Howdy, jasmine44! Nice to meet you!

Well, first thing is, how long have you been using ZT2? Do you have ES and/or AA? Have you ever edited a file before?

We need to get a little more info before we can accurately help you. :original:

Okay, first of all, jasmine44, this is not a 'chat room', so do not expect instant answers. It sometimes takes hours for someone to answer your question.:original:

Second, ES stands for Endangered Species pack and AA stands for the brand-new (this week) African Adventures pack. Since you don't know what those are, I'm assuming (always a mistake) that you do not have them.

The way the Design Team suggests you start editing is not with an animal, but with a stationary object (like a trashcan or bench). It's much, much easier and you'll get to know the files, and where they are, better. Then try making a variant (extra) skin for an animal. Then try doing your first animal.

In our Downloads section there are several guides for these things. For objects, try Penguinman's OCT (Object Creation Tutorial). For animal variants, use his VAT (Variant Animal Tutorial). When you're ready, download Sideshow Bob's APE II tutorial for making animals from scratch. When you've done any/all these things, you'll have many, many questions. You can post them here, or visit ZT2 DC which is a site devoted solely to designing.

Hopefully this will get you started correctly!:original:

EDIT: I see csleesburg and I posted at the same time. Oops!

First, you should know this is NOT a chat room and therefore answers may not come for up to a few days.

ES and AA are Endangered Species and African Adventure which are both expansion packs for Zoo Tycoon 2 (ZT2)

Editing animals for ZT2 is incredibly difficult. It takes a lot of determination, persistance and time. I do not recomend doing it unless you are ready to give it a lot of frustration at first.

There will be a download here once the downloads are fixed called "APE II" which is a guide for ZT2 animals which does contain a few flaws. Also, if you want to make objects there is a guide here located under "Exclusive Downloads" after you become a member. It is called OCT.

Good luck...

Two guides (VAT and APE II) are located in the ZA Downloads Section here. The OCT can be found at Penguinman's site, under the Members Only Section. :original:

Well, I'm assuming (always a mistake) that you want to test it? If you've finished with it, take ALL the files (the entities, the lang, and the ui) and use WinRAR and 'add to archive' them. It will come up with 2 choice (shown on the left middle of the screen) asking whether you want to .zip or .rar them. Choose .zip and it will add .zip to the name in the middle box (e.g. lion.zip) Change the .zip to .z2f - but don't change anything else! Then just click 'ok' and it's done. It becomes a usable ZT2 file! :original:

If you've downloaded APE II, it is very clear in there what it is and what it's used for. You need to download it.

From their site. Use Google to find it. I do not know where it is, personally. I downloaded mine long ago.

Does WinRAR have to be paid for, or does it refuse to work altogether or something after the trial's over?

Also, what does WinRAR do exactly?
