Idea for How to Access Dino Danger files
« on: February 26, 2007, 02:39:15 PM »
I've been toying around with making animals for ZT2 for a while now and realized that you can change the file extensions of files in Winrar such as xml to beh so you can easily access them and then switch them back as far as a know without damaging the file.  I have DD2 and managed to open DD2 beh and tsk files in notepad before. Maybe if we make a copy of the main DD2 file and open it in winrar, change the file extensions of the xml, dds, nif files, etc. to beh or tsk, open them in notepad, copy and paste the coding in the file, put that coding into a text document, and then rename that text document the same name as the original DD2 file, and then replace the original DD2 animal's name in the whom the xml, nif etc. file belonged to to the animal you want to make's codename so you could start making an animal.
I don't know if this idea will work but it could be a way to make DD2 files accessible through renaming and copying onto a text document so to we can make new DD2 animals!

I tried doing what I said, the files can be renamed but I still can't open them.  I'll have to work with it more on it in Winrar.  Is it possible that Winrar is not the right software for working with DD files and that we need a program the makers of Dino Danger were using?  Maybe there be another software that would let us open DD files that we haven't found out about yet.  I would try to do a search for another software and download one myself but I'm terrible at figuring out programs I've never used before.  Does anyone know of or could find a program that could easily open DD files?

Ok, I'll try find 7 zip, download it, and tell you how it goes.

Update: I successfully downloaded 7 zip but 7 zip won't let me open the DD files and says they are "broken" (corrupted) like in Winrar.
Wolfkid92, can you give me any tips on how to possibly open the DD files with 7 zip or make the file error messages not appear so I can open the files.

In the mean time I'll just keep on working with both Winrar and 7 zip.

Thanks.

The DD files are locked against opening.  I doubt you'll ever find a way.

its not really a lock, its just a special way they packages it so that that all zipping programs think its currupted.

I think the company who ran the download may have put a lock on the file... I cant see any other reason why this would happen since BF never locks the game files.

I downloaded Nucleus-Kernel-ZIP-Demo.exe which fixes corrupt zip files. I successfully got to the part where it checks for errors but wouldn't let me fix the DD files without buying the full version of Nucleus-Kernel-ZIP. I can't afford to buy Nucleus Kernel Zip plus it might not even work if I get it so maybe I we should look for a program to unlock the DD files, not fix their corruption.  Has anyone heard of a download or program to "unlock" files?

You know, hacking into these files is probably illegal, and there is a reason they were locked:  to prevent people accessing them and redistributing them over the Internet, as the files were pay-to-download and if people unlocked them to distribute for free, then they'd lose out on money.

It's really not a matter of whether or not you think that they should be getting more money or not. That's not how the world works. If you created something that you were earning profits on, I'm sure you would be upset if people bypassed security measures you had put in. It takes a lot of money to create a successful game, and its not just the company that hurts when people do stuff like that, its the employees with families that suffer. Less money to the company means less money available to pay workers which equals layoffs. And layoffs to to consumer mean that there is a delay in output since the amount of human input has gone down.

So really, no one wins like that.
