Now that I have some time to do so, I have decided to post some snapshots of some of the ZT2 animals I display in my zoos, plus adding some information...
The African Elephant (Loxodonta africana) grows throughout it's lifetime; a 50 year old bull is noticeably larger than a 20 year old.

interesting, continue w/ the pics & info.: :) : : :) : : :) : : :) :

(http://img272.imageshack.us/img272/805/americanbeaver7df.th.jpg) (http://img272.imageshack.us/my.php?image=americanbeaver7df.jpg)
In some regions, the American Beaver (Castor canadensis) is used to build dams to stop rivers flooding. To transport them, the beavers are taken by aeroplane and then parachuted down.
-
Hehe...Thats the WRONGLatin name for it. Its Castor Americanus, not Canadenesis. Thats the Canadian Beaver!!!
-
and..and...? more pics please!
-
Hehe...Thats the WRONGLatin name for it. Its Castor Americanus, not Canadenesis. Thats the Canadian Beaver!!!
Oh, will you guys PLEASE get it out of your head that there is any such thing as a Canadian Beaver? There isn't. It is called the American Beaver, and Canadenesis IS it's latin name...in BOTH of my animal books.
-
it's true! i looked it up.
-
In a Canadian book no doubt...that's biasey. It's American Beaver, Castor Canadenesis, and that's FINAL!
-
It even says American Beaver in the zoopedia, and says Castor Canadenesis for the latin name...
Things dont always have to make complete sense in the animal kingdom:laughing:
-
 :sign_alri There ARE Canadian Beavers, and that is a fact. I've seen a few around here(Canada). But believe what you want to believe,i'm just telling you the truth. But lets drop this before a mod comes or w/e.
-
Howling Shadow Wolf is right--we don't want this to become a shouting match. There may be a difference of opinion, and the zoopedia has been known to be incorrect at times. Let's just remember that no matter what the animals' latin name is, in our ZT world it can live anywhere we put it-just as long as we properly care for it.
Lady Z

No you're not, you're being brainwashed. It's American Beaver, and you're just calling it Canadian because you are. Sorry to bring it up, but it's the truth. There's only Eurasian or American.
End this now.
and you are not helping by continuing the debate after being asked by a mod to stop. if you both keep this up you will both be on mod preview
-
i like the elephant pic, and sorry if this is carrying on but an animal can live in more thasn 1 country , e.g egyption fruit bats live al over thep place not just in egypt (just an outsiders opinion)
again cool pics:specool:
PLEASE DO NOT KEEP ON
-
OK, I don't know about you guys, but I'm quitting whilst I'm ahead.
(http://img433.imageshack.us/img433/3131/bengaltiger2ka.th.jpg) (http://img433.imageshack.us/my.php?image=bengaltiger2ka.jpg)
Of the six remaining tiger subspecies, the Bengal Tiger (Panthera tigris tigris) is the commonest, but even that isn't saying much, as there may be less than 2000 remaining in India.
-
nice pic, Ouch.:original: :original: :original:
-
(http://img270.imageshack.us/img270/1323/blackrhinoceros2cp.th.jpg) (http://img270.imageshack.us/my.php?image=blackrhinoceros2cp.jpg)
A group of Black Rhinoceros' (Diceros bicornis)...or any rhino for that matter...is collectively known as a "crash"
-
nice rhino pic, although there's only 2 rhinos in that pic. If you had a pic of a group (or "crash") of rhinos, it might make a little more sense. Just saying.
-
They're just totally random facts, the pictures have no influence of anything. I take the pictures first, then the facts.
-
oh, ok, I didn't quite know the process.
-
c00l tiger! the crash looks :specool: too
-
(http://img275.imageshack.us/img275/8207/cheetah8fw.th.jpg) (http://img275.imageshack.us/my.php?image=cheetah8fw.jpg)
After the lion, the Cheetah (Acinonyx jubatus) is the most social cat, with related males staying in bachelor groups for several years.
-
(http://img275.imageshack.us/img275/8207/cheetah8fw.th.jpg) (http://img275.imageshack.us/my.php?image=cheetah8fw.jpg)
After the lion, the Cheetah (Acinonyx jubatus) is the most social cat, with related males staying in bachelor groups for several years.
WOW, I honestly didn't know that. I thought lions were the only social cat.
-

he's probably just using facts that he already knows.
-
Hmmm I guess animal planet and sites on animals were wrong.
-
Well maybe maybe not lets not go on anymore rants I think the cheetahs are cool as for social my Lions aren’t very social at all they hate each other. (In the game)
-
How about this. We let Ouch post his Screens and facts. Then, if you like em, you say so. If you don't like them, or simply want to point out how your right and he's wrong, you just ignore the topic.
-
Ouch, This stuff is great :D
Keep up the nice work *a group of rhinos is called a crash, that is soooo cool!!!*

Isn't that what we're doing? (or, at least I'm doing that, I think)
-

Never said you did it. And now i'm dropping this subject. I just want to see Ouch's pictures.
-
ya, I'd like to see more pics, too!
-
I'll get one up later tonight. Hopefully.
-
And here it is...
(http://img379.imageshack.us/img379/23/chimpanzee7bh.th.jpg) (http://img379.imageshack.us/my.php?image=chimpanzee7bh.jpg)
Studies show that about 99% of the DNA of a Chimpanzee (Pan troglodytes) is identical to our own.
-
nice pic, Ouch. Funny how that pic relates to humans!
-
(http://img518.imageshack.us/img518/2969/commonpeafowlhp8.th.jpg) (http://img518.imageshack.us/my.php?image=commonpeafowlhp8.jpg)
Whilst originally from India, the Common Peafowl (Pavo cristatus) can now be found virtually worldwide, as semi-captive birds are found in many parks and gardens.
-
teehee Cool pics. keep them coming. I like rhinos...
-
Nice pics, can't wait for more.
-
Thanks.
You'll have to excuse my absance. I've been on holiday and a little held-back as a result. Hopefully, I'll have more soon.
-
Neat idea, Ouch.
-
(http://img247.imageshack.us/img247/1160/commonzebraxg6.th.jpg) (http://img247.imageshack.us/my.php?image=commonzebraxg6.jpg)
Of the three Zebra species, the Common Zebra (Equus burchelli) is the only one to have a striped underbelly.
-
Good pic!! Interesting fact!!
-
Wow! I didn't know that! Thanks for sharing!
-
Thanks. Sorry for the absance...I've had little inspiration, AND I've been rather unwell. But here we go...
(http://img110.imageshack.us/img110/8262/dromedarycamelmq0.th.jpg) (http://img110.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dromedarycamelmq0.jpg)
It is believed that the Dromedary Camel (Camelus dromedarius) has been extinct as a wild animal since 4000 B.C.
-
:surprise: I had NO idea!! Thanks for supplying the community about facts about our various favorite animals!
-
WOW!!!! Interesting facts ouch!!! I never knew that!!!!
-
Neat - it is nice to see these facts with the pics! Very interesting
-
Wow! thats a very interesting fact! =O
i seriously had no idea!
your files are amazing!
-
(http://img63.imageshack.us/img63/2308/emperorpenguindm5.th.jpg) (http://img63.imageshack.us/my.php?image=emperorpenguindm5.jpg)
Although the Emperor Penguin (Aptenodytes forsteri) is the largest penguin alive today, the fossil records contain a penguin that was over twice as large.
-
nice job, Ouch! I honestly did not know that penguin fact.
-
Me neither! I love seeing the facts with the pictures! Keep it up!
-
(http://img241.imageshack.us/img241/57/gemsbokmw7.th.jpg) (http://img241.imageshack.us/my.php?image=gemsbokmw7.jpg)
The largest and most common of the oryx species, the Gemsbok (Oryx gazella) needs to get to a body temperature of 45 degrees C (113 degrees F) before it starts panting/sweating...a handy way to save moisture.
-
(http://img115.imageshack.us/img115/4325/giantpandact6.th.jpg) (http://img115.imageshack.us/my.php?image=giantpandact6.jpg)
Giant Pandas (Ailuropoda melanoleuca) don't eat every kind of bamboo. Whilst there may be about 12 species of bamboo growing in a panda's territory, it may only eat two of these, before heading off to find somewhere else to feed. As the old saying goes, "He eats, shoots and leaves."

BTW, my plan is to do all the animals from the original ZT2, then all the animals from ES, then AA, then MM, before saving the downloadable animals for last, to give the (wonderfully clever) staff of BF to bring us more surprises. Look out for another project I may also do.
P.S. If you're wondering, all the animals from the pictures taken so far are from the same zoo. I really did build a zoo with all 30 original animals in it. Then I repeated it for ES and AA. MM2 will follow suit.
-
Very interesting facts. I never knew that.
-
very interesting fact, Ouch. I'm really excited for all your animal files! And what are some of the download animals that you're considering doing animal files on?
-
I can't wait to see the MM2 animals featured!
-
i love the facts! And i can't wait for the marine mania pics, even though they'll be a while in coming!
-
interesting facts. i never knew.
-

Oh, they'll just be all the official animals. Possibly the Dino Danger ones as well. Nothing fancy.
-

oh, ok, I thought you meant user downloads.
-
OK, I'm sorry, but I'm going to have to have this closed for a little while.
Why? Paint, the program I use to edit my pictures, has vanished from my desktop and I have no idea how to get it back.
Can a moderator please lock this for the time being?
-
Closed at Ouch's request
-
Ouch has remedied his disfficulties and the thread is now open for him to continue.
-
Well, I managed to get Dino Danger successfully installed, so there will be pictures relating to it in the near future. I'll see if I can post a picture later tonight.
-
OK, so it's a little later than I promised, but I do have something for you.
(http://img123.imageshack.us/img123/4687/greaterflamingout9.th.jpg) (http://img123.imageshack.us/my.php?image=greaterflamingout9.jpg)
Greater Flamingos (Phoenicopterus ruber) found in the New World (the Americas) are generally much redder in colour than those found in the Old World.
-
nice fact and pic, Ouch. I always love looking at this thread.
-
(http://img84.imageshack.us/img84/8326/grizzlybearhx7.th.jpg) (http://img84.imageshack.us/my.php?image=grizzlybearhx7.jpg)
The Grizzly Bear (Ursus arctos horribilis) gets its name not from its supposed temper, but from its fur, which is paler (or grizzled) at the tip.
-
(http://img399.imageshack.us/img399/121/hippopotamusps2.th.jpg) (http://img399.imageshack.us/my.php?image=hippopotamusps2.jpg)
A Hippopotamus (Hippopotamus amphibus) can flip its mouth through 180 degrees.
(NOTE: I did want to take a picture of a Hippo yawning, but I needed to grab a picture that wasn't intruded by the keeper or a emoticon. The second I took the picture...it yawned!)
-
Wonderful facts! :original: I also enjoy the wonderful pictures!
-
(http://img239.imageshack.us/img239/5359/ibexka0.th.jpg) (http://img239.imageshack.us/my.php?image=ibexka0.jpg)
An old myth says that the Ibex (Capra ibex) had a completely rigid spine, thus preventing it from looking back. If threatened, it would simply jump. Of course, this picture clearly shows this not to be true.
-
you should be able to turn off the little smiley faces if they get too bothersome.... i believe it's in the pop up menu all the way on the left hand side. also, if you get a great pic but need help erasing zoo keepers or faces or guests out, let me know, I'm good at that in photoshop (lol, i erase stupid people from my vacation picture backgrounds, :original: )
-
cool pics and nice facts
where do you get that info from???
-
(http://img184.imageshack.us/img184/9357/jaguarzc0.th.jpg) (http://img184.imageshack.us/my.php?image=jaguarzc0.jpg)
The Jaguar's (Panthera Onca) name, quite literally, means "The cat which kills its prey with a single bound". It is the only cat that kills it's prey with a bite to the skull rather than the neck.
-
Wow, I just discovered this thread, and it is awesome! One of the best show-and-tell threads. No offense meant to anybody at all.
And those are pretty awesome facts! I didn't know any of these!!
-
interesting jaguar fact, Ouch.:original:
-
(http://img127.imageshack.us/img127/6417/lionjo9.th.jpg) (http://img127.imageshack.us/my.php?image=lionjo9.jpg)
Contary to popular belief, the Lion (Panthera Leo) seen 'roaring' at the beginning of the MGM films is not roaring at all, but in fact snarling. A lion's real roar is much deeper and lower in tone, and is used to advertise the pride.
Don't ask what this Lion is doing.
-
What is the lion doing?:wicked: I like the files. I am learning alot of stuff I didnt know before.
-
Awesome facts! I bet the lion is yawning!
-
Yes it is I suppose! This thread is so informative, we all get to know more about animals! Keep up the good work Ouch!
-
great pics and facts! can't wait for more! :specool:

(http://img375.imageshack.us/img375/8770/moosewy8.th.jpg) (http://img375.imageshack.us/my.php?image=moosewy8.jpg)
The word Moose (Alces alces), quite literally, means "Eater of twigs".
-
Sorry about this. I thought the forum had mucked up again.
-
nice pic & interesting fact, Ouch!:specool:
-
Interesting facts, Ouch! I love the pics too

Even though he may only be a foot higher than her, a male Mountain Gorilla (Gorilla gorilla beringei) is well over twice the weight of a female.

(http://img54.imageshack.us/img54/3292/nilecrocodilevc9.th.jpg) (http://img54.imageshack.us/my.php?image=nilecrocodilevc9.jpg)
The 'Death Roll' of the Nile Crocodile (Crocodylus niloticus) is the alternative approach of chewing, which crocodilians can't do.
-
cool facts, Ouch.
-
no, the death roll is to rip peices of meat off the carcass, that is not "chewing"
-

I never said it was chewing.
-
cool facts!
-
you did, by saying that the death roll is an altenative to chewing.
-
you did, by saying that the death roll is an altenative to chewing.
Contradiction at it's finest. Once again, I did not say that the death roll is the same as chewing.
-
I love the Lion pic!
-
you did, by saying that the death roll is an altenative to chewing.
Contradiction at it's finest. Once again, I did not say that the death roll is the same as chewing.
From what you say, it sounds as if the death roll is along the same lines as chewing. A human bites and rips part of it's food off, a croc on the other hand bites then rolls to rip the food off. It then swallows it whole, no chewing needed. So really a death roll isn't much of an alternative to anything, it's more like another way to rip food apart.
Saying that, let's not get another argument going. Nice pics and facts!

We chew to break food down. The Crocodile death-rolls for similar reasons. A crocodile can't chew, so it death-rolls instead. That's where I'm coming from.
But anyway...enough of that...I'll try for another factoid soon.

The Okapi (Okapia johnstoni) was one of the last large animals to be indentified, in 1901.
(http://img79.imageshack.us/img79/7286/okapika8.th.jpg) (http://img79.imageshack.us/my.php?image=okapika8.jpg)
-
The MGM lion isn't roaring. Wow, well you learn something every day and i've just learnt several things from this thread! :slol:
-
I haven't learned much yet as I know most of the facts, but they're still outstanding even so.
-
Wow I thought Okapi were discovered later. :surprise:
-
Nope, but it's still cool that such a large animal had eluded us for so long.
PS: I might be from the Sahara, but not the Congo!
-
I'm afraid that numerous problems with the game have forced me to uninstall and reinstall the game completely, thus removing all the screenshots I had. I'm afraid, therefore, this will be postponed until further notice.
-
Oh no!!!! :crying: :boohoo: Sure miss those screenshots and facts... I wonder if you'll do one for us fennecs...
-
If this is postponed until further notice - it is therefore :signclosed: PM a moderator when you are able to play again and want it re-opened :)
