Separating zones
« on: December 31, 2006, 10:12:20 AM »
Hi.

I hope this is in the right area - I think its more strategy than general discussion?

Anyway, I really enjoy building in ZT2, but I have one problem. I can't seem to come up with a way to make a nice division betweem different 'zones' - savannah from desert, wetland from trf etc.

How does anyone else do this?

I get what you mean... when I want to separate areas I put hedges as borders between different types of path, then put archways in gaps in the hedges. You can use the themed archway to go with your new area.

I can never really do the asthetics very well, so I just let the exhibits do the talking. I have my own little order for them as well...

When I make a zoo, I start with Desert, which leads into Scrub, which leads into Savannah, which leads into Tropical Rainforest, which leads into Wetlands, which leads into Grassland, which leads into Temperate Forest, which leads into Boreal Forest, which leads into Alpine, which leads into Tundra, which leads into Coastal, which leads into Reef, which leads into Pelagic, which leads into Benthic, which finishes the lot. It makes arragement easier for me.

It is kinda hard, my suggestions are to use themed archways, change pathways,(like asphault to safari.) use concession areas changing the theme of the building in the middle,(that is if you unlocked the different buildings.) and using the different themed elevated paths made by our wonderful designers here at ZA.(you can find these under downloads, in the object area I believe.) That Help?: :) :

Seperating zones in Zoo Tycoon is one of the hardest things I do in every zoo, it takes forever for me to decide where to put this and that to seperate them, but I generally stick to this:

  • Change the paths around.
  • Different fences (themed, etc.).
  • Switch the theme up.
  • Use foliage as a guide to whatever the next section is.
  • Arches, fountains, scenery can be very good for this.
  • Use elevated paths to make bridges over water.
  • Seperate zones with guest needs like food and such.

It's all up to you, but I generally stick to these guidelines when it comes to seperating zones.

I do this every so often, it's a great effect. : :) :

I made a whole zoo called 'The Arctic Jungle', with different zones as the whole idea. Itwas brilliant - desert zone, jungle zone, arctic zone and safari zone, it was all going on so well until the file got corrupted. I cokld have sent you the file for ideas but I guess not. :pout:

I'm glad someone brought this up - it's something I always struggle with. I guess the only way I'm ever going to be able to do it is in freeform mode, as challenge has too many restrictions...

Yes you should try out your, new idea's in freeform mode, to get the money kinks out. Then you can build more efficient.
