She' already been confiscated and is looking for a new home. Should we take her in?

Our top architects designed a beautiful savannah exhibit. We used it and here it is now:

http://img97.imageshack.us/my.php?image=savannahexhibitml8.jpg (http://img97.imageshack.us/my.php?image=savannahexhibitml8.jpg)

We have adopted the female hyena. We'll allow her time to settle in. Here are some pics:

http://img97.imageshack.us/my.php?image=hyenarestingne9.jpg (http://img97.imageshack.us/my.php?image=hyenarestingne9.jpg)
http://img97.imageshack.us/my.php?image=hyena1kx9.jpg (http://img97.imageshack.us/my.php?image=hyena1kx9.jpg)
Obviously she's loving her new home.
She needs a name! Who can think of one? And if there's any carnivorous animal in need of help, please tell me. I am taking in requests!

We have some new arrivals. They are a pair of caracals (male and female). They were no longer wanted at their former zoo and were going to be euthanized. But thanks to our intervention, they now have a new home.

http://img220.imageshack.us/my.php?image=caracalscw4.jpg (http://img220.imageshack.us/my.php?image=caracalscw4.jpg)

The caracals and the hyena need names! Post your ideas here!

Fun idea Hyena Girl! How about for the male caracal: Gelukkig - it's Dutch - call him Luk for short

For the female: Chanceux - French - call her Chancey

Both names mean "Lucky"

Thanks everyone.
The caracals have been aptly named Luk and Chancey and the female hyena is called Sun.
Any carnivores need help, just post here!

We have recieved and a telegram from Kenya. A village says that they have a hyena that needs a new home. Should we take in the animal?

After much careful consideration, we decided to take in the hyena.
His name is Jasisi (Swahili for 'Shadow'). He was born in the wild but his mother was killed by lions when he was two months old. Some children found him and kept him as a pet for three years. When he was fully mature, he started to kill sheep and goats, hence his arrival at our facility.
http://img181.imageshack.us/my.php?image=jasisiwl4.jpg (http://img181.imageshack.us/my.php?image=jasisiwl4.jpg)

Sun comes over to greet him.
http://img181.imageshack.us/my.php?image=sunandjasisiic8.jpg (http://img181.imageshack.us/my.php?image=sunandjasisiic8.jpg)

Our facility is going to be opened to the public. But the sanctuary needs a name. Any ideas anyone?

Hmmm... How about Aneyh Park. (Aneyh is 'Hyena' spelled backwards)
Title: Hyena Girl's Zoos

Aneyh Park is now open to the public and guests are flooding in. They have already been entertained by the funny antics of Sun and Jasisi. They've learnt that hyenas are not dogs, they are more closely related to cats, and that female hyenas are more dominant. This is very true, see this pic of these two clowns:

She wants our from under the tree, NOW.

Any wolves lion crocs etc need help. Post here in this thread.

are you using any user-made downloads? cuz at the Zoo Tycoon 2 designing center there's this sloth bear available for download, so here goes...

A sloth bear has escaped from a local zoo and has been terrorizing a neighbor hood in search of food. he is starved and considered dangerous and needs a place to live. will you take him?

Here he is enjoying his new home:

Dear Aneyh Park,
Recently, a large crocodilian was found in an urban town. It is not known if he is a crocodile, or alligator, as the only ones who have seen him do not know the difference. He has already taken several family dogs, and even a small calf! He is becoming a major problem, and is getting more aggressive than ever. The locals have called him Nezbit, and they don't want him to die, but they want him gone.

We now have four new arrivals at Aneyh Park. The first is Nezbit, a creature that has been causing a lot of truoble recently. Our top zookeepers identify him as an aliigator. He's become a big hit with the guests, especially children.
http://img222.imageshack.us/my.php?image=nezbitpw9.jpg (http://img222.imageshack.us/my.php?image=nezbitpw9.jpg)
The second is Sue, a dingo that used to be a pet. She's very friendly and all the guests love her. With her, we started a guest education program on keeping wild animals as pets and identifying certain members of the dog family, so people don't get confused.
http://img222.imageshack.us/my.php?image=sueir6.jpg (http://img222.imageshack.us/my.php?image=sueir6.jpg)
She now needs another dingo to keep her company.
The third and fourth are Sun's two new hyena pups. A hyena clan has begun!
Male Pup:
http://img222.imageshack.us/my.php?image=malepupgv3.jpg (http://img222.imageshack.us/my.php?image=malepupgv3.jpg)
Female Pup:

In case you didn't notice, hyena pups are born black or dark brown. They start to get their spotted coat at four months. These two need names!
Thanks people, and keep posting!:IloveZA:

Dear Aneyh Park,
Thank you very much for taking in Nezbit. From the photo, we can tell that he is quite happy in his new home, and the townsfolk have all decided to come one day, some time or another. We all thank you for your kindness, and we hope that Nezbit will live a long life in Aneyh Park.

Thanks guys. Aneyh Park has three new arrivals. The first two are Martine and Bethan, two baby caracals. When Chancey gave birth to them, we were all a little surprised, beacuse the last time we checked, she didn't seem pregnant in any way.

A nearby zoo was pleased with our efforts and donated us a breeding pair of Bengal tigers. The animals are nameless (ideas anyone?) Here's a picture of the tigress swimming in her new pool.

Oh my yes!

It has recently come to the attention of the Central Michigan University police that a pair of wolverines were somehow accumulated by a few of the students. The students were keeping the wolverines in an apartment building off campus, were malnourished and kept in the bathroom. The students hoped to use the animals in a prank against the University of Michigan, whose mascot is the Wolverine. The animals were discovered when a party at the apartment got out of control, and police were called to settle the disturbance. Upon arriving to the scene, the wolverines were found to be, for lack of a better word, drunk, as the students at the party had deemed it funny to pour alcohol down the furry critters's throat. The animals were confiscated and taken to the Isabella County Humane Society, but they cannot stay there long. Please, can you take these mistreated animals in?

(BTW, the names are real, the situation is complete fiction, just in case anyone is curious)

Thanks Mika. The new wolverines are recovering well and have settled down into their new home. They're still a bit queasy but otherwise fine. I have named them Mitch and Alice.

A local zoo has been forced to shut down due to animal cruelty. This has left a male and female polar bear without a home.  Please could you take them in. As we have no room here.

I got one!

Representatives from the International Humane Society(IHS) stationed in a small part of Brazil near Sao Paulo are calling out for your help. In this part of Brazil, animals are illegally sold on the black market very often. Some of our representatives have found tortoises, alive and dead, adult male lions, Gorillas, Snakes, even pandas that are trying to be sold. They busted a group of animal smigglers that had smuggled over twenty animals from all over the world here, hoping to make money. Most of the animals are being kept by the International Humane Society Refuge, but 5 Baird's tapirs have no room in our zoo. Right now, the two males and three females are ina pen in the back of the refuge, waiting for someone to pick them up. Can you take them?

Thanks people. We've just recieved a pair of polar bears, awaiting to be named. We've also rescued five Baird's Tapirs. We don't usually take in herbivores but we knew that we were the only ones left who could help. Besides, people want to see more than just predators.
Sue, our dingo, has given birth to Jeff and Frodo, two new puppies.
My computer isn't working properly so there aren't any pictures. I'll try to get them ASAP.

Hi guys. This is the first of many zoos, sanctuaries and wildlife safaris that I'll be doing. This is a small inner-city zoo. It needs a name.

Luna is a white wolf (http://img329.imageshack.us/my.php?image=lunakl8.jpg). She shares an exhibit with another wolf called Lupus (you'll see a pic of him later).
Finfoot, (http://img329.imageshack.us/my.php?image=finfootss3.jpg) one of my sea lions and a camel (http://img329.imageshack.us/my.php?image=camelwz1.jpg)

Sorry Hyena Girl, but I had to merge your threads. Each member is only allowed one S&T topic - if we didn't limit it, we'd have a million closed threads in here and that's no fun for anyone to look through

Title: My trek through the desert
Post by: Hyena Girl on December 07, 2006, 10:38:34 AM
I've decided to get away from the zoo for a while and go back to the wild! I am staying in Morocco. After spending a week on the Barbary Coast fishing, shopping and sunbathing, I decided to go on a safari into a desert oasis wildlife reserve.
I arrived in the late morning, and take my first photograph! (http://img45.imageshack.us/my.php?image=desertvb2.jpg)
It was hot and dusty, but I was too excited to care.:sweatingb  The tourguide, Marc, didn't speak English but he spoke French. I know French so I understood everything he said. He took me to meet the camels at the tourist centre. They were lovely and maybe...a little too friendly. I took a snapshot of the male camel (http://img45.imageshack.us/my.php?image=cameldy3.jpg), who led the caravan.

Later, we trekked out into the desert. It was midday and boiling. Suddenly, we heard snorting and the pound of hooves. What animal were we going to see next?

To be continued......
Title: Hyena Girl's Zoos
Post by: Hyena Girl on December 08, 2006, 10:24:34 AM
I turn, and I see a herd of addax (http://img45.imageshack.us/my.php?image=addaxea4.jpg) on the move. Marc said that they were very rare beause of habitat destructions. This particular herd need not fear though, they are safe in the reserve. Marc said that they were not the only endangered antelope in North Africa. We were also looking for some scimitar horned oryx.
We walk on, looking for more wildlife. Suddenly, Marc stopped me and pointed. Then I saw a pair of tortoises (http://img165.imageshack.us/my.php?image=tortoisesey5.jpg) Marc told me that these particular tortoises were smuggled from the wild and sold in the pet trade. The previous owner of the tortoises bought them as a Christmas present one year, but gave them to the local zoo when she found out where they came from. The zookeepers decided that the tortoises should have another chance for freedom, so they were given to the reserve.

Warning: Images of death. This might upset very young children. There isn't any blood. Mods, just tell me if it is unsuitable and I'll delete it.
We move towards an oasis; it was territory belonging to a clan of striped hyenas. Unlike the famous spotted hyena which hunts most of its prey, the striped hyena mostly scavenges. However at dawn and dusk, Marc said the tables would turn.
I hear rustling in the bushes. Out of them came a pair of fennec foxes. (http://img361.imageshack.us/my.php?image=foxesws9.jpg)
They hopped and skipped round, unaware of our presence. They looked so joyful and so happy. They easily put a smile on my face. We went back to the hotel to prepare sandwiches and flasks of hot chocolate. For tonight, we were going to find the hyenas.

Marc woke me up at about one o'clock in the morning. We took a Jeep out to the oasis. I heard screams, whoops and hight pitched excited cackles. Then we saw the hyenas. Marc told me that they were more closely related to cats than dogs. This particular clan was used to humans watching them, and many approached the vehicle with curious eyes. I snapped a quick photo of a young male. (http://img361.imageshack.us/my.php?image=hyenank1.jpg)
We watched them until the early hours of the morning.
Then suddenly they all stopped, crouched and started to stalk. (http://img45.imageshack.us/my.php?image=hyenasonthehuntje1.jpg) I then saw what they were hunting. There was nothing I could do to save the pair of fennec foxes; the same ones that had brought such joy to me. The hunt was on! One fox managed to escape but the other was caught and killed.: :( :  In all of the horror, I managed to take a picture. (http://img139.imageshack.us/my.php?image=inforthekilluc6.jpg)
Title: Hyena Girl's Zoos
Post by: Hyena Girl on December 10, 2006, 01:30:38 AM
I cried all the way back to the hotel. Marc tried to console me by saying the hyenas were only trying to survive; they weren't killing for fun. If they didn't kill, then they couldn't eat, and if they couldn't eat, they'll starve to death. It was just the way nature worked. I knew that and I accepted it. But I still felt sad for the other fennec fox, who was on his own now.

By the afternoon, I caught up on all of my sleep. We were now going to a special corner of the reserve, where some scimitar horned oryx had been sighted. When we arrived, I couldn't believe my luck! There were two oryx standing underneath a tree. A third emerged, and galloped away. I knew they were an endangered species and their fate was decided upon a small nimber of reserves like this one, and many zoos and parks around the world.

Two Oryx (http://img177.imageshack.us/my.php?image=oryxesvg7.jpg)
An Oryx galloping (http://img177.imageshack.us/my.php?image=oryx1sq7.jpg)

I leave the reserve now, and say goodbye to Marc and all the staff at the hotel and visitor centre. I wanted to stay out here in the Sahara, but I needed to catch a plane to England. I learnt that the desert is a cruel place, but yet very beautiful at the same time.

Bravo,Bravo! I love that story. You must have great graphics. When the fennec fox was being attacked it looked like it was hiding in a tornado drill or something XD.

Thank you Sagey! And thank you for all the support. I had a fun time making it. What should I do next? A zoo, a rescue centre or another wild adventure?
Title: Bright River World
Post by: Hyena Girl on December 23, 2006, 09:45:29 AM
Several months have passed, and I still think of my adventure in the desert. But now I am embarking on a new adventure:

I finally arrived in the USA. After departing the airport in Detroit, I spent a week of jetlag, shopping and meals out. But this is not a mere holiday. I've been called to the suburbs of the city to help out at a place called Bright River World. It's a small zoo that cares for wetland animals - and two of Africa's most dangerous mammals. It breeds an endangered species of cat and promotes the importance of the wetlands ecosystem thruogh guest education.

Hippo (http://img177.imageshack.us/my.php?image=hippovu0.jpg) - an of our dangerous African mammals. More people are killed by hippos than by lions.
Flamingoes (http://img177.imageshack.us/my.php?image=flamingoyu0.jpg) - not so dangerous (well they can give you a nasty peck LOL!)
Nile Monitor (http://img177.imageshack.us/my.php?image=moniterak9.jpg) - a truly fascinating reptile.

But that is not all. What about the endangered cat? Or the other dangerous African Mammal? When I ask this to the zookeepers, they life and say that's for next time....

Well, hupdo, if you guessed African Buffalo, then you were wrong I mean right. Here's cute little calf (http://img187.imageshack.us/my.php?image=calfnl5.jpg) and a notsocute Bull (http://img187.imageshack.us/my.php?image=bulley4.jpg).
As I looked at the little calf running around, I wondered how they could be so dangerous? But I was still inclined to believe this fact, because these animals can kill a lion. I walked on and observed a Nile Crocodile (http://img177.imageshack.us/my.php?image=crocgy6.jpg). But a surprise was in store for me. Next to the buffaloes was the Florida panther exhibit. The panthers were not camera shy at all, as seen here! (http://img177.imageshack.us/my.php?image=floraak6.jpg) There a breeding program for the panthers but still, no results yet.....

But this was more than just a trip to the zoo. I was going to help out at Bright River World. The zoo has a beaver conservation program. The beavers have a huge exhibit and the zoo's goal is to create a thriving colony of beavers. There are only four beavers but the number is expected to increase in the near future. Here are the beavers at the moment:

Betty (http://img297.imageshack.us/my.php?image=bettyiy0.jpg)
Bert (http://img186.imageshack.us/my.php?image=bertab4.jpg)
And their children Nina (http://img186.imageshack.us/my.php?image=nina2bi2.jpg) and Nava (http://img186.imageshack.us/my.php?image=nava2gu7.jpg).

A crate  (http://img155.imageshack.us/my.php?image=cratekh8.jpg)has been delivered to the main entrance. The crate is something called Fonda, which baffled me.
When 'Fonda' was released, it turned out to be a beaver! Here she is. (http://img155.imageshack.us/my.php?image=fondasv4.jpg)

We left her for a while, and when we came back, she had settled in with the other beavers. In fact, Bert insisted on doing home improvements by expanding the dam.

Thanks Germanwolf.:original:
Many weeks passed and soon it was time to go.
I wanted to stay longer, but I knew that I had to leave. But before I left, there was one last surprise for me.....

The beavers home was once again being expanded (http://img77.imageshack.us/my.php?image=homeimprovementsld3.jpg). It was for Betty's two new twin babies! (http://img77.imageshack.us/my.php?image=babiesqg3.jpg)The colony was bigger and more secure, and one day, they might go back to the wild.....

Title: African Safari
Post by: Hyena Girl on January 01, 2007, 11:52:24 AM
Africa called again. But this time, it wasn't to the Sahara desert. It was to the mighty African plains! Join me on my adventure into Kenya, and experience lions, giraffes, elephants and many more as we journey into wild.....

As I drove through the reserve, I saw nothing but tall grass and acacias. I saw a flash of ginger sprint through the grass. I stopped. The creature stopped. It was nothing more than a harmless Thomson's gazelle. (http://img410.imageshack.us/my.php?image=gazellexx5.jpg) He didn't mind me, but he still seemed nervous. I looked around, and saw why. A trio of hyenas (http://img410.imageshack.us/my.php?image=hyenas1fk5.jpg) was creeping towards the unsuspecting Tommy.  They crept closer and closer.....
Maybe it was the harsh cry of the birds overhead, or the gazelle sensed my fear. Whatever it was, the gazelle sprung away as fast as it could. (http://img410.imageshack.us/my.php?image=gazellerunningmr4.jpg)
The hyenas (http://img410.imageshack.us/my.php?image=morehyenaskd7.jpg) stopped stalking. They would probably have better luck at night, where they wouldn't be seen. I travel on. I wonder what is next......

I stop the jeep. A mixed herd of giraffe (http://img410.imageshack.us/my.php?image=giraffenv0.jpg) browse nearby. The leaves on the trees would provide them with fresh food, but they were also here because of a nearby waterhole. I drive to it, and see a herd of elephants. (http://img410.imageshack.us/my.php?image=elephantsdt8.jpg) But there were more than just elephants and giraffes. A black rhino  (http://img111.imageshack.us/my.php?image=rhinozz8.jpg)and three ostrich  (http://img111.imageshack.us/my.php?image=ostrichrf5.jpg)were here for food and water. I wanted to look at the animals for longer but sadly, the sun was going down and I had to return to my tent.
As I drove back, I heard grunting and snorting. A herd of wildebeest  (http://img111.imageshack.us/my.php?image=wildebeestks6.jpg)was passing by. And as the light started to fade, I caught a glimpse (and a photo) of a cheetah (http://img111.imageshack.us/my.php?image=cheetahao8.jpg).

I woke up late; I couldn't sleep because of the hyenas. They had been whooping and cackling all night. They'd obviously made a kill. I wanted to see the cheetah again, so right after breakfast, I was back in the wild. A herd of Thomson's gazelle grazed outside the vehicle. Then I saw the cheetah.
She was crouching in the grass (http://img406.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dangerpq5.jpg), ready to surprise an unsuspecting gazelle.....
I moved on away from the carnage. The other gazelles (http://img297.imageshack.us/my.php?image=gazellerunningoy1.jpg) were safe, for now.
A little while later, I heard snuffling and snorting in the grass. A warthog (http://img297.imageshack.us/my.php?image=warthoguc4.jpg) was enjoying his lunch in the grass. According to the safari guide, he practically was lunch, being prey for lions, hyenas, cheetahs and leopards.
I went to cool off at a waterhole. A herd of zebra (http://img297.imageshack.us/my.php?image=zebraee5.jpg) arrived, thirsty for water. I moved a slight distance away. Suddenly, something popped into my head. Where there's zebra, there's lions.....

Thanks. Your zoo is great!
And now, the adventure continues....

I took another photo (http://img100.imageshack.us/img100/3228/zebra1av9.jpg) of the zebras. They now seemed very nervous. And I saw why. A pride of lions (http://img297.imageshack.us/img297/4909/lionstw1.jpg) lay in the grass nearby. They didn't appear to be hunting. I heard a rustling. A lioness (http://img409.imageshack.us/img409/7269/lionpf4.jpg) was prowling through the grass. Of course, there was no chance of her catching prey; zebras have strong kick that could break her jaw. If she wanted zebra meat, she'd have to wait until the rest of the lionesses wanted to hunt. I moved on.
Towards the late afternoon, I passed by a patch of grass. I heard whining and whimpering in the grass. An African Wild Dog (http://img409.imageshack.us/img409/13/wilddognj6.jpg) emerged. I heard more dogs in the grass. I watched their antics late into the evening. Soon, the sun started to set over Africa. (http://img179.imageshack.us/img179/277/africansunnq3.jpg) The dogs started to go to sleep in a heap. Like the cheetah, they didn't hunt at night. I started to feel just like these dogs. (http://img409.imageshack.us/img409/3507/heaphi6.jpg)

The next morning, I packed my trunk (no pun intended: :P : ) and l left the reserve. I drove through the grasslands of Kenya. I stopped. Next to the road, a giraffe silently walked past (http://img409.imageshack.us/img409/6553/giraffe1iw6.jpg). It was this beautiful charismatic animal that reminded me of the jewel I was leaving behind. But I decided once and for all that I would one day return.......
