Title: Problem Files
Post by: Yellowrose on December 20, 2008, 08:12:13 AM
If you have a problem with a file you have downloaded from the downloads site please post here.

Please give us as much information as possible regarding the problem.

Is it visable in game?

Did it crash your game to the windows desktop?

When did the game crash,
-when you put the mouse over the item in the purchase menu ? when you placed the item on terrain?
- did the game run for a while before crashing?
-do you have other user downloads installed?

Giving us as much onformation as possible will help us to understand and find the problem so we can get the file looked at and updated so others don't have the same problem.

Also please do a search with the search funtion at the top of the page to see if a post has already been made about the file you are having a problem with. TYhis helps to keep the topic clear of duplicate questions.

I think you go ingame and click "get new zoo tycoon animals"
then find the file you put your animal, click on it, click open and then it should work

Sorry if that isn't the case because I switched over to zt2 last January

One should not load animals or other objects from in the Zoo Tycoon program. That can make it difficult to delete those things later.

I just downloaded and tested the Trilobite from the ZA ZT1 downloads. It showed up in my game. It downloaded as Trilobite.zip. I extracted Trilobite.ZTD from the Trilobite.zip. Since I have a "dlupdate" folder in my Zoo Tycoon folder, I put the Trilobite.ZTD file in that folder. If you do not have a "dlupdate" folder, put it in the Updates folder instead. In Zoo Tycoon, the Trilobite was in the aquatic section of the animal purchase menu. If you have problems finding it, click on every animal in the menu until you see it. I was able to put both a male and a female inside an exhibit. They can go on land or in water terrain. Sometimes they would disappear briefly while they would swim "underwater" on the water terrain.

The name doesn't ring a bell for me as a ZT1 pack so is that a ZT1 pack or a ZT2?

ZT2 Pack

Is this a ZA file you downloaded before the server crashed ?? ZA's ZT 2 files are not yet available because we don't have enough space on the current server yet.

Please post this in the downloads support or the tech support area of the site so one of the moderators can give some assistance in getting the files to show in your game. At the moment this topic is for problem files relating to the ZT 1 downloads site.

I downloaded the parasaurolophus dinosaur for ZT1 and, no matter how I change things, it's happiness drops quickly and doesn't come back up. But, if you click the scientist button, it says that the exhibit is well suited. It gives you the proper suggestions on what to do when you first purchase it. But, after I followed everything it said, I found that it's happiness didn't raise, making it so that it can't be used without having negative effects.

I'll have Fern or Jay take a look at the file. It could be something not configured in one of the ai file settings.

If it is the Parasaurolophus by RSN then follow the suitability guide Here (https://www.zooadmin.org/DD/index.php?topic=2315.0) If it is the one by the Raptor pack then the suitability guide is Here (https://www.zooadmin.org/DD/index.php?topic=4634.0) Hope this helps

It's the one by RSN. I'll use what it has there and see if it fixes it. :) Thanks.

Still, isn't there some kind of glitch? Because when the scientist says the exhibit is suitable, it should be happy, shouldn't it? And instead it keeps dropping in happiness.

No, an animal should not be happy just because the exhibit is suitable, although an exhibit does have to be suitable enough in order for an animal to be happy. But happiness involves many other things. An animal needs food, for example. It needs the right kind of foliage and right kind of rocks. The zookeeper/scientist recommendations only care about the percentage of foliage and rocks, and not what it likes. So it is important to see if the animals give a smile or a frown as something is added.

I just created an exhibit with those animals and I did not have problems. While I was adding things to the exhibit, their happiness dropped to 0. But once everything was done, their happiness did not take many game days to reach 98. The final suitability was 89 and I was not even following the suitability guide. So the exhibit could have been made even more suitable and they could have been happier sooner if I did. I added a male and a female to an exhibit surrounded by the dino bar fence. I added a scientist to give them food (after I saw that adding a zookeeper did not give them food). I then changed 1 square of terrain at a time in the exhibit, while watching their reaction. I kept adding until they gave a frown, then I would undo the last 1. Based on the zookeeper/scientist recommendation, I put in fresh water first, then brown stone, then dirt, then savannah grass, then sand. Next, I added Sigillaria Trees based on the tooltip for the animal, although I see in the suitability guide that tall grass would have been even better. I added the trees 4 at a time, filling a grid square with the 4. That gives the maximum happiness. When the animals gave a frown, I undid the last tree and then added small rocks. The suitability guide does not even list that as being a rock they like, but they gave smiles because they were getting at least some type of rock. I kept doing that until they gave a frown and I undid the last rock addition.

I downloaded the Trilobite file from this website and saved it on my desktop. I extracted the file and tried to open it in the game. But, it didn't work.(its in ZT1) more info here http://www.zooadmin.net/index.php?topic=309.0 (http://www.zooadmin.net/index.php?topic=309.0)

Were you trying to put it in a tank? This animal was created before MM I think and will only work on water terrain and not in tanks.
I had no problem getting it to work so i am not sure what the problem is that you are having. It appears in the aquatic menu.

After I downloaded it and check for in the game, I noticed that three statues do not show up in the scenery menu.  Their names showed up on other items.  Also can someone please tell me what is in the pack.  I have Zoo Tycoon:  Complete Collection.  I placed the ztd file in my diupdates folder.

Just looking at it quickly, I do see a number of problems with it that will crash the game. Some will crash the game when a guest tries looking at it. Others will crash the game if you are not using an American English version of ZT, or one of the other languages they are configured for. Because of these problems, I did not look at it ingame to see why things might not be showing up as expected. But a couple of the objects say they are statue boards rather than statues. As for what is in the ".ztd", the download includes a ".txt" file that lists the 27 things in the ".ztd": Roman Observation Area, Roman Column, Apollo Statue, Artemis Statue, Hades Bush, Athena Statue, Hades Statue, Demeter Statue, Hephaestus Statue, Poseidon Statue, Hermes Statue, Zeus Statue, Roman Ruin, Roman Ruin 2, Zeus Bush, Fire Fern, Red Pot, Clay Pot, Grey Pot, Black Pot, Pillar, Vine Pillar, Roman Lion Statue, Roman Column Lamp, Emperor Statue Board, Roman Soldier, Aphrodite Tree.

The Graeco-Roman Pack does not all show up in the game.  Three statues are not in the menu but the names appear on other items.  I have Coomplete Collection.  I put the ztd file in the dlupdates folder.
This is because you have a other user made files ingame that are over-riding them. I will leave Jay to explain more.

Actually, I cannot explain more. I understand how an improperly configured object such as a fence can override messages for user made scenery and animals. But I do not understand how user made scenery can override messages for other user made scenery. For the above list of conflicts, for example, either one or the other will appear in ZT for a given id. But there will not be parts of each appearing in ZT. Once the updated Graeco-Roman Pack is available that fixes the other problems mentioned, if there is still a problem in slg's purchase menus, we can try to figure out what is going on then.

Several days ago, I took a quick look at the Wild Wings Pack and then added the following post at the ZA ZT1 Download site for it:

Quote
The Small aviary might crash MM or CC when guests try to look at it.

The Hoatzin and Pegasus might cause ZT problems if they try to go in water or are placed in water.

Just ditch the trilobite mod entirely.  There are a lot of bad errors with it and they are very annoying.

Musical Habitat Statues dont play the music. Trust me I've tried getting them to work but they don't, and I cannot convert the music given with the files because Im on vista which doesn't support wav converting with the sound recorder.

As the readme in that download says, the included sounds will not work in ZT until they are converted. I do not use Vista, so I cannot give you specific help. However, the program I use to convert sounds is called audacity, which is free and open source:
http://audacity.sourceforge.net/
It says it works with Vista as well, but it also says that, because of changes in the way Vista works, there are some known issues using audacity with Vista. The list of issues, however, do not look like they should prevent audacity from converting sounds in Vista. It is recommended to use the most recent version, which currently is 1.3.12 (Beta). In addition to audacity, you would need to download and install FFmpeg import/export library that is mentioned on the audacity download page, since the sounds in the Musical Habitat Statues download are in MPEG-Layer 3 format. From the same download page, I also downloaded and installed LADSPA plug-ins installer and LAME MP3 encoder. When you run audacity, you will need to click Edit->Preferences->Libraries->FFmpeg Library Locate. It should say it found the library and will then ask if you want to continue a manual locate, which you can click No. To convert the sound files, I extracted them into a Sounds folder. For each one, I would run audacity, click File->Open, go to one of the sound files and click on it, click Open, change the Project Rate at the bottom left of the audacity window to 22050, click Tracks->Stereo Track to Mono, click File->Export, change "Save as type" to "Other uncompressed files", click Options, change Header to "WAV (Microsoft)", change Encoding to "Unsigned 8 bit PCM", click OK, click Save, click Clear, and click OK. Although pixigger recommended a higher resolution, I find that lower resolution sounds work just fine in ZT and take less memory. So the above sets the sounds to Mono, 22050 Hz, 8-bit PCM format. The sounds that come with ZT are Mono, 22050 Hz, PCM, although it comes with both 8-bit and 16-bit versions.

Once the sounds are converted, pixigger recommends using WinZip to add the sounds to the MusicalStatues.ztd. I don't use WinZip. I prefer using 7-Zip, which I talk about at ZKL. Plus, I didn't want to add the sounds into the original ".ztd". So instead, I just zipped the sounds folder (by right-clicking on the sounds folder that contains the sounds and selecting 7-Zip->Add to archive) into a MusicalStatueSounds.ztd. Then I put both MusicalStatues.ztd and MusicalStatueSounds.ztd into ZT. For the most part they worked. I did have ZT crash once, though. I did not notice anything unusual in the configuration, so I am assuming it was indirectly related to the size of the sounds. When I tested it, I still had my browser open to a number of pages, including email. So I suspect the email probably tried to do something at the same time that ZT was trying to process the sound. It also caused the icon associated with ".zip" files to change, until I told the Desktop to refresh. When I tried ZT again, I did not have a crash, even with the browser still open. So if you use these sounds, you might want to play it safe and not have anything else open at the same time as ZT.

Thankyou, and I use 7-zip myself. It's the best type of program there is for opening or compressing zipped files and such. (Now if I can jsut find someone to tell me how to make a scenario then I'll be all set >:3)
