I am going to download a user created animal but I do not know where to save the file. :8 :crazy Any help would be much appreciated :)

after you get the winzip file did you take the files out and save them under downloads?

well when i downloaded the file from here, i saved it to the downloads file and then unzipped it, is that wrong? :lol

What I did is save it to the desktop, open it, click Extract Files and then to the folder rednotdead specified ;)

The somalian wild *** insn't i ZT2 I put it in entities/units/animals and it dosn't show up in the game.
Why isn't it working?

I have it downloaded, I know I have (probably)downloaded it correctly, I have read the directions MANY times, and it is apperaing on the in-game download screen as having been downloaded. The problem is, is why the SWA not showing up in gameplay. It is not an option from the animal list.

when i download a file to the location rednotdead indicates, that path does not exist on my computer. when i get to the application folder, all i find is a microsoft folder - not a microsoft games folder -- hence, no download folder.
also, in the zt2 folder (c:/program folders/microsoft games/zt2) there is no download folder in there either. all i find is a bunch of numbered folders (like 1028, 1031 etc). we have downloaded the "somalian wild donkey" (called another name by the way i don't want to get in trouble in the forum using the actual name) and have located the file in the zt2 folder -- but it just sits there. i must be doing something wrong - please advise

When I try to install the SWA it tells me I need a password has it done this to anyone else I'm desperately looking for an answer help please!!!

I downloaded the SomealienWildAss (http://zoo.ogresnet.com/downloads/db/?mod=2596) and when I went to the downloads section,I found it in the there with the same name,But when I went to the adopt a animal screen,I could not find it,why? :sad
Especially how it can appear on downloads section.

I had this same problem and it took me a few days of playing around. This is what it took before it worked for me:
I downloaded the folder and unzipped it.
I put the SomalienWildAss.dl in the downloads section. (if you have downloaded anything else, then these should also be in here)
I put the SomalienWildAss folder and it contents in (this folder is the one that is in the original SilesianTomcat folder). In this folder should be SomalienWildAss.dl and a folder called SomalienWildAss (in this folder should be SomalienWildAss.z2f). Copy JUST this folder with that one item (SomalienWildAss.z2f) and paste it into the same section as the SomaleinWildAss.dl.
Hope this helped a little.

I'm having the same problem, marley. I've gone throug C:/ Documents and Settings / Application Data / Microsoft Games / ZT2...there is no folder named "Downloads." What should I do?

The folder named "downloads" whas created by ZT2 if you download anything in the Ingame-Modus.
If the downloads-folder not exists, created by yourself.

i beleive that the downoads folder does not exist unless you have downloaded something from the offical site or created it yourself.

Ok, instead of moving files into my nonexistant "Download" folder, I just moved them into the main ZT2 folder and they showed up in the game.

I still recommend you create the folder. That way you'll know where to find the user created download if something goes wrong.

I can't get it to work either. I did exactly what harleyeclipse said, and it still won't work. After you go to C:/documents and settings/All Users/Application Data/Microsoft Games/Zoo Tycoon 2/Downloads, there is still another folder there called zootycoon_com_zt2_1033. Should I put it in there or just in the downloads folder?
Also, when I go to Application Data in the All Users thing, it is kind of faded out. Does that mean anything or does it matter?

That 'kind of faded out' is an indication that that folder is a hidden one :happy

I don't believe they've addressed the problems with international downloads. However, being from liverpool I can only assume you downloaded an English version of the updates so I probably have no idea what I'm talking about.

There have been a few (!!) posts about this in ZT2 download support. I thought I had worked it out, as I have been able to use all the zoos I have downloaded, and the Somalian Mule (can't use its proper name!!) But now I have downloaded the forest elephant and it isn't working.... :angry . But have a look in download support, l&l, and you might find it helps.

I downloaded the Somalien Wildass for the ZT2 and I unziped it and put in the download section of ZT2 and it does not appear. What am I doing wrong. Please give me the steps in getting it to appear in the game.Please let me know as soon as possible.

Installed properly you have tyo have a certain amount of star rating in your zoo before the animal will appear.

You go into the downloads section (the link is at the top of the page) go to the downloads index, go to what section you want, find the animal you want, and then just hit "Download from Ogre's Net" Hope this helps

save here. Make sure the file is unzipped. If you are downloading a zoo its /documents and settings// your user name/application data/ microsoft games zt2/ default profile/saved games

The Siberian Tiger isn't in the game I downlaoded it and installed it the way I did all of the other silinseantomcat ones and it dosn't work
BTW I don't get what he means by' your new adopt bengal and in game bengal will be smaller'

I recently tried to download the siberian tiger for zt2 but i don't know how to use it. On zt1 i used to downlaod the files straight into the updates folder and they worked but how do i download the zt2 files coz there is no updates folder.
I downloaded the file into the zoo tycoon 2 main folder but i can't get it to work.

First, save your download on a file ( My Documents etc. ) Then move the download onto your local disc ( or zt2 if there is an icon ) You must let your firewall accept the download and download the patch in the same way first. Sorry if this is a bit complicated. ;)

Well all the spelling isn't quite right on that one, so if you typed it in directly, there might be problems, BTW where is the address bar on My Computer? People talk about it all the time, but I don't seem to have one :huh

So I'm having a similar problem with the "downloads" folder in Z2..I've downloaded official downloads from BlueFang, using the in-game download engine...and I made sure that my settings are set to show hidden files and folders...yet there is no download folder. Anyone else experience this?
ALso, I have questions with the downloads for ZT2 for the scenario/hacks. I've seen queries about animals and content, but none for the hacks. I downloaded the zip file, unzipped it and put it in the main ZT2 file...and I don't think it's working. Do I have to put it in another folder/should i move it to the "downloads" folder (which I've now created?)
Does anyone know? I'm also a little confused as to what the "World Biomes" hack does exactly and does it affect ALL the profiles?
Has anyone used this or the other hacks?

For those of you having trouble finding the downloads folder.
First open windows explorer NOT my computer.
look at the pic and follow where it shows you to look for your folder.

if placing them im the downloads folder does not work try placing them in the zootycoon_com_zt2_1033 folder found in the downloads folder.

scenerios go into your saved games folder and you load them as a saved game
as for all the other user created animals we have available here all i can say is they work fine in my game (they have to cos its poor old me that has to test them first:rofl). my game is the english version and has the offical patch (i dont know if this makes any differnnce). htey show up ok in my download panel and show up in both a freeform game and a challenge game.

Thanks Red and Yellow (grin). I figured it out now. Sorry took so long to reply. Haven't played in a while because I was neglecting life. Heh. Wound up I was looking in the wrong folder. Duh.
I'm still a little scared to put non official objects/animals/scenarios into my program, so I haven't tried it again but it should work when I do.

I swear that /documents and settings/all users/application data/microsoft games/zt2/downloads does not exist on my computer i have typed it into the address bar on my computer i have shown all hidden files and sorry yellowrose but your pic doesn't help because my computer is microsoft ME (millenium edition) and not xp so there isn't such a file as Documentas and settings.

I have downloaded lots of ST's downloads, all of them have worked but the Somalian Wild Donkey. I have extracted it to the correct folder and everything, and tried re-downloaing the file and re-putting it in the folder. But it still doesn't show up.

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Zoo Tycoon 2 i get this far on my xp and the download folder doesnt exsist i checked hidden folders i even made a new folder but it still doesnt work :( it getting anoying and i dont know how to fix it. :help

thats because you are looking in the wrong place on windows Xp its this route you have to go

there is another way if you click on the zip click onthe folder then when you reach the dl and folder saying the animals name you copy them two in to the main folder for zt2 it still aperares also save it somewhere other than that folder save it to the desktop first

I downloaded silesian tomcats siberian tiger and saved it into the correct downloads folder but when I open the game up it is not in there. There are two different files. One is SiberianTiger.z2f and the other is Siberiantiger.dl. I had no problem downloading his Somalian wild ***. Please help.
Edit: there are also two other files in the folder. 1015_1.0 (which is empty) and ZooTycoon_com_zt2_1033, which holds all of Bluefangs downloads.

Well It works for me like this:
I go to C:/Documents and Settings/All Users/Application Data/Micorsoft Games/Zoo Tycoon 2/downloads/
There are three ways you can do this
A): Unzip the extracted folder (silesiantomcat, czar etc.) to the main downloads folder.
B): Go into zootycoon_com_zt2_1033 and unzip the dl file and the folder with the z2f file inside to there.
C): If neither of the above work, go to 1022 and unzip the z2f file in there.
King Kong, Deinochus and Racoon all should go in 1022, because creating a new folder for the z2f never works.

Ok, I've tried placing the Arabian Oryx and Siberian Tiger in: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft Games\Zoo Tycoon 2\downloads and the zootycoon_com_zt2_1033 file but when I go on my game and go to the Downloads section on the main menu, nothing comes up except for the official downloads I downloaded and a little beepbeepbeep sound. It's strange I know but can someone please help me?

Oh, it's worked! WOOHOO! :w00t :w00t I just needed to put in ALL the files instead of just one. I'm on top of the world! :lol Tigeress, what you need to do is put both of the files, inside the download, into C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft Games\Zoo Tycoon 2\downloads and then zootycoon_com_zt2_1033. After you've done that, put your downloads in the right order on each file e.g Yellow files: Tiger, Bear. and then on the white files the same order. The kodiak bear didnt work until i did that.

Ok, I'm having trouble with this...I follow where you go...Documents and settings>>All users>>Application data>>Microsoft Games>>Zoo Tycoon 2... then after that, all that shows up is tmp. Is that what's supposed to show up? There is no downloads folder. I went to folder options and did all that stuff, but I can't get it to work...please help!

there will not be a downlaods folder there until you download something from the website or if you create one yourself.

from the official website - when you run the game click on the downlaods buttton and download the downloads it will create a folder for them.

When I put certain animals in the gam a huge grey box appeares beneath hem.. Any ideas?

Could you please specify which animals this occurs with?
One thing: Do you have ZT2 without ES and have downloaded animals that were made from ZT:ES? If so this could mess with the game and be the reason of the grey box.

Also, Jeox, I'm not real familiar with them, but could it have anything to do with your having a Mac? :huh

That grey box is most likely suposed to be the animals shadow. It is showing like that because the video card in your computer can't render all the effects for the game....start your game and go into the options menu and turn off the shadows. This helps your video card not to work at doing something it can't do and the grey boxes should go away.

i said this in another topic,but,i do almost every file for zt2 i can find,do everything there is to do,yet,the animals still woint work,i keep trying for the fantsy wolf,but still no pretty colored wolves :( i havent tried making folders yet though,and i doint really know how,if someone could tell me it would be greatly appreciated :)

Well, I hope I didn't answer this in another topic, but, some of us have had that same problem and the solution (which just applies to ZT2 and ZT2 ES) seems to be:
1) [/b] after unzipping (you will need WinZip) the files to C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Zoo Tycoon 2
2) [/b] inside that folder, you'll see another folder, created by the MAKER (e.g. exitree, penguinman, martin1990)
3) [/b] inside THAT folder will be yet ANOTHER folder (e.g. arctic fox), plus a .dl file also called arctic fox
4) [/b] cut the zoo tycoon 2 file (inside that 2nd folder) and paste it next to the arctic fox .dl file
5) [/b] Now you have two files side by side, both named arctic fox
6) [/b] then, take both THOSE files (artic fox.dl and arctic fox.zoo tycoon 2) and CUT and PASTE them into
7) [/b] C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Zoo Tycoon 2
8) [/b] This virtually always fixes the 'non appearing' problem.
Some computers are configured differently, and some won't 'recognize' those individual folders. Mine, for instance, won't. I always have to do the above to get my downloads to work. Hope that helps! :happy

Your signature illustration was removed, as it was very much larger than allowed. Also, no pictures are allowed in signature except by an Admin.

Ok, this is what you do :
1. Download the animal.
2. Open the file you dl-ed using winzip.
3. Extract the files to your desktop.
4. You will have 1 folder and 1 dl file on your desktop.
5. Put the dl file in the folder.
6. Open the folder.
7. Cut the items.
8. Go to C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Zoo Tycoon 2
9. Paste the items.
There, it will work now. I used to have this same problem !

As far as I know, there is no official limit to the amount of user created animals/items you can have for ZT2; however, the more you have, the longer it may take to load on your computer.

As far as the folder, it is by default invisible. You will have to make it visible by reading this topic and following the directions (http://zoo.ogresnet.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2621)

I'm also downloading some user-created animals for ZT2 and don't know where to put them. RedNotDead's suggested path (c/documents and settings/all users/application data/microsoft games/zt2/downloads) doesn't work. There's no Application data folder in the All Users folder. Help?

It's because you have to make the hidden folders visible. Check this topic (http://zoo.ogresnet.com/forums/showthread.php?t=4074&highlight=hidden+folders) for help on that.

Is there an Albino Pack Part 2, because it has no .dl files in it or is it not supposed to?
I put them in the folder....No alboino's. not even in 5 star zoo. I tried to breed to get albino (put a bunch of Camels together, let them breed) No albino's. the original folder said Albino Pack Part 1, usually that means that the other half of the files are in a Part 2 but I cannot find it. I have many user created animals that work great, it is not that I don't know how to insall them, I really think that there is supposed to be a Part 2 with .dl files. I IM ed the file creator but have heard nothing.
Eureka! The problem was that I had too many user created files allready, and my game was running slow. What did I do, turn the grafics way down so the game would run faster. One problem, Albino Varients can only be seen if your grafics are on Med or High!
So the moral of the story is "Less is more" don't get greedy with user created files if you don't have a top of the line processer!

It doesn't have dl files because the z2f files just go in the main game directory i think.

Budgie is correct; if a download doesn't come with a .dl, you should assume that it goes in the intall directory, which by default is C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Zoo Tycoon 2

The albino packs are varient skins; you can't breed and get albino babies. You have to place them as albino varients. Also, those skins will only work if you have ES or later.

I HAVE PROBLEMS WITH USER ANIMALS AS WELL...I START AFTER I INSTALLING MARINE MANIA 2.
SOME USER VARIANT IN BENGAL TIGER DOESNT WORK ANYMORE ESPECIALLY GOLDEN TABBY AND MIKABOSHI BLACK TIGER THEY NEVER WORK IN THE GAME.:wicked:
BEFORE I INSTALLED MARINE MANIA 2 IT USED TO WORK IN ES, AFRICAN ADVENTURE AS WELL.

Destiny, please don't post in all caps as it is considered yelling and rude.
As for your problem some dls won't work with new expansion packs. Another thing to do would be to check and make sure that the dls are still there, I believe I've had my user made downloads deleting after installing expansions, although I may be wrong.

Also, you can try to put the .z2f in teh main ZT2 directory, C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Zoo Tycoon 2

There is NO limit for number of downloads for ANY of the ZT2 packs. It must be something else.
Have you spoken to your Administrator as to whether or not you're allowed to download things? Do you have WinZip? Are you putting them directly into C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Zoo Tycoon 2 ? Are you opening them or extracting them?

i am the administrator, and yes im doing all those things, i have lots of downloads that work, its just that when i put one more in, it messes up my game

I can't seem to download the gharial - each time I click on the file, it shows an error and says no files are contained. Is anyone else getting this message?

Ya crooky there are some problems that have come up during the transfer from system to site. This can happen sometimes so we are asking that you post the filename and if possible a link to the file in the downloads section so we can look into it and get a good copy uploaded so you have no more problems.
