LiZZyrd's Zoo
« on: April 02, 2007, 10:21:12 AM »
So hey, I'm bored and I want to make a zoo!  So, I'm gonna ask y'all what you think I should put in it.  I've got ZT2, ES, and AA, but no MM2 yet.  I'll let you know when I get it installed, since I should be getting it fairly soon.  So anyway, first post is the first animal I'm going to put in the zoo.  Send me some suggestions, and I'll start working on it after class!

Edit: Started with the Nile Crocodiles.  This is a beautiful wetlands exhibit for the founders of our research and conservation program here at the Connecticut Reptile Conservation Park.  Nigel and Mary were shipped to us from the other side of the world.  In England, a man purchased two crocodiles, thinking he would be able to raise them and control them when they were older.  Nigel, our beautiful male crocodile, took quickly to the relocation.  Mary, however, was sick for a few days.  All in all, they're loving their new home, and we hope to see some children someday soon.

Nigel, looking happy.

Mary, on her first day, seeming quite upset.

Mary again, seeming quite content after having some time to adjust.

The Connecticut Reptile Conservation Park (CRCP) has received government funding to continue its efforts to expand.

The RBRC (Reptile Breeding and Rehabilitation Centre) has given you the choice to adopt 2 komodo dragons, 3 galapagos giant tortoises or 2 nile monitors to adopt and care for. We are giving you one of these species to breed, as we haven't been able to breed them.

Please take care of whatever species you choose to adopt.

Here are the animals:

TORTOISES:
Toby (m)
Hayley (f)
Rikki (f)

KOMODOS:
Janey (f)
Raj (m)

NILE MONITORS:
Alec (m)
Chelsea (f)

Yours sincerely, the RBRC team.

Oh, by the way, GREAT exhibit. I like the picture of nigel the best :P

Donated from the Reptile Breeding and Rehabilitation Centre were three Galapagos Tortoises.

Toby, the male tortoise, was introduced first.  The shipment came early, before we had put the flora in the exhibit, but we managed with little disturbance to the tortoises.

We released Toby first.

The girls were put into the exhibit after a bit of foliage was put in.  Here is our keeper releasing them:

I picked up a copy of MM2 so if you guys have suggestions, feel free!

Two African Spurred Tortoises were accidentally shipped from Africa to the Alaskan Wildlife Preservation Park in Alaska.  They kindly sent them our way after we offered to take them in.  Penguin, the male tortoise, seemed to take to the exhibit immediately, but his mate Puffer was a little hesitant.

This is the exhibit before-hand.

This is Penguin, seeming to already enjoy the exhibit.

Puffin seemed scared at first,

But she quickly warmed up to the place... literally!

Kay, next up is a pair of Nile Monitors.

Thank you for adopting Toby, Rikki and Hayley. We have seen your photos of them, and they seem very content. The exhibit looks more like their natural habitat than our rainforest vivarium. We now have some sea turtles. You can adopt both species if you like as they are on the IUCN red list as "endangered" and "critically endangered". They are  4 leatherback turtles and  5 green sea turtles.

LEATHERBACKS:
Lilac (f)
Lily (f)
Lacey (f)
Leon (m)

GREEN TURTLES:
Sanjay (m)
Marco (m)
Kelis (f)
Maggie (f)
Star (f)

If you adopt any/all of these majestic reptiles, please take care of them like you did with the tortoise trio.

Thanks, the RBRC team.

No, seriously, they look REALLY happy in the exhibit! :specool:

After a few more weeks of fast construction, the Komodo Dragon exhibit is ready, but first, our Nile Crocodiles have an egg!

Nigel looks so adorable, courting Mary.
http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=2nkqngw

We caught Mary laying her egg.  Our expert photographer caught some great photographs!
http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=33ve0x2
http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=2hpn1o0

Our zookeepers quickly came in and moved the egg to a much safer spot, somewhere Nigel won't trample it.
http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=33z7dwg

The komodo dragons, Raj and Janey, took to the exhibit quickly.  This is what the exhibit looked like just before we released them.
http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=4dmjmet

And here's Raj and Janey enjoying the exhibit.  Raj is in the background.
http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=2qlxyds

Here's Raj enjoying a drink of water!
http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=483v391

That's all we could get of the dragons, because they soon disappeared deep in their burrow.  They seem to be very happy.  That's all we can report from the CRCP, we've got to prepare to receive some Nile Monitors.  We've got a few being sent to us in a week, so we have a lot of preparation to take care of.

Thanks to a donor who would like to remain anonymous, the CRCP has received a very large sum of money which should keep us going for quite some time.  Thank you very much to that special someone.

Rikki layed a couple eggs, as well, and Hayley, the other galapagos tortoise, is pregnant!

The Nile Monitors came in today!  Four beautiful Nile Monitors, three boys and a girl.

Here's the exhibit!

Ross off to the side, as Alec, Chelsea, and Russel all walk together, unsure about the place.

Ross had just gotten done eating when our world-renowned photographer snapped this photograph:

And a Once-in-a-Lifetime photograph!  Here is Alec, Chelsea, and Russel, all eating from the same artificial carcass food dispenser!
A big thank you goes out to our world-renowned photographer, Liz!  Good job!

And, Hayley laid three eggs, right next to Rikki's eggs!  Hayley's three are on the left, and Rikki's two are on the right.  We can't wait for them to be born!

That's all for today, guys.  I'll be back again soon.
