped popping in here but I'm so glad to here your news.

Congrats to both of you and I wish you both a long life of happiness. Pop in more often even if just to say the odd hello.

Frogmans bridges are still a popular download here and around the community and as a designer he is missed. He is also missed as a staff member here.

Agin I wish the both of you all the best. Take care of each othe r and I hope to see you every so often to say hello.

Congratulations Iriri and Frogman! I wish you all the best.

I got ZT2 as a birthday present back in 2005.  I played it until like 11 at night, then barely slept because i was so busy designing exhibits in my head.  When my computer decided to have a cow, i was super depressed, partly because I had just ordered AA. But somehow (i didn't do anything, which is the wierd part) it started working again a couple of weeks ago for the first time in a year.
That's pretty much my story.

TigerTail!  Hey, I remember you! =D  Long time no see, eh?  *goes crazy*  It's good to see you popping in, I can't believe I didn't see this until now!

And btw, I also remember how Yellowrose came up with her name.  Can't remember where I read it, but it's stuck in my memory too.

Big congrats, Iriri and Frogman!  Best wishes to you both. :)

Congrats Iriri and Frogman.  I think I played my first zoo tycoon game in 03 (the original).  It could have been before then though.
