I have a problem with meerkats. They will not drink! I keep putting them right in front of a water dish but they will just walk off.:pout:

Try putting in a natural body of water. They normally go for that. Don't worry, meerkats can swim.

Make sure that the water dish is not directly next to a fence or another object.  If it is like that, they sometimes won't go for it since they are somehow unable to reach it.

If this is for a whole mob of meerkats you may need 2 to 3 bowls of water for them. For some reason mine don't like to share. Though the natural water seems to work even though I never see mine drinking from it. It works great to keep them from digging out of their exhibit :D

You can sell off the water dishes, make a pool of water for them, and put them in it. Sometimes they won't drink from pools until they've been 'baptized'. If there are water dishes, they will go for them rather than for the pool.

Another thing is that whenever you get the message "X is really thirsty!" the animal's action will automatically switch to 'Looking for something to drink' even if it was going to drink before.

Meerkats are also really social. Check their actions. If they have other basic needs to fulfill, let them. But if all they can think about is hanging out, you may have to quarantine them.

Meerkats Are real social but they live in little gangs, and are very protective of their land so make sure that each gang has their own water.

Yeah, this happened to me one time... I put in some (shallow) water and they were fine.

This seems to happen to me too, ocasionally,- but only to the females. Usually if I put in a body of water they seem fine, but water dishes always seem to have them be unable to drink.
