Free roaming beavers work out. When they interact with guests, the guests will bend donw and kind of pet it while the beaver curiously gets up on it's hind legs and stares at him/her. But then the guest will think "Shouldn't American Beaver soandso be in an exhibit?" or something like that, and then you'll get a message saying, American Beaver has escaped! and then the zookeepers will go nuts and hunt it down unless you assign them to other exhibits besides beavers. So therefore, you'll have to take care of the beavers yourself.

Even though the most recent BF and MS interview said that they had no plans on making a patch for guests and free-roaming animals. But I did see a picture free-roaming peafowl in one picture they had.

I think good free-roaming animals would be: Common Peafowl, American Beaver, Greater Flamingo, Red Panda, Fennec Fox, Crested Gibbon, Koala, Emperor Penguin, Galapagos Tortoise. Just ignore the every so often animal attacks guests events and eveything should be fine!

Sorry for the long post. :blush
No no no Gibbons, to vicious and strong, like a free range chimp

I second that.  Or I might try it myself!

I have this Red Panda exhibit that guests keep getting into, and I keep seeing them say "Waving to Red Panda."  They never wave at the pandas when they're outside the exhibit, so I'm guessing that's what they do to free-roaming red pandas?  My Red Pandas always attack like they are Killer Red Pandas, though, and then the guests get mad but can't escape the exhibit!   :lol

I have free roaming peacocks in my zoo but i dont think the guests see them.  They are more for a feel of realism.

Can you see if they actually wave to the panda, then photo it?

In a real zoo, I dont think they would put free roaming pandas, or any endangered animal for that matter, because they are endangered. Like, what if the panda got hurt? How would you explain that to WWF? :lol I've tried free roaming peacocks. Its really cool. I didnt know they could fly into a kapok tree but not over a low fence.  :D

I just wish the crazy guests would notice them!!  I work hard on my zoos (that are still less than mediocre compared to other ZA members :sad), but I do want my effort to be recognized and appreciated :P ........ a donation or 2 would be nice (HINT HINT M$ & BF :whistle  ;) ).  I still love the game of course, it's just a wishful thought!  :D

I've had great sucess with free ranged zebras-thompsan's gazelles-giraffes.

I set up a savana area with certain parts fenced off with paths and arches for guests and the animals roam through a fenced around area with arched entrances

Could you post a screenshot of that Leveler? :?  Do arches act as fences, as far containment messages (ie. Zebra 1 is not contained Guests cannot view.................)?  Thanks! :)

Sorry, my ZT2 is not working right now

Thje messages don't go away but the guest seem to be fine. The arches usually keep the animals from escaping, but there are occasional times

:D Hi all!

Having free roaming peafowls is great fun. As many of you have already mentioned, the only downside is that the visitors don't really react to them. I really like the look though. A big thanks to all of you who gave me the idea (from reading this thread, deciding to de-lurk at the same time).

Do you have them on a web page? If so, just copy and paste the link in your post. :)

Personally, I love free-roaming animals, but they're best in freeform games because they can be a bit impractical if you're looking to gain money from them.  They do add a lot of realism to your zoo and I usually have them just for 'pretty'  :)
What I do is build walk-through exibits for herbivores like giraffes, gazelles, etc. and then build actual exibits that are fenced all the way around for the carnivores.  That works for me.  I'll post pics of free roaming animals/walkthrough exibits ASAP!
