freeform vs. scenario

Why aren't all the animals listed when i choose a freeform game.  In the scenarios games I've noticed that some animals are there  but which aren't in the freeform game. Do those animals come later in the freeform game with research or something?..

(I am listing them under "ALL" when playing)

Most of the time the Scenarios give limited animals to make it a challenge. But for your question not all things are available at once when you start overtime you will get more things unless you download the free form hack from the downloads section

ok, sounds cool if they come little by little.... do I need to research for that or is it just a question of time? (i'm talking just about animals in the freeform mode specifically... not toys and shelters and the such)

After a while you will get a message telling you that you have gotten more animals and stuff unlocked.Oh and you research you just get things that you cant get unlocked like giant pandas,snow leopards and stuff.
