Description: With golden feathers with green on wing tips; lower beak tinged with red, these are one of the  most beautifully colored of the conures. This species is a great favorite with natives, who raise many young birds by hand.  Flocks of twenty or more may often be seen flying about the huts or settled on roofs. Though these birds are not endangered,  they are often sought for pet trade. In some areas though, over-population is a concern. They are 30 cm (19.6  in.). Their diet consists of seeds, nuts, fruits, vegetables. They live 30-35 years Their range is the Northeast part of  South America (Brazil, Guyana, and Eastern Venezuela). They are found in Savannahs, forests, and palm  groves. They occur principally in natural savannahs, but have been found in seasonally inundated scrub forest along the banks of the Amazon River.
FUN FACTS
1. Due to the small quantity of conures in the wild,  little is known about this bird.
2. Though they are not known as a truly social bird, pairs and small groups may be seen feeding in the treetops together.
3. Conures have a tendency to spend long periods of time in their nest, even when not breeding.
4. They are playful birds and are said to be clown-like.
5. Because of their sharp screeching calls, they are often known as "little macaws".
