Post by: sheltiefan on December 16, 2006, 03:37:29 PM: I've decided to start an S&T thread to show off some of my zoos. I'm not the best zoo builder so don't be surprised if my pics aren't that spectacular:blushing:. I'll try to add updates every couple of days but there are no guarantees.

I've been working on a zoo for some time now, it doesn't have a name because... well I couldn't think of one lol. To start off here we have the entrance

Up ahead we spot the zoos first exhibit

As we near closer we see it's filled with a group of asiatic black bears. This one appears to be a bit drowsy

There also seem to be a couple of cubs in the exhibit. Aren't they adorable :wub:.

thats a good start to a zoo IMO(in my option)
if it were my zoo though i would make it alittle more hilly. but thats just me iv grown up around alot of hills and mountins so for some reason i make my zoos look like where i live.

Well I live in a very mountainous area and have my whole life. But I generally like to keep the guest areas in my zoo very flat, I do however like to use a lot of hills in my exhibits. I guess it's just a matter of personal preference.

So as promised here are the pics of the primate house. I know it looks pretty bad, I'm not very happy with how it turned out. I'll post half of the pics for it today and half tomorrow.

We approach the looming structure and walk inside.

There is a path heading to the right from which we can see the gorillas, barbary apes and geladas and another path to the left that has orangutans and crested gibbons. We decide to head right. The first exhibit we come across is the gorillas.

As we near closer we see what appears to be some sort of covered viewing area with glass windows through which to see the animals.

Upon entering the structure we see a herd of white rhinos, the scrub exhibits massive inhabitants.

We exit the glass window viewing area and circle around the exhibit to find a second relaxing spot from which we can sit and watch the rhinos. Let's hope LadyZ doesn't mind my using a checkerboard path here.

Post by: sheltiefan on January 10, 2007, 05:51:28 PM: Sorry for not posting any pictures for the last while but I've had a lot going on and playing Zoo Tycoon wasn't my top priority. However I've recently finished a new zoo and thought I might show some pictures.

I've called the zoo "Island Zoo" because... well it's got a bunch of islands scattered throughout the map (yeah I'm not very creative:lolol:). Unfortunately it didn't come out quite as I had hoped since the water area is divided up into numerous marine exhibits so it sort of lost the whole island look. Anyways here it is.

First the entrance. I'm happy with how it came out, it's not that decorated but it looks nice and peaceful.

As we keep walking we see a restaurant and bathroom tucked behind a fountain.

To the left of the restaurant is an elevated path that offers a view of the land section of the sea lion/false killer whale exhibit.

Unfortunately, one of the first things I usually do is flatten out everything so I can build where I want *Bad Nique*... lol... I decided that instead of using snow for their exhibit I'd use a combination of rock, grass and dirt since it not only doesn't make sense to have snow in a zoo that otherwise looks very warm and tropical but there isn't snow year round in the arctic anyways. I'm really pleased with how it came out and I'd like to thank Nique for her foliage pack which really helped spruce the exhibit up :happy:.

And I must say I love the idea of using islands too. I first thought of it when I only had ZT2 but after all the effort I put in to making it the limited water effects, lack of having a means to build over the water with anything other than land and the fact that the water area was useless kind of put me off the idea. But after they released MM2 I actually remembered the idea and finally had the means to pull if off.

I tend to avoid using a lot of elevation in guest areas, not being sure how the guests will feel about climbing about a lot! :laughing: Do you ever notice any decrease in guest happiness? Sorry if that sounds cheeky; I know I wouldn't mind the elevation if I was a guest! :laughing:

Unless it's too steep for them to climb and therefore prevents them from getting around. Although I'll admit I don't really care about how happy my guests are or not :badgnome:. However I don't use elevation in food courts or viewing areas for the most part because the guest objects will automatically flatten the ground around them which leaves funny looking plateaus all over the zoo.

I started this zoo months ago, literally. And it's still not done but I'm getting close. It doesn't really have a name, my zoos rarely do lol so I just call it "River Valley Zoo" since there's a river flowing through the middle (no I'm not very creative :blush:).

The mountainous region and the effects of the water are GREAT!
and that exhibit, VERY cool! you fit so many scub creatures in that exhibit! I coud never do that ;)
