Zoo Tek Weekly Update!

Hello all fellow ZooTycooners! Time for the weekly ZooTek update! Please come over and check out all the wonderful things we have going on.

First of all I want to say welcome back to Ghirin who has more time now that school is out to create and has been working hard for us. She has even released her Pig-nosed Turtle to the delight of our Wonderful Webmaster Crazy Turtle.

Also Genkicoll has created another wonderful scenery items called Oases. And by popular demand has combined all her Brick themed Garden packs. She does such a wonderful job.

The May screenshot contest is brought to us by Genki! She wants a desert-themed screenshot and any and all downloads are allowed come join in the fun.

Since CT has updated the site he has been working very hard on more skins and surprises as he goes. Please keep checking in for more updates.

And also please keep checking back because next month is our 3-year anniversary and we have tons of great stuff planned for everyone.

It's about a week since we last updated you on progress at PPNE.Well,as you know the Guide to Mammals is mostly complete,we've added a few recently discovered mammal species,& as new ones turn up they will be added too.

Work is progressing nicely on the Guide to Birds. So far we have all the ratites listed, the penguins, grebes, loons, mesites, moas, domestic fowl of many types, flamingos, tinamous, trogons, button quail & several extinct birds for you to browse.

Today's Nature News is now posted at Zoo Tek,including a story about the first ever polar x grizzly bear found in the wild.

Hi, all. I have just heard from Crazy Turtle. Please see his message below:

Something has gone really wrong. I am working to correct the problem. It may take a couple of days to fix. It was not hacked or anything like that, whatever went wrong is internal and was apparently caused by a corrupt file that I used. I am the source of disruption. Oops! The problem is really based in the download system, but it is causing problems everywhere. All of the downloads are safe, it is just a problem with the way the system itself functions. I may have to take the site offline to get this fixed. So sorry,
Crazy Turtle

Here is an update from PP
While Tek is down I've continued work on PPNE.We've added all the typical owls of the family Strigidae,& two families of extinct owls. The scops owls alone took three days!

In addition I'm adding the suchians, the crocs & their relatives to the Reptiles guide.

Normally I'd advise you to look via Tek

http://www.zootek.thecrazyturtle.com/forums/index.php

But in case you can't while the board is down take a direct look.

Here's the poop on Zootek.

We had a problem within the downloads system that affected access and management. I was attempting to fix that problem when a problem came up which cascaded across the entire site by damaging the main database. In order to make repairs I have taken the site completely offline until sometime Monday the 22nd. I have to rebuild part of the database and some key areas of the site. The downloads are all completely safe. We may lose some of the more recent posts though. The site was not hacked in any way. I will get us back up shortly.

Thank you for your patience while I work to get us running again.

"Well,we've now finished all of the owls & we've started a new section in PP's Guide to Birds for parrots. There are,as usual, seperate sections for living & extinct types,& there is also a section with pictures of the domestic colour varieties. Here,as work progresses, you will find the different colour varieties of budgies, cockatiels etc, although at the moment there are only lovebirds & colour morphs of the Lineolated Parakeet in there.

All the amazons & most of the cockatoos are now listed in PPNE

As we type this (it's almost 8.45pm British time) Tek is,unfortunately, still offline.I'm sure that as Crazy Turtle promised it will be back sometime today;after all,in New York it's 3.45 pm,in LA it's 12.45 & in Hawaii it's 9.45 am.

Many of you have popped in from all over the ZT Community, from Zoo Admin, from Zookeeper's lounge, from Zoo Tycoon Gold,& also form the link at Zoo Tek itself.Just over 2000 visits have been paid to PPNE since yesterday. It's nice to see this resource is being used by everyone major site in the community.

We have some more new stuff for you.For a start,in the Guide to Anthropology many more Australian Aboriginal Tribes have been added. We have data awaiting processing on the Maori Tribes as well,& eventually this section will even include the Scottish clans!

A few more biographies of Great Naturalists have been added,& in the special articles section complete lists of British Mammals & Birds have been added. As this is an international community & you want to see a bird or mammal list for your own country added let the compiler of PPNE know when Tek is back up.

Most of the work is going on with the Guide to Birds, with many wild parrots & domestic parrot colour varieties added.

In addition we are continuing to add prehistoric crocodiles as well.

Until Tek is back up,take a peek direct

Well, what have we been adding to PPNE today?

Firstly,we are still moving towards a complete listing of all the suchians, the crocodiles & their relatives,in the reptiles guide. As,compared to some reptiles, there are relatively few living species we're going to break our normal rule. What we've been doing with the reptiles so far is to only add the extinct ones, where there are no LIVING examples of that type left. When we added the Tuataras,as there were only two living species we added those in anyway. We will do the same with the living crocs.

In the meantime the evenings are currently taken up,as with the last few days, with adding parrots. There are many genera (plural of genus,a genus being a group of closely related species) of parrot which only had a few species;including the Grey Parrot,Psittacus, which gives the name to the entire family & order of birds. We've done a sweep of these smaller genera & added them tonight. The parrots are by no means finished,so please check in regularly.

We've added a few of the cockatiel colour varieties as well.

The last thing tonight is that we have also added all the known prehistoric parrots. In PPNE there is a rule that, unless the animal is well known, like the Cave Lion or the Dire Wolf,or recently extinct, then if the genus has living species the prehistoric one's aren't listed in PPNE.Well,we found precisely FOUR prehistoric parrots,in their own family, which we have added.

It seems that although Tek is still down you can visit PPNE via the link there. If you can then please click

If you can't,then click

Well, with Tek still being down work continues on PPNE.

Todays additions include 31 species of parrot across a range of types, from hanging parrots to grass parrots;& 25 domestic colour varieties of grass parrot. You can see these in PP's Guide to Birds. Most bird guides give you the wild birds,PP gives you the lot!We are hoping to add a piece on colour mutations in cage birds in due course!

In addition in Paul's guide to reptiles a further five prehistoric crocodile families make their appearance in PP's Guide to Reptiles, including the recently discovered one nicknamed Godzilla!

If you can access the link at Zoo Tek please try from here

If not,try this

Well, unfortunately the main Tek site is still down, but as PPNE is unaffected, work still continues.New species of parrot continue to appear in the Guide to Birds, but what may be of more interest to you is the fact that the Guide to Reptiles now has a comprehensive listing of living & extinct alligators & caimans. In actual fact,Deinosuchus, which is commonly considered to be a crocodile,is more closely related to the American Alligator than it is to the Nile Crocodile.Designers for both ZT1 & ZT2 may well find some interesting crocodiles to make using the existing species.

If you are able to use the link at Zoo Tek please do

but if you can't,then until the site is back here is a direct link

Two important announcements ref PPNE today, both concerning the completion of two major animal groups.A complete listing of both prehistoric, domestic & parrots now appears in the Guide to Birds, including some hybrid macaws.

In the Guide to Reptiles,we have also completed the listings of the living & extinct crocodiles, alligators & their relatives.

The next groups to be tackled will be the tube nosed seabirds & we may possibly look at prehistoric amphibians as well.

Well, with our temporarysite up & running,we've spent today,a Bank Holiday in the UK,adding Honeyguides,Woodpeckers & Australian Aborigine tribes to PPNE.It's been to dull to do much outside, typically British summer weather! It's about 4.15 p.m. here,so we will add a few more tonight.

Now many people visit Tek for the downloads & although the main site is down, the downloads are all safe.Because of the limited amount of space we have at the site we cannot make the downloads available there.

However, Fern has kindly volunteered to list the various ZooTek downloads by category. If you need any of these downloads, please PM one of the staff. Be sure to include your e-mail address in your PM, as we have very limited space here on this temporary forum. We will try to get the downloads you need out to you as soon as possible.

Just to be clear, send your e-mail address in a private message (PM) only. For your own protection, please don't list your e-mail address publicly .

Please come along to our holiday home!

I am requesting you not post your downloads requests here as this is for site updates only.

Please visit the temporary Zoo Tek site with the link in Cristi's post and post your request there or PM Cristi, Brandi, or savannahjan here at ZA with your request.

Thank you
