Downloading Question
« on: March 19, 2007, 06:30:04 PM »
I just started trying to Download things, and am having trouble, I have read some of the other topics, to see what others have suggested, and tried them, but they won't work. I downloaded WinZip onto my computer, put the downloaded file there, and then tried to extract it to zootycoon_com_zt2_1033 folder, but it did not let me. It kep on saying 'Access denied. Unable to create directory:D:/PLC/zootycoon_com_zt2_1033/reptilegpt. I've tried about two diffrent ways, and none seem to work.

If it says D:/PLC/zootycoon_com_zt2_1033/reptilegpt then you're trying to unzip it to a CD and not onto where Zoo Tycoon "lives". Zoo Tycoon "lives" at C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Zoo Tycoon 2. That's where you need to extract your animals. But the question is: where did you get the downloads? We don't have any right now. They need to be re-loaded on this site.

Once the downloads are in the game files, you don't have to redownload them again.  The downloads should show up in the selection screens inside one of the modes, either freeform or campaign, unless the downloads are ambients.

I dont understand a thing, you downloaded it???
If you downloaded it you have to put the folder with the z2f and the dl in the folder that clessburg said you and then go to the downloads panel in the game and see if the downloads are activeted.

Yeah, it has the downloaded animal's name listed on the downloads, and its suppost to say 'download' and then you click that, and it works, well there is no link to download it. it said 'download' once when I tried it, but it only downloaded the Holiday Pack again.
I'll try it again.

The download option inside the game only works for official downloads, not for user made downloads.

You download the file.
Extract the folder or .z2f from the .zip using WinZip or WinRar.
Put the .z2f inside you C:/Program Files/Microsoft Games/Zoo Tycoon 2 folder -OR- put the folder and/or .dl in your C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft Games\Zoo Tycoon 2\downloads folder (have to have "Show Hidden Folders" on)
Start up ZT2

For XP:
To display hidden files and folders
Open Folder Options in Control Panel.
Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
Double-click Folder Options.
On the View tab, under Hidden files and folders, click Show hidden files and folders.

Hope that helps!
