Well, I am finally out of the dark ages and found MM2. Yeah me!
This is my first zoo, though I did unlock the silly Whale, I will no doubt work on the other unlockable item someday.
My entrance is basic, but the guests are treated to a nice view of the Reef Exhibit. This massive exhibit has glass on the front only and the rest is cliff walls

-
OH! That's SO BEAUTIFUL! Earl is back!
-
It says that the image doesn't exist.
-
The next shot at night; illuminated with lights, is beautiful. The Tiki Torches adds to the atmosphere
(http://img219.imageshack.us/img219/273/3ai3.th.jpg) (http://img219.imageshack.us/my.php?image=3ai3.jpg)
The guest view, and the sunken ship, and all the treasures scattered on the ocean floor...
[(http://img142.imageshack.us/img142/843/4gi0.th.jpg) (http://img142.imageshack.us/my.php?image=4gi0.jpg)
Well, I see it, but ImageShack is acting strange at the moment!
-
From within the exhibt, we see the Rays and Black Tip Shark guarding their treasure. Through the glass, they really want the peeps....
(http://img219.imageshack.us/img219/4597/5jk8.th.jpg) (http://img219.imageshack.us/my.php?image=5jk8.jpg)
From above...I used the glass fence download to keep the pesky sharks from beaching themselves. On the right, the entrance for the zookeeper and the filter are tucked away from sight.
(http://img153.imageshack.us/img153/1695/6pp7.th.jpg) (http://img153.imageshack.us/my.php?image=6pp7.jpg)
-
Oh...WOW! That has to be THE coolest exhibit I have EVER seen!!
I mean.. WOW!!!! The DETAIL in these shots is AMAZING!!
*is a raving fanboy*
-
Thanks everyone.
Next, we we are looking down on the Rock Hopper Penguin.
(http://img148.imageshack.us/img148/6289/7vs6.th.jpg) (http://img148.imageshack.us/my.php?image=7vs6.jpg)
The exhibit has a lower and upper viewing area. This was taken from Topside...
(http://img172.imageshack.us/img172/9191/8rz3.th.jpg) (http://img172.imageshack.us/my.php?image=8rz3.jpg)
-
Had to show this photo. It looks too realistic...
(http://img148.imageshack.us/img148/7955/9bj2.th.jpg) (http://img148.imageshack.us/my.php?image=9bj2.jpg)
-
Next to the Penguin are the Green Sea Turtle. Both exhibits share the upper viewing area, and there is a hidden entrance for the zookeepers there as well.
(http://img148.imageshack.us/img148/8774/12zk6.th.jpg) (http://img148.imageshack.us/my.php?image=12zk6.jpg)
-
The Green Sea Turtle, an inside view...I want to go snorkeling in the Caribbean....
(http://img172.imageshack.us/img172/6020/10pi9.th.jpg) (http://img172.imageshack.us/my.php?image=10pi9.jpg)
And my favorite photo so far
(http://img407.imageshack.us/img407/829/11tl1.th.jpg) (http://img407.imageshack.us/my.php?image=11tl1.jpg)

I am now blind because of your totally insanely incredible pictures. :surprise: (Which is a compliment of course!) : :) : Great to see you back zoohio! :specool:
-
Ooooohhhhhhh Yeah my favorite ZT2 builder is back in action. And my I say not in a shy way.......Amazing is all I can think of.
:worthy: Everytime I look at your building I almost want to buy ZT2......:clapping: :nice:
-
Hah!! He's back, at last!! :woot:
zoohio, those pics are so lovely. The rockhopper pics really look like the kind of thing BF would use as promo pics! I knew your pics would be great, but these are even better than I expected! : :) :
Which map did you use?
-
Fantastic stuff Zoohio, I have loved your zoos for a long time now :)
-
Woohoo he's back at it, and doing marvelous work yet again! Great job Zoohio!
-
glad to see you back at zoo-making, zoohio. But anyways, your zoo is amazing!:surprise: Can't wait for more.: :) :
-
Zoohio, you make EXCELLENT zoos! I'm serious, you have a real nack at it.
-
Thanks everyone!
Rebecca, the map that I used is one of the new ones, Benthic Large, I believe. I found with the new maps that you cannot get the path to be smooth, no matter how you try; so I paint Grass or Desert under the areas that should be smooth. But I like the new maps as they have a more natural appeal with the terrain and sounds.
Off to work on the Manatee!
-
Earl, I have said time and time again, YOUR ZOOS ARE WONDERFUL!
You Do an Amazing job at designing zoos =D So much artisticness *is that word? :hmmm: * WONDERFUL jobe on..well... everything ^_^
-
Thanks Connor!
Also, I must give credit to RND for the Invisible Fence that keeps the Penguins and Green Turtles from falling off the cliff at the back of their enclosures.
Across from the Turtles, the viewing area for the Manatee, with aquarium and restaurant.
(http://img111.imageshack.us/img111/1905/1rc8.th.jpg) (http://img111.imageshack.us/my.php?image=1rc8.jpg)

Around the waterfall, yet another viewing area for the Manatee
(http://img142.imageshack.us/img142/9978/2bm5.th.jpg) (http://img142.imageshack.us/my.php?image=2bm5.jpg)
up close and personal with a lovely pair
(http://img153.imageshack.us/img153/6884/3uu1.th.jpg) (http://img153.imageshack.us/my.php?image=3uu1.jpg)
-
Are you sure you aren't a secretly trained BF employee, here to make us all drool and strive for the same perfection??
Seriously, I couldn't agree more with everyone - Bravo! :yesmaster
-
Correction from earlier Rebecca, this is a Pelagic Map...
The Leatherback Turtle Exhibit with upper viewing area
(http://img153.imageshack.us/img153/5548/4yw9.th.jpg) (http://img153.imageshack.us/my.php?image=4yw9.jpg)
and a beautiful Leatherback, heading to the kelp bed
(http://img142.imageshack.us/img142/1233/5ur9.th.jpg) (http://img142.imageshack.us/my.php?image=5ur9.jpg)
-
Zoohio is back!!
Your zoos are as amazing as ever. You really have a talent for this.
-
Fwee!!! I <3 the manatees!! *they are so fun to build for ^_^*
and the turtles are... WOW!
But, what caught my eye most, was the waterfall! It looks SOOO cool in the landscaping! =D
-
More stunning pics, zoohio! I know you must get sick of me saying this every time you post pics of a new zoo, but please please please submit this one for download. The colours are breathtaking. And just my personal opinion: I always prefer non-city zoos: no ugly grey buildings!
Don't you love the way the manatees swim together all the time!
-
Wicked zoo Zoohio! I love those pics - so bright and colourful!
-
your pics are so awesome! So colorful! Now I want to improve my zoo!
-
Thanks again all...
Nique, I wish I were a BF employee, how cool would that be!!!
Rebecca, I agree with the city, but at the same time, I like the contrast of the concrete jungle verses the real jungle...
OK, this took a bit of time to plan. I looked at the Benthic and realized they were all sharks, so here we are with an overview of all three. The tanks are massive, but the guests are in awe at the fact that they are surrounded by sharks.
(http://img154.imageshack.us/img154/9894/overviewnx0.th.jpg) (http://img154.imageshack.us/my.php?image=overviewnx0.jpg)
The middle is the odd-looking Goblin Shark
(http://img96.imageshack.us/img96/2416/goblinnc8.th.jpg) (http://img96.imageshack.us/my.php?image=goblinnc8.jpg)
-
The large and graceful Whale Shark
(http://img157.imageshack.us/img157/2701/whalesj5.th.jpg) (http://img157.imageshack.us/my.php?image=whalesj5.jpg)
And the sweet and cuddly...er....I mean...Great White Shark
(http://img157.imageshack.us/img157/6590/whitedw1.th.jpg) (http://img157.imageshack.us/my.php?image=whitedw1.jpg)
-
Wow!! What an excellent benthic area! The guests must love it!!
-
Your zoos are great and all the exhibits are excellent.
-
Words cannot describe how fantastic your zoos are! They are soooooo realistic. Keep up the great work.
-
Thanks!
Now for something entirely different for me. I wanted to introduce the guests to the Black Tipped Reef Shark, so I created a ride of sorts.
During low-tide, Jeeps can pass along a narrow reef between large coves, just arms length from the sharks...but please, keep your arms inside the vehicle.
This is the overview....thanks to RND's Invisible Fence, the sharks do not beach themselves...
(http://img402.imageshack.us/img402/2108/1rl9.th.jpg) (http://img402.imageshack.us/my.php?image=1rl9.jpg)
-
From the overhead viewing deck, the Jeep passing through the reef, admist the ships that never made it...
(http://img110.imageshack.us/img110/9588/2jc5.th.jpg) (http://img110.imageshack.us/my.php?image=2jc5.jpg)
As we pass the shipwreck, one shark breaks the surface
[(http://img78.imageshack.us/img78/1173/3no8.th.jpg) (http://img78.imageshack.us/my.php?image=3no8.jpg)
-
I have to say that I am officially going to steal this idea from you; it's amazing the creativity you have! Do the sharks ever get stuck on the road?
-
The reef is narrow, and only the best drivers are hired for this job
(http://img402.imageshack.us/img402/4716/4yw6.th.jpg) (http://img402.imageshack.us/my.php?image=4yw6.jpg)
From below the surface, the sharks lurk and wait for one false move of the drivers
(http://img175.imageshack.us/img175/4813/5sl9.th.jpg) (http://img175.imageshack.us/my.php?image=5sl9.jpg)
-
This was an incredibly hard task to create. At first the sharks were beaching themselves, so I decided to use Rednotdead's invisible fence download to keep them in their exhibit.
I am not sure if I would do this again, but the results are fun! It looks better in person.
I know this is not the normal, realistic approach that I would have liked. I wish there was a boat tour, and maybe using the overhead trams would be more realistic.
-
I can imagine it was difficult, but the result is very impressive. Good idea about the Invisible Fence though!
-
i really like that shark-safari! you should make it even more scary... by putting in great whites! i mean, with the dark, mysterious benthic water, and the 20-foot man-eating sharks... passengers had BETTER keep their hands inside the vehicle!
-
omg...that is soooo incredible! your talent is amazing!! i wish you worked for BF!! may i try using the jeep/boat tours in some of my zoos??? it is such a great idea!! =)
-
Thanks again, and if you guys try it, have fun and be patient. It was hard work...now for something simple
The entrance to the Pelagic exhibit
(http://img405.imageshack.us/img405/8663/1cx3.th.jpg) (http://img405.imageshack.us/my.php?image=1cx3.jpg)

(http://img406.imageshack.us/img406/694/1qn8.th.jpg) (http://img406.imageshack.us/my.php?image=1qn8.jpg)
Curious and playful, I like these guys
(http://img213.imageshack.us/img213/2482/2un2.th.jpg) (http://img213.imageshack.us/my.php?image=2un2.jpg)

And after my attempt at training, I decided to hire a trainer. I need to practice a bit more with training and show tanks.
(http://img406.imageshack.us/img406/8886/3xo4.th.jpg) (http://img406.imageshack.us/my.php?image=3xo4.jpg)
-
Wow! Of course the whole zoo is wonderful, but I too love the short-finned pilot whale and the one of it jumping through the hoop with the sunset is so spectacular and simply stunning!
-
I have to agree, Zoohio, that shot is AMAZING! And from trying to take pics of cetaceans performing, I know that shot had to take QUITE some time!!!
-
I must say, that jeep was totally flippin' awesome. :woot: I too am gonna steal that idea! :badgnome: (Though I think I'll stick with amphibious animals like otter and turtles. :sweatingb ) Your zoos are totally inspirational, and I almost want to start over my new zoo! :fear2: (But I won't. :sweatingb ) Again, incredible job. :clapping:
-
WOAH! The zooster is back! :woot: :party5: I had a feeling you'd be back soon, and guess who's photos made it onto my screensaver....
-
glad to see that the fence still works in mm lovely exhibits
-
That jeep idea is ace, great work all around I'd say!
-
Nice pictures, Nice zoo, you are my favourite zt 2 designer congrat.
You will put this up for download? please do it!!
-
Wow...where would one start? lol... The Jeep tour was a brilliant idea! and the shot of the Pilot Whale jumping through the hoop is worthy of the ZT advertising campaign... but the one thing I wish is that we could REALLY go visit! lol... Wonderful work!
-
Amazing!! The idea of having a jeep tour going through a water exhibit is great. And that picture of the pilot whale going through the hoop is gorgeous, especially with the sunset in the background.
-
Well I haven't visited zoohio Wonderland for a couple of days and look what happens! :surprise: Earl, the Jeep across the shark exhibit is the most amazing thing I have ever seen. You've surpassed yourself. I know I said this before, but you really should submit this zoo for download. It would be very popular, I think! : :) :
-
Thanks everyone, and my goal is submit this for download...if I ever finish.
Next, we head back to the front of the park and to the right of the entrance. Our first exhibit is the Sea Otter; complete with waterfalls and upper viewing area

Thanks again all!
Being my first Marine Project, I found it to be very time consuming, but all the same rewarding. Some of the animals I was seeing for the first time.
The zoo has been submitted for download, and I zipped Rednotdead's Invisible Fence with it as well; so it should be up soon.

Thanks all, and the files needed will be zipped with the download, which is the Invisible Fence.
Here is a fun exhibit I worked out finally. It took several tries, but I think it looks awesome.
I call this the Dolphin Research and Rehabilitation Center.
The first shot is an overview from the front
(http://img131.imageshack.us/img131/3643/1zh9.th.jpg) (http://img131.imageshack.us/my.php?image=1zh9.jpg)

Awsome!!!! is the place part of yer zoo
-
That is very cool! :woot: I keep running out of words to describe your awesomeness!
-
Zoohio, you are very good! May I ask, what's your favorite part of building zoos, and what gives you that "stride" for building zoos that are unmatched?
-
What can I say that has not been said ? Wow. I was looking in :surprise: amazement, so extraordinary and wonderful what an amazing zoo. Just keep sharing:specool:
-
That building is great :)
-
Such creativity, Earl! Its fabtastic!
-
Thanks everyone. The building is quite easy, and when I get a moment to work on other designs that I have been playing with, I will create a tutorial if needed.
Zoohio, you are very good! May I ask, what's your favorite part of building zoos, and what gives you that "stride" for building zoos that are unmatched?
Jaguar, my favorite part of zoo building is letting my imagination go wild. I hate being limited.
My appeal for animals and nature is my highest drive. I like art and design, and if I ever thought for one moment that I would excel in real life as an architect, I would be designing real zoo exhibits.
When building an exhibit, I want the guest view to be unlimited, and the animal exhibit to seem as natural as possible. I also use trees and plants to smooth the rough edges.
I rarely open my zoo to guests as they are very annoying while yelling and talking on their cell phones; much like real life at the zoo! I travel to many zoos, and if it is over-crowded, I will leave or find the quiet places.
I am certain when I finally someday,go to Africa and take a Safari, that someone will be carrying a cigarette, talking on the phone, kids will be screaming; and I will be hoping a lion will just eat them! ROFL
And the cool part was that I will get to see a lion in the wild! LOL
-
Well I have dl'd the zoo, and it is beautiful. Well done on yet another lovely zoo, Earl!
-
wow! that zoo is just great. my zoos are nothing on that. (im gonna tell my bro i did that & i'll see if he believes me. he totally won't.
-
That dolphin building is brilliant, Zoohio!
-
All your zoo blow me away the entrances, teh veiwing areas, everything, keep up the wonderful work!:clapping:
-
Yes! its very very Good!
-
I take my hat off to you, Zoohio, well done. Amazing photography, amazing zoos. :specool:
-
Hi zoohio! I love your marine zoo, its amazing! :surprise:
But I have a question, please. I have looked and looked at your manta ray exhibit and I can't work out how you built it. I see you have one tank wall and the rest cliff walls, but how do you fill the exhibit with water, so the water is above the level of the viewing area?! When I tried to do this, the water level didn't rise up to the top of the tank wall. I'm kind of frustrateed on this!!
Sorry if you are not allowed/don't want to tell me!:blushing:
-
I could tell you..
PM me. : :P :
-

I have my own way of doing it since I couldn't find a tutorial anywhere
I have been frustrated by this as well but then discovered that you need to place your glass wall first, then raise the terrain to the level you want behind it, then regular wall needs to go on top of the terrain level you leveled up (not down below surrounding it). Next fill in with deep water right up against the tank wall, then use the level tool to remove the dirt from against the tank walls inside and out (you may have to click down a ditch or two to make the inside water bottom match the outside or just to make it deeper). Smooth smooth smooth, flatten flatten flatten. You can raise or lower the tank wall to what level you desire. It takes some practice and yelling at the computer :loony: to get it right.
Tips:
If you have water on the outside of the tank wall it won't smooth or level.
If you don't have the water right up to the tank wall you just get this weird cliff.
If you have spots of shallow water instead of deep inside, that won't smooth near the tank wall.
If you make an error with the water, turn it back to dirt terrain, flatten, smooth, then readd water.
Make the area bigger than you would normally do.
Be prepared to do a lot--and I do mean a lot--of correcting until you get better at it.

I hope the question was answered.
In the Manta Ray exhibit, I created a huge mountain, and then filled the center with water.
Then, using the terrain level/lowering tool, I made the water deeper, to the desired level, moving it right up to the Aquarium wall. It works very well. It takes a little practice, and if you work in little sections at a time, you can easily undo it if you go to far.

Zoohio! It took me about an hour to get through this thread last night..I was too tired to even post! But oh my gosh! You definately have not lost any of your talent. I tried to build a marine zoo because I haven't used the animals much, but I just couldn't get into it. This has given me new inspiration! Great work!
