Issues/Glitches with African Adventure
« on: May 21, 2006, 10:17:08 AM »
I recently got the XP, and while I do enjoy it, there are still some issues that should be corrected.  Maybe listing them is more likely to get them patched, or repaired in the next game.

-Animals still escape with alarming ease, going through fences somehow

-wildebeest occasionally turn transparent.  I've had two of them become like ghost wildebeest where you could actually see through them.

-white rhinos are the same size as black rhinos.  Even in the little dictionary function it mentions that white rhinos are significantly larger than black rhinos, so why were they made the same size?  Also, why are white rhinos not considered endangered?  I'm pretty sure that all rhino species are on the protected species lists right now.

-secretary birds take down antelope.  I'm not sure why, but I've lost a few antelope to secretary birds, and that isn't right for an animal that hunts small lizards, rodents and insects.

-In general, animals seem to attack each other more.  Too much in fact.  I keep losing wolves, crocodiles, and surprisingly meerkats because of in-fighting.

-Finally, the game really needs extra large maps.  Large maps just aren't big enough.

If you have more glitches that you notice, please add them to the list.  Hopefully they'll get the notice of the good people at Blue Fang.

Another one to add to the list:

Animals sporadically complain about being in a dirty exhibit, when there's no poop around.

I don't think it's a bad idea to get these out there as soon as possible.  Maybe they'll be fixed by the time the UK gets the game?  I wouldn't be put off.  I enjoy the game and the new animals, I'd just like to see some of these things addressed.

The glitches aren't anything bad really. They are to be expected by anygame. Don't let them put you off. And they'll probably be fixed soon.

Funny, most of the glitches people get I've never experienced!

I can explain one glitch: the "escaping animals". It normally happens when you get larger zoos, because, as the game progresses, the game sometimes "chops" when you move over a place where you haven't been for a long time. So, when the map moves, the people and animals don't. There's no real fix for this problem other than to keep looking around your entire zoo alot.:original:

Hope this helps!

Well what happens to me (in ZT2, ES, and AA), is that the animals just run into the fece and pop out the other side.

I think that's the same thing; just a small glitch/ "chop" in the game. There's really nothing you can do about it. Like, if you put two flowerbeds side-by-side and run at them (using the up, shift and spacebar) you "chop" through them.

This may be true, however, it is a glitch that hopefully can be fixed by Blue Fang.  It results in animals that are unhappy because they can't get to food or water, and guests unhappy because there's an animal running around in the crowd.  It means you can't just leave the game running for a bit if you're waiting for something, because there will be animals that will get loose, scare off the guests and then get sick and die.  It's been a problem since ZT2 first came out, so it's time to find a solution.

White rhinos are considered lower risk. There are more of 11,000 individuals alive.

To be fair, I've never had escaping animals or ghost animals. Also, I think you could put the Rhino thing down as more of a design flaw than a glitch.

I posted this elsewhere, but I think it's more appropriate for this thread:

The spectacled bears can eat the live lizards but they're too slow to catch them - so they spend a month trying to catch them, fail and all their attributes go to red.

I'm building a zoo for all the animals in it, it has an elevated path for the walking path. On this elevated path is a Jeep tour, so it has ramps going down into exhibits, on one of them it matches up with the ground find, on the other side it doesn't... i've leveled the terrain across the two areas, but for some reason animals can get up one side (by walking through the fencing over the ramp) but not the other.

Guests keep falling into exhibits. Again, I don't know what the issue is here... they still have the teleporting buildings, but it's only in my Grasslands and Desert exhibits that guests are falling in. I'm not sure what the issue is because I have similiar buildings elsewhere in the zoo.

I normally start with 2 female, 1 male for most species. The secretary birds always kill off the extra female.

This is exactly what's happening with my wolves, hyenas and crocodiles.  The extra female keeps getting killed off which makes it very tough to get a sustainable population, especially in challenge mode, where now getting a particular animal is getting more difficult when you have a five star zoo.

Maybe they should expand the number you can choose from as the numbers of choices increases as well?

I know Adam. I've had this problem too long. It sucks when you get a 5-star zoo.:pinch:

Maybe if you start with 2 males and 2 females, will the Secretary Birds still kill each other?

I also noticed that for the fame rating, it takes longer to get the rating bar up for number of species, because there's more to choose from.  Or at least it seemed to be the case for me.

Problems/Glitches
« Reply #17 on: May 22, 2006, 09:36:31 AM »
I haven't had a lot of these problems, actually. I had noticed the death toll going up as animals attacked and killed each other, but I thought it was the new African Adventures animals being more aggressive, my not knowing what they needed to be happy yet, etc. So far I've only lost a few this way.

I haven't had ghost animals (How creepy!) but I do have an escape issue. The Gerenuks just run rampant. I used the new desert window fence. Is this the same fence everyone is having problems with?

I've had people getting stuck on raised walkways, specifically the ramps. They get stuck there and bounce off each other until I manually move them. They seem to go up OK but coming down I get a little traffic jam there and then they are all tired, hungry, need the bathroom, etc. Anyone else? Also, my zoo keepers get stuck under the raised walkways.

However, glitches aside, this is still my favorite game by far!

Another issue.  There should be a way to turn off the helicopters.  I find that if there's one thing that crashes my game it's the helicopters.  My game never crashes except during releasing animals to the wild.  It was the same with Endangered Species.

I have had absolutely NO trouble with the Desert Window Fence. it's quite clear, and no one escapes from it. Should be okay.

I believe the glitch in question is not with that particular fence but with all fences.  Certain animals almost magically end up on the wrong side of the fence by accident.  I think that another person's explanation above might be correct.  That being that with the lag, if an animal is running or interacting with something at the edge of an exhibit, occasionally they'll just accidentally end up on the far side when the game "jumps" a little bit.  This is frustrating because it usually results in an angry animal, by the time it's noticed, or worse, if a predator gets bumped in to another exhibit, it could end up in the death of an animal.  It definitely restricts your ability to leave the game running if you're trying to just build up your finances.
