I've noticed some strange things with the giraffes. I had 2 reticulated giraffes give birth to a masai giraffe. Has this happened to anyone else? Does anyone know why?

ooh wow, we need to do some experimenting, maybe this masai giraffe isn't such a normal thing like we thought

Cool! so there's a possibilty that we are able to cross-breed Reticulated and Masai's together to create a hybrid!

i think that when the giraffes interbreed, they take on the skin of their mother.

I've had a male reticulated giraffe father a calf with a female Masai giraffe. The calf was a Masai giraffe.

Umm this isn't about interbreeding its about a species giving birth to another species. I think they messed up the interbreeding. I have a pic of it if anyone wants to see.

this is actually really interesting and cool, in game genetics, WOOT WOOT, i have the answers i believe...Male Masai+Female Reticulated=Masai Calf  Male Reticulated+Female Masai=Masai Calf, its really cool, i will continue my tests as well, i will post pics in a while, i have to put them on photobucket.

Is that what masi babys look like or is it a hybrid? (like a mixed skin)

I think it dependes on the mother if the mother was reticulated then the baby would be reticulated and visa versa.

If 2 masai giraffes breed then you might get a retic. ? Odd.

Is there no way to keep the herd pure ?

You could get rid of the retic. I put a male and a female masai giraffe and a reticulated female in an exhibit. Both females got pregnant both Masai babies, bred Retic.XMasai to reticulated and baby is Masai. I don't get it.

this is so much fun, why don't we try and breed the F2 generations, like the masai calf that came from a cross between a ret. and a masai, and then breed it to a pure ret. calf or something, just an idea

I was excited when I heard this.

Of course, I don't like the Reticulated Giraffes; prefer the Masai Giraffes much much more.  Only use them now.

Still, it's awesome to know this can happen.
