Is there a non glitch way to get dls besides WinRar

Ir there a way to prevent damage to your computer without using WinRar or Zip? :))

umm...what?

WinRar and WinZip merely extract compressed files that are in .zip or .rar format. An alternative is 7-zip.

None of these programs prevent any sort of damage to your computer.

They can't damage your computer unless they are infected with a virus, trojan or worm.  You should be using an anti-virus program and using a spyware program to protect your computer.

The reason the files are in a zip format is manyfold. Here are a couple
One it compresses them to a smaller size which saves on bandwidth for the site. Sites cost money to run and some charge on bandwidth used.
Two: The smaller file size makes downloading quicker, especially for those on dial-up like myself.
Three: the zip programs allow you to test the file. They usually inform you if the file is corrupt which is handy as sometimes the files cut off early when downloading.

Imagine if one day the world will be free of viruses but that will be very hard to do.
