Installing Zt2 Downloads Tutorial
« on: March 02, 2006, 02:43:24 PM »
A lot of you have had repeat questions about using winzip and installing your downloads in the game. I have done this picture tutorial to help all of you out. I am hoping this takes the what, where and how do I do it out of all your questions. For this tutorial I will be using Exitree's Carcal in all the examples. Thanks for the file Exitree he's a real cutie in my game. :wtg

Before proceeding make sure you have downloaded and installed a version of winzip from Winzip.com

Picture Tutorial

Until you are familiar with the steps please follow these directions. In time you will find shorter ways to accomplish this.

Step 1.

Open windows explorer and click on Tools - then Folder Options - click on the view tab - scroll to Show hidden files and folders and check the box to enable hidden files and folders to be seen on your system. Now just under this uncheck the box that says - Hide extensions for known file types. This will enable you to see the .zip, .z2f etc extensions on your files. - if this is already done move to step 2

Step 2.

Make a new folder on your desktop and name it - ZT 2 Downloads

Download the files you want to install in your game and save them to this folder. Once this is completed continue on to step 3.

Step 3.

Using Winzip to Open Zip Files

Open the ZT 2 Downloads folder.

Double click a file you want to install in your game See Fig 1.

Fig. 1

Winzip will open to show you this spash nag screen. See Fig 2.

Fig. 2

Step 4.

Click on Use Evaluation Version to open the program and see the files included in the zip file.

Step 5.

Click on Actions - then sellect all to highlight all the files in the zip

Step 6.

Click on Extract

Step 7.

In the new window before you click extract again make sure you have a check in the box beside  - use folder names

Navigate to the desktop folder you made. Click Extract

When the files have completely extracted to the destination folder - in this case the desktop ZT 2 Downloads folder you will see a green light in the bottom right hand corner of the program window.

Step 8.

If you have no other files you want to unzip and install you can close off winzip if not just minimize for now.

You should now have a new folder in the ZT 2 Downloads Folder on your desktop. Exitree's Animals

Step 9.

Installing the Files to your Game

Double click on the Exitree's Animals folder to open it. You should see 2 files and a folder named Carcal and a carcal.dl file

Open the folder named Carcal and make sure it contains a file named carcal.z2f. Yes ? - You are now ready to continue to install to your game.

Step 10.

Highlight both files by holding down Ctrl key while clicking on the file.

In the menu bar click Edit - then click Copy

Step 11.

Navigate to the downloads folder located in -

C:/Documents and Settings/All Users/ Application Data/ Microsoft Games/ Zoo Tycoon 2 / Dowmloads

You will only have this folder if you have downloaded the Offical Content from the ingame download button.

Step 12.

Open the zootycoon_com_zt2_1033 folder - click Edit - then Paste

NOTE your folder may have a different number depending on the language of your game and the country you live in.

Step 13.

Then check for the newly pasted files.

Step 14.

Close all open windows and programs and you are done with this install.

Step 15.

Start up ZT 2. Load a Freeform Game and check the animals list and look for the Carcal.

This is the proper way all user downloads should be installed. However, some people can not use this method, if your system will not accept user downloads installed in this manner then follow csleesburg's method of install located Here
