You have to have a NIF importer/exporter plug-in in order to open them.

Before you ask questions, why don't you actually read the tutorial, as Littlemog gave instructions of where to get the programs.

Ok, if anyone had trouble finding what they were looking for in NifSkope:

http://www.t3rbo.com/photo/view.php?img=d72d5f91b34a60ec83494c29e6842dec

Blender butchers files. I haven't found a way around it yet. But if you can make something in Blender, export as a seperate Nif, open them at the same time (Ie open NifSkope twice so they're both running at the same time), find the models with the same vertex numbers (next to "num vertices" as in screen shot") and copy across (I find making both windows the same size and flipping between them, scrolling down to the next 'page' in both so you're looking at the same part of the list, flipping between them again, helps me find differences faster unless I've changed the entire thing)

Occassionally (as I found with the zebra/unicorn) Blender will reduce the number of vertices as well, which requires a bit more guess work for the missing ones.

Good luck and I hope the screenie makes things a bit clearer for you!

edit: Very silly of me, I didn't even mention where to get NifSkope (and Blender)

http://niftools.sourceforge.net/ NifSkope, (plus Blender and Max plugins) There are also some forums there for NifSkope, but they're more experienced in modding RPGs than ZT2.

http://www.blender.org - official Blender site. (you can't export something that goes straight into ZT2 but you can save and copy across to the .nif you want.)

The panther king: In Blender you need to select the object you want to edit then hit TAB.

Now, I have a bit of a question... Does anybody know what might be causing my Blender program to hang up and crash when I try to export a nif?

This is not a chat room and sometimes it is weeks before you get a response. Please do not start topics in hopes to generate new responses to old questions. That said, I'm going to merge these topics. Hang on!

Now, you should know that any model you edit in Blender and try to export is almost guarenteed to not work. And I'm sorry, but this IS very complicated stuff and not easy to understand by nature. If it WAS easy, BF and other gaming companies would be out of a job.

Also, apparently you are trying to now install max plug ins, but earlier you were asking for help for Blender? Are you sure you are installing BLENDER plug ins for BLENDER?

Usually with plugins you need to download the file, place them in the directory they say.  Please don't get aggravated - we can't help you if you just say "omg i need help" you need to tell us what you have already done so we're know in which direction to steer you.

I was unclear about whether you were trying to do it for 3DS Max or for Blender, since you said "max plugins". "Max" refers to a program that is entirely different from Blender.

Click this Link
Click the first link, entitled blender_nif_scripts-1.5.7-windows.exe
Double click the exe when it fully downloads. Click next. Click next again. Click finish when it shows up.

Thats it. That installs the plug in. For Blender.

But please remember that any model you try to make for ZT2 will have a blinking black glitch. There is no way around it.

I don't think using blender helps, it might work but you'll be having that blinking prob! 3d Studio max is the right program to use, even BF uses that!

It is also extremely expensive, Simba, and it is not free to download anything but a 30 day trial of it.

But using blender won't make it work, what other choice do we have!
