The Experience Starts here!

Welcome to the Turtlestork Experience. All Week long atnigh unless something comes up. We will not, I repeat, not, play reruns.

The Turtlestork Experience is a Show about one man's quest for the rarest species on Earth. Our first Episode will air tonight at night. This episode is a Quest in SE asia for one of the rarest cat species on Earth. Along the way we find another rare species accidentally and other more common species.

And before he says it, Otusasio, i did copy you sort of.

The Quest for The Clouded Cat

Our quest starts in a clump of rainforest said to have an unknown population of clouded leopards, a very rare cat on this continent. As we begin our journey, we enter a small canyon and i see a small herd of Lowland Anoas. They seem to be grazing and don't appear to be very alert. I sneak in close enough to take a picture before sneaking around the canyon. The lowland anoa has very sharp horns, so i was pretty lucky they were as care free as they were. They probably have never seen humans before this day. Even if they had come towards me i would be able to head them off due to their clumsy gait.

This quest Got wiped out due to forum changes! will eventually re upload the pics!
Title: The Turtlestork Experience
Post by: TurtleStork on April 25, 2006, 04:08:41 PM
Then I saw a bear on the opposite side of the canyon. Careful of the anoas behind me, I snuck in close enough, and with the help of my camera zoom, took this great picture. A sloth bear it was. This one wasn't as hairy as most. It must have been only a subadult. Although it has an insect based diet, the sloth bear can be very dangerous.
Title: The Turtlestork Experience
Post by: TurtleStork on April 25, 2006, 04:12:05 PM
Then i saw this sight. I had my camera man zoom in close as we watched from afar. A large, older male Bengal tiger was fighting the sloth bear. These two compete for food. although the sloth bear is mostly insectivorous,it still eats some large animals. The wise male drove the inexpierenced bear away with little fighting.

Post by: TurtleStork on April 25, 2006, 04:18:41 PM
Then i followed the male. I had time to find the leopards, i might as well check out the other native wildlife. The male might have been very old by his ppearance, meaning he probably wasn't in his own territory, so he might lead me to other tigers. I did follow the large animal to a lush valley, almost totally locked by trees. He studied the valley from the rim, just as i did. There, right in the valley, was three tigers, but amazingly there was two white tigers. The white tiger is so rare in the wild that they barely ever are seen. This was an exciting find. After jotting down some notes in my journal, i turned to go away.
Title: The Turtlestork Experience
Post by: TurtleStork on April 25, 2006, 04:22:02 PM
The last i saw of the old male was him leaving the forest going into the clearing on the edge of it. He was heading towards the other forest.

Post by: TurtleStork on April 25, 2006, 04:24:44 PM
Then i found myself on a plateau full of gibbons. This swinging ape is odd in many ways, including the fact it has no thumb. Here there was crested, white-handed, and another species i don't remeber.
Title: The Turtlestork Experience
Post by: TurtleStork on April 25, 2006, 04:26:02 PM
Then i saw an elderly orangutan. These herbivorous apes are very endangered due to the pet trade.
Title: The Turtlestork Experience
Post by: TurtleStork on April 25, 2006, 04:28:14 PM
Then i saw this herd of Javan Rhinos. This was an amazing find on the edge of the forest. This herd was breeding, too, so i jotted down some more notes in my notebook and walked on, trying to disturb them as little as possible.
Title: The Turtlestork Experience
Post by: TurtleStork on April 25, 2006, 04:30:26 PM
Then as i re-entered the forest, i saw the saola, with its beautiful face markings. I had my camerman zoom in to show these markings. These are one of the last large mammals to be documented. They were only found in the 1980's!
Title: The Turtlestork Experience
Post by: TurtleStork on April 25, 2006, 04:33:50 PM
Next i went back to the site i saw the sloth bear to see if i could snap a few more pics, but a more dense area of trees distracted me. As i got closer, i saw a saola running. That is when i saw what we were looking for. A pair of clouded leopards. The female looked in heat, so hopefulyy they produce some cubs to support the dwindling wild population.
Title: The Turtlestork Experience
Post by: TurtleStork on April 25, 2006, 04:36:30 PM
As i was exiting the canyon, the female leopard followed me. She stopped at the end of the canyon and watched me leave. The look in her eyes was unlike any other. What a great way to end the experience. I will see you next time on the Turtlestork experience where we will be exploring the american desert.

Ok, sorry to keep you waiting but, here goes...

Wolf of the Deserted Frontier

Ok, i was dropped of somewhere on the border of Arizona, California, and Mexico. This desert is supposed to be home to one of the most rare canids on Earth, the Mexican gray wolf. A pack of them was spotted a week ago, but they were unable to take any observations since they were in a helicopter. Now they sent me out to find where the wolves are and photograph them. I'll be sent out a few more times in order to keep finding exactly how they are migrating. They were spotted near the Lost Canyon, so i decided to make my way over there. On the way, i stumbled upon a herd of Wild burros. These animals are just like their northern cousin, the mustang, in the sense that they are descended from animals that had escaped when the first american settlers came to America.

As I went past the grazing herd, i spotted a grazing desert tortoise. After following the animal for some time, i took this beautiful picture of the tortoise with it's magnificent shell showing in the sun. Right then it was eating a delicacy, prickly pear cactus.

Here i saw a spring hare that seemed to be tense by some other animal in the area. After taking this defensive posture, i took its picture and left.

Post by: TurtleStork on May 15, 2006, 04:39:51 PM
when I saw this tree, I swore I could make out some animal laying in front of it. I slowly approached, as i knew these parts were known for pumas, which this animal very well could be.

Post by: turtleman2351 on May 15, 2006, 04:42:01 PM
Wow. Where'd you find that spring hare? That would be so nice if someone made it availble for download like the bullfrog.
Title: The Turtlestork Experience
Post by: TurtleStork on May 15, 2006, 04:44:02 PM
I saw the animal finally. This fox must have been the animal the spring hare had sensed. This kit fox is very tired, so i was able to snap a great pic. I let him be after the photo.
Title: The Turtlestork Experience
Post by: TurtleStork on May 15, 2006, 04:46:46 PM
As I backed away from the fox, I wasn't looking out behind me and once i heard it it was too late. A herd of pronghorn antelope had bolted behind me. I took a picture of the last two that had lingered after the herd had bolted.
Title: The Turtlestork Experience
Post by: TurtleStork on May 15, 2006, 04:49:18 PM
As the herd bolted, it spooked the burro herd that had obviously traveled the same path through the desert I did. The stallion reared as I apporached. I took this great picture of the big fellow and pretty much ran away so i wouldn't be hurt.
Title: The Turtlestork Experience
Post by: TurtleStork on May 15, 2006, 04:51:26 PM
As my first night on the desert ended, I saw this cute little nocturnal lizard come out from his home. It seemed as though it was a herbivorous lizard as it was head for the cactus in a hungry bound.
Title: The Turtlestork Experience
Post by: TurtleStork on May 15, 2006, 04:53:38 PM
The next morning i exited my tent and unwittinlgy stepped into a trap. I was caught in front of a bull peccary and its mate. I slowly backed back into the tent. Then I saw what the peccaries were so skittish about. I had to go investigate...
Title: The Turtlestork Experience
Post by: TurtleStork on May 15, 2006, 04:55:57 PM
There they were! The elusive pack of Mexican Gray wolves! They had been feasting upon the peccary. I documented all i could observe. I noticed that in the back there was a lone wolf who seemingly had to eat last and an alpha male who was guarding the pack. This is what it is all about. Until the next time, this is the Turtlestork experience. Bye!

Two Days In the Pyrenees Alps

I was dropped off in an area that is on the border between the pyreness and the alps mountain ranges. This area has recently been discovered and found to be a home to many numbers and species of ibex, including the pyrean ibex, my goal to find. As I enter the area i will be studying, a series of mountain valleys, I stumbled upon a small flock of himalayan monals. Thanks to the new zoom lens i got for this trip, i got a great picture.

Next i stumbled upon a valley containing a large herd of Ibex. This herd was one of the largest i have seen. I took an estimate of their number and left. If these ibex were to stampede, i would be crushed, so i slowly backed away.

As i left, i saw some takins in the distance. These massive creatures were in a small group, which is not unusual, but it is unusual to find any size group hanging around with ibex. i snapped this pic with my new zoom lens.

As soon as i awoke, i went looking for my next animal. I saw this herd of bezoar goats moving on a hillside. I was amazed by this herd's size, too. What was unusual is the fact that i saw a small quintuplet of markhors traveling in with them.

One of the male markhors had wandered behind, probably trying to get a root out of the ground. This markhor unfortunatley never got to eat that root, unfortunately, and the snow leopard had a nice dinner that night.

I traveled at least a mile and came upon a canyon. AS i neared the edge of the canyon, i saw the main reason i came here. A whole herd of pyrean ibex were traveling out of the canyon. There numbers were huge, and this is a good sign for the dwindling species. I wrote down my observations in my notebook. Until next time, this is the turtlestork experience.

Pacific Shores Wildlife Sanctuary

Due to my extroadinary work in the field, my agency has decided to put me in charge of a totally new wildlife sanctuary. Animals that need a home or need to be held for temporary study come to Pacific Shores. Our zoo is expanding rapidly. We are getting calls every day. Below i will start to show you the zoo.

Here is the entrance. I used my background in landscaping to make this sanctuary really inviting.

http://img121.imageshack.us/img121/2836/515ko.jpg

Here is the desert cafe. Below you will get a small tour of the vicinity of the cafe.

http://img121.imageshack.us/img121/2059/524vp.jpg
http://img121.imageshack.us/img121/7509/538yk.jpg

Next we approach our first exhibit. This exhibit contains four bongos, all rescued from an exotic meat farm in Africa. These five are in nice breeding condition and seem to love there new inviting home. There are two males and two females. The females are Ceilian and Bonnie and the males are Baikal and Ringo. Two babies are in the last pic that were born here. On has been named Nikal, a female, but the other, a little male,  needs naming. Will take suggestions.

http://img514.imageshack.us/img514/2268/658ee.jpg

Next we approach the gelada exhibit. It contains five geladas, the females being Hellen, Iklan, and Grace anf the males being Rico and Rethey. Rico and rethey were found together in an animal hoarder's house. They were in serious need of medical care. The females Hellen and grace were found being sold at an african market for food. The other Female, Iklan, was found caught in a hunter's trap. They are still adjusting, so in the picture you only see a few of them.

http://img121.imageshack.us/img121/190/578mo.jpg

The next exhibit is occupied by two caracals. These two are sisters, named RaNae and Rikiel. They were given to us after an unsuspecting pet owner was caught with the two cubs after a shady wildlife auction. They are also adjusting well to the new habitat. Maybe in the future they may be able to be paired with a male.

http://img514.imageshack.us/img514/2632/592ca.jpg

Being located in California, we get a lot of calls from reptile pet owners who want to get rid of their pets after they found the animal takes so much to care for. One of the main animals are tortoises. In this particular exhibit we have Bin, Hue, Jin, Unrol, Marge, and Rin, the spur thigh tortoises. We are unsure of their genders, but we know there is a male female mix. There is also Hilary and Hugo, a breeding pair of galapagos tortoises. This exhibit is unique because of the internal viewing area that allows you to get very close to the tortoises.

Sadly, an unexpected earthquake happened in the Pacific. The tsunami hit land so fast we had no time to evacuate the zoo. Fortunately, it was closed, so the only things there were the animals. When we returned this morning, we were left with this site. Flooded, swampy land. Our exhibits filled in, the trees blown away. Any fences, paths and buildings were destroyed.

only a few animals were caught lurking the property. These ones were airlifted to a seperate facility inland. The rest are lurking in the forests surrounding our property. We have limited time before a lot of the exotic animals die. Sadly, we did find some corpses of a few of the tortoises who didn't make it. The problem comes when we are forced to take one the animals of the other, less fortunate zoos hit by the tsunami. We are really relying on Donations now, so if you would like to you may donate to the zoo.

Here is the new bongo exhibit. They have really adjusted and really like the fog machines. You can see the baby in the back playing in the fog. This picture is older, and now both babies have grown up and the unnamed baby is called Taik.

http://img512.imageshack.us/img512/7425/enlarged8zs.jpg

Here is the gelada exhibit. They really love it. I got some very good exhibit designers to make this look like the highlands of ethiopia.

http://img512.imageshack.us/img512/6923/enlarged3iw.jpg

Here are some tortoise pictures. Due to their increasing popularity, there is a viewing area in the center of the exhibit. Also, we got some of the tortoise skeletons we found identified. They were all california native tortoises, and none of ours, so we have found every single one and they are all happy.

EMERGENCEY! Here in Malaysia, a truck full of Nile monitors has been caught. Kept in poor conditions for weeks on end, eleven were found dead. Along with them in the truck were a pair of ratels, a caracal, and a female mandrill. The drivers have been arrested, but the 24 monitors still remain. Will you adopt any? :crying:

Another case: four warthogs were found stuffed in a restarant. two were dead, one is badly injured and one is sick. The restarant owner and all of the staff have been arrested and fined $20,000. Will you adopt any? :crying:

The Crossing[/i][/color]

Every year, thousands of wildebeest, zebra, and gazelle migrate to more plentiful forage on the plains of the Masai Mara by crossing the Grumeti River. To take a break from the zoo, I took this quest to take photos of the extroadinary event. Although It put me in severe danger, this was one of the most amazing things I have done in my life. I also did this to start my study of these animals for any african grazing animals that come to my sanctuary.

Ok Here you see the massive herds preparing for the crossing of the river. They soon will get on with the crossing.

http://img530.imageshack.us/img530/3504/enlarged1aa.jpg
http://img169.imageshack.us/img169/5946/enlarged8vz.jpg

Ok, The wildebeest begin to drink. The Nile crocodiles enter the water, getting ready.

http://img169.imageshack.us/img169/6360/enlarged5oc.jpg
http://img416.imageshack.us/img416/1627/enlarged0fq.jpg
http://img378.imageshack.us/img378/6536/enlarged9oi.jpg

The first ones hop in, the crocs ready to strike. some of the wildebeest try to turn back from the dangers, but instinct will always overpower fear.

http://img378.imageshack.us/img378/237/enlarged3ma.jpg

The crossing is in full swing. Wildebeest pile in to the river for a mad dash to the other side.

http://img525.imageshack.us/img525/9540/enlarged4iy.jpg
http://img299.imageshack.us/img299/2492/enlarged6lq.jpg

Finally, they make it to the other side. many wildebeest were killed or trampled. some are still struggling to the other side.

http://img299.imageshack.us/img299/2739/enlarged4ij.jpg
http://img385.imageshack.us/img385/3338/enlarged0fc.jpg

for the last picture, I stupidly got in the water with them. I ended up fracturing my leg. I was told that the documentary was very good when i sent the pictures in. Maybe i will receive more funding for my zoo now. Until next time this is the Turtlestokr Experience.

Thank you for adopting those poor animals, but there is cruelty everywhere, I came across another case.....

In the south of Kuala Lumpur, in a small town near the coast, a man was found keeping a sick female orang-utan named Mary and a beutiful male crested gibbon called Vissagen. The team tried to knock on the door, but there was no answer. One of the men shouted in Malay 'Let us in now or we'll break the door down!'. At this, the criminal opened the door, and lead us into the back garden. Vissagen was sitting in a bird cage, squeeling in our presence. Mary was in a concrete 'bird cage' that was huge and much stronger. In a final attempt to save his pets, the man released Vissagen and Mary. Vassagen ran for his life for 15 minutes, but the team caught him in the end. Mary climbed onto the roof of the house and picked up a hammer, and began immitating construction work. She put no effort into fighting us off, and they were both rescued and are ready to be shipped to a zoo.

A Sumatran tiger skin carpet, a group of three Asian elephants (two males, both of which died while being transported, and one female), and a group of 45 peafowl (all of which were males) were also found at the scene of the crime.

The pet owner has been charged RM 100,000, and put in jail for two years.

The apes are not fit to be released to the wild, as both have never seen any other of their species, and do not know where to find fruit. With your help, Vissagen and Mary could find a new home, and live a happy and peaceful life.

Can you still donate? If you can, I would like to donate $50,000 from the Kooky Simian Society. Also, I have found this poor case.

A group of rhinos, Black, White, and Javan, have been found in India with 5 smugglers. 6 of the black rhinos died, leaving 2, a male and a female, both badly injured. The white rhinos have 1 survivor, a male, with his horn dented. Finally, for good news, none of the Javan rhinos were reported dead, and the 4 rhinos, two males and two females, were rescued. They were found beaten and covered in plantlife. The smugglers were all arrested, but the animals remain. Will you adopt them?

Sorry for the huge wait! Pics of my zoo tommorrow!

The Bamboo Forests of China

Well, I applied for a special grant for a trip to the bamboo forests of china for research. After years of wait, my request went through and before i knew it i was on my way to china. I was making a video documentary of the animals of this region, which would be the first Un-translated american documentary of these species. Oh, i was excited.

As i entered the highlands i stumbled upon some Mainland Serows. These great animals which live on the outskirts of some of the bamboo forests in these regions in small herds or singly.
http://img367.imageshack.us/img367/2729/enlarged2jk.jpg

I began to see movement in the bamboo. I was wondering exactly what species this was.
http://img367.imageshack.us/img367/2729/enlarged2jk.jpg

I Found it was a pair of Red pandas, known as the Fire-cat by locals. This species feeds on exclusively bamboo and is endangered due to habitat loss. It is mainly nocturnal and usually solitary unless it is mating season, which happens to be now.
http://img367.imageshack.us/img367/614/enlarged7ju.jpg
http://img434.imageshack.us/img434/9413/enlarged8dj.jpg

This behaviour i never saw in red pandas before. They would sit up very still and seem to listen very closely to the world around them. I captured it on camera in both males and females.
http://img170.imageshack.us/img170/3296/enlarged1nq.jpg
http://img362.imageshack.us/img362/6370/enlarged8jx.jpg

This is a picture of one of them grooming, a behaviour in which red pandas do a lot.
http://img434.imageshack.us/img434/8214/enlarged3zk.jpg

All of the sudden one of the pair began calling to the other and they both left and disappeared into the forest. I wonder why there was such a hurried leave.
http://img462.imageshack.us/img462/3743/enlarged1bj.jpg

Then i spotted something in the bamboo that i believe could have been the reason. I instantly knew what it was, but at the same time said to myself it can't be. I had just found a living specimen of the thought-to-be extinct south-chinese tiger! I was amazed.
http://img462.imageshack.us/img462/5562/enlarged1dd.jpg

I photographed some of the behaviours i saw. First, i saw some pawing behaviour and then it ran and chased some small rodent that it had been stalking. Little is known about this cat, so maybe this could be a revolutionary find.
http://img149.imageshack.us/img149/642/enlarged8fz.jpg
http://img149.imageshack.us/img149/4320/enlarged6ab.jpg

That was when i spotted it. It was a wild giant panda eating bamboo in the cover of a bush. I was being very quiet in order not to spook it.
http://img362.imageshack.us/img362/2403/enlarged7yh.jpg

I followed it through the forests. I did not know its destination.
http://img285.imageshack.us/img285/7416/enlarged8cs.jpg

Again it stopped and ate some more and groomed itself, and it had an eye on me the whole time.
http://img285.imageshack.us/img285/4251/enlarged7ie.jpg
http://img285.imageshack.us/img285/7162/enlarged9ju.jpg

I backed off a bit and came around to find it descending the far side of a valley where a hollow stump lay below.
http://img270.imageshack.us/img270/5883/enlarged7is.jpg

Then, I witnessed something amazing. The panda layed down in the hollow log and slept. There had been no footsge before this day of a wild sleeping panda.
http://img270.imageshack.us/img270/4078/enlarged7pv.jpg

Well, that wraps up this experience. See you next time.

BTW, please don't make anymore scenarios where i get animals. Those one above i can take a few, but i would rather make those kind of things myself. also, tommorrow, more zoo pics and the first PSWS rescue mission!

OK guys, glad you liked it. Here is the first PSWS rescue mission!

Greneph and Franklinson Animal Circus

Ok, the circus is in town. Well, not exactly, it is in Sacramento, hours away from LA. We received complaints from some welfare groups about this circus. The anonomyous tippers used words like "Horrifying" and "disgusting". We had to check this out. I was sent undercover to the circus to get some evidence.

Ok, Here is the admission booth. At first glance this place looks nice. It didn't seem disgusting.
http://img285.imageshack.us/img285/2426/enlarged1cv.jpg

Here was the picnic area and food kiosks. They looked semi-clean and not that bad. The restrooms were fine, too.
http://img285.imageshack.us/img285/8973/enlarged3in.jpg
http://img475.imageshack.us/img475/5952/enlarged7gn.jpg

I went on the rollercoaster to see if i could spot anything. All i saw was an arena in the back corner of the circus. There was also a skytower.
http://img475.imageshack.us/img475/88/enlarged3xf.jpg
http://img475.imageshack.us/img475/3695/enlarged3fo.jpg

Then i saw the sign "Animals this Way--->". The first pen i saw was way undersized with many barbary apes in it.
http://img444.imageshack.us/img444/3848/enlarged3vl.jpg

Then there was a small pen that contained two m/f pairs of asian elephants and one m/f pair of african elephants. these animals obviously were barely fed and also had marks where i could believe their trainers whipped them.
http://img444.imageshack.us/img444/7694/enlarged8fj.jpg

Again i saw an undersized pen with four or five chimpanzees in it. I was apalled by the filth these animals were in and the amount of ribs that shown through their chests.
http://img444.imageshack.us/img444/1883/enlarged2qt.jpg

The next undersized pen contained a m/f pair of mountain gorillas, again underfed and uncleaned. As i looked around every animal was that way.
http://img475.imageshack.us/img475/511/enlarged8xh.jpg

The next small pen contained two bears, one a polar, the other a grizzly. They had scars where they must have fought eachother.
http://img444.imageshack.us/img444/1317/enlarged9uy.jpg

The next pen held one female lion and three male lions. All of them had scars where they must have fought and been whipped.
http://img444.imageshack.us/img444/8191/enlarged7ab.jpg

The next pen amazed me. They somehow had got their hands on an amur leopard and had it in this filthy pen.
http://img308.imageshack.us/img308/8616/enlarged2jd.jpg

The next pen contained a black leopard and a jaguar. Both had scars and open wounds where they had been fighting.
http://img225.imageshack.us/img225/9373/enlarged2ln.jpg

This pen was one of the worst. They had around four giraffes in a pen that was barely big enough for one. They all had scars and callouses where they had kicked eachother and layed against eachother.
http://img308.imageshack.us/img308/4935/enlarged4if.jpg

The next pen contained four white rhinos. They had one that was sick with what appeared to be a dead fetus inside her. The others were male and trampling the sick one as they fought.
http://img308.imageshack.us/img308/8789/enlarged0lb.jpg

This next pen had two camels in it. They were dromedary and cowered in the corner. They had scars where they must have been whipped for camel rides.
http://img431.imageshack.us/img431/1774/enlarged5sh.jpg

The next pen contained red kangaroos and two yellow footed rock wallabies. I was apalled by the amount of animals they stuffed into the pen.
http://img308.imageshack.us/img308/241/enlarged4df.jpg

Two zebras stood in the next pen. They both looked very week and scared from all the exposure. one had a smear of pink icecream on her rear from a child throwing it at her.
http://img223.imageshack.us/img223/103/enlarged6oi.jpg

The next exhibit had i don't know how many spotted hyenas in it. I was totally stock-raving mad. they were all hostile and near killing each other as i watched.
http://img308.imageshack.us/img308/5807/enlarged6vk.jpg

These next two pens were bird-cage size and one contained four lemurs, ringtails as far as i could tell, and the seconf one contained two koalas, both sick and amesciated.
http://img82.imageshack.us/img82/8572/enlarged9qq.jpg

This pen contained a white and an orange bengal tiger. They were both dirty and sick.
http://img308.imageshack.us/img308/4045/enlarged8sd.jpg

This next cage contained two reindeer decorated with holiday wreaths. They probably though that strangling the deer with these would be cute.
http://img401.imageshack.us/img401/1681/enlarged7mf.jpg

The next pen contained a nile crocodile. It has part of its lower jaw missing probably due to people trying to wrestle him.
http://img308.imageshack.us/img308/7987/enlarged4ly.jpg

This next exhibit was really small and contained two flamingoes, both almost dead.
http://img82.imageshack.us/img82/7600/enlarged9pq.jpg

There was a small pen next to it with a caracal in it.
http://img267.imageshack.us/img267/3041/enlarged5sg.jpg

This next exhibit contained a beaver and two aardvarks. Both couldn't move.
http://img82.imageshack.us/img82/5043/enlarged9yk.jpg

This next exhibit contained a wolverine and a ratel. The ratel had open wounds where the wolverine had attacked.
http://img401.imageshack.us/img401/6760/enlarged6lz.jpg

This next pen contained two ostrices and it was barely big enough for a lemur.
http://img401.imageshack.us/img401/5783/enlarged4xx.jpg

This pen contained a lot of peafowl. They had half of them escape because some roamed the zoo.
http://img401.imageshack.us/img401/9026/enlarged9lx.jpg

There was a pack of wolves in the next pen. They had all gone hstile and many had scars where they fought.
http://img113.imageshack.us/img113/1460/enlarged1qe.jpg

A big mix of gazelles and antelope were in the next pen. There was a bongo, a gemsbok, gazelles and generuks.
http://img267.imageshack.us/img267/9113/enlarged9ld.jpg\

This next pen was one of the worst. It was very small and contained a moose that had no room to move around. It was so sad to see the callouses that had formed where he leaned against the fence.
http://img113.imageshack.us/img113/1276/enlarged2ym.jpg

The next pen contained two warthogs and three wildebeest. They were all sick and amasciated.
http://img113.imageshack.us/img113/215/enlarged9th.jpg

This next teeny pen contained a fennec fox. The pen was the size of a bird cage.
http://img267.imageshack.us/img267/2039/enlarged9bd.jpg

This teeny pen contained a few gibbons that were all sick and filthy.
http://img423.imageshack.us/img423/9476/enlarged1la.jpg

This next pen contained alpine ibex. four of them were crammed into the teeny pen.
http://img423.imageshack.us/img423/6958/enlarged5eo.jpg

Four penguins(yeah, no climate control in there either) were in the next pen. They were all sick due to the temperatures.
http://img423.imageshack.us/img423/5922/enlarged4gm.jpg

The next bird-cage sized pen contained a giant panda. It was sick, too. I was mad, now.
http://img146.imageshack.us/img146/4332/enlarged3ql.jpg

There was a spanish lynx in the next pen.
http://img146.imageshack.us/img146/2175/enlarged0hu.jpg

They had stuffed galapagos tortoises into the next exhibit. They had no room to move.
http://img423.imageshack.us/img423/6074/enlarged4yg.jpg

I left the animal area after viewing them all and went to the arena. I entered the arena and went up the ramp.
http://img423.imageshack.us/img423/4140/enlarged4hu.jpg

When i got in, i saw two more african elephants, being whipped from outside the fence, being forced to sit on their butts. there was also a lion and a white bengal tiger being forced to fight at the other end. this was it. I called my agency and they sent five trucks for the animals.

To be continued later tonight.

Wow great story very sad tho' and much better than my thread.

It looks almost exactly like an Indian circus. I live in India so I know that all the animals are stuffed into small cages, beaten, malnutritioned, sick, angry, sometimes even allowed to die.

Well, sorry for the delay. I had a personal reason that I couldn't get to it, but anyways, here is the first part of the two part page of my zoo. Today, I Give you all new pics of the rescuees. Tommorrow, I give you baby pics and a final list of all the animals before a twist.

Well, we saved as many animals as possible from that dump of a place. Many were hopeless cases and were euthanized, and others died on the trip here. Well, we used up all the rest of this property and now exhibited al the animal saved from the area.

Well, they all arrived on our spare property.

http://img86.imageshack.us/img86/6440/enlargedgt7.jpg

Here  is the savannah grazers exhibit that was recently occupied by our two original warthogs, kurumbae and warba. Now it is occupied by two generuks, two zebras, 4 warthogs, 2 giraffes, a few gemsbok, and a few thompson't gazelle. We ended up saving only two of the giraffes cramped into the pen. They all had wounds from standing in their own and eachother's feces.

http://img118.imageshack.us/img118/5072/enlargedzt9.jpg
http://img153.imageshack.us/img153/1553/enlargedab3.jpg

Here is the new junglefood court.

http://img80.imageshack.us/img80/3893/enlargedzj7.jpg

Here is the spotted hyena exhibit. Although they had become hostile at the circus, they recovered nicely. Their are I believe three in there now.

http://img80.imageshack.us/img80/9978/enlargedep0.jpg

Here is the exhibit occupied by the two gorillas and the four chimpanzees. They all recovered nicely.

http://img95.imageshack.us/img95/2623/enlargedjo2.jpg

Here is the four penguins now in their new state-of-the-art climate controlled exhibt.

http://img54.imageshack.us/img54/5615/enlargedhg4.jpg

Here is the Grizzly bear. He had minor scratches and bruise from his encounters with the polar bear he was with, but overall he was fine.

http://img54.imageshack.us/img54/9505/enlargedgr5.jpg

Here is one og the sectors in my three-sector wolf exhibit. They are all the same, so i show only one. This exhibit is divided three ways with one wolf in each sector because they never ecovered from their hostility towards eachother.

http://img78.imageshack.us/img78/6798/enlargedft0.jpg

Here is the african elephant and White Rhino exhibit. Their is I believe three white rhinos and four african elephants. They all are getting along well, and the elephants are healing well from their RI.

http://img158.imageshack.us/img158/7421/enlargedzs8.jpg

In this picture you see two of the three barbary apes saved from the small cage in the circus. They are all getting along great and love the attention we give them.

http://img109.imageshack.us/img109/5465/enlargedvw1.jpg

Well, with the new tortoise taken on, both through eggs and the circus, we made a new and improved enclosure. Here are two pics of it.

Here is the single polar bear we saved. he is also in the climate controlled exhibit, which he loves.

http://img150.imageshack.us/img150/3064/enlargedfq3.jpg

Here is the exhibit for the nile crocodile. He recovered well from his dehydration. It almost killed the big fella, but he bounced back.

http://img215.imageshack.us/img215/6117/enlargedur9.jpg

Here is the desert exhibit with two camels and a fennec fox.

http://img150.imageshack.us/img150/5600/enlargedml9.jpg

Here is the adult male moose. He had some serious therapy on his legs because of his lack of activity in the small pen the kept him in. He has arthritis still, but walks properly now.

http://img140.imageshack.us/img140/1474/enlargedjb8.jpg

Here is the wolverine we saved. notice he is coming towards me. This vicious beast was chasing me right out of the exhibit.

http://img97.imageshack.us/img97/8585/enlargedrh5.jpg

You can see our spanish lynx in the cave in the rear of the picture. He is now happy in his exhibit. If only we could find a female to expand the breed with.

http://img140.imageshack.us/img140/4966/enlargedvs1.jpg

Here is the male and female pair of caribou. Also, in a climate controlled exhibit. They had some calcium problems, but that was pretty much it.

In the same exhibit is the two red kangaroos.

http://img97.imageshack.us/img97/7581/enlargedfx4.jpg

In this beautiful siberian exhibit is the amur leopard. This rare species is so rare we may not be able to find a mate for it. hopefully something happens and we do.

http://img140.imageshack.us/img140/4596/enlargedyf8.jpg

I handed full management of the zoo over to my right-hand man, Carl Levin. I told him to call me if anything goes wrong and that I will be back in six months. Then I went home and went to bed so I could wake up for my early flight to South America in the morning...

Search of the Aztec Valley

Well, I arrived on the nice country of Peru that afternoon. My agency I report to Has found some evidence of a crater in the forest that seemd to have a secluded ecosystem in it. I, of course, took the mission, as i had pretty much dibs on all of them. I pratically owned the organization now that all this money has come in. So, I arriced today and am being picked up by a small jeep in the morning to travel to the crater.

Well, I arrive, and find they have already built a brick wall around it. I enter and find a staircase that seems to be aztec in design. I am the first person to do any research here, so i didn't know what to expect.

http://img80.imageshack.us/img80/1662/enlargedca6.jpg

The "crater" doesn't look like a crater. As i see the staircase, i believe that it may be man-made. Like a wall. what could it be holding in?

http://img225.imageshack.us/img225/9181/enlargedhn1.jpg

I slowly travel up the ancient staircase. Although old, it seems to have withstood the elements well.

http://img225.imageshack.us/img225/2145/enlargedov0.jpg

I get to the top and see a small platform that has no way down from it. Why would the aztecs be so afraid of this land?

http://img225.imageshack.us/img225/1001/enlargedms3.jpg

I look out from the platform and see a pristine jungle.

http://img80.imageshack.us/img80/4974/enlargednh1.jpg

After using a rope to lower myself in, i see loads of awsome things. I saw this supposed extinct cycad species.

http://img80.imageshack.us/img80/8310/enlargedtu3.jpg

I see lemurs, which is rare, considering they usually only are found on madagascar.

http://img80.imageshack.us/img80/7997/enlargedbp7.jpg

I see a tapir that seems to be a bairds. They have been absent from peru for years and they are here!

http://img80.imageshack.us/img80/3900/enlargedyy3.jpg

I also see redfoot tortoises. :)

http://img80.imageshack.us/img80/3694/enlargedjt2.jpg

I all of the sudden here a crash and look behind me. i see a faint figure in the forest.

http://img80.imageshack.us/img80/3360/enlargedbi8.jpg

I slowly approach and what I see is amazing...
A dinosaur

http://img147.imageshack.us/img147/8905/enlargedit4.jpg

There was a whole herd of what seemed to be stryracosaurs. They were beautiful. I am still in awe at this point.

http://img147.imageshack.us/img147/4494/enlargedya1.jpg

As i stare in awe i see a carnatosaurus i believe walk up and confront the styracosaurs.

http://img147.imageshack.us/img147/6700/enlargeddi4.jpg

Its mate emerged from the forest and enjoyed the kill.

http://img147.imageshack.us/img147/6622/enlargedyr4.jpg

I see A few triceratops in the trees among the redfoots. Another awesome moment.

http://img147.imageshack.us/img147/8340/enlargedqh6.jpg

I get close and realize the pattern matches the pattern of the red-spotted newt of today. I wonder how evolution made that happen.

http://img147.imageshack.us/img147/8725/enlargedva1.jpg

The male, as in all nature, looks more vibrantly colored, but stil resemble the female's pattern.

http://img147.imageshack.us/img147/8756/enlargedzt1.jpg

Across the river i see a colossal beast-a t-rex.

http://img147.imageshack.us/img147/9310/enlargedlb5.jpg

I took a few more shots of the beast.

http://img147.imageshack.us/img147/8800/enlargedne4.jpg

I see a bird that resemble a secretary bird.

http://img147.imageshack.us/img147/3744/enlargeduo9.jpg

A female t-rex eats a gallimimus nearby.

http://img147.imageshack.us/img147/9606/enlargedep3.jpg

I turn around to see two male styracosaurs fighting for territory.

http://img147.imageshack.us/img147/6235/enlargeddx3.jpg

Two male triceratops also battle it out nearby.

http://img147.imageshack.us/img147/4765/enlargedbz6.jpg

I slowly sneak up on this sleeping carnatosaurus.

http://img147.imageshack.us/img147/2800/enlargedrj8.jpg

A triceratops starts building a nest.

http://img220.imageshack.us/img220/6610/enlargedbf3.jpg

The herd moves off while the one female stays near her nest.

http://img220.imageshack.us/img220/1968/enlargediv5.jpg

The female prepares to lay her eggs.

http://img220.imageshack.us/img220/934/enlargednl8.jpg

She lays a giant egg in the nest.

http://img220.imageshack.us/img220/9181/enlargedjn1.jpg

She covers it with cycad leaves nad leave with the herd util it hatches.

http://img220.imageshack.us/img220/9255/enlargedkw3.jpg

More egg pictures:

http://img220.imageshack.us/img220/8882/enlargedyt3.jpg

As i approach the nest agin for a closer look, the female storms out of the trees at me.

http://img220.imageshack.us/img220/6792/enlargedgc2.jpg

Here is another mom with her baby.

http://img220.imageshack.us/img220/3729/enlargedgk8.jpg

Here is some grazing styracosaurs.

http://img147.imageshack.us/img147/6131/enlargedeo5.jpg

I climb out the valley from the rope, pumped to tell every body. That is when i looke out from the cliff. Behind me, their was lush forest. in front of me, development. Why should i tell of this area just to have the animals poked and prodded into extinction? I decided to not publish any of my findings and try to use my money to preserve the rest of the amazon rainforest. And the Aztec valley.

http://img147.imageshack.us/img147/9007/enlargedyf1.jpg

The lizard is the lava lizard(in the design team desert pack i think), and PM, i just got that pack and decided that i would show you guys its cool features, mainly. i am never really going back to the quest. If you looked closely, that was one of my more sloppy quests. My next quest will be to the boreal forests and tundra of northern canada!

Well, My other topic was closed and i have tried to get it opened again but none of my PMs are being answered. So, if a mod finds this, please merge it with my old one, thanks. Now, the Turtlestorks experience.

The Cloud Bear in the Forest

I have been sent to Alaska's beautiful boreal forests on the edge of the timberline. These beautiful forest have some of the most uniques animals ever seen on this planet. I am exploring an area due north of Vancouver, on the border of the Yukon Territory. There has been some talk that a rare Kermode bear has made it's way over by floating on a small ice floe.

I come upon a nice lake witha small river running from it. I believe it was fed from a hot spring as the lake was rather warm. I spotted a beaver lodge on the shore. The beavers take days gathering timber and mud for their huge lodges. Being only accessible from the bottom, they are the ideal shelter, as not many of the beaver's predators can swim. They love to eat bark, roots, aquatic vegetation, among other things.

http://img283.imageshack.us/img283/2210/enlargedjd0.jpg
http://img393.imageshack.us/img393/1597/enlargedqp2.jpg

Here is the river running from the lake. As i soon found out, it ran into the lake, so the spring must be some place up the river.

http://img393.imageshack.us/img393/28/enlargedzk5.jpg
http://img337.imageshack.us/img337/2403/enlargedvp7.jpg

I soon spotted a large Brown Bear coming from the river with a salman in his mouth. This indicated this was an ocean-fed river. The bears love to gather in places like this to catch salmon that are coming back to spawn. This helps fatten them up for hibernation.

http://img333.imageshack.us/img333/5660/enlargedos4.jpg
http://img371.imageshack.us/img371/1482/enlargedkk7.jpg
http://img407.imageshack.us/img407/8362/enlargedgm8.jpg
http://img333.imageshack.us/img333/4596/enlargedyf8.jpg

I left and went back to the lake. There, i saw a nice herd of moose crossing the lake. it is amazing that moose actually graze on the bottom of lakes and in marshes.

http://img407.imageshack.us/img407/2633/enlargedvv9.jpg

They were grazing on the other side of the river, too.

http://img337.imageshack.us/img337/6925/enlargedrm7.jpg
http://img407.imageshack.us/img407/3154/enlargedxs0.jpg

Here is a squirrel i saw under a pine.

http://img236.imageshack.us/img236/8449/enlargedev5.jpg

As night approached, I saw a whitetail buck marking his territory on a tree. Although i could not see his antlers to indicate his age, he looked pretty burly and was proably in his prime. The whitetail is the most common deer in North America and is a food source to many predators. There was a doe i saw later that was probably his reason for being here.

Title: The Turtlestork Experience
Post by: TurtleStork on September 30, 2006, 08:40:57 AM
The next morning, I saw a raccon at the lake's edge. He was probably hunting for frogs, as raccoons in some parts of the country are primarily water-predators. they will swim around in a lake to get a good meal. they also wash their food, too, so he may have been doing just that. He must have been a male, i presumed, as this time of year the females are in a nest with their young.

http://img72.imageshack.us/img72/4545/enlargedkn6.jpg

I walked about 500 yards out from the lake to circle around it, but instead i came upon this guy. An eastern cougar. That was probably the buck i saw last night in his mouth.  Cougars are also called "deer lions" because they are primarily hunters of deer. their teeth are actually the same distance apart as a whitetail deer's vertebr, so it can easily paralyze the animal in minutes. This was a bulky looking animal and i presumed it to be a yearling male.

http://img72.imageshack.us/img72/2120/enlargeduf3.jpg
http://img175.imageshack.us/img175/2659/enlargedfq2.jpg

Then I heard a loud bugle and saw a large bull Roosevelt Elk. He was grazing, now, but the bugle indicated that he was looking for a mate. It is harder to tell how old an elk is then a deer, but i could presume this guy was probably like 10 or older. That is older for an elk, as they usually get picked off by a predator before this age.

http://img99.imageshack.us/img99/6193/enlargeddl5.jpg

I saw a fisher over by a Sitka Spruce and took a picture. He seemd to be taking a watch for danger, and could never be too careful. Fishers love to eat porcupines by flipping them over and attacking the underbelly. He ran up the tree, then, so he must have saw danger.

http://img450.imageshack.us/img450/7682/enlargedpx5.jpg
http://img516.imageshack.us/img516/3854/enlargedzl2.jpg

He was right, a wolverine. Wolverines are very ferocious weasels, and can deter even a bear. They have been known to take down things as large as elk. This was a small female, hungry as can be after her pups, i presume.

http://img516.imageshack.us/img516/9614/enlargedes9.jpg

After the spoiled catch, she sat down and went to sleep under a tree.

http://img260.imageshack.us/img260/9720/enlargedki4.jpg

That was when i reached the other side of the lake and saw a wolf pack drinking. They seemd to be on to something. Wolves have an uncanny ability to hunt and detect anything. These ones were in hunting mode, now.

They had spotted a lizard, but they were too late as it was already in the cougar's mouth, as the cougar snarled at them, they walked off to find something else. It wasn't worth one of their lives, they decided.

http://img450.imageshack.us/img450/4631/enlargeduq4.jpg

They went into a clearing and sat down and groomed. Wolves had barely any predators, so they didn't have much to be on the lookout for.

http://img260.imageshack.us/img260/4883/enlargedbi0.jpg

Again, though, aother spoiled catch as a doe they were stalking caught on to them. They would have to spend the day hungry.

http://img260.imageshack.us/img260/1133/enlargedis5.jpg

Then i decided it would be a good idea ot check the inlet of the lake as the salmon migration must be starting. I approached, and saw a faint white object on the horizon.

http://img405.imageshack.us/img405/6425/enlargedzz9.jpg

I circled around to get closer.

http://img405.imageshack.us/img405/692/enlargeddw9.jpg

There it was, a spirit bear. Looked to as a spirit by Native peoples, this animal was looked to as a good sign, a sign of luck.

http://img166.imageshack.us/img166/7205/enlargedby8.jpg

I watched it hunt for salmon and drink from the inlet. it was beautiful. This was a color formation of the grizzly bear that has isolated itself to the point where there is some purebred individuals.

Well, now, my first zoo/animal park in my newly created animal organization, the Prezwalski's Wild Horse Breeding Center. This beautiful animal park was first brought up a year ago and is now finally coming together. We gathered the largest herd of Prezwalski's Horses in one area than anywhere else in the world! We are now trying to get some breeding happening.

A first in Animal Park functionability, Feeding stations. These are conveniently marked with radio trackers so it is easier for us to find them. All of them have natural stone pavement and walls. They help clean up the area easier, too, because the horses can get  aquainted to one spot compared to their food being placed different places all the time.

http://img430.imageshack.us/img430/435/enlargedrj3.jpg

Being from lush areas, the horses love water and will sometimes eat aquatic vegetation. we made these lakes very natural for the horses.

http://img527.imageshack.us/img527/9706/enlargednq5.jpg

A few california national parks donated sequoias that we use as cover for the horses. they resemble greatly the huge horses of their natural range.

http://img527.imageshack.us/img527/9079/enlargedak0.jpg

We do have guest amenties. Here is part of our entrance and you can see wild peafowl that were introduced in 1980.

http://img140.imageshack.us/img140/544/enlargedam0.jpg

Here is the jeep tour, a big hit among guests.

http://img527.imageshack.us/img527/8268/enlargedem7.jpg

Here is the sky tram, also a big hit.

http://img140.imageshack.us/img140/8425/enlargeduw7.jpg

And a few views from the tram of the park.

http://img505.imageshack.us/img505/2151/enlargedeu6.jpg
http://img133.imageshack.us/img133/686/enlargedis9.jpg

The entrance to the food court, Paradise.

http://img140.imageshack.us/img140/1764/enlargedtv5.jpg

The tables and food stands.

http://img133.imageshack.us/img133/9086/enlargedyg6.jpg

And the exhibit of flamingoes in the middle of the court. The flamingoes have a waterfall, some palm trees, and some grasses. They are all female to stop unwanted breeding. There is also a bridge over their exhibit.

http://img133.imageshack.us/img133/9086/enlargedyg6.jpg

Now, the park is humongous, and although we do want more horses, we would like to add a new endangered species to the park. The only way to do this would be through outside donations from private businesses(aka. YOU). For this to be a success, at least five donations(game money) of between 40,000-60,000 dollars will be needed. So please, have a heart, and donate. If you donate, you will get a thank-you notification with an animal's picture on it.

By the way, the animal we are adding will be decided once the donations come in.

Thanks!

Thank you! Well, Our zoo is starting to lean towards some antelope species. Remember, every time a donation is given, you get another clue to which animals(which i am starting to pick in my head. narrowed down to a few) will be added to the zoo. The donations also pay for some new essential amenties.

Mods, don't merge this one, I want to start new. If anyone is interested in my other line of cool adventures, head over to the (closed)Turtlestork experience. Now, with all new features, here comes the Turtlestork Experience 2!

Exhibit Spotlight

A new feature on the Experience is the Exhibit spotlight, a feature where we show you a habitat only outdone by the wild. Most of these zoos spend many thousands of dollars on conservation of these magnificent animals.

Our first Exhibit spotlight is from the Talahasse Zoo. The exhibit, entitled Indus River, includes gharials and some fish species that live in this deep river. The zoo has five gharials altogether, two males and three females. This zoo is working for the conservation of these awesome crocodilians. The exhibit is modeled after their natural habitats along the indus river. The high banks along the Indus are shown, and the depth of the river. Only grassses grow on the shore. The high banks help the gharial be able to get in and out of the river easier because it has limited mobility on land. This exhibit has been trying to get and Indus River dolphin, yet their citical status means that the zoo must get a grant of some sort first. Here are pictures og this exhibit, Indus River.

Oh yeah, forgot to include in the first post....

Now that I have been CITES qualified, I am now allowed to study and come in contact with more endangered species. Be expecting Some awsome quests in the future. In a few days, I am scheduled to travel to the continent of Africa for the third time in my life on a savannah photo trek. I hope to get the most up close and face to face pictures of the African wild animals ever taken, if i can make it through. These include  the African elephant, lion, and leopard. Wish me luck!

Btw, Thanks to SilesianTomCat for the Gharial, Penguika for the Tambaqui, used as the Indus fish, And thanks to any other creators who may have created an object used in my last Exhibit Spotlight.

Turtlestork, we can't play favorites; each member is only allowed one show and tell topic per game (so one for ZT1 and one for ZT2). We have to treat everyone the same, so unfortunately this will be merged. Sorry! :pout:

Well, hello all. In Africa, I started my experience in the very large Uzembola Meteor Crater in the Sahara, where only scientists get to access. This allows me to get very close to the animals. Here is the beginning of My experience:

Well, I decided to start off with a slower and less dangerous animal to photograph.

After this, I found an Ostrich pair. I remembered that the best photographs are of the animals various behaviors.

Dive in Calmay Cove

Well, Calmay Cove is an interesting place. It once was a meteor crater, and has since filled with water. Many animals from all over, even White sharks and antarctic dwelling rockhoppers, migrate to this cove because it is deep yet stays coastally warm in the Winter.

Well, with that I arrived at the bay(don't mind any zoo-like objects. too lazy to cover them :))

Then, all of the sudden, a rarely seen whale shark darted into the cove. Usually these sharks don't get too close to shore. The only reason, I thought, could be the warm water.

Trembling...
http://img170.imageshack.us/img170/5237/enlargedxg4.jpg
That was a close encounter. I am lucky he just brushed me, probably making sure i wasn't a threat.

He moved off.

The orca again!

And with that, I had to go. As much as I loved the playful and curious animals, I had to get back home to my wildlife parks. So, i left the place, with a sigh. As I loaded the plane, I swear in the clouds I saw the shape of a rockhopper penguin swimming...

Well, until next time, this is Turtlestork, of the Turtlestorks experience.

Please post comments if you liked it.

EDIT: the fences are inevitable. I covered them with the more natural-looking one.

 :yr1:Day on the Amazon  :budgie:

Well, I decided that there was one place that I have never been that I have always wanted to go. The largest river by volume in the world, the Rio Amazonas, or the Amazon.

I boarded the plane this morning out of Los Angeles, California. Now, with about an hour left of the flight, we fly over the Amazon rainforest. From above, it looks like a twisting strip of silver outlined in green. From here, it looks like a green forest. Down there, though, I know it is a different story...

We pass over the forest to get to a place we can land. As soon as I exit the plane, I go get a meal, and hop in my rental jeep to get as clost to the river as possible. I took dirt roads until I came as close as I could to the river. I take my supplies out of my turck and enter the forest. I make way to a clearer spot in the forest. Here I see my first animal.

Before I knew it, I saw a pair of brazilian tapirs. The male rushed me, but I held my ground, and he backed off.
http://img84.imageshack.us/my.php?image=enlargedrb6.jpg

They entered the river and started to swim across. This was when i realized I must have found a tributary because the river was very thin here. I new we were on the Rio Negro just by the water. I had always read about it in books, and now I am here.
http://img175.imageshack.us/my.php?image=enlargedhn6.jpg
http://img84.imageshack.us/my.php?image=enlargedgs3.jpg
http://img84.imageshack.us/my.php?image=enlargedsd6.jpg
http://img175.imageshack.us/my.php?image=enlargedwz3.jpg
http://img156.imageshack.us/my.php?image=enlargedda3.jpg
http://img340.imageshack.us/my.php?image=enlargedas4.jpg

They emerged on the other side of the river and sauntered along the bank for a while. We went our seperate ways when they again made there way into the forest.
http://img156.imageshack.us/my.php?image=enlargedtn5.jpg
http://img156.imageshack.us/my.php?image=enlargedtn5.jpg
http://img175.imageshack.us/my.php?image=enlargedbs3.jpg
http://img296.imageshack.us/my.php?image=enlargedbb2.jpg

I looked up and saw a macaw. Macaws barely ever flew outside of the rainforest, so I took this as a good sign.
http://img296.imageshack.us/my.php?image=enlargedgc7.jpg

I got out my snorkel and goggle and looked down the river. This river had many, many fish.
http://img296.imageshack.us/my.php?image=enlargedlh2.jpg
http://img340.imageshack.us/my.php?image=enlargedbu2.jpg

Here are some pirhanas. I almost freaked when I remembered that they would only do that if you were a potential food source. Some tambaqui also lived in the river.
http://img340.imageshack.us/my.php?image=enlargedle4.jpg
http://img340.imageshack.us/my.php?image=enlargedgc7.jpg

Then I spotted this little guy.  The yellow-spotted river turtle was just swimming around when I came upon him. He tried to swim away, but I kept in pursuit.
http://img137.imageshack.us/my.php?image=enlargedvd2.jpg
http://img148.imageshack.us/my.php?image=enlargedeg6.jpg
http://img137.imageshack.us/my.php?image=enlargedwc2.jpg

So then I got out to take a little breather. I almost sat on this beautiful chelonian. It was a red-footed tortoise, and a fine specimen at that.
http://img137.imageshack.us/my.php?image=enlargedjj1.jpg

Then i hopped back in and i started to hear odd noises. Then this little head of a giant river otter popped out of the water, beckoning me to play.
http://img137.imageshack.us/my.php?image=enlargedhj9.jpg

I took this pic underwater.
http://img148.imageshack.us/my.php?image=enlargedfg9.jpg

They were investigating this bank. It would probably be the site of their burrow later.
http://img183.imageshack.us/my.php?image=enlargedky4.jpg
http://img84.imageshack.us/my.php?image=enlargedtk4.jpg
http://img84.imageshack.us/my.php?image=enlargedmm7.jpg

These otters were so curious about me. I couldn't believe how much they love to play near this floating meadow.
http://img84.imageshack.us/my.php?image=enlargedta5.jpg
http://img84.imageshack.us/my.php?image=enlargedig5.jpg

Again I hopped out to take a breath and let the otters do what they needed. That was when I stumbled upon this bank of nesting yellow-spotted river turtles. They were all in a trance like state that I didn't even bother them.
http://img183.imageshack.us/my.php?image=enlargedrg0.jpg
http://img84.imageshack.us/my.php?image=enlargedye7.jpg

This female slid her way back into the water under the cover of this amazonian bamboo plant. At any moment a jaguar could come and make her his next dinner.
http://img263.imageshack.us/my.php?image=enlargedvj3.jpg
http://img84.imageshack.us/my.php?image=enlargedvo2.jpg

Now that she was in the water she lingered near the surface for a while until she was ready to go back to swimming.
http://img85.imageshack.us/my.php?image=enlargedoz5.jpg

Then she dove down to get some food after the tiring job of nesting.
http://img84.imageshack.us/my.php?image=enlargedgp7.jpg

I spotted a few small-eared zorros on the opposite bank nearby. They must have been waiting to get some of the freshly laid eggs or maybe a tired turtle.
http://img85.imageshack.us/my.php?image=enlargedek8.jpg
http://img263.imageshack.us/my.php?image=enlargedbj2.jpg
http://img263.imageshack.us/my.php?image=enlargedqn3.jpg
http://img148.imageshack.us/my.php?image=enlargedof4.jpg

That was when they started wading into the river! This was barely ever seen amongst this species of zorros. (in the seconf pic you can see someone else resting on the back bank)
http://img263.imageshack.us/my.php?image=enlargedet1.jpg
http://img85.imageshack.us/my.php?image=enlargedtn8.jpg

Then I heard some splashing. I looked into the river and saw a pod of Botos was passing through! I could not believe it! I always read about the pink dolphins but had never dreamed of seeing them because I thought they would be extinct by now. These dolphins were so playful that I felt that I should just hop in and start playing.
http://img85.imageshack.us/my.php?image=enlargedvx4.jpg
http://img148.imageshack.us/my.php?image=enlargeddv0.jpg

There was even this one that was almost white.
http://img148.imageshack.us/my.php?image=enlargedvv4.jpg
http://img148.imageshack.us/my.php?image=enlargedwt4.jpg
http://img339.imageshack.us/my.php?image=enlargedqe9.jpg

There was even purple ones! (my fav. pic)
http://img85.imageshack.us/my.php?image=enlargedjz6.jpg
http://img246.imageshack.us/my.php?image=enlargedoo2.jpg

They all swam as a pod.
http://img339.imageshack.us/my.php?image=enlargedpw9.jpg
http://img246.imageshack.us/my.php?image=enlargedlr8.jpg
http://img147.imageshack.us/my.php?image=enlargedsy2.jpg

Then, in a flash they were gone. And, amzaongly, another pod of cetaceans came to take their place.! Tucuxi came and started to be as playful as the botos.
http://img246.imageshack.us/my.php?image=enlargedpm6.jpg
http://img339.imageshack.us/my.php?image=enlargedwn8.jpg
http://img339.imageshack.us/my.php?image=enlargedsu3.jpg

They were so beautiful. I almost wanted to touch them.
http://img246.imageshack.us/my.php?image=enlargedmz8.jpg
http://img147.imageshack.us/my.php?image=enlargedeh0.jpg

They seemd to feed on the bottom of the river.
http://img136.imageshack.us/my.php?image=enlargedui9.jpg

They vocalized so much to eachother that the water was alive with clicking and squealing.
http://img147.imageshack.us/my.php?image=enlargedvf1.jpg
http://img147.imageshack.us/my.php?image=enlargedpw9.jpg

They loved to swim around and just play.
http://img147.imageshack.us/my.php?image=enlargedvv9.jpg
http://img101.imageshack.us/my.php?image=enlargednm1.jpg

And then they left. So I wnet to the bank and saw these female trumpeters all browsing.
http://img101.imageshack.us/my.php?image=enlargednm1.jpg
http://img147.imageshack.us/my.php?image=enlargedet3.jpg
http://img136.imageshack.us/my.php?image=enlargedkx2.jpg

A little turtle wanted to investigate. Then he turned around once he got stuck in a rut.
http://img101.imageshack.us/my.php?image=enlargedlq3.jpg

This male was calling to his females, making sure they stayed near.
http://img90.imageshack.us/my.php?image=enlargedom8.jpg
http://img90.imageshack.us/my.php?image=enlargedui4.jpg

I went back in the water for the last time today. Immediately I saw these amazonian manatees grazing from the grasses in the river.
http://img90.imageshack.us/my.php?image=enlargedhv0.jpg
http://img180.imageshack.us/my.php?image=enlargedsp3.jpg

The endangered manatees must have never had any contact with humans because I got this close.
http://img90.imageshack.us/my.php?image=enlargediq2.jpg

Almost like they said goodbye, they swam off and I had to leave the water.
http://img180.imageshack.us/my.php?image=enlargedhd9.jpg

I went to the other bank to sit because it was starting to get dark. I thought I was done seing naimals when this great cat emerged from the forest. I glanced at me and entered the water.
http://img180.imageshack.us/my.php?image=enlargedzu1.jpg

It waded around for a while.
http://img147.imageshack.us/my.php?image=enlargedvm1.jpg

Then it sat in the water, cooling itself from the hot day, almost as if beckoning me.
http://img90.imageshack.us/my.php?image=enlargedyt1.jpg

Then it emerged again on this bank. It walked all the way doen the bank into the sunset. I decided that was a good way to end my day on the Amazon.
http://img180.imageshack.us/my.php?image=enlargedao2.jpg

I got into my jeep and went back to my plane to go back home. I guess that is the end of this wonderful experience. We saw some of the Amazon's rarest. So, until next time, this is the Turtlestorks Experience.  :yr1:

Thanks.

I just want to say something: I love doing these experiences, don't get me worng, but it helps if I had some encouragement once in a while. This thread gets a lot of views I can see, and that alone does encourage me, but it would be nice to have some more replies. I am just saying that if you like my experiences, then post a comment saying you do. I don't care if you just say "cool pics" or "my favorite picture is ______". I will keep this thread up as much as possible nonetheless.
